Although my notebook of choice (and primary computer) is my MacBook Air, I sometimes prefer something smaller and cheaper to hit the road with… Enter the netbook!

I’ve owned (and hacked) several over the years, from the original Asus 701 (Eee) to the Toshiba NB205 (Mini), which I just retired. This time around I wanted something with better performance and a larger screen. Based on my past experience using (and modding) the Acer Aspire One, I decided to purchase a sapphire blue Acer Aspire 1410-2801 with an Intel Celeron SU2300 dual-core CULV processor and an 11.6″ screen.

It’s just semantics, but while being thin, light, and affordable, the Aspire 1410 is not marketed as a netbook. That’s fine by me, because I think current netbooks are too big and bloated – 11.6″ screens and full keyboards are great but how about smaller packaging? To me, older netbooks with 9″ screens are still the ideal in terms of system size and weight.

The Aspire 1410 is missing Bluetooth, but I’ve picked up the appropriate module, which I’ll install soon. In the meantime, check out my unboxing pictures

Back in the early days of Blonde bloggery, I promised that I’d never be the sort of Juicy-wearing, Krispy-eating postmistress who diarised daily about her cats.

Of course, I didn’t say anything about cardboard cats.

It’s a little worrying that, of the two parcels that have plopped into my postbox this week, I’m most excited about my Flat Pet from Garudio Studiage (as you can see, the other is a brand spanking new MacBook Air). Yes, the might of Jobs is nothing compared to the lure of a near-neon ginger flat-pack feline for a Burmilla-owning country girl forced to live flea-free in a Shoreditch flat. Merlin (oh yes) has become my muse, my confidante, my travelling companion. As I type this from a conference in Vegas, he’s off cracking the nut in the Paris casino (look carefully).

As a child, I rejected computer games and plastic mannequins for cardboard box spaceships with bottle-top buttons. For years, my favourite doll was the tassel from the end of a curtain pull. There is something here about the simplicity of a cipher correlating to the freedom of the imagination, something that might apply to my new Mac too.

But that something is definitely less relevant than the uncomplicated joy of a portable, fake, flat cat.

A report from Digitimes says Intel is set to launch their Arrandale mobile CPUs in January 2010.

They plan to launch these four 32nm dual-core Arrandale CPUs (Calpella platform):

• Core i5-520M
• Core i5-430M
• Core i3-350M
• Core i3-330M

The Arrandale CPU is based on the Nehalem architecture that was first introduced into Macs earlier this year. These processors are rumored to be available in mainstream as well as low-voltage variants which can be used in the MacBook Air. They are expected to provide significant performance boosts.

Just came across a very interesting article on the net that talks about Apple driving developers away from its App Store. Huh!!! Is that possible? After all Apple and it’s iPhone/iPod are supposed to be the best thing that has ever happened to the world. The truth is actually quite different my friends.

At one point the iPhone was probably the best platform for mobile applications. But the situation is quite different now. RIM’s Blackberry, Google’s Android and Palm’s WebOS have all changed the dynamics of the game. Consumers and mobile app developers have a lot of choice now. All the operating systems are quite capable and worthy and some of them are actually easier to develop for. For example if you want to develop for the Android or the Palm Web OS all you need is the SDK and a computer running Windows, Linux or Mac OS. But if you want to develop for the iPhone you need to have an Apple Mac computer. Ridiculous!!! What were they thinking? By constraining the development environment you are already alienating some of the developers.

The thing that takes the cake is Apple’s policies for applications that can be hosted on the App Store. In fact there is a clear lack of a consistent policy and every application, and by extension the developer, is at the mercy of the whims of an Apple employee. So if the Apple person reviewing your application on a particular day had a harrowing time tackling brutal traffic, or just learnt that his/her partner is cheating on him, then you could be doomed. Your application would be rejected for some seemingly vague reasons. And I am not pulling something out of thin air here, this has happened….on multiple occasions….and continues to happen even today. So here’s the million dollar question:

Who the f&*^ is Apple to decide what I can run on my iPhone/iPod ?

In some of my previous posts I had talked about how Apple might be losing developers if it does not get it’s act together. Here are a few of them:

In fact Apple has started losing developers. Check out this article. Most of the fanboys would be quick to dismiss this as a one off case of disgruntled developers. Probably true now but how long would this take to snowball into something bigger? More importantly can Apple afford to take a hit to their reputation? Google Android and the Web OS have opened up development to all and their store policies are more lenient towards developers. So what does Apple have to gain? The iPhone on Verizon seems to be a distant dream specially with the Motorola Droid faring quite well. Looks like it might pretty much be all downhill from here for the iPhone.

Hey, just thought I’d start a blog for no particular reason. I just have a lot to talk about I guess. I suppose subjects will range from technology to politics to just stuff I find funny (may be NSFW). I guess it’s time for me to write my first blog entry!

Windows Vista.

This is sort of old but I’m a little curious as to why people still hate Microsoft’s Windows Vista. I first used Vista about a year ago at this time and it was fine. This was after SP 1 was released and I found it did everything XP did exceptionally well. I understand that when it was first released, Windows Vista had a lot of terrible flaws. However, with SP 1 and 2, most of them seem to be gone according to people who have been using Vista since it was released. But people still hate Vista. Why? It’s not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It may seem unnecessary, yes after all it does exactly the same things XP does with really no no features, but is it still considered bad? If so, why?

(Note : I understand I probably won’t be getting many or any comments on this as it’s my first entry and I literally have no audience. Guess I’m just talking to myself. Oh well.)

I have an MBA. Mine is one of the first, and it is still going strong, and making me happy with how it works for my writing. I love the keyboard and the form factor. I love the screen. I came across this ad from the introduction of the MBA about two years ago. I still find it fun to watch.

