I used a 1st generation MacBookAir with this. As you may already be aware that MacBook does have its fair share of overheating criticism out there.

I first encountered this when we in the office were forced to relocate for about 6 weeks from stations. I had to use my MacBook offsite and it went into shut off mode. I can tell it was a cooling issue. Thus the Belkin cooler did perform and solved the heating issue for now! If things do change otherwise i will update the review. I have had it now for about 2 weeks.

Desktop-Macs

Der kleine Mac aus dem Hause Apple verfügt über 2 bzw 2,26 GHz. Die Grafikkarte ist die Nvidia GeForce 9400 M mit 128 MB RAM oder 256 MB shared Memory (Grafikkarte nutzt den Arbeitsspeicher mit). Die Festplatten kann man wahlweise mit 120, 250 oder 320 GB auswählen. Standardmäßig wir der Mini mit 1 bzw. 2 GB RAM, je nach Modell ausgeliefert.  Ein SuperDrive ist ebenfalls eingebaut. AirPort, Bluetooth, sowie ein Ethernet-Anschluss sind vorhanden. Ein FireWire 800 Anschluss und fünf USB 2.0-Anschlüsse warten auf das Einstecken von Drucker, Scanner usw.. Ein Mini-DVI sowie Mini-Displayport-Anschluss lädt zum Anschließen des Apple Cinema Displays ein.

Der Mini eignet sich perfekt als Einstiegs-Mac. Gerade der Preis sowie die Dimensionen machen ihn zu einem interessanten Computer. Abstriche muss man jedoch bei der Ausstattung in Kauf nehmen. So ist weder eine Tastatur, noch Maus dabei. Auch ein Bildschirm sowie WebCam (Apple nennt diese iSight) fehlt.  Gerade das schlanke und in sich stimmige Design machen den Mini zu einem wahren Eye-Catcher.

Der beliebteste Desktop-Mac von Apple gibt es mit den Bildschirmauflösungen von 20‘’ und 24‘’.  Kann wahlweise mit 2.66, 2.93 oder 3.06 GHz Prozessoren sowie 2 bzw 4 GB RAM (möglich sind bis zu 8 GB RAM ) ausgestattet werden. Die Festplatte ist mit 320, 540 und 1 TB erweiterbar.  Die Grafikkarte variiert von der Nvidia Geforce 9400 M im Einstiegs-iMac über die Nvidia Geforce GT 120 und 130 bis hin zur ATI Radeon HD 4850. In der Ausstattung enthalten ist eine Tastatur (mit oder ohne Zahlenblock, wahlweise auch eine Wireless-Tastatur), sowie eine Maus (wahlweise auch als kabellose Version erhältlich). Der iMac ist das Rundum-Paket und ist für die meisten Nutzer das Optimum aus Leistung und Kompaktheit. Gerade die Dimensionen des iMacs wissen zu beeindrucken. Auch die Leistung lässt sich sehen und reicht für die meisten Aufgaben als Privatuser aus. Auch Spiele stellen für den iMac keine Probleme dar.

Der Mac Pro ist der derzeit schnellste Mac. Er wird mit einem Quad-Core (4 Kerne) Prozessor mit 2.66 oder 2.93 GHz sowie als mit 2 x 4 Kernen mit 2.26, 2.66 oder 2.93 GHz angeboten.  Standardmäßig sind 2 bzw. 4 GB RAM verbaut, können jedoch auf bis zu 32 GB erweitert werden. Als Grafikkarte wird die Geforce GT 120 mit 512 MB, oder die Radeo HD 4870 mit 512 angeboten, die auch mehrfach in ein System verbaut werden können. Eine Airportkarte muss extra dazugekauft werden. Bluetooth, sowie zwei Ethernet-Anschlüsse sind vorhanden. Es können wahlweise bis zu 4 Festplatten mit 640 GB oder 1 TB ( = 1000 GB) eingebaut werden.  Ein 16x SuperDrive ist ebenfalls enthalten. 5 USB Anschlüsse (3 auf der Rückseite, 2 auf der Frontseite),  4 Firewire-Anschlüsse (2 vorne, 2 hinten), optisch-digitaler Audionein- und ausgang sind vorhanden (Toslink-Anschlüsse). Ein Mini-Displayport-Anschluss lädt zum Anschließen des Apple Cinema Displays ein.

