If you may have notice, Kara has been up for Asia tourist destinations. Kara informs its readers that Macau is a great place to stay. If ever you are in Hongkong, and you want some Vegas action, Macau is your place you would want to go to. I had a few reading about Macau and its attractions you MUST Visit.

Macau has a reputation as the Vegas of the East and, indeed, millions of visitors come every year to the city’s glitzy casinos. But the former Portuguese enclave has more attractions to offer than just Baccarat tables and slot machines… From impressive baroque-style cathedrals and old Chinese temples, to adrenaline-boosting bungee jumps and beautiful nature walks…

This article will take you through 10 key attractions you really have to try and see, when visiting Macau

1)	A-Ma Temple is where Macau presumably started from. Built against a rocky hill in front of the strait that separates Macau from mainland China, this 1488 temple was constructed to commemorate a miraculous event where the legendary goddess A-Ma saved a group of seamen from a storm and brought them safely to shore. Years later, when Portuguese explorers asked locals for the name of the place, they were answered “A-Ma Gau” (Literally, the Bay of A-Ma), and that’s who the name Macau eventually came about…

2)	Senado Square (Largo do Senado) is a large piazza, right in the heart of Macau. Paved with Portuguese style cobblestone, the square is surrounded by impressive historic buildings, like Santo Domingo Church, The Cathedral, The Holy House of Mercy, and Leal Senado Building, as well as some fantastic restaurants, cafes and a small market, where factory outlets sell brand-name surpluses at a good price.

3)	Ruins of St. Paul’s, just a short stroll from Senado Square, is the only remain of Asia’s once largest Catholic Church. Built in the 1580s by the Jesuits, this imposing facade boasts some fabulous statues and intricate reliefs, mainly of Jesuit images with oriental themes. At the back of the facade, there is a small museum where you can see objects of high historical and artistic value, related to the history of the catholic missions in Macau and the region.

4)	Guia Hill towers right above Macau Ferry Terminal, and is one of Macau’s highest and greenest hills. Take the short cable car ride to the top of the hill, where you can enjoy some commanding views of Macau and its environs, stroll in the beautiful park and visit interesting historical sites, such as the remains of Guia Fort, which was built in the early 1600s, following a failed attempt by the Dutch to raid on Macau, or the lighthouse that was built at 1864 and became the first western style lighthouse along the coast of China.

5)	Fisherman’s Wharf is a large Fun and Entertainment complex, featuring a children entertainment and activity area, as well as some restaurants, cafes and casinos. The main attraction here, however, is a range of European and coastal town architectures that replicate streets and suburbs from port-cities around the globe…

6)	Macau Tower, one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions, rises to a height of 338 meters, and is the world’s 10th highest free-standing tower. Zoom to the upper observation decks with one of the glass-fronted lifts and enjoy some breathtaking views. There are also two restaurants and bars here, where you can enjoy a particularly romantic sundowner. Adventure lovers can elevate their adrenaline with Bungee Jump, Mast climbing, Skywalk or Skyjump… Down at the bottom, there is a modern shopping mall, with a few very good restaurants and some slot machines…

7)	The Macau Grand Prix Museum is a place you just have to visit, especially if you are here with the kids… The museum gives you the opportunity to see all those legendary cars and bikes that made history on one of the world’s most demanding street tracks – Macau’s Guia Circuit, and to learn more about the drivers who actually drove those vehicles.

Taipa Village, on the island of Taipa, is one of only two traditional “villages” that still exist in Macau. Strolling through the pedestrian only alleys feels like traveling back in time, and there are some outstandingly good Portuguese-Macanese restaurants you should try.