ตัวเครื่องขอบมันคมมาก เวลาเอามือวางเพื่อจะพิมพ์งานมันจะบาด ! ถ้าผมทำงานที่บ้านจะไม่ค่อยรู้สึกเพราะว่าโต๊ะที่บ้านมันเตี้ย เวลาพิมงานหรือทำงานมือจะลอยออกจาก macbook air แต่ว่าพอไปทำงานที่อื่น เช่นที่ร้านกาแฟบางร้าน โต๊ะมันจะสูง ทำให้ต้องเอามือวางบน macbook air แล้วขอบมันจะบาดขอบของฝ่ามือเราได้

(จริงๆมันก็ไม่ถึงขนาดบาด แต่ผมไม่ชอบความรู้สึกที่ว่าเครื่องมันไม่เป็นมิตรกับเรา เหมือนเค้าดีไซน์มาโดยไม่ได้ลองใช้มาก่อนว่ามันจะอันตรายรึเปล่า)

เสียบ usb และอื่นๆ ยากมาก ! เพราะว่า hub ทั้งหมด สาย usb 1 รู, หูฟัง, และ mini dvi มันซ่อนอยู่ด้านข้างที่ไม่สามารถเสียบได้เลย ต้องกดให้มันออกมา และ ไม่สามารถมองเห็นได้ หากเอาเครื่องวางกับโต๊ะไว้ เพราะฉะนั้นเวลาจะเสียบเมาส์เพื่อใช้ทำงานกับเจ้า macbook air เราต้องยกเครื่องขึ้นมาแล้วเสียบ

(อันนี้ผมไม่คิดว่ามันซีเรียสมากนะครับเพราะว่า เราสามารถยกเจ้า macbook air ขณะที่มันเปิดฝา ได้ด้วยมือเดียวสบายๆ อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติมาก) แต่ผมคิดว่ากำลังจะหา mighty mouse หรือ magic mouse ทีีไม่ต้องเสียบ usb รวมไปถึงหูฟัง bluetooth มาใช้น่าจะดีกว่า ;]) ไร้สายกันสุดๆไปเลย

คีย์บอร์ดเรืองแสงมันมีความคิดเป็นของตัวเอง ! คือเจ้า macbook air มันจะใช้กล้องที่อยู่บนจอในการเป็นตัว sensor จับความมืดสว่างเพื่อที่มันจะเปิด คีย์บอร์ดเรืองแสงมาให้เราใช้ ซึ่งไอ้ตัวนี่มันจะเพี้ยนๆหน่อย บางขณะในที่ที่เรารู้สึกว่ามันมืด อยากเปิดคีย์บอร์ด มันไม่ยอมเปิดให้ ! sensor มันคงคิดว่า พอแล้วสิ จะเปิดไปทำไม ! ฮ่า (อันนี้ไม่มีอะไรร้ายแรงมากแต่ว่ามันเซ็งนิดหน่อยที่เราควบคุมเครื่องเราไม่ได้เท่านั้นเอง)

เป็นยังไงบ้างครับ สำหรับข้อเสียของเจ้า macbook air เพื่อนๆคนไหนใช้อยู่แล้วเจอปัญหาอะไรอย่าลืมเมนท์แลกเปลี่ยนประสบการณ์การใช้กันนะครับ เพื่อโลกไร้สาย yey !

หลังจากถอย macbook air (AKA มนูญแดง) มาได้ซักระยะ ขอเขียนแบ่งปันประสบการณ์ การใช้งานสำหรับคนที่สนใจจะซื้อ และลังเล หรือหาข้อมูลอยู่

น้องมนูญแดง

ก่อนอื่นขอบอกสถานการณ์ (ฮ่า) การใช้คอมพิวเตอร์ของผมก่อนนะครับ ก่อนซื้อ macbook air ผมใช้ pc มาตลอด มีตั้งโต๊ะหนึ่งเครื่อง และ vaio สิบสี่นิ้ว ที่ซื้อมาเมื่อสี่ห้าปีที่แล้วหนึ่งเครื่อง

ผมทำงานสอนหนังสือเกี่ยวกับสถาปัตย์ + การทำกราฟฟิคบ้าง, จัดเพลท, ทำ powerpoint นำเสนอ เพราะฉะนั้นโปรแกรมที่ใช้หลักๆ ก็จะเป็นพวก office – ทำเอกสารงานวิจัย, photoshop, autocad (บ้างเล็กน้อย)

(ตัวอย่าง โปสเตอร์ที่ทำจาก macbook air ของผม – รูปต่างๆ มีมาอยู่แล้วนะครับ เอามาจัด layout เฉยๆ)

ส่วนโปรแกรมอื่นๆที่ใช้ก็คือพวก safari (บน pc) – เอาไว้เข้า amazon.com (ช่วงนี้บ้าลองทำธุรกิจออนไลน์ยังขาดทุนย่อยยับอยู่เลย – ฮ่่า) , adwords, firefox – เอาไว้เข้า microsoft adcenter (ie ไม่ได้ใช้เลยเพราะว่ามันช้ามาก)

และก็ใช้ ipod + ipod touch มีเพลงที่ rip จาก cd ของตัวเองอยู่ประมาณ 200 GB ได้ อ้อ ผมมี external hard drive สามตัว และ มี external dvd drive อยู่อีกสองตัว ;]) (ซึ่งบ้าบอและรกรุงรังมาก)

เกมส์ส่วนใหญ่ หรือกราฟฟิครุนแรงผมจะทำบน desktop ที่บ้าน (แต่ตอนนี้มันเสียอยู่มาสามสี่เดือนแล้ว) และ เวลาไปที่ทำงาน (ไปแทบทุกวัน) ผมจะพกน้องไวโอ้ไปด้วย ซึ่งมันจะเป็นประสบการณ์ที่นรกแตกมาก เพราะว่าต้องพก ไวโอ้ + แบทเตอร์รี่ + ipod + headphone + headphone amp + กระเป๋าเงิน + กุญแจรถ + กุญแจบ้าน และบางครั้ง พวก textbooks ต่างๆ เพราะฉะนั้นสิริรวมแล้วมันอาจหนักถึงสามโลกว่า กระเป๋าห้อยย้อยอยู่บนบ่าผม (ฮ่า) เมื่อน้องไวโอ้ส่งสัญญาณว่า ไม่สามารถรับการทำงานกราฟฟิคที่ผมทำอยู่ได้อีกต่อไป (แน่นอนมัน 1.7 กิ๊ก เพนเทียมเอม นินา) จึงหาน้องโน็ตบุ๊คตัวใหม่มา

รอยต่อของการตัดสินใจ

คุณพ่อผมมี netbook เครื่องหนึ่ง สิบนิ้ว ของ HP ที่ผมได้ไปลองใช้ประมาณหนึ่ง พบว่ามันช้าอืดสาด มาก คีย์บอร์ดเล็กเกินไป ตัวเลือก netbook จึงตัดทิ้งไป ก็หันมาดูคอมบางๆ เบาๆ มีอะไรให้ลองกันบ้าง มีไวโอ้ที่กำลังออกที่ชงเรื่องบางเบาเหมือนกัน ก็ดูน่าสนใจ แต่ว่า mac เป็นสิ่งที่ผมไม่เคยลองมาก่อน น่าลองอยู่ไม่น้อย ก็เลยลองมาดู mac มีตั้งหลายโมเดล ไปถามเพื่อนๆ มีแต่คนบ่นว่า macbook air ไม่เวิร์คหรอก พี่น้อง แพงก็แพง ไม่มีซีดีรอม เอามาทำไม ! macbook pro ดีกว่า สเปคดีกว่า มีซีดี มีพอร์ตมากมายมหาศาล โดยเฉพาะตอนผมใกล้จะซื้อมันออก macbook สีขาวมา ราคาสามหมื่นกว่า สเปคสูงกว่า โอ้ววววว เอาไงดี แต่ในที่สุดก็คิดว่าเอาฟระ เราจะยอมจ่ายเพื่อ ความเบา โลกไร้สาย ลองดู !

