La quindicenne Maddy, orfana dei genitori per un incidente d’auto, si trova a fare da “mamma” e da custode della sorella maggiore, che ne sarebbe la tutrice, la quale si ritrova incinta che non sa tenere o meno, e di certo non ha intenzione di dirlo al padre del bimbo. Un bel romanzo sulle famiglie allargate di oggi che non scade nel buonismo e nel lieto fine a tutti i costi, ma che ci racconta di come sia difficile adattarsi anche a cambiamenti positivi come potrebbe essere la nascita di un bambino, e anche il rifiuto della stessa maternità che può derivare.

I haven’t forgotten that I promised to tell you more about my purchases at Bell, Book & Candle, the used bookstore that I visited while in McDonough, GA! It was a large shop with a wide variety of books. I headed straight for the “Classics” section, and after the briefest of scans I noticed these:

Could you have passed these up? They’re part of a series that was published “on the occasion of Penguin’s 60th anniversary“. Aside from the Washington Irving stories, I’ve never read any of these, although the authors are all ones that are on my list. I figure the tiny books will be excellent additions to my reading stack for the Readathon on December 5th.

While these were easily packable, I scooted my butt out of the store before I was tempted by anything else! Later my friend caught me playing with them (I was taking pictures for my blog!!) and she laughed, but her daughter was impressed and had fun playing with them too.

In other news, I’ve updated my Woolf in Winter post to include a tentative list of the people (gleaned from Frances and Claire and Emily’s posts as well as mine) who have expressed interest in joining us for Mrs. Dalloway specifically, or for all four books. The list is long, and there are quite a few new blogs for me to explore – and it’s not even everyone who wants to be involved! Very exciting.

All that dark stuff’s finally over which is good because I was really getting sick of it. Now I’m totally into LIGHT. I light candles and tea lights and put them all around my room. It makes the whole place just glow. It’s probably got to do with the wind and cold, the gloomy, constant rain and the fact that it feels like night all the time when I get home from school. I’m out the door before seven in the morning and not back from school until five, so it’s ALWAYS dark, like some freaky science fiction movie or what my friend says about Finland.

I love watching the flames flicker and the way they shine and glitter almost. My parents say “it’s a lovely thing to do” as long as I don’t set the curtains on fire. Good to know they’re on top of that.

The other night at our Halloween party – seemed more like their Halloween party – our house was just an accident waiting to happen. There were all these tall candlesticks and candelabra-thingies on top of crepe paper and next to pillows which really freaked me out so I put water bottles in all the rooms just in case.

Just in case one of the parent-guests who drank too much of this stuff (and p.s. they definitely drank too much), starting knocking things over.

Well I survived but it was pretty embarrassing anyway. And now since the pumpkin is officially rotting (face caved in and lined with mold), I thought the time of year needed some kind of holiday or fairy tale that everybody can get into. So I decided that between Halloween and The New Year should be all about fairies (or maybe the old way, Faeries and with a capital letter to start).

Faeries bringing lights, sweets, gifts, whatever. They come when you need them: fly past your shoulder and cheer you on when you’re walking through freezing wind in the pitch dark on your way to a Maths exam.

The first ones of the season are called Moonlight or Full Moon Faeries (I know, looks like a rip-off of the ol’ parents’ champagne label, but the rest is mine). They come out of candles or hanging fairy lights (of course) and take up different forms: some are fish, some are more like angels and others are just pure white, like beams of moonlight.

Cool, huh? Really does light you up inside this time of year.

The House is having their debate on the health care legislation today.  One GOP member decided to use a baby as a prop.  Usually, I wouldn’t care, but this baby is a genius.  Apparently, the baby, named “Maddy” (I’m assuming this is a celebrity baby based on that awkward name), he knows all about the health care legislation and wanted to talk about it on the House floor as well as play with the microphone,

Perché si diventa scrittori? Non è una domanda semplice, ma di certo è molto molto importante per chi ha scelto questo mestiere. Anne-Laure ama rispondere a questa domanda con una frase dello scrittore e sceneggiatore britannico William Boyd:

The Princess and the Frog

Disney’s upcoming movie The Princess and the Frog has caused much controversy surrounding the main character’s ethnicity.  For the first time ever, Disney features an African-American princess.  Most people would think this is a beginning to a new start, but Disney has received so much criticism from the public concerning the stereotypes of the princess.

