Exista multe si diferite argumente in alegerea unei masini. Iar faptul ca Subaru este diferita ar putea fi cel mai bun argument. Pentru ca, cu cat stii mai multe despre Subaru, cu atat esti mai tentat sa te intrebi “De ce nu sunt construite asa toate masinile?”. La volanul unui Subaru traiesti o senzatie absolut unica, de incredere in masina si, pe masura ce ii descoperi calitatile iti ofera un sentiment unic de incantare. Am trait aceste senzatii cand, intalnindu-mi un prieten, am acceptat sa-mi arate masina pe care tocmai si-o cumparase: un Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Nu mai completez decat faptul ca eram in Sinaia deci am trait experienta Subaru pe asfalt, serpentine, macadam si drum forestier.

Astazi am mers intr-un showroom al marcii asa incat iata opinii despre Subaru in general, nu doar despre Impreza. De altfel preferata mea a ramas modelul Outback, o combinatie intre masina sportiva, de familie si business. Ce iese in evidenta la masinile Subaru nu este sistemul de navigatie High Resolution cu DVD, nici sunetul premium cu “n” difuzoare si SRS Circle Surround, sau mufa pentru iPod. Acestea se gasesc si la alte marci. Sub capota se gasesc doua minuni ale tehnicii: sistemul Symmetrical AWD si Subaru Boxer.

Symmetrical AWD (All Wheel Drive) consta in dispunerea simetrica si in linie dreapta a motorului si transmisiei. Puterea lui se transmite catre rori mai simplu si mai direct, creand un echilibru aproape natural si o senzatie de control absolut asupra manevrabilitatii. Iar motorul Subaru Boxer are pistoanele dispuse orizontal si la 180 de grade unul fata de altul, pe ambele laturi ale masinii, realizand un profil mai coborat si mai plat in comparatie cu alte tipuri de motoare. Rezulta un centru de greutate mai coborat, un echilibru mai bun si o stabilitate mai mare la abordarea virajelor. In plus miscarile pistoanelor opuse se contrabalanseaza, contribuind la reducerea vibratiilor.

Dincolo de acestea, celelalte dotari par niste gadgeturi: frana de mana electronica, oglinzi de parasolar iluminate, compartiment de depozitare in plafon sau ventilatie separata pentru zona din spate a masinii. Va recomand asadar ca in limita timpului disponibil sa mergeti sa vedeti masinile sau de ce nu, sa faceti un drive-test, chiar si pentru placerea de a conduce un Subaru.

Les entités qui y survivent décident du sort de l’humanité, en toute innocence disent-elles – mais ce n’est qu’une façade. Alors il est nécessaire de prendre les armes et de combattre. Peu d’entre nous font ce choix. Encore moins sont ceux qui arrachent une petite victoire, quelques minutes grisantes, qui font oublier les sacrifices consentis.

Pour autant, faut-il en vouloir – à ces entités ?

La haine pousse au dépassement de soi. C’est ce que j’ai entendu cette nuit, dans mon cauchemar.

A eponynmous word from Paul Auster’s New York Trilogy.  A macadam is a road, or the stones in a road, made up broken stones of even size, compacted together, and “bound with tar or bitumen” according the the O.A.D.  It was invented by Scotsman John Laudon MacAdam and the standard form for paving roads pre-asphalt.  A google image search shows various examples of the paving, but it is difficult to recognize without being able to inspect closely.  Most paved and tar roads that do not use asphalt are macadam roads.