ประสบการณ์การใช้
พอใช้เจ้า macbook air มาได้ซักสองสามอาทิตย์อยากจะบอกว่า มันยอดมากเลยจอร์จ ! เพราะว่า

1. เบา มันเบาจริงๆนะครับ สมัยก่อนผมต้องมีกระเป๋าสะพายไปทำงาน ตอนนี้ผมถือแค่เจ้า macbook air ไปทำงานอย่างเดียว ในเคสี่มีกระเป๋าหน้านิดหน่อยเอาใส่กระเป๋าเงิน มือถือ และไอพอดทัช แบทตัดออกไปเลย เพราะว่าเท่าที่ลองดู ผมใช้งานคอมพิวเตอร์วันละไม่เกิน หกชั่วโมงอยู่แล้ว mouse ก็ไม่ได้ใช้ หรือถ้าเอามาด้วยก็ไม่หนักอะไรเพ่ิมอีกนิดเดียวถ้าเทียบกับเจ้าสามกิโลที่แบกมาตลอด

2. มันบาง เช่นเดียวกัน พอมันบาง ก็ถือไปไหนมาไหนได้เลย มันทำให้การเปิดคอมพิวเตอร์มาทำงาน เล่นเน็ตไม่ใช่เรื่องใหญ่อีกต่อไป ตื่นมา หยิบ macbook air ด้วยมือเดียว ดันหน้าจอขึ้น เราก็สามารถเช็คยอดการขายของทางเน็ตได้เลย ! (สมัยก่อนผมใช้ ipod touch แต่ macbook air จอใหญ่กว่ามาก สบายตากว่า) หรือวันเสาร์อาทิตย์ที่คุณไม่ต้องพกอะไรเยอะแยะ ก็เอาแค่เจ้า macbook air ออกมาพร้อมหูฟัง เดินไปมาเขียนนู้นนี่ ที่ร้านกาแฟได้เลย มันเหมือนคุณถือ magazine ซักเล่ม เดินไปมา เวลาไปห้องน้ำก็ไม่ต้องทิ้ง nb ไว้พับแล้วถือเอาไปห้องน้ำได้เลย

3. มันต่อเน็ตได้ง่ายและเร็วมาก เปิดมาหน้าจอมา เพียงไม่กี่วินาทีมันจะสามารถเข้า wifi network ได้ทันทีเลย เข้าสู่โลกไร้สายอย่างแท้จริง

ชักจะยาวไปละ ขออนุญาติจบตอนนี้ก่อนนะครับ แล้วเดี๋ยวจะมาโม้ต่อ (ฮ่า) แต่สรุปสำหรับผมแล้วคิดว่าคนที่น่าจะชอบใช้ macbook air คือคนที่ใช้กราฟฟิคไม่หนักมาก, ชอบทำงานไม่ติดที่, มี wireless network ที่บ้าน ที่ทำงานหรือในที่ ที่คุณไปบ่อยๆ, มีคอมพิวเตอร์ และ อุปกรณ์อื่นๆ อยู่แล้ว เพื่อใช้มันเชื่อมต่อกับเข้า macbook air ในการลงโปรแกรมจาก dvd (แต่ผมคิดว่าเราซื้อ online เอาได้อยู่แล้ว)

Just read the review of Adamo XPS on engadget. At first, it reminded me that how much it looks like my current Macbook Pro 13″ in terms of appearance, like black keyboard with similar centered font, with contrast of silver-colored body; they even have similar shortcuts on function keys, like volume adjustment.

But as I thought about the Macbook Air, they share even more similarities.

They are both skinny, MBair about 0.16 to 0.76 inch thick and 0.4 inch on the adamo xps, both are 13-ish” screen size, MBair has options to get 128 SSD and adamo xps comes with one, about 5 hours battery life, more importantly they are both priced similarly, MBair higher end model is $1799, as same as the adamo xps MSRP. The only big differences that on hardware, are that adamo comes with double the ram (4GB) and uses ULV 1.4Ghz core duo, which I guess it’s ok if you would be cool with less computing power to keep up with battery life with MBair.

I do not want to touch the topic of OS comparison. Since I have recently switched to a Mac from 12 years of Windows and 2 years of Linux, I found Mac to be the most refined product. Even though that I had to give up many PC games, excellent user interface and stable OS is a plus. On other hand, I have not gotten a chance to try out Windows 7 and I have heard great things about it. Therefore, my opinion on OSes could be bias.

Oh, one last thing, for Dell computers, after you ordered it online it will be shipped to your hands in around 2 weeks while you can just pick up a Macbook Air at any Apple store (There are 3 stores within 5 miles from me), and Dell comes with excellent overseas phone-based customer support if your computer breaks (3/5 Dell laptops at work experienced some sort of hardware problem at work), whereas for Macs you can just set up for an appointment and get it checked out the next day (At least in my experience).

先日、ある方からTwitterのDMで、「とても図々しいのですが,何か導入の際のお勧めウィジェット(?),アプリの様なものが教えていただけませんか?」と声をかけていただきました。なんとMacBook Proを購入されたのだとのこと。おめでとうございます。ということで、僕が選んでMacBook Airに入れたアプリケーションをご紹介。

本当に必要だと思うアプリは、最初から入っている純正のものでだいたいまかなえてしまうのが、Mac OS Xの良いところだと思います。また、最近はウェブサービスがアプリケーションに変わりうる場合が多いですから、最初に入れておきたいアプリというのは、結局あまり多くはありませんでした。

• WriteRoom

「MacBook Airは文章を書くために使いたい」と思って買ったMacですから、自然と僕のチョイスもそんな感じにまとまってしまいました。では、早速それぞれを見ていきたいと思います。

まずは、iWork。これは毎年アップデートを重ねている、アップル謹製のオフィススイートです。PagesもNumbersも某M$オフィスに比べて、圧倒的な使いやすさがあります。しかしながら、僕が最もMacのアプリケーションで好きなものがKeynoteです。

見てください、この美しいテーマの数々。このKeynoteを一言で言い表すとしたら、いわゆる「スティーブ・ジョブズのプレゼンを作るアプリケーション」です。同様のものにPower Pointがありますが、使い勝手も仕上がり具合も、まさに雲泥の差。なかなか機会は少ないのですが、僕はこのKeynoteでプレゼンをするのが大好きなんです。