9)	The Venetian hosts the world’s largest casino complex, with almost 600,000 square feet of gambling space, 3,400 slot machines and 800 gambling tables… Other than virtually endless gambling and gaming options, there is a fantastic “Venice themed” shopping arena there, called The Grand Canal shoppes, where you can buy international brand names, enjoy some great restaurants, bars and cafes, or just ride a gondola…

10)	Alto de Coloane and Coloane Village are both located on Macau’s greenest and most spacious island – Coloane. The “village” boasts a labyrinth of small pedestrian only alleyways, where very little has changed over the years, and there are some beautiful small Chinese temples and churches, as well as some very good restaurants. Not far from the ‘village” on Macau’s highest hill, you can visit A-Ma cultural village: An imposing complex of lavishly decked temples and study rooms, devoted to Macau’s most popular goddess, A-Ma. On top of the hill, just above A-Ma cultural village, there’s a colossal statue of the beloved deity, that rises to a height of 19.99 mtrs (commemorating the year 1999, at which China regained sovereignty over Macau).

Kara would love to visit them all and rest assured she will visit those tourists spots whenever she reached Asia. Kara is thinking to travel Asia anytime soon and a strategic concrete plan is a must.

The tour began at 07:00 in the morning. Three friends and I met at the pick-up point which was about 8 blocks from my house. We got on bus and headed out.

The first stop was a Chinese temple. It wasn’t all that impressive, and we only spent a few minutes there. It was on the side of a hill and had 150 steps to climb to get to it.

Then we went to a place that manufactured traditional Chinese medicines. I was a little disappointed in this stop. I thought it was going to be a farm where plants and animals were grown. Instead it was where they were processed and packaged. After a short tour that included tasting samples, the employees tried to sell us various teas, dried mushrooms, and god knows what else. Only a few people bought anything. They had a little museum that was interesting.

Then it was on to Sun Yat-Sen’s house and museum. Sun Yat-Sen is considered the father of modern China. I believe he lived 1866-1925. He appears on many pre-Communist coins.

Like most “men of the people,” Sun Yat-Sen lived much better than 99.9999% of his countrymen. His house was interesting and fairly well maintained. Pictures weren’t allowed, but I was able to a get a few when there were no guards looking.

In addition to the house, there a a small museum devoted to Sun Yat-Sen. There wasn’t much in it, mostly copies of old pictures. But the captions were in Chinese and English, so it was interesting reading.

After the Sun Yat-Sen house we went to a place for lunch. It was pretty good and was included in the price of the ticket. We were seated at large round tables of 10 and the dishes were placed on a Lazy Susan in the center. It was mostly seafood but also included a plate of duck, some stir fries, several vegetables and rice. My favorite was a small streamed crab that was served whole. It was difficult to eat, but very tasty.

After lunch we were driven to a famous seafood market in a town whose name I already forgot. It was on the harbor and Macau was visible on the other side. The Chinese need special permits to go to Macau. It’s like Hong Kong, almost a separate country. Macau has become a famous destination for gambling. Here are some views of Macau. I could make out the Wynn Hotel, otherwise I couldn’t see anything very unusual.

The fish market was across the street from the wharf. It was very big and the vendors only sold dried, salted and smoked fish. There were absolutely no fresh or live fish anywhere. Nothing was refrigerated. I bought some smoked scallops and some spicy dried shrimp.

I was surprised how many people bought lots of fish at the market. They re-boarded carrying large bags that they stuffed into the over head bins. And the fish were not inexpensive. I priced a fish in the market that was a little over a foot long. It was 128 Yuan (about $18.00 USD).

After the fish market we went to an aloe farm. It was mostly a stop where they tried to sell us aloe products, similar in concept to the traditional medicine factory. The best part of this stop was the sign they had showing the benefits of aloe. Apparently aloe is a laxative that makes you both thinner and taller.

A lot of people bought aloe products at this stop. Toothpaste was the most popular item by far, but various skin creams and other beauty products were selling too. I bought a little bag of aloe flavored dried fruit. There was a lemon on the outside of the bag, but I didn’t recognize the taste of the fruit. It was about the size a a grape and had a small seed. It was very good.

After the aloe farm we headed home. We made a pit stop in a park that had mist being sprayed over the little ponds in it. The park was beautiful and perfectly maintained. The mist added an interesting effect.