Issues/Changes:

• The original title of the movie, The Frog Princess
• The Princess’ original name, Maddy
• The Caucasian prince

Movie Title

The original movie title was The Frog Princess, but some people felt it implied black women are ugly and it just wasn’t an appealing title.

The original name of Princess Tiana was Maddy.  People complained the name was a typical “black” person’s name and took offense to it.

There  are many mixed feelings regarding the prince being Caucasian and not African- American.  Many African-Americans found this offensive and wonder why the prince couldn’t be black.

Although Disney has been blamed for being racists and stereotypical, the majority of the public feels people need to back off and stop making a big deal out of nothing.  People should be more focused around the fact Disney is finally featuring an African American princess.

From a public relations perspective, I feel Disney is handling the issue very well.  Racism is a sticky topic in general and mixing it with a well established movie corporation like Disney can be difficult.  I think it was a good move on behalf of Disney to change some of the underlying problems the public was complaining about, like the title of the movie, the princess’ name, etc.  For Disney, this isn’t the first time it has been blamed for being “racist.”  Disney has received racial accusations from the movies Mulan, Aladin and Pocahontas.  I feel the public needs to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.  We should be celebrating the fact that Disney has incorporated an African-American princess into a movie .

La vita come viene è un romanzo psicologico dove sono presi in considerazione l’amore, la vita e la morte, le grandi questioni, i pannolini e i biberon. Volevo scrivere una sorta di melò, con una certa quantità di dramma e una buona dose di leggerezza.

Durante un incontro in una scuola sul mio libro precedente, una ragazzina mi ha domandato perché mettessi in scena solo eroi maschi. Sono stata presa alla sprovvista e questa osservazione mi ha fatto riflettere. Mi sono chiesta cosa avrei potuto dire sulla femminilità e ne è venuto fuori questo romanzo.

Per la prima volta ho utilizzato direttamente del materiale autobiografico, anche se gli eventi del libro sono deformati rispetto alla mia «vera vita». Avevo voglia di parlare della maternità, della relazione complicata tra due sorelle molto diverse, del legame sconosciuto che si lega tra una madre e un bambino, del lutto e della nascita. Avevo voglia di ancorare questo testo a una realtà rocambolesca, navigare tra il nero del lutto ed i toni pastello della nascita.

Who out there that’s my age has not read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer at least twice? Who hasn’t read the whole series or seen the movie? Last year at school I was totally into it – read all the books twice and watched the film three times. Before that when I was ten or eleven it was all Harry Potter. Read them all at least twice except the fifth which I read four times because it’s my favorite and don’t even ask how often I’ve seen the movies.

I couldn’t get enough of all the cool places and people in these stories, I don’t know why, maybe because they’re familiar and weird at the same time. You could imagine yourself in it, you know, like one of the characters, a witch or a vampire with tons of power. It’s like a “what if you won the lottery” question, what would you do with the money? It’s just a different kind of “what if.”

Adults read these books too I’ve noticed like my friend’s mother who was trying to hide the copy of  Breaking Dawn she was holding under her arm. And don’t even say the words Harry Potter around my mom if you don’t want a two hour literary discussion about it. She went down that path one day with the Twilight film. “Oh Maddy, I thought you liked it because it was about vampires but now I see it has other merits.” I was scared.

I’m looking for more grown up books to read now but it’s not easy. A lot of them look pretty boring or depressing. Many are about things like politics – very boring and depressing – but that could just be my dad’s taste in reading material. Mom likes mysteries and some are okay I guess, but they all have old-lady looking covers (no offense to anybody). There are a lot of teenage-girl books which aren’t bad, a lot talk about boyfriends – having them, losing them, getting new ones. I don’t know what I think about those, actually. I also read a few about teenagers dying either by accident or cancer or by suicide and gotta say, they weren’t boring at all. Just really depressing.