次は、TweetDeck。これは、Adobe Airで動くので実はMacでもWindowsでも動作します。すでに生活の一部であるTwitterは、もちろんiPhoneから呟くことが圧倒的に多いのですが、Macの前にいるときはこのアプリを立ち上げておくのです。

このTweetDeckが優れているのは、カラム表示が出来ること。僕がFollowしている人は現時点で400名弱ですが、これだけいるとタイムラインはグイグイ進んでいきますので、誰かの呟きは一瞬で流れ去ってしまいます。そこで、グループごとのカラムを作って、気になる人の呟きは見逃さないようにしているんです。

お次は、WriteRoom。この、まさに物を書くために作られたWriteRoomのことは、MacBook Airを購入した直後に書きましたので詳しくはそちらの記事に譲ります。書くことに集中出来る良アプリで、アイデアを出したり、思考を整理するときに、よく使います。

WriteRoomつながりで、今使っているアプリケーションに集中したいときに活躍するのが、Isolatorです。これは、最も前面に出ているアプリケーションの後ろに、フィルターをかけて、見えにくくする（設定はいろいろ弄れる）ためのものです。たとえば、こんな感じに。

実は、Windowsから初めてMacの世界に来たとき、どうして「ウインドウの全画面表示」という考え方がMacにはないんだろう、と思いました。目の前の作業に集中したいときには、他のものを目に入れたくはないですよね。アップルなりに、アプリ内での全画面表示を一部導入したり、Spacesなどを提案したりしていますが、僕はこのIsolatorのような表現の仕方に美しさを感じます。

次はアプリというより、日本語入力プログラムのかわせみ。これについても、先日の記事を参考にしてください。その後、非常に快適に使えています。

ちなみに、物書堂さんのホームページでは変換候補がフォントが「ことえり」と異なってゴシックになっていますが、これは設定で変えることが出来ます。最も美しい日本語フォントだと思っているヒラギノ明朝体を、僕は使っています。

お次は、Dashboard用のWidget。このDashboardは「普段は使わないけど、ちょっとみたい情報を必要なときだけサッと表示する」機能。Mac OS X 10.4 Tigerから搭載されたこのDashboardには当時はかなりたくさんのWidgetが登場しました。ただ、iPhoneアプリが登場してからというもの、（世間的にも僕の中でも）盛り上がりはそっちに移動。最近は、使う機会も減ってしまいましたが、必須なのがこのApple Logo。

実はこれ、なんの利用価値もないAppleの林檎マークを表示するだけのWidget。でも、自分にとっては大切です。何故なら、普段はMacBook Airの背中にある林檎マークを、このWidgetによって画面で見ることが出来るのですから！たとえば、こんな感じで。

そういう意味では、「欲しいものを必要なときにサッと取り出す」というDashboardの意義に添っている使い方が出来ていると思うのです（笑）。ちなみにこのApple Logoは、作者のサイトからすでに削除されてしまっています。ただ、インターネット上でよく探すと見つかると思いますので、興味のある方はがんばって探してみてください。

最後の二つは、未来派図画工作さんの作るMacの代名詞的なスクリーンセーバー。

「二十世紀ボヤージ」は非常に有名。宇宙から見た地球を背景に、20世紀以降の出来事や名言が、スクリーンに浮かび上がっては消える、素敵なスクリーンセーバーです。これが欲しいがためにMacを手に入れる人も多かったのではないでしょうか。

夜更けに、大好きなクラシック音楽を聴きながらぼんやりと二十世紀ボヤージを眺める、そんな時間の過ごし方もお勧めです。

後発で、比較的知名度は残念ながらそれほど高くないと思われるのが「少年少女オデッセイ」。僕はこちらも大好きです。活版印刷を彷彿させるイメージが差し込まれる中、世界の偉人たちとその偉業が、過去へ未来へと、時間軸のさかのぼったり降ったりしながら紹介されていきます。「この人とこの人が、実は同じ時代の人だったんだ」なんていう発見もある、他には無い、素敵なスクリーンセーバーです。

と、以上8つのアプリケーションが、僕にとっての最低限です。この他に、SafariやMail.appはもちろん、iPhotoやiCalもよく使います。iTunesももちろんなのですが、これは妻のiMacにデータを入れてある状態なので、MacBook Airではほとんど使っていないままです…。

そして、マイクロソフトのOffice 2008やParallels（まだ肝心のWindowsは入れていません）もいちおう入れています。が、Macを楽しむ、というか人生を楽しむためには、このくらいで良いんじゃないかなぁ、と思っています。

昨日、手帳の記事を書いていたら、無性にMacBook Airの話を書きたくなってしまいました。

MoleskineやQuo VadisそしてLetts of Londonのような紙の手帳やノートも好きなのですが、やはり僕にとっての主役はこの子です。

えぇ、なんて素敵なんでしょうか。自分でとったこの写真で、僕は改めてMacBook Airが好きになってしまいました。えぇ、今日はただそれだけの記事です。

実は先日某巨大掲示板で、「自己陶酔型ブログの代名詞」みたいな書き込みをされました我が”The Air of Marr’s Blog”ですが、その時「全くその通りだ」と思いました。そう、「僕は僕の審美眼で選りすぐったものを、あたかも自分の分身のように身に付けたいですし、ブログを通じて多くの方に見ていただきたくて、それを見せることに快感をいだく」のです。それはまさに、世間一般で言う自己陶酔なんだと思います。ということで、最近は開き直ってこんな記事ばっかり書き続けているわけです（笑）。

見てください、このMacBook Airの薄さ。DellのAdamoやSonyのVaio Xが後から追いかけてきていますが、この女性のような滑らかなフォームは、彼らが持ちえない全く別の美しさだと思うのです。

というわけで、この最高に美しいMac、改めて好きになった秋の夜でした。

所謂CULV機に採用される13.3型は、解像度1,366×768pxでドットピッチ0.216ミリ。

これは所謂B5ノート（12.1型1,280×800px）比で、縦解像度4%減、ドットピッチ5.9%増。
すなわちCULV機に使われる16：9の13.3型は、16：10の12.1型と液晶縦寸で殆ど変わらず、
乱暴に言えば、横解像度増やす為にB5ノートの筐体幅を3センチ前後拡大しただけで、
パーソナルに丁度良いサイズだったかつて（16：10）の13.3型からは認識を改める必要がある。

まぁCULV機の場合、11.6型含めて、大容量バッテリー載せる事前提な筐体デザインが多いので、
13.3型CULV機の筐体奥行きは、液晶縦寸変わらない国内B5のそれより大抵大きい。