The park was our last stop. We returned to Shenzhen about 20:30. Originally I had planned to go to a Halloween party at La Casa, but I was tired and went straight home.

The tour only cost 99 Yuan (about $15.00 USD) and that included lunch. I am sure the aloe farm, the fish market, and the traditional medicine factory paid the tour operator something to bring us there. That was OK with me. They were interesting and it kept the price down.

Day 5 – 24.11.2009 Tujuan berikutnya adalah Tung Chung dan Ngong Ping. Di Tung Chung ada mall

Day 5 – 24.11.2009

Tujuannya sih tetep sama, tapi kita pergi duluan.
Sempet nyasar karna gua lupa arahnya. Maklum terakhir ke HK tahun 2001 jadi udah banyak lupanya nih hehehe….
Muter-muter lagiii sampe kaki menyerah, pulanglah kita. Tapi biar kata menyerah tetep aja jam 10an baru balik ke hotel hahaha….

Day 6 – 25.11.2009

Kaki menyerah, pulanglah kita hehehe….

Day 7 – 26.11.2009

Tapiii… rencana tinggallah rencana. Kita malah asik shopping di Panda Place hehehe… Ternyata Panda Place ini tokonya menarik2 loh.
Ada Jusco $10 Shop. Isinya barang-barang Jepang kayak di Daiso tapi harganya cuman HKD 10. Kalaaappppp…. Sayang koper gak muat lagi hiks….

Trus naek taxi ke China Ferry Terminal. Naek First Ferry ke Macau. Harganya lebih murah karna kita nyebrang siang hari. Harganya HKD 136, Felice harganya sama juga.
Sampe Macau udah jam 4 sore, trus kita naek free shuttle bus Venetian. Yup, kita memang sengaja mau nginep di Venetian di hari terakhir.

Sampe Venetian, baru sampe lobby aja udah terkagum2 ama interiornya. Toiletnya baguuusss….
Setelah check-in kita langsung ke kamar dan kamarnya bagooozzzzzz…
Kamar kita Rialto Suite dengan luas 170m2. Glek! Apartemen gua aja luasnya cuman 80m2 :p

Waaah, seruuuu….
Kelamaan muter-muter di food festival, pas mau naek ke tower-nya ternyata udah tutup, hiks…
Yasud, gpp deh, yang penting udah foto bareng Macau Tower hehehe…

Rencananya dari Macau Tower mau ke City of Dreams, tpai karna kaki udah gak tahan akhirnya kit apulang ke hotl deh. Menikmati kamar yang indah hahaha….

Day 8 – 27.11.2009

Rencana mau liat2 kolam renangnya pun gak terlaksana. Duuuh.. kalo jalan-jalan mah emang gak inget waktu yah. Jadi waktu serasa berlari dan kita terseok-seok mengejarnya…

Jam 13 naek free shuttle bus ke airport dan jam 15 kita take off.

Capek kebanyakan jalan tapi nikmat.

A couple of weeks ago I found this post on Butterfly Effect’s Blog. You see, I like taking picture of my feet/shoes when I’m in a certain place. It’s like a strange way of saying ” I was here.” I promised Butterfly Effect I’d post my own photo, I was only able to unearth this:

We were In Macau

I blame it on my love for sneakers how all of this started. On the photo from left to right: sister1, me, sister 2. The weekend has been a roller coaster of things I had to do. I have my plate full right now with school and all but I was able to get a take two on my banana cake and try out a Rustic Apple Tart. I’ll talk about that more on Friday. I’ve been meaning to write a decent reviews on some of the books I’ve recently finished. Hopefully I have one by Wednesday.

So before I head out to my own little world here’s a quote worth smiling about:

Ten 4 day and 3 night trips for two to Macau and a grand prize $1,000 travel voucher up for grabs!