In der Ausstattung enthalten ist eine Tastatur (mit oder ohne Zahlenblock, wahlweise auch eine Wireless-Tastatur), sowie eine Maus (wahlweise auch als kabellose Version erhältlich). Der Mac Pro ist das Zugpferd der Macs. Kein anderer Mac ist derzeit so schnell wie ein Mac Pro, was sich zum einem im Preis niederschlägt, zum anderen, aber auch im von Apple auserkornen Verwendungszweck wiederspiegelt. So soll der Mac Pro vor allem im Geschäftsbereich verwendet werden, wo hohe Leistung gefordert und erwartet wird. Beim Mac Pro ist kein Display enthalten, dies muss separat gekauft werden.

Mobile Macs

Das Macbook wird mit 2.0 oder 2.4 GHz ausgeliefert. Besitzt 2 GB RAM, der auf bis zu 4 GB erweitert werden kann. Eine 160, 250 oder 320 GB – Festplatte kann ausgewählt werden. Optional ist auch eine 128 oder 256 GB SSD-Festplatte verbaut werden. Als Grafikkarte wird die Geforce 9400 M mit 256 MB shared Memory (Grafikkarte nutzt den Arbeitsspeicher mit) verwendet. Ein SuperDrive, eine iSight, sowie Airport, Bluetooth und ein Ethernet-Anschluss und 2 USB-Anschlüsse sind vorhanden. Ein Mini-Displayport-Anschluss lädt zum Anschließen des Apple Cinema Displays ein.

Das Macbook verfügt über ein Unibody-Gehäuse, d. h. das Grundkörper wurde aus einem Stück Aluminium gefräst und ist so widerstandsfähiger und stabiler gegen Fremdeinwirkungen von außen. Das Display misst 13.3‘’ und wird mit LEDs beleuchtet. Das Macbook erreicht eine Akkulaufzeit von bis zu 5 Stunden.

Das Macbook ist meist der Einstieg zu Apple und Mac überhaupt. Mobilität und gute Leistung zu einem guten Preis steht hier im Vordergrund. Das Design ist sehr ansprechend und die Verarbeitung setzt Maßstäbe. Der mobile Mac schlecht hin.

Das Macbook Pro wird mit einem 15“ oder 17“ Display ausgeliefert. Beim 17“ Modell kann wahlweise auch ein mattes Display bestellt werden. Beide Versionen können mit 2.4, 2.66 oder 2,93 GHz ausgerüstet werden. Der RAM kann von 2 bis 4 GB aufgewertet werden, beim 17“ Modell sind sogar 8 GB möglich. Bei der Grafikkarte ist neben der Geforce 9400 M eine Geforce 9600 M enthalten, die wahlweise dazugeschaltet werden kann. Die Geforce 9600 M ist in zwei Versionen erhältlich: mit 256 MB oder 512 MB. Die Festplatte  kann mit bis zu 320 GB ausgestattet werden. Auch 128 oder 256 GB SSD-Festplatten sind möglich.  Ein SuperDrive, eine iSight, sowie Airport, Bluetooth und ein Ethernet-Anschluss und 2 USB-Anschlüsse sowie FireWire 800 – Anschluss sind vorhanden. Beim 17“ Modell kann der Akku und die Festplatte nur von Apple getauscht werden, da dieses Modell komplett geschlossen ist. Dies kommt von dem neuen Akku, den Apple für das MBP entwickelt hat. Mit diesem sind bis zu 8 Stunden Akkulaufzeit möglich. Das 15“ Modell bietet 5 Stunden,

Das Macbook Pro ist am besten für Arbeitsfelder geeignet, wo hohe Leistung im mobilen Umfeld gefragt ist. Beide Modelle bietet die Leistung eines Desktop-Macs. Derzeit gibt es keine schnelleren Macs für den mobilen Einsatz.