本投稿の見出しで紹介する機種の液晶は全て、光沢画面、LEDバックライトであり、
表示品質もそれぞれ似た様なものだ。
詳しくは「スペック解説まとめ」の■液晶解像度、表示品質を参照されたし。

★LaVie M（直販名称LaVie G タイプM）：

Celeron SU2300（1.20GHz x デュアルコア、1MBL2、省電力△）を採用し、重量と公称駆動時間は、
Mバッテリで1.59kg、4.1時間、Lバッテリで1.77kg、8.5時間。
バッテリーはMとLでは外観同じで重さのみ変わる。

液晶の表示品質は、NEC基準では無印スーパーシャインビューだそうだ。
やはりCULV機のは上下視野角の狭さでケチが付くのだろう。
発色そのものはグレア処理の力を借りてるとは言えマトモ。
表示品質に問題のある、

・大部分のB5ノート
・FMV-BIBLO MG
・パネル設計古い（すなわちバックライト非LEDの）13～14型

などと比べては失礼なレベル。

キーボードはピッチ19ミリ、ストローク3ミリ。打刻音が静かで、なめらかなタッチ。
タッチパッドは手書き入力、マルチタッチ、ジェスチャー機能に対応する。

メモリ増設やHDD交換は容易。

本体電源OFF時でも、USB接続で周辺機器を充電できる。

★dynabook MX（の内、13.3型モデル）：

Core 2 Duo SU9400（1.4GHz x デュアルコア、3MBL2、省電力○）を採用し、
公称10.5 時間駆動、重量1.76kg。

3D加速度センサーでヘッドを退避させるHDD保護。

キーボードはピッチ19ミリ、ストローク1.7ミリ。

有線LANが100Baseなのは要注意。

★IdeaPad U350：

重量1.6 kg。

CPUがCeleron SU2300、Core 2 Solo SU3500（1.4GHz x シングルコア、3MBL2、省電力◎）、
Core 2 Duo SU9400の3本立てなのに、他仕様変わらずで全て、カタログ駆動5時間ってのは、
ラフにも程があるｗ

厚さ17-24.9ミリの薄型筐体で、金属風パームレストは質感もそれなり。
しかしSU3500でさえ、ファン音常時大きめで、左パームレストが熱くなる個体を確認。

天板のセンサーで周囲の明るさを感知し、液晶輝度を自動調節。
ただ、輝度調整11レベルの内、少なくとも下4つは写り込みに負けてしまう。

Dolby Soundのスピーカーは、音質悪くない。

キーボードはピッチ19ミリだが、タッチは一言で言って安物。Enterキーが右端に来ない配列。

タッチパッドはマルチタッチ対応で面積も充分広く、
表面質感でパッド位置が分かる様に、ドットプリントが施されている。

メモリは全モデル標準で4GB積む。（2GB×2 / 最大物理メモリ8GB）
メモリ増設やHDD交換には、6個のネジ外してカバー開ければアクセスできる。HDD保護機能あり。

インターフェイス配列は、有線LANコネクタが手前過ぎて邪魔になるし、蓋も完全には止まらない。
この辺の形状もThinkPadでは有り得ないレベル。

ファン音うるさくて良いなら、
Celeron 723(1.2GHz x シングルコア、省電力×で、U350だとチップがGS40になる）＋Vistaで、
Office無しの在庫処分品が軒並み4万切ってる。Win7優待は1,680円。

★HP Pavilion dm3：

Core 2 Duo SP9300（2.26 GHz x デュアルコア、6MBL2、TDP25W）＋Geforce G 105M（512MB）
まで存在する機種をCULV機と言って良いかは置いといて、
最大駆動時間（BAPCo MobileMark 2007 battery benchmarkで測定）は、
Celeron SU2300で10時間、
Core 2 Duo SP9300＋Geforce G 105Mで8時間、（以上直販モデル）
AMD Athlon Neo X2 L335（1.6GHz。Radeon HD 3200をチップ内蔵）で6時間。（店頭モデル）

天板とパームレストがアルミ、筐体がマグネシウム合金で本体重量1.9kg。

キーボードはアイソレーションで、
ピッチ19×19ミリ、ストローク1.7ミリで、JISとOADGに準拠する配列。

タッチパッドはマルチタッチとジェスチャー機能に対応し、すぐ上にはバッドのOFFボタンもある。

ディスプレイの開閉状態に応じて感度を変える3Dモーションセンサーでヘッドを退避させるHDD保護。

ALTEC LANSINGスピーカー。

有線LANは100BASE注意。

★DELL Inspiron 13z：

DVDドライブを内蔵してたり、GeForce G105M（512 MB）を選択出来たりを
CULV機と言って良いかは置いといて、
CPUはCore 2 Solo SU3500とCore 2 Duo SU9400から選べ、
最大駆動時間は4セルバッテリで5時間9分、8セルバッテリで11時間23分。

厚さ17.2-26.4ミリの薄型筐体で重量1.79kg。

Win7 Home Premium  64ビット。

★ASUS UX30：

CULVでインテルチップ内蔵グラフィックな、お手軽MacBook Air。

最厚19.6ミリの薄型アルミ筐体で、（見ると天板以外はプラスチックの様な・・）
DC入力以外の接続端子が全てカバーで覆われる。
（アナログRGB出力は付属の変換アダプタ経由となる。）

天板側に至っては5～6ミリしかないが、筐体剛性は保たれており、
重量1.4kgも、液晶サイズの割に軽い。

で、それら代償として、こちらもバッテリーが内蔵式とorz（着脱は分解作業）

Core 2 Duo SU9400で公称最長4.77時間駆動。
Windows起動中にワンタッチボタン押す事で電源モード切り替えが行え、
「Battery Saving」なら実際には、WEB閲覧でも5時間可能。
ACアダプタも、電源ケーブル込196グラムと軽量小型。（発熱は、やや大きい）

本体の排熱・静音性は優秀。
パームレストも熱くならないし、ファンスケジュール緩やかな為、うるさくも感じ難い。

液晶は135度まで開き、スピーカーはAltec Lansing（サラウンド対応）。

キーボードはアイソレーション。
ピッチ18ミリ、ストロークも充分深く、配列も素直。
タッチも適度な重さだが、カチャカチャ音が気になり、
強くタイプすると中央付近で多少たわむ。

タッチパッドはマルチタッチ対応で、クリックボタンは左右一体型。
パッド面はザラザラ系。右クリックが強く押さないと反応しないのは仕様との事。

HDDは2.5インチで、筐体底面のネジを一通り取り外すと、
トップカバーがキーボードごと分離でき、メモリ増設やHDD交換も行える。

★acer Aspire Timeline AS3810T：

Core 2 Duo SU9400やCore 2 Solo SU3500をいち早く低価格ノートに採用し、
重量1.6 kgながら公称8時間駆動を謳う事で、
ノートPCの価格破壊を牽引して来た実績は余りにも大きい。

