I launched this website in conjunction with my first finished application. I added it to macupdate.com and posted a page here. In less than 24 hours I’ve had over 100 downloads and 68 visits to this website. And I’m still not in Google’s index.

I think this is pretty good going, especially since my other site peaked at 12 views on a single day, although it is updated much less frequently than this (hopefully) will be.

It will be interesting to see how the downloads of my application continue now I’m not on the front page of MU anymore.

MacUpdate è sicuramente uno dei siti in cui i maniaci dell’ultima release come me passano maggior tempo per essere aggioranti su tutte le uscite di software giorno dopo giorno ed è un utilissima risorsa per quando si cerca un programma per svolgere un dato compito.
Di tanto in tanto MacUpdate propone dei bundle, ovvero dei pacchetti composti da diversi software che vengono venduti ad un prezzo molto vantaggioso. Caratteristica peculiare dei bundle di MacUpdate è il fatto che non tutti i programmi del bundle sono disponibili subito, i più “gustosi” vengono sbloccati solo dopo un certo numero di vendite.

L’ultimo bundle scade tra 5 giorni e da ieri sera è stato completamente sbloccato permettendo l’acquisto anche di Parallels incluso nel bundle. Se considerate che il solo Parallels costa 80$ e tutto il bundle ne costa $64.99 decisamente il vantaggio c’è anche se siete interessati solamente a parallels.
Altro software degno di menzione è SoundStudio che è decisamente un ottimo tool se non si vuole ricorrere al più completo (e decisamente costoso) Peak per l’editing dei file sonori.
Io ho già acquistato il boundle e devo dire che è stata l’occasione per scoprire anche altri programmi a cui altrimenti non avrei mai pensato, Leap e Typeinator in particolare non sono male. Il primo permette di fare ricerche con i dati di Spotlight ma con un interfaccia molto più potente, che vi consente ad esempio di usare QuickLook sui risultati della ricerca. Il secondo invece è più un tool da smanettoni ma lo trovo utile. Potete inserire delle abbreviazioni nel programma e specificare come verranno espanse, ogni volta che digitate l’abbrevizione in qualsiasi campo di testo dal TextEdit al browser a NeoOffice Typinator lo sostituirà con la versione espansa. Ad esempio di default se digitate “dt” lui vi metterà la data corrente.
Su due piedi può semprare la cosa più inutile del mondo ma intanto mi ha risolto il problema delle firme su GMail. Il servizio di posta della grande G infatti non permette di usare firme HTML nè di definire firme diverse per i vari account. Ora io voglio sia una cosa che l’altra, voglio una firma con una formattazione e voglio che appaia solo quando uso uno dei miei account altrimenti devo poterne usare una diversa. E’ stato sufficiente crearmi un abbrevizione in Typeinator e ora alla fine della mia mail devo solo digitare ctsign per avere la mia firma

Update (2009): It’s been at least a few months since I stopped using this. Maybe I’m no more busy enough. And I was a bit hassled by the fact this app doesn’t feel that much native to OS X. It needs a bit of interaction tweaking.

Until yesterday, it’s been a few times I resisted trying MenuCalendarClock.  Its name is ugly and its web site isn’t much better at selling it.  But it’s almost exactly what I was longing for.  I was tired of bringing up the whole iCal interface, or firing up the Dashboard, just to see my daily appointments.  I wanted something more streamlined into my workflow, more accessible but still capable, yet not distracting.  Thanks to MacUpdate’s Parallels Bundle and Chris Pirillo, I found the answer to my need in MenuCalendarClock.

It’s as slick as it looks in this screenshot and it’s even better.  The search box works wonders to bring up anything that’s been on your calendar but you don’t remember when, and it’s just where it’s needed.  Double-clicking on something either brings up iCal or a window to edit a task’s details.  In short, it rocks.

Of course, it could be even better.  I’d like to be able to specify the date format of the events view.  Repeating the year and month for each one of the three days shown looks silly to me.  I’d much rather see the name of the day completely spelled out, like “vendredi le 18“, “samedi le 19“, and “lundi le 21“.  (Yes, French is my native language.)

MenuCalendarClock comes at the price of 20$, for either iCal or Entourage.  If you’re quick enough, you could also get it like me in the great deal that is the Parallels Bundle.  Finally, if you just want the slick calendar view without the events and tasks view, the basic version of the application will come free to you.

I knew I would someday want to buy Leap and MenuCalendarClock.
I knew I might someday need Art Text and StoryMill.

I think I learned the existence of this bundle on TUAW.
I checked it on MacUpdate, including the screencast.
I read again about it on another blog.
And another time on another blog I’m subscribed to.

And still, with all the knowledge I have of these apps, I wasn’t sure I’d purchase the bundle.  I even closed its tab in my browser – bad sign.

But then, Chris Pirillo published this post that hooked me.
I read it and bought the bundle; hence this post to share it with you.
