y ya me decís cuando lo tengáis hecho para subirlo en subcultura. También os vale como actualización de porque sí. (a mí me sirvió de especial nº 30)

Gene Roddenbery, o criador da saga Jornada Nas Estrelas, vai leiloar o seu Mac Plus. O Macintosh Plus (terceiro da família lançado, em 1986, depois do Macintosh original e do Macintosh 512k) foi presenteado ao escritor pelo próprio Steve Jobs e possui o número de série F4200NUM0001, ou seja, foi o primeiro a ser produzido.

O computador será leiloado no mês que vem pela Profiles In History, uma agência de leilões norte-americana especializada em produtos antigos. O Mac vem com mouse e teclados originais e ainda um drive de disquete externo, e os responsáveis pelo leilão acreditam que o valor possa chegar a US$1200. Pouco, se comparado ao preço cobrado por um novo, na época, de US$2500.

Se eu tivesse (muito) dinheiro sobrando, certamente seria meu alvo. Deve ser incrível usar um computador de 23 anos atrás, ainda mais quando ele pertenceu ao criador de Star Trek, e ainda mais de novo porque ele, bem, ele é um Macintosh!

A couple of years ago we ran a feature-length Q&A with Penn State grad Steven Levy ’74g, chief technology writer for Newsweek, on his then-new book about the iPod. That was in our November-December 2006 issue. Since then, Levy has moved over to Wired magazine and continues to write about all things Apple, among other topics. In the current issue of Wired, he writes about the progression of the Apple Macintosh, which has now been around for 25 years.

Levy’s article also talks about “Apple’s long-running PC-versus-Mac ad campaign, with the nebbishy John Hodgman portraying the PC,” and how that campaign “has deeply unhinged Microsoft despite the company’s dominant market share.”

Seeing the photo-illustrated timeline that accompanies the article made me remember, with a laugh, my my first Mac, which looked pretty much like the one shown here. I got it—a Mac Plus—in 1987 in my previous job as the communications person for the College of Health and Human Development. The Mac Plus had a whopping 1MB of hard-drive space—the equivalent of, say, a single photo on my current Mac laptop.

Check out the Flickr photo gallery of a Mac Plus turned into a G4 Cube mod by charles_mangin. I’ve seen a lot of this kind of stuff with Mac Minis, but a Cube seems even more flexible for creative mash-ups.

After messing around with my PowerMac G4, I’m starting to get into these Mac mods. It’s one of those fun weekend project kind of deals, you know?

Speaking of which, there are some cool designs over at the MacMod site. Not all of them are useful, per se, but then neither is a fish tank stuffed in to a Apple Studio Display.

Por si alguien no sabia: El Plus usa una pila que por lo menos aca en Chile o por lo menos en mi ciudad ya no existe, a si que decidi probar (viendo que la pila original es casi igual al a una pila AA normal) una Pila comun y corriente de 1.5v, y ahora el reloj y la fecha funcionan perfectamente, lleva un tiempo asi y todo perfecto. a si que si tienen un 128, 512 o plus sin pila prueben esto. yo por lo menos estoy feliz por que funciona!