サポートに信頼が置けないacer製という事で、当初は私も静観して来たが、
排熱に優れ、登場半年にして例のリコールしかポカやってないってのは立派。

世界シェアがPCメーカーとしての信頼に繋がらないご時世、
やはり法人需要に応えてこそ本物になれると言う事だろう。
（商業サイトと違い、当サイトではショップ系や小メーカーのPCを採り上げる事が殆ど無いが、
それと言うのも、法人への納入実績に乏しいトコのは信用するに足らないからだ。）

ただし、acerの個人サポートが急に良くなった訳でもないので、
Timelineと言えども初心者や1台目需要にはお勧めしない。

AS3810Tに話を戻すと、筐体は金属的で安物に見えない。

液晶は122度しか開かないので、CULV機用液晶の上下視野角では、
姿勢によっては不足する。

スピーカーはDolby Soundだが、評判良くない。

キーボードはピッチ19ミリ。ストロークは深く、たわみも無いが、タッチは軽く、キートップもぐらつく。
Enterキーが右端に来ない配列や、埃が目立ち、取り難いのも難点。

タッチパッドはマルチタッチ対応。ボタン部は左右一体に見えるが、凹むトコは独立してる。
タッチパッドの無効ボタンが付いてる。

メモリ増設やHDD交換は容易だが、ユーザーがやると保証外。

着脱頻度の高い端子ほど手前、USB左右など、端子配列も考えられてるが、
ACアダプタは持ち運べる代物じゃない。

acer、GatewayのWin7アップグレード対応には注意が要る。
アプグレ自体は無償なのだが、メディア送量が950円掛かり、
その支払い方法がVASAまたはMasterの「クレカのみ」となっている。

★Gateway EC3800-35K：

Gatewayはacerグループであり、このEC3800-35Kは、上記AS3810TのCore 2 Duo SU9400版に、
Radeon HD 4330（512MB専用メモリ）を載せた兄弟機。

重量1.8kgながらこちらも8時間駆動を謳い、Radeonは再起動なしにON/OFF可。
排熱にも問題なし。

ジョーシンさん、K’sデンキさんのみの取扱。

★MSI X340 Super：

安いのと安物は違う。X340の実機見れば、私がマトモに語らなかった理由も解ろうってものだ。

妻と僕が大好きな場所の一つ、銀座の伊東屋に行ってきました。目的は手帳とメモ帳の2010年版の購入。これ、わが家の年中行事。Marrさんは社会人になって7年目ですが、すでにスタイルがかなり出来上がっていますので、今年のものにマイナーチェンジを加えただけで、今年も迷わず同じものをご購入してきました。

自分の中ではかなり定着してきたスケジュール管理とメモの体制は以下の通り。前半はアナログ、後半はデジタル。どちらも手放せません。

• 持ち運ぶ紙の手帳はQuo VadisのBusiness Prestige（2007年から4冊目）
• 持ち運ぶ紙のメモ帳はMoleskineの新作ソフトカバーのRuled Notebook
• 会社に据置きの日記型メモ帳はLetts of Londonの31Z（2005年から6冊目）
• iPhone内のメモはmomo（Webと同期）
• カレンダーはMac OS X純正ソフトiCal（Mobile Me経由でiPhone・Webと同期）

ということで、この体制を支えるこだわりのグッズをご紹介。

まずは、Quo VadisのBusiness Prestige。

この子の良いところは、バーティカルタイプのスケジュール帳であること。見開き位置ページで一週間の予定を毎日のタイムラインとともに俯瞰できるこのスタイルは、営業として社外社内で予定が入り、夜も週末も予定が入る身としては、最も使い勝手が良いのです。

この作りは、Mac OS Xの純正カレンダーソフトiCalも同様です。一週間の予定を眺めることのできる（もちろん一日も一ヶ月も可能です）これは、僕がMacを使って一番始めに惚れ込んだソフトでした。後にGoogle Calendarが同じレイアウトのものを発表したのもよく分かります。（本来ビッシリ入った予定はとりあえず白紙にして撮影しています。）

ちなみに、Quo Vadisに書き込んだ内容は、定期的にiCalに書き写していきます。そうすることで、iPhoneやMacから検索可能な状態になるのです。また、iCalに入れることで、予定を組み換えるなど、思考を深めることが出来ますし、予定のリマインダーにもなるのが便利です。

話はQuo Vadisに戻ります。通常Quo Vadisユーザーは純正のカバーを最初に購入し、二年目以降はリフィルのみを買っていきます。僕は、残念ながらQuo Vadis純正のカバーは好みではありませんでしたので、老舗の手帳メーカーAshfordの本革ブックカバーを代用して使っています。これがすでに3年使い込みましたので、かなり年季が入ってきて良い感じに仕上がってきました。

ちなみにペンはドイツStaedtler社のtriplus finelinerの赤と青をずっと使っています。これが一番書きやすい。そして、今年の誕生日に妻からプレゼントされたスイスCaran d’Ache社のボールペン。

このスタイルは、他の人がしているのをほとんど見たことがないので、そういう意味でもかなり気に入っています（笑）。肝心の手帳を開くと、こんな感じ。

さて、次に今年の新作、MoleskineのソフトカバーRuled Notebook。実は、手帳型ノートは買う予定がなかったのですが、このソフトカバーに一目惚れしてしまいました。今までのMoleskineの堅牢さはそのままに、文字通り柔らかな手触りを手に入れた感じ。

ページを開くと、「さぁ、あなたの頭脳から溢れる言葉を、自由に書き留めてください」と言わんばかりの佇まい。どうやったら、こんなノートを作ることが出来るのでしょう…。これは、明日から早速持ち歩くことにします。

ちなみに、Moleskineのすべてのノートに必ず同封されている「伝説的ノートブックの歴史」。モレスキンの超強力ブランディングはここに集約されています。

さて次に、Letts of Londonの31Z。A4サイズより少し大きなデスクダイアリーです。

これは社会人になってまだ駆け出しだった頃に、伊東屋で出会って衝撃を受けたのを覚えています。鮮烈で存在感のある赤。「これをオフィスで持ち歩けたら、きっと恰好良くて仕事の出来るビジネスパーソンになれるだろう」と、Marrさんのモットーである「中身よりも外見」（笑）をそのまま体現したかのような発想で購入したのです。