Das Macbook Air ist mit 1,6 oder 1,86 GHz ausgestattet. Der RAM ist fest mit 2 GB verbaut. Die Festplatte ist mit 120 GB eingebaut. Optional kann eine SSD-Festplatte mit 128 GB verbaut werden. Die Grafikkarte ist eine etwas langsamer getaktete Geforce 9400 M, um eine zu große Wärmeentwicklung zu vermeiden. Als Anschlüsse sind ein USB, ein Audioausgang, sowie ein Mini-Displayport vorhanden.

Das Macbook Air wird ohne SuperDrive ausgeliefert. Dies kann separat gekauft werden.

Das Air ist das Sahnestückchen von Apple. Es bietet wenig Anschlüsse nach außen an. Apple umgeht das Fehlen des SuperDrives mit dem WLAN Zugriff auf ein Laufwerk in einem Mac oder PC. Die Software hierzu wird auf der Installations-CD des Airs mitgeliefert. Auch die Dünne des Macbooks fasziniert immer wieder aufs neue. Die Prozessor- und Grafikkartengeschwindigkeit sind jedoch nicht für Spieler geeignet. Der Anwendungsbereich liegt mehr im E-Mail-Schreiben, Surfen und Textverarbeitung. Als Einstiegs- oder Basismac ist das Air leider nicht zum Empfehlen, da es mit zu wenigen Anschlüssen ausgestattet ist. Als mobilen Zweitmac zum Desktop-Mac macht es aber durchaus Sinn.

Apple vient tout juste de publier 2 mises à jour pour les MacBook sortis en octobre et novembre (pour le MBA). Il s’agit du firmware EFI et du firmware SMC

Voici le communiqué de Apple pour l’EFI : 

“Cette mise à jour améliore la stabilité des ordinateurs MacBook Pro et corrige certains problèmes liés à la réactivation après suspension d’activité, à l’USB et à la compatibilité des périphériques.

Une fois le programme interne correctement installé sur votre Mac, la version de votre ROM de démarrage sera…

Et voici le communiqué pour le SMC :

“Cette mise à jour du programme interne de la SMC améliore la détection et la précision du voyant lumineux de l’adaptateur secteur MagSafe Power Adapter, et de l’indicateur de chargement de la batterie sur les MacBook et MacBook Pro commercialisés fin 2008.

L’application de mise à jour s’installe dans le dossier /Applications/Utilitaires puis se lance automatiquement. Suivez les instructions de l’application pour accomplir la procédure de mise à jour.”

Après avoir déjà fait des batteries externes pour les MacBook Pro et Air, la société QuickerTeck propose désormais pour les nouveaux MacBook une batterie externe.

Cette batterie prévoit tout de même une autonomie de 6 à 10 heures selon votre utilisation.

Le seul bémol reste son prix qui reste assez élevé : 450$

Alors qu’aucun fabricant de PC n’a réussi a égaler le MacBook Air en terme de puissance/poids, Apple veut encore faire perdre quelques grammes à son porte-document !

AppleInsider, qui a réussi à obtenir quelques infos, publie un article, sur le prochain MacBook Air, ce dernier est en phase de test, et certaines parties d’Aluminium sont remplacées par du carbone !

Le MBA ne passera toujours pas sous la barre des 1 Kilo, mais il s’en approche vraiment, son poids passerait de 1,36Kg à 1,26Kg !

Le carbone coûte beaucoup plus cher que l’Aluminium donc espérons que si le choix du carbone devient définitif, le prix n’en prendra pas un coup, car le MacBook Air est déjà assez cher pour ce que c’est… Non ?

