On this rainy, blustery Saturday, I stumbled upon a few old images that I thought might be fun to resurface.

These are some early beginnings to PaddyWag – in fact one of these images was the precursor that sprung the idea in the first place.

Motocross Star Jason Lawrence has been sent to Jail!

Many respected racing sources such as Cycle News and RacerX are reporting that motocross superstar, Yamaha rider, number 338 Jason Lawrence has been sentenced to one year in jail!! More Information Click Here

Beauty Pageants were created to show that all girls are beautiful. Right. The Chitlin’ Strut is a glitz pageant (meaning full make up, hair, dresses, etc). It was done to raise money for the town. It’s a family oriented pageant.

We follow 11 year old Madison who loves being on stage. They’re picking out dresses (her and her mom) and everything she picks her mom disagrees. Last year she won because she was the only one in her category, this year there are others in her group. She’s “a little large for pageant girls.” She’s practicing in her new high heals.  She knows that her mom’s criticism comes from the heart.

Next we meet Aubrey, age 10, who has been in over 100 pageants. She wants to be Ms. South Carolina or Ms. America when she grows up.

The third girl is Allie, age 7. She wanted to do pageants because she saw her mother’s videos. She likes crowns because they’re sparkly. They don’t use false eyelashes, spray tans, etc. They take the natural approach.

Aubrey gets a full body spray. (It looks way fake.)

Madison is nervous. The dad points out that the cost of the dresses prevents him from getting a golf cart.

Allie practices in front of her family. The brothers take pictures.

Aubrey won the 7-9 year old division last year. Now she’s doing the 10-12 division. She gets a long dress now. They go to the dress store (the sell the dress she no longer fits in and uses the money to buy a new one.) This is her favorite part.

Allie goes through her pictures with her mom to choose which one to enter for the most photogenic category. Her mother was afraid that there would be some negative stigmatism for her doing pageants but so far they haven’t encountered it.

Madison gets her a practice hairstyle run. Her mom will do it herself on the day of.

Aubrey uses whitening strips. Her mother thinks her smile is what makes her stand out. It tastes really bad.

The pageant has a rehearsal at a separate time than the actual show. There are 56 contestants in the pageant this year.

Allie’s mother says that the moment her daughter doesn’t want to do a pageant anymore they will be done. Her friend comes over and they practice their pageant steps. (Her friend is going to a different pageant and therefore not coming to the Chitlin’ Strut.)

At Madison’s house they’re packing for the pageant. Last year it was only the second contest she had ever done.

Aubrey’s stylist tells her the most important thing is for her to have fun. She has a coach named Tara who is also competing in the contest in the older age category. They remind her that inside beauty is what enhances her outside beauty. Aubrey does very little practice, she usually picks it up in a few minutes. (It isn’t actually sports wear it’s just not a dress.)

Madison mother has taken on a part time job to help fund the pageants.

Allie’s mom tries to let her have fun and Allie’s laughing throughout the process. Her grandmother also came to watch her.

Aubrey puts on fake lashes that she doesn’t like them but they look good. (The pageant director says she prefers glitz to natural because it shows how far a girl will go to look beautiful.)

Time for the show to begin:

Category 1 is 0-12 months. I love how they describe what the babies who can’t walk or talk want to be when they grow up.

Finally 7-9 year old bracket. Allie’s definitely the cutest and has the biggest smile. Her mom seems to be more nervous than Allie.

10-12 year olds. Evening wear is first. Aubrey is first. She looked confident. Then comes Maddie. She looks a little less sure of herself, without a real smile. One of the girls who we aren’t following looks like she could win it. Now they have to rush to prep for Sportswear.

Allie and Aubrey look very comfortable on stage. Maddie seems nervous. But once on stage she seems fine. Her mom realizes it might be time to get her daughter a coach to teach her the small things like when to turn her head, etc.

Results time. Allie says she wants to win but wants the other girls to get some awards too. She gets Most Photogenic, Best Hair, and the Queen of her age group.

In the 10-12 year old group: Aubrey gets most photogenic., Best eyes, best dressed, best sportswear, best hair.

Maddie gets 3rd runner up (out of 4). And of course, Aubrey gets Queen.

I don’t mind seeing 10-12 year olds in beauty pageants. They seem to be enjoying, I just don’t understand the baby category. They don’t know what’s going on, they can’t even walk much less choose if they want to be involved.