I guess there’ll be other books after a while as good as the Twilight or Harry Potter series. They’ll also be about things that aren’t real but are written to seem real and make us think about lots of “what ifs” which is more interesting than the “what ares” especially since my life is full of so many “what ares” anyway, I don’t really need more. But maybe I’ll be too old for those good books by then and instead be reading about some politician with complicated ideas and arguments and a lot of small footnotes on the page who ends up with a rare form of cancer but then dies anyway in a car accident. Maybe I’ll really like that one day. Or maybe, I won’t.

There is no doubt whatsoever that Kate Gosselin went on the Today Show, crocodile tears and all, to try to pull at the public’s heartstrings during her first of two interviews by telling how bad soon to be ex husband Jon emptied their joint account of $200,000 leaving her unable to pay her children’s bills. Yet in the second interview, she completely contradicts herself by telling how well the kids are provided for and that their money is substantial and secure and that she will be getting her own show.
During her first interview Kate’s body language belies her as she uses a victim like breathy sounding tone telling how John left her with only $1000. She looks down and casts her eyes from side to side as Meredith Viera asks her if this is accurate? Instead of answering as simple “yes’ Kate repeats Meredith’s words “this is accurate”. All of these signals indicate deception. While Jon may have taken money out of their joint account, there is no way he has left her penniless as he wants the public to believe and she knows she isn’t being completely honest. Hence, the signs of lying. She pretends to be crying as she tells of how Jon was making erratic purchases while leaving his children to go hungry.
There are also too many “uhs and um’ms as the the signals of deception increase with lip licking and shoulder raising as she panders and says “ when you have left the mother of your children so she is not able (she stammers here which is a clear indication of lying in this context) to pay for the roof over their head”.
She clearly knows this is not true and her body language shows it. In the first place, she was the one who started all of this by filing for divorce. Secondly she has made millions lecturing and being on television.
Another telling signal of deception is that she keeps talking and goes on and on and explaining. She clearly has an agenda and it is to make Jon look bad. In the second interview when Meredith asks Kate if the kids are protected. She in a strong tone with head uplifted self righteously says that the kids are well protected and provided for and that the money that “she alone” set aside for the kids is secure and substantial.
Then on the next breath, in a chipper voice tells how she will be getting her own talk show without the kids on TLC and is looking forward to that. She then goes on to tell how this show will allow her to further take care of the kids financially.
In her attempts to make Jon out to be the bad guy after he says he doesn’t want his kids on the show anymore Kate self righteously says that she is a contract honoree that when she puts her name on a piece of paper the contract is honored. Her statement is clearly a below the belt dig at Jon that he isn’t honoring their contract by not allowing their kids to do the show any longer.
Then she continues her attempts to let everyone know how good she is and how bad Jon is. When Meredith asks her about her communication with Jon, Kate says “ I have called 20 times a day” and can’t reach him. I find myself making decisions alone because I cannot reach him.” WE then see her shrugging her shoulder, This is further indication that something she is saying is not true. It is most likely the part about her making decisions alone. It may not be because she can’t reach him but because she is a control freak who likes to call the shots and make all the decisions. Maybe she can’t reach him because she calls 20 times a day and Jon doesn’t want to pick up the phone and listen to her abusing him like we say her do on the show.                                                                                                                                                                                            When Kate explained that when she told the kids there wouldn’t be filming there was sobbing and wailing, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Have these little kids grown so narcissistic that they need a camera to follow them around all the time or they can’t function? It was most likely Kate who was doing the sobbing and the wailing because she lost the revenues from the show. These kids are too young to really know what is happening or to care. And as far as the “missed opportunities” and “fun experiences” that the show provided for the kids, now she has the financial wherewithal from all from the millions she made in lectures etc to continue these fun opportunities for the kids.
Kate was asked about Jon ‘s wanting the divorce proceedings halted and wanting to reach out and apologize to her . Meredith point blank asks Kate. “ Can you become friends?” Instead of answering “yes” or” no” , Kate manages to throw in a verbal attack by saying “Obviously he has gone way off the trail “ She then continues to self righteously justifies herself that she will do whatever she can to keep peace whenever she can . Then she acts like a hypocrite and accuses Jon of playing to the media. Well, she has clearly done the same thing during this interview.
What saddened me the most was to see in what great denial Kate was in when she said she has eight of the most healthy and well adjusted children. She clearly needs a reality check. How healthy and well adjusted can any child be who has spent the most formative years of their lives – their first five years- living in a fishbowl under the microscope of a camera lens? How well adjusted is Maddy with all of her temper outbursts? How well adjusted is Colin with hitting his brothers and sisters and bullying them all the time? How healthy and well adjusted can any of these children be when they are feeling the tension and hatred between their parents as they bicker in front of millions to witness?
Ironically enough, now that the camera have stopped filming and Jon has put his foot down on this matter, they may very well have a chance to grow up and become healthy well adjusted children. In addition they will clearly need therapy to help them adjust to a new life without cameras and with a new life without mommy and day living under the same roof.