Letts of Londonは小さなスケジュール帳から、大きな日記帳まで、さまざまなタイプのノートブックを出していますが、この31Zの赤が良いのです。裏返すと、型番が輝いています。

そして、開くとこんな佇まい。

僕は、出勤すると毎日、まずはPC（残念ながらWindows）を立ち上げ、そしてこのLettsを開くのです。打合せや電話での必要になる会社でのメモは、このLettsの「今日の日付」の欄に書き込んでいく。そうすることで、メモが散逸しないで記録として残ります。自分の手で書いたメモですから、記憶にも残っていて、後から「あぁ、その件は確か○週前位だから、Lettsのあのページ辺りに書いたな」とノートの中で検索ができるのです。このスタイルはデジタルには換えがたいものです。

と、今日手に入れたものを紹介していきました。手帳やメモ、スケジュールやタスク管理はは、愛するMacBook AirのiCalやiPhoneのおかげでかなりデジタル化が進みましたが、アナログのグッズを手放すことは出来ません。そこから得られる幸福感も格別なものです。もちろん、仕事のスタイルが変わっていくことで必要となる形態は変わっていくのでしょうが、今はこれが僕にとってのベストなスタイルなのです。

Tout d’abord, deux questions fondamentales se posent : Mac Portable ou de bureau ? Pour quelle(s) utilisation(s) ? Un autre point à ne pas oublier : Ce n’est pas la puissance de l’ordinateur qui compte, c’est l’utilisation qui en est faite. L’autre point qui déterminera l’achat d’un Mac est bien sûr, le budget. Les portables étaient souvent inférieurs aux ordinateurs de bureau, cependant aujourd’hui, ils sont au même niveau et les remplacent aisément. Apple propose trois sortes d’ordinateurs portables : MacBook, MacBook Pro, et MacBook Air. Ce dernier est très compact et très fin mais dispose d’une connectique ridicule qui limite son utilisation. il est parfait en mobilité mais n’offre pas le meilleur qualité/prix de la gamme Apple.

Le MacBook n’est disponible qu’en une seule configuration qui suffit largement pour toutes les utilisations, et c’est une bonne machine pour découvrir le monde Apple sans se ruiner. Son rapport qualité/prix est très intéressant.

Le MacBook Pro est disponible en trois tailles : 13″, 15″ et 17″. C’est l’ordinateur qui offre le plus de configurations, cependant, je pense que la première version 13″ à 2,26Ghz est moins intéressante que le MacBook qui propose plus pour seulement 899€ (250Go de disque dur contre 160Go). L’autre configuration en 2,53Ghz est intéressante et offre un meilleur rapport qualité/prix. Le 15″ est un bon compromis entre compacité et performances, le tout dans un joli design. Il offre l’accès à des cartes graphiques plus performantes. Le 17″ reste compact mais devient plus “transportable” que portable (3 Kgs), mais c’est également le plus puissant de la gamme.

L’iMac est disponible en deux modèles, 21,5″ et 27″ à travers quatre configurations. C’est la machine de bureau idéale : design, performante, et avec un écran de qualité. Là aussi, le rapport qualité/prix est très intéressant. Le haut de gamme intègre les nouveaux processeurs Core i5 et i7. Elle est parfaite pour toute les utilisations.

Le Mac Mini offre un meilleur rapport qualité/prix depuis sa récente mise à jour. J’en parle plus en détails ici.

Le Mac Pro est la machine ultime. Son prix peut grimper à plus de 10000€. C’est un ordinateur pratique puisque évolutif, c’est à dire que vous pourrez ajouter facilement RAM, disques durs, cartes graphiques…

Au final, le choix d’un Mac dépend réellement de vos utilisations et puisque le site le permet, configurez bien votre Mac en fonction de vos besoins pour obtenir la machine qui vous convient parfaitement. N’oubliez pas que vous pourrez toujours upgrader votre ordinateur au fil du temps si plus de puissance est nécessaire. さっきの記事が、個人的には悔しい内容だったので、連続でエントリー。今回は、Kindle 2が手元に届いて、更に充実したなぁ、と思うStarbucksでの過ごし方についてです。

実は週に数回、Marrさんは五反田のStarbucksで時間を過ごします（そのせいで、店員さんにもすっかり覚えられてしまっているのですが…）。仕事が終わった後のひととき、頭の中を整理したり、情報をインプット・アウトプットするには、ちょうどいい場所がStarbucks、ちょうどいい媒体がMacBook AirとKindle 2、そしてiPhone 3Gなのです。

iPhoneは初代を手にして既に2と1/4年余、音楽も聴けるし、情報も引き出せる、写真も撮れる、Twitterもできる、と何でもありのオールラウンドプレイヤーですから、片時も手放すことの出来ない必須ツールとなっています。

ただし、長文を作成したり、スケジュールを俯瞰したり、頭の中を整理するにはiPhoneは向いていません（というか僕には合っていません）でしたので、そこで登場したのが（させたのが）MacBook Air。持ち運びやすいこの子は、妥協のないフルサイズキーボードの威力も大きく、僕の要求を十分に満たしてくれる相棒になっています。

（スタバでは、いつも「ドリップコーヒーのショートとシュガードーナツ」を頼みます。）

ただ、いくら薄くて軽いとはいえ、会社のバッグに入れて運ぶにはちょっと荷が重い。ですので、スタバにご一緒する機会も少し少なめなのですが、なにしろこの子がいるとアウトプットのスピードがぐんぐん速くなります。

そして、この度Marrさんのもとに嫁入り（？）したのがAmazon Kindle 2。この子は、現状では英文しか表示できないわがままな外国人状態なのですが、なんとしゃべることが出来ます。つまり、英語をしゃべる子なのです（？？）。

ええと、きちんと書くとText-to-Speechという機能で、書籍の文章を読み上げてくれます。これが、声はいわゆるコンピューター声（とはいえ、かなりいい）。しかも、ところどころで、「その読み方はないだろ、あんた。」という部分はあるのですが、そういう突っ込みが出来るというのは、ほどんどの部分の音読時の読み方が違和感のないものだからこそ。

今日、初めてスタバにデビューさせてあげて、Text-to-Speechさせながら、この間Kindle Storeで買ってみた”The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs; How to Be Insanely Great in Front of Any Audience“を読んでみました。

すると、これがなんともすごいのです。新たな発見がありました！

例えば、小学校や中学校で、先生が（もしくは他の生徒が）教科書を音読してくれて、自分が教科書を目で追っているのを思い出してください。頑張らなくても文章の内容が頭に入ってくると思うのです。今回のKindle 2のText-to-Speech機能はまさにそれ。ぐいぐいとインプットされていきます。これは想定外でした。もう止められなくなりそう！

このように、インプットもアウトプットもまかなう何でも屋のiPhone 3G、アウトプット力を強く後押ししてくれるMacBook Air、そしてインプットの強力な味方であるKindle 2。まさに自宅と会社の中間となるサード・プレイスを提供するStarbucksで過ごす時間が、これからより充実したものになっていきそうです！

It all began back in early August when my much-loved MacBook Air started developing a crack on one end of the hinge. Knowing how to turn on a computer and proficiently use a few programs makes me far from any kind of technical genius. I know nothing about the hardware, so I figured the crack was nothing serious and I’d eventually have to take it in. But within a few days it started making a popping noise at the hinge every time I opened and closed it. Never did I think this little crack would soon result in a completely non-functioning computer. Again, I just use the computer; I leave the hardware knowledge to others, and as it turns out, I’m not sure those supposed experts are as knowledgeable as I used to give them credit for.