Jetstar, the leading low fares airline, has launched the third edition of its highly popular JetSaver Light Challenge. This time Jetstar is ready to take participants off to Macau. From today until 24 December 2009, contestants have a chance to win 4 day – 3 night trips to Macau and a grand prize of $1,000 in Jetstar travel vouchers.

Open to anyone, contestants must participate as teams of two and submit an exciting and creative itinerary of 5 things they would like to do in Macau for a day, based on a budget of $30 per person. This budget is equivalent to the return saving of one person “travelling light” on a JetSaver Light fare. Ten teams will be selected to travel for free to Macau from 1 to 4 February 2010 for a 4 day 3 night trip. They will need to capture with photos their Macau moments and post it on their blog. After the trip, one team with the most interesting blog entry will be awarded a $1,000 Jetstar travel voucher.

Mr Leslie Ng, Head of Commercial Jetstar Asia said, “The Macau JetSaver Light Challenge is being staged to celebrate our commitment to leading the low fares market and providing more good times, more often to Jetstar travellers. Since introducing the JetSaver Light fare in April this year, our passengers have been responding really positively to the opportunity to travel light and to pay less.”

Details of the challenge as well as the terms and conditions are available at www.jetstar.com/specials/jetsaverlight. Applications will close at 11.59 pm on 24th December 2009. Challenge participants will be chosen by 8th January 2010 for travel from 1 February 2010 to 4 February 2010. Teams will then need to blog their Macau moments before 8 February 2010 and the winning team will be notified by 9 February 2010.

Jetstar flies daily between Singapore and Macau from $108 all inclusive one-way fare (JetSaver Light) available at Jetstar.com.

The Macau JetSaver Light Challenge is organised by Jetstar with support from the Macau Government Tourist Office. This follows the success of the Penang and Kota Kinabalu editions of the challenge that were organised earlier in 2009.

# JetSaver Light fares include up to 10kg of carry-on luggage only. JetSaver fares, with an allowance of 20kg of check-in luggage, can be purchased for $15 more per passenger per flight at Jetstar.com.

Disana kita makan siang dimana yah, agak lupa tapi kayanya model2 Mc.

Persiapan

Persiapan kudu dong yah.

Yah berarti kita kudu cari hotel dong yah.

Jadwal keberangkatan kita dari tanggal 20 – 27 Nov 2009.
Perginya naek flight jam 19.35 dan sampe Macau jam 00.45. Nyubuh yah, boow.. otomatis kudu langsung cek in di hotel Macau.

Pas cek2 harga kamar via online agent, kok yah mahal-mahal banget. Naiknya bisa 3 kali lipat. Ada apakah gerangan??
Ternyata oh ternyata, tanggal segitu lagi ada acara Macao Grand Prix. Oooohhh… pantesan ajeh…

Day 1 – 20.11.2009

Emang sih kalo cancel duit tiket kita pasti dibalikkin, tapi kan ribet aja ngurusinnya.
Pas sampe airport dan check in antriannya panjang.

Day 2 – 21.11.2009

Sampe Macau sekitar jam 01.30. Selama terbang, Felice bobo nyenyak.
Begitu keluar pintu pesawat, busettttt, anginnya dingin bangeds. Brrr!!!

Sampe hotel jam 02.30. Kamar di Grand Waldo okeh juga. Lumayan gede. Kita dapet ranjang twin tapi bisa disatuin. Kamar mandinya juga bersih, ada bathtub-nya. Ok lah pokoknya, apalagi kalo inget harganya yg murah itu dibandingkan hotel2 lainnya hahaha… Begitu sampe kamar langsung deh pada ngoroks….

Jam 9 pagi udah bangun lagi, jam 10 turun breakfast.

Nikmaattt… DIngin-dingin makan yang anget-anget…
Abis itu bersih-bersih dan ngoroks deh hehehe….

=> bersambung ke part 2

Notes:

- deluxe room Grand Waldo Hotel sekitar 950ribuan per malam saat peak season.

- cityview room Empire Hotel Causeway Bay sekitar 700ribuan per malam.