      On Larry King Live  Jon’s posture and demeanor showed a self confidence we have never seen before. His voice was powerful and  deliberate. He was sure of himself and what he wanted for  his kids. He sparred with Kate’s lawyer and in my view, put that attorney in his place. Jon  finally showed that he is a man and he has finally grown up. It takes a big man to say you are sorry and to show remorse and have accountability for your actions. Jon did just that on the show. He spoke up and addressed questions independently of his own attorney.  

      Nothing pleased me more than when I heard Jon Gosselin say on Larry King Live that he plans to take the kids off the air. Thank goodness ! Those innocent  kids of primary importance and to have them no longer  be part of the media circus is a great thing. Now the rest of their childhoods can perhaps  be spent living a more normal existence without the prying eyes of the public.

     A few months back on the episode where Jon and Kate announced their divorce, as soon as  I heard little Joel tell his father to be quiet,  I knew it was time to get those kids away from the cameras and out of the spotlight immediately. Even though Kate doesn’t want to do it because of her control issues and now overgrown ego, and money concerns,  Jon is acting more like the responsible adult than ever before.

   According to research the first 5 years are the most important years of a child’s life in terms of mental and emotional development. So if there is any emotional scarring with these children, it has already taken place. But the fact that they will no longer be in the public eye can help repair the famage in many ways.

   The equation of  children spending their entire childhoods  in  front of a camera for any length of time is not a good one. Just ask my dear friend and Child Actor Protector and head of A Minor Consideration, Paul Peterson. He knows first  hand what it was like to grow up in a fishbowl and suffered the consequences as a result.  He has counseled numerous child actors who went off the deep end and never came back.   Child actors need a lot of support and solid parents who spend lot of time with them and who are behind them 100 percent. That is why Ron Howard turned out so well and Melissa Gilbert and a handful of others.  But when child actors don’t have solid parent’s behind them like Lindsey Lohan didn’t, they turn out to be like Lindsey Lohan  confused, miserable,  and self destructive.

    Perhaps Jon’s association with Michael Lohan, Lindsey’s father  is a good thing as he learns what NOT to do from Michael’s mistakes. Taking his kids out of the limelight is a GREAT thing and I support it 100 percent.

   While you can’t  always compare children with animals, you can  compare a living creature who was constantly in the glare of the TV camera  and in the  limelight and given all kinds of attention to what has been happening with these 8 kids since birth. I am talking about Knute the cute little polar bear in the Berlin Zoo that people lined up by the thousands  to see.

     All that attention created a narcissism that made him impossible to handle when he got older. According to the zoologist, Knute  turned into a psychopath as he got older. He became so addicted to all the human attention that he howls and crys if he doesn’t have attention, He constantly acts out and is considered a problem bear. That is what happens with a lot of these child actors who were brought up in the limelight. When they grow up they aren’t as cute and don’t get as many jobs, so they aren’t in the limelight azs much. So they self destuct because they are used to that constant attention.

    The vedict is still out as to what will happen with Jons and Kate kids. TAs they continue to grow, they  have to be carefully watched  for  any behavioral problems which have resulted from theiir being under the  constant glare of the camera lens,  just like Knute was in his formative years.

     Only time will tell  what affect all of this filming has had on these kids psychologically. I think they need to be monitored regularly by a child psychologist and watched if any problems arise. The two children who need therapy the most in my opinion is twin  Maddy who was always angry and crying and unhappy due to her lack of attention and obvious tense relationship with Kate. The other one is Colin who hits all the other kids and is a little bully. Kate tends to like him the best and even rewards his bad behavior. Kate being a bully herself obviously identifies with him. But this boy needs to be carefully monitored. Twin Cara needs to be monitored as well. Even though she comes across as stable and responsible, she is still a child. A quiet child who keeps everything inside my really be watched closely. Adan, the one with the glasses whom I find the most adorable seems to have been affected by his parent’s breakup as he seems more detached at to himself as though he is in a word of his own. Even little Leah seems miserable and sad.