Martedì sera si è tenuto l’Apple Special Event di ottobre. Evento nel quale c’è stata la consueta presentazione di Steve Jobs. In questa serata sono state due le grandi novità: il rinnovamento di “quasi” l’intera gamma dei MacBook e del nuovo Cinema Display. Cominciamo a scoprire nel dettaglio i primi citati.

I MacBook e MacBook Pro sono stati completamente aggiornati. Ora sono fatti interamente d’alluminio e dalla colorazione tra il grigio per il corpo dei portatili e nero per quel che riguarda i tasti e lo schermo. Inoltre è stato introdotto il nuovo trackpack fatto in vetro: più grande del 39% che permette l’uso di quattro dita e che ha la funzione di unico bottone. Una novità che porta comodità nell’utilizzo dei notebook. A livello di prestazioni ci sono grandi migliorierie, soprattutto per quel che riguarda l’installazione delle nuove schede grafiche Nvidia. Le quali, secondo i dati ufficiali di Apple, sono tra 1,5x e 6,5X più veloci delle precedenti Intel e dalle prestazioni grafiche notevoli. Inoltre è stata tolta la porta MiniDvd a scapito della nuova Mini DislayPort. Infine è stato mantenuto il vecchio modello di MacBook, quello bianco, dal nuovo costo: 949 Euro e pure il MacBook Air è stato pure lui aggiornato a livello di prestazioni. L’altra novità è il nuovo Apple Cinema Dislay da 24 pollici. Ora è simile esteticamente all’iMac, è dotato di un cavo da 3 uscite: una MagSafe (cavo che carica la batteria dei MacBook), una USB e la nuova porta DisplayPort la quale permette lo scambio più veloce di dati e risoluzioni maggiori. Lo schermo ha una risoluzione massima di 1920 x 1200 pixels, ha gli altoparlanti incorporati, 3 porte USB, la camera (webcam) iSight e costa attorno agli 800 Euro.

Wow, what a day.  Apple today rolled out the newest generation of their MacBook computers.  The most impressive upgrade of course rest with the new all glass and aluminum MacBook which features a glass trackpad with new multi-touch gestures introduced and a nice LED-backlit display.  Apart from what’s changed outside, we see some major overhaul to what’s inside as well.  The MacBook now comes with an Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics chipset, a 2GHz Core 2 Duo configuration with a 160GB hard drive for $1,299 and a 2.4GHz offering with a 250GB hard drive for $1,599 (which gives you the bonus backlit keyboard as well).

The new MacBook Pro, according to MacWorld, “will feature two graphic chipsets, the Nvidia GeForce 9400M embedded on the motherboard and the Nvidia GeForce 9600M as a discrete part. The graphics deliver 32 parallel graphics cores and 125 gigaflops of graphics performance. Jobs said that using the 9400M you get five hours of battery life and four hours with the 9600M.”

The MacBook Pro also features the same glass trackpad, a more unibody design which wraps the aluminium casing around the black glass iMac frame on the front display.  The 15.4-inch MacBook Pro now comes with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo chip and 250GB hard drive for $1,999 and the other with a 2.53GHz processor and 320GB hard drive for $2,499.As for the 17-inch model, the processor speed remains at 2.5GHz (upgradable to 2.6GHz), memory been increased to 4GB and storage capacity, a whopping 320GB.

As for the MacBook Air, it got updated to the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics chipset as well. Storage wise, the 128GB solid state drive is now available, along with a standard 120GB drive. The base model is going for $1799, or go with the SSD model with 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo for $2499 (due in November.)

Other addition to the lineup includes the 24-inch LED Cinema Display, (1,920-by-1,200-pixel resolution) which features a built-in iSight camera and microphone, stereo speakers, and three-port USB 2.0 hub. The same aluminum and glass enclosure design, resembling the Apple’s current iMac design.

Wow, that was fast.  Apple slashed a big chunk out of their MacBook Air, at least with the SSD version.  For those who just bought it recently…..major bummer.