But, I’m not worried. I’m thinking, ‘Hey, I have a two-year warranty on this machine and it’s not my fault the hinge is defective.’ Okay, it apparently wasn’t my most brilliant thought because little did I know that Best Buy and the infamous Geek Squad will do anything before they are forced, silently kicking and screaming to cover a customer’s warranty.

I’ll admit I made a crucial error early on. I signed their paperwork that authorized them to evaluate my computer, but I didn’t read their 8 pt. notes in the upper portion of it that said, “computer looks like it has been dropped.” First of all, I asked Mr. Geek Squad what I was signing and he said, “Oh, it just allows us to evaluate your computer and determine what’s wrong.” Fair enough. NO, NOT FAIR ENOUGH. I’d had a lengthy conversation with the guy where I made it clear that I hadn’t dropped the computer. I explained how it started as a small crack in the hinge area, blah, blah. And, turns out he really was hearing me say “blah, blah..” as he typed in “…appears that customer dropped computer.” He may as well have written, “this woman is crazy if she thinks that her warranty is good for anything in this store…”

I could draw this thing out as long as it took me to resolve it so instead I’ll attempt to hit the highlights. First, they made me pay $150 for an external hard drive to pull off my data because they couldn’t guarantee they could salvage it. Again, I was sure the problem didn’t have anything to do with the hard drive but I really, really didn’t want to lose all my data. Yes, I’ll admit it, I had no backup. So, I paid the money and waited, and waited and waited.

After a couple of early calls made by me, I was told it was still under evaluation. Then came the phone messages that they could repair my computer for $1,099 and to please call and authorize the repair.  Right, when pigs fly. I promptly called back and said no, nada, never gonna happen. I asked to speak to the supervisor who conveniently only works hours that the rest of us work, so making a call into him and being put on hold for who knows how long is super duper convenient and so customer-service oriented.

Two days later when I spoke with Supervisor Joe, I explained to him that Nadine (name changed to protect her stupidity) said that because the paperwork said I had dropped it they couldn’t retract that and therefore couldn’t consider fixing something under warranty if it had been dropped. I must have told Nadine way too many times that it had not been dropped but she then brought to my attention that in the 8 pt. type it did say “it appears to have been dropped.” And, the only way to retract that would be to send the computer and paperwork back to the store and have them change it there. I must have laughed a little too loudly when I reminded her that they were dealing with technology in the 21^st century and why on god’s green earth would they have to physically ship something back when it could all be handled electronically. She said she would make a note to hold the computer and that I would be contacting Joe.

Joe the supervisor who seemed very normal and actually did all the right things found in customer service 101 – empathetic, admitted they could have handled it differently, etc, but then proceeded to tell me that the computer had already been shipped back but assured me more than once that I didn’t have to do anything. He also admitted that there had been a service recall from Apple on its defective hinges found on Macbook Airs. Imagine that. And, that they would fix it under warranty. He was very reassuring but finally admitted that he would be leaving for a three week vacation, but swore his copious notes would be passed on to Jay Jay in his absence. He was so reassuring I fell for it.

Two weeks later I checked in – again. I ended up with Nadine (remember her?) who said the computer was still sitting in Seattle and she couldn’t find anything from Joe, but did remember the issue. I came unglued and told Nadine that enough was enough. Get the computer back and get it fixed. She said she would contact the local store and have them overnight it back.

A week later the computer was somewhere between Seattle and Dubai or Iowa. I have no idea where their repairs are done. Finally, I’m told it’s been checked in but there’s no repair schedule as of yet. With another call I learned that a new screen had been ordered.

A few days later I check online and it says something about the customer has been contacted. I had not been contacted so I called the local store and learned that they would be replacing my computer.

So, after two months and 10 days, 20 calls, a letter from the store at one point indicating my computer had been sitting there for 30 days and I needed to pick it up, and more frustration than any one human being should have to endure for a damn computer, I left the local Best Buy yesterday with a brand new MacBook Air.

Here it is. Perseverance does pay off! Best Buy be damned!

Having a new, shiny toy should make me feel better about Best Buy, but it doesn’t. I’m disgusted beyond words at the lengths they went to so they wouldn’t have to honor this warranty. In my estimation, it was a BAD BUY from BEST BAD BUY, and I will do everything in my power to never spend money in that store again. And, I will continue to hold out hope that the economy will recover and with it will come big box stores that can provide much needed competition for BEST BAD BUY.

Jeder kennt sie seid geraumer Zeit, die Computer und Lap Tops der Firma Apple. Da fragt man sich doch ob diese Geräte wirklich so gut sind das ihr Preis gerechtfertigt ist? Dazu muss ich sagen: Ja! Apple ist mit seinem System Microsoft bei weitem überlegen, auch mit dem Betriebssystem OS, das hochwertiger ist als Windows. Natürlich gibt es bei Apple aber auch sehr viele Lifestyle Produkte, wie zum Beispiel das Macbook Air, das eigentlich rein zum angeben konstruiert wurde, weil die paar Gramm Gewicht weniger ansonsten nicht grad viel bringen, gegenüber einem anderen Lap Top. Allerdings sind das auch optisch sehr schöne Produkte, die wenn man es rein von schöner Optik und hoher funktionalität betrachtet durchaus den hohen Preis rechtfertigen. Einen grossen weiteren Vorteil bei allen Apple Produkten stellt die Tatsache dar, dass es absolut keinen Computervirus gibt, der auf OS greift! Ihr könnt damit todsicher im Internet unterwegs sein, braucht euch keine Gedanken amchen einen Virus auf euren PC oder euer Lap Top zu bekommen. Fazit: Für den kleinen Mann mit nicht gerade allzuviel Geld ist Microsoft zu empfehlen, für den Mann mit Geld en mass klar Apple. Informiert euch und entscheidet euch dann!