    The bottom line is that Jon said that he had to “grow up and be a man” and we certainly saw signs of that on Larry King. The first manly decision he made, was taking those kid off the air. I can’t imagine any court in the US insisting that the children stay on the air. If they say they want to be on the air  and that it is their decision, they are only children and can’t make that decision by themselves. It is Kate’s decision that they remain on the air and Jon’s decision that they don’t. I am clearly on Team Jon as far as the kids are concerned.

If you get to our hostel and ask what is counter-strike you will simply get a slap and an answer ‘Dubara mat puchna..’..lol…Starting from the 4th years to the 1st years I’m sure this game is the most popular one. Without the sounds of this game such as ‘Fire in the hole’, ‘go, go go’ our days are incomplete…

Counter-Strike (commonly abbreviated to CS) is a tactical first-person shooter video game which originated from a Half-Life modification by Minh “Gooseman” Le and Jess “Cliffe” Cliffe. The game has been expanded into a series since its original release, which currently includes Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, Counter-Strike: Source, Counter-Strike: Anthology and Counter-Strike on Xbox. Counter-Strike pits a team of counter-terrorists against a team of terrorists in a series of rounds. Each round is won by either completing the mission objective or eliminating the opposing force. The latest incarnation of the game, Counter-Strike: Source, is based on the Source engine developed for Half-Life 2.

When Counter-Strike was published by Sierra Entertainment/Vivendi Universal Games, it was bundled with Team Fortress Classic, Opposing Force multiplayer, and the Wanted, Redemption and Firearms mods…

A few days back… Me, Nilanjan, Anjani, Maddy, Terror were playing on one night via wireless.. We dint have any team till that day.. We played that whole night & after that nights play everyones eyes were speaking the same, “Yes, this is the team what we longed for”.. That was the when we day we formed our team consisting of “Hector , Dark Shooter, Hercules, Maddy, Terror…” & we gave a name to in “Death-DealerZ” in short “D-2″.. From that day we are practising, to be the best. We practise whole nights, starting from 11 pm to 6 am… What will you call it ??Counter-strike fever …?? Hmm… then we r affected by the cs-virus… & I can bet our team is the best in the 2nd years…Anyone wanna challenge, just come up with your team… Challenge will be excepted…

We play the game via wireless, as we dont have lan connection in our block at hostel..If anyone is interested to know how we connect via wireless the he can contact me for help…
Last but not the least, this post will be incomplete if I don’t mention about a player of our college, he is in 4th year, his original name is Vivek bhaiya but we know him with the name ‘Achilies-the gifted killer’.. He is the best player I have seen in college…

Oggi vi proponiamo un’intervista con Francesca Capelli, giornalista, scrittrice e traduttrice. Francesca ha tradotto per le edizioni San Paolo i romanzi di Anne-Laure Bondoux, nonché il secondo e il terzo volume della triologia di Tata Matilda. Approfittiamo un po’ della sua gentilezza per addentrarci ancor di più nel mondo di Anne-Laure e dei suoi libri.

Per cominciare vorrei parlare delle Lacrime dell’assassino. Un romanzo per ragazzi, ma direi a tratti quasi “feroce”. È stato difficile tradurre un libro così?

In realtà no, perché se è vero che è un romanzo “forte”, non c’è comunque insistenza morbosa sulla scena dell’omicidio, descritto molto brevemente, in maniera quasi asettica. Quando traduco, i problemi che mi pongo sono di ordine stilistico. Per me un libro è come costruire una casa: c’è bisogno di una impalcatura per farla stare in piedi. Nelle traduzioni funziona allo stesso modo: è necessario trovare una coerenza stilistica che regga il tutto. Per mia fortuna, lo stile di Bondoux è terso, affilato come un bisturi. Il mio compito è solo restituirlo ai lettori italiani.