Par la suite, l’étanchéité de surface a été améliorée par imprégnation de goudron (produit minier) puis de bitume (produit pétrolier) . Plus tard encore, les chaussées macadamisées ont été revêtues de béton,  nommées tarmacadam ou tarmac ! De la chaussée au trottoir il n’y a qu’un pas ; le franchirons nous, en pensant que Mac Adam serait un dérivé de mac à dames ! That’s the question (comme dit l’inquisiteur).

sandwich :  en tant que plat, tient son nom de John Montagu, comte de Sandwich. Le sandwich contenait à l’origine du bœuf salé, dont John Montagu (1765) était friand, et des tranches de concombre. Cependant, les circonstances de l’invention du sandwich ne sont pas claires. Il semble,  selon nos recherches, qu’un gargotier surnommé  Crapulet  aurait très mal accueilli cette invention, ce qui serait à l’origine de la haine entre les deux familles dont Shakespeare s’inspira pour Roméo et Juliette en maquillant à peine les deux noms ! Nous répondrions ainsi à l’énigme sur l’origine de cette haine viscérale.

kémia : de sandwich à kémia il n’y a qu’un continent. L’origine est incertaine mais la relation avec la chimie est forte “al kémia” se traduit la chimie et aussi à conduit à l’alchimie ! Chimie choque et alchimie ravit (va savoir). Pourtant que du naturel (je ne reviendrai pas sur tout est chimie) : des fèvettes au cumin, des escargots (babouches !), des sardines à l’escabeche et … . Traversons le détroit de Gibraltar (djebel Tarik) la kémia devient tapas (t’as pas 100 balles ?). La semaine dernière les macadam cowboys sont venus nous refaire la rue; ils ont fini mercredi.

Et bien dès lundi une autre entreprise est venue faire un trou

Paved roads in Scranton have a variety of insults that other areas of the nation don’t suffer. For one thing, the freezing and thawing that the North-East experiences leads to “wasting events”, as they say in geological circles. Water expands as it freezes and acts as a wedge, turning tiny cracks and imperfections in paved roads into major cracks and potholes.

Then, there’s mine subsidence. The “Anthracite Capital of the World” is riddled with abandoned mines. The land here would look like Swiss cheese if it were cut open and displayed in a big hunk. Add to those giant worm-holes the eroding effects of underground streams and rivers, and you have sudden, catastrophic drops in ground level. They’re called mine subsidence, but they’re really more like trap doors that suddenly spring open. One day, the ground is solid and seemingly substantial. The next, it’s 30 feet lower than it was.

Add to that the wear and tear of several centuries of traffic, which has become much more weighty in the last century. Original roadbeds that were meant for cart and wagon traffic now have to bear up to 40 tons of tractor-trailer loads and heavy construction equipment that was unimaginable back in the Good Old Days.

Now compound the problem with speed. Today’s roads are traveled at speeds which would have been the stuff of fantasy in the days before asphalt, motor cars and trucks. Roaring ahead at even a mere 25 miles per hour (40 kph) will do damage to a road that our forebearers did not have to deal with. Old-fashioned Macadam roads simply cannot stand up to the gusts of wind that faster traffic generates.

Tarmac was one road paving solution to the problem (covering macadam with tar). Asphalt paving became the Gold Standard for permanent roadways in the mid 20th Century. Concrete paving for high-speed, high traffic roadways was popularized during the growth of the Interstate Highway System.

Désolée Carrie Bradshaw, tes Jimmy Choo sont juste un peu dépassés, l’été est à la palme !

Wearing: First hit – orange, chemicals, rubber and nail polish remover. Reminds me of Goo Gone. Morphs into the scent of new Mailbu Barbies – rubbery, plastic and industrial. Eventually, the rubber and plastic begin to disappear (along with the rest of the scent. In about 10 minutes it becomes a gentle floral woody scent (sandalwood and jasmine soap come to mind). 15 minutes in, the florals strengthen and woods and amber appear. One arm still smells slightly of orange oil. Maybe some incense. Still a bit soapy. 20 minutes in it develops an anise note. At the end of the drydown, about 3 hours later, again smells like rubber and new Barbies.

Comments: I’m wondering if my nose is working today. I finally escaped this fragrance feeling like I just spent a day painting theatrical sets and staining wood. I’m glad it evolved (briefly) into a nice fragrance (citrus, flowers, wood and amber). Too bad that horrible rubber and new barbies smell returned.