E invece per quanto riguarda il nuovo libro di Bondoux – La vita come viene - una storia difficile anche questa, ma piena di ironia e tenerezza e tutta o quasi al femminile, ti sei posta in maniera differente nel tuo lavoro di traduzione?

La vita come viene sembra un libro più “facile”, ma il lavoro di traduzione è stato più impegnativo. Non perché sia un romanzo al femminile, ma perché è narrato in prima persona dalla voce di Maddy. Mi sono concentrata sulla ricerca della voce giusta, che doveva essere fresca e al tempo stesso toccare corde profonde. Ho cercato di rispettare ancora una volta lo stile mai sciatto di Bondoux: l’immediatezza del racconto in prima persona si ottiene con artifici letterari, con tecniche precise. È un lavoro che nasconde il lavoro: il lettore non deve “sentire” la nostra fatica (di scrittori e traduttori) per arrivare a quel risultato. Nel caso di questo romanzo si trattava di fare apparire spontaneo e colloquiale ciò che spontaneo e colloquiale non è. Troppo facile imitare uno slang giovanilistico! Sarebbe stato ciò che Carver definiva un trucco da quattro soldi. Inoltre, a rendere più complessa la traduzione, c’è la presenza di una voce narrante – quella di Maddy – che si biforca: da un lato abbiamo Maddy che ci racconta in presa diretta le sue disavventure, dall’altro la stessa ragazza che, per gestire il proprio dolore, scrive lettere “impossibili” ai genitori morti. Un registro orale e uno scritto all’interno di uno stesso romanzo. Ho lavorato molto su questo aspetto, naturalmente restando nel binario costruito dall’autrice, e sono contenta che l’editore lo abbia sottolineato graficamente.

Tra Patty e Maddy, le due sorelle protagoniste di La vita come viene, quale preferisci? La seriosa sorellina minore o la stravagante Patty?

Direi che è Maddy a riscuotere la mia simpatia. Certo Maddy, in questo, è avvantaggiata perché è l’io narrante. Può quindi spiegare tutto dal suo punto di vista, Patty invece non ha questa facoltà. Comunque quello che mi sta più simpatico di tutti è il povero Luigi. (Il fidanzato di Patty NdE)

Oltre ad essere una brava traduttrice sei anche giornalista e scrittrice. Quanto metti di queste altre tue due professioni nel lavoro di traduttrice?

È tutto correlato. Come giornalista, verifico ogni cosa in maniera quasi maniacale: informazioni storiche, citazioni. È una deformazione professionale.Per quanto riguarda il lavoro di scrittrice, spero che mi permetta di regalare al libro qualcosa, compensando ciò che inevitabilmente si perde. Una fatica abbondantemente ripagata, perché mi pare che tradurre abbia permesso al mio stile di crescere. Di certo, sento di avere un maggiore controllo sul linguaggio. Tradurre è un esercizio importante, ti obbliga a cercare la parola che restituisce il senso profondo delle cose. Non si tratta solo di lessico, ma anche di suono e ritmo. Mi definisco una traduttrice “ad alta voce”. E tutto quello che imparo da questo lavoro si trasferisce al resto della mia attività.

Torniamo alle Lacrime dell’assassino, un romanzo pluripremiato. Immagino che ti sentirai orgogliosa del lavoro che hai fatto e che abbia sentito le vittorie del Premio Andersen e del Super Premio Andersen anche un po’ tue, o sbaglio?

Alla consegna del Premio Andersen ero la più emozionata! Non dico che lo senta un po’ mio, ma mi prendo il merito di aver fatto conoscere ai lettori italiani il romanzo.

Un’ultima domanda: so che tradurrai anche il prossimo romanzo di Anne-Laure Bondoux, puoi anticiparci qualcosa al riguardo?

È una storia più vicina a Le lacrime dell’assassino, per ambientazione (un paese lontano, questa volta nel Caucaso) e temi. Si tratta ancora una volta di una storia di emozioni forti, che non lasciano indifferenti. Penso che sia questo uno dei principali meriti di Bondoux: non aver paura di parlare di emozioni forti, e saperle comunicare. Penso che i ragazzi abbiano bisogno di ricaricarsi di emozioni, per imparare a sentirle e riconoscerle. Rabbia, paura, amore sono spesso sentimenti confusi, quando li proviamo. E se i ragazzi riuscissero a identificarli e prendere contatto con essi, non avrebbero bisogno di altre esperienze più estreme.

Qaulche giorno fa abbiamo fatto un piccolo giro per il mondo attraverso le copertine del primo romanzo della Bondoux, Le lacrime dell’assassino. Oggi invece faremo unabreve panoramica su La vita come viene il nouvo libro di Anne-Laure, uscito qua in Italia il 15 settembre per le edizioni San Paolo.

Nonostante sia un romanzo davvero recente è già stato pubblicato, oltre che in Italia e, naturalmente in Francia, anche in Olanda, Germania e USA.

È finalmente uscito in libreria La vita come viene, il nuovo romanzo della nostra Anne-Laure! Dopo il successo delle Lacrime dell’assassino, pluripremiato in Francia e in Italia, dove ha vinto il prestigioso Premio Andersen e il Super Premio Andersen, ecco un altro lavoro che appassionerà giovani e meno giovani.

Pubblicato dalle edizioni San Paolo, La vita come viene è la storia di Maddy e Patty, due ragazze così diverse l’una dall’altra da non poter essere altro che sorelle. Quando i loro genitori muoiono in un incidente stradale, la seria e matura Maddy, che ha 15 anni, viene affidata alla sorella maggiore, bravissima a mettere lo smalto sulle unghie, ma con un senso di responsabilità decisamente poco sviluppato!

A pochi giorni da un esame, Maddy scopre che Patty è incinta e non vorrebbe tenere il bambino. Pian piano, mentre le due sorelle trascorrono le vacanze estive in campagna, la vita prende il sopravvento su tutto: Maddy scopre l’amore con un ragazzo olandese, il piccolo Robinson nasce e Patty scappa, lasciando il bambino alle cure della giovane zia…

Narrato in prima persona da Maddy, La vita come viene è un susseguirsi di alti e bassi, di lacrime e risa, insomma è un po’ come la vita! Si sbaglia, si impara, si sbaglia di nuovo, si cresce…

This is what happens to jailed rapists and accomplices – and probably would happen to Nancy, wife of Phillip Garrido. Cons consider rapists the lowest of their kind and enjoy torturing and ‘fixing’ them:

‘Nancy Garrido has been placed in isolation after other inmates threatened to rape and kill her, sources tell CBS News. Like her husband, Phillip, Garrido is charged with 29 felonies stemming from the kidnapping and imprisonment of Jaycee Dugard. Though she’s expected to seek bail, it’s unlikely to be granted, analysts say. Sources say Garrido is “very lonely” in jail, and spends her time reading the bible.

‘“In a prison system there is a certain code of morality,” says one prosecutor, “and this type of crime ranks at the very, very bottom. So it doesn’t shock me either one of them has been threatened.” The Garridos profess to be religious; a CBS correspondent says that, while in prison for rape 30 years ago, Phillip Garrido refused a transfer to a mental hospital so that he could continue his religious studies.’ —Kevin Spak SOURCE: CBS News

AR- Partiamo da Le lacrime dell’assassino, un libro uscito in Francia diversi anni fa e arrivato alla pubblicazione e al succeso in Italia nel 2009. Cosa, a tuo avviso, fa appassionare alla storia di Pablo e Angel sia i lettori che la critica?

ALB- Il successo de Le lacrime dell’assassino mi confonde e non l’ho mai analizzato veramente. E’ accaduto qualcosa di un po’ magico quando lo scrivevo. Credo di essere stata ‘ispirata’: la parola è forse sprecata ma non ne trovo di migliori. Oggi mi sento appena responsabile di aver scritto questo romanzo. Mi ha attraversato come un lampo, l’ho scritto abbastanza velocemente senza pormi delle questioni circa la storia che si è imposta con il suo ritmo, la sua musica e la forza dell’evidenza. Ritengo che tutto questo si avverta nella lettura. Da quello che mi pare di capire, i lettori sono spesso toccati, commossi dalla sofferenza di Angel, l’assassino. Arrivano a mettersi nei suoi panni e a comprendere, dall’interno, i dilanianti dilemmi che agitano il suo cuore. Questo romanzo, per me, è vicino alla fiaba, può essere forse per questa ragione che funziona così bene. Continua qua.
