The weekend was good, really enjoyed spending time with Steven and the rest. Tho Friday I did wake up with a slight bad throat, that has just gotten worse and worse during the last days, now in a barely bearable state. Thank god for painkillers.

Even feeling dead yesterday, I had to get out of bed early and over to the studio, as it was time for me and Magda to do some photo shoots. Went alright tho, even if I felt like no where near pretty enough to have pictures of meself taken, I just had to suck it up and do it. After all, time is closing up on us.

Iirish label FVF are doing the chaitable thing with Marc Ashken’s Movember EP special release and are giving 50% of all label profits directly to the men’s health charity, Movember, with whom the label is working with. See www.movember.com for more information.

The EP consists of three tracks by Marc Ashken and a remix by the Donk Boys. Donk Boys feature with a tech remix of The Second Mouse, perfect for those frenetic dancefloor moments.

RTE PULSE has its hands full with Adam Fogarty constantly activating various projects. Fogarty is about to launch ‘Breakdown Records’. A digital and 12″ vinyl label with international distribution for the 12″ and the obvious digital outlets such as Juno and Beatport for digital releases. The label’s focus will be nu funk and big beat mainly. With a focus on Irish and emerging talent, as well as developing our roster with UK talent – The first release is Johnny Pluse ‘Market Street EP’.  As always the show continues on DAB and online with Adam’s show Breakonomics Sunday 10 – 12 pm on RTE PULSE……

On Friday the 4th of December also on RTE PULSE -  celebrating 4 years of Ceoltronic Radio and 1 year of RTE Pulse being on the airwaves, DJ Will Kinsella will be doing a feature called “a Day with Minus“, based on Minus events at the ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) in October of this year. Will had back stage access to all the artists and has some exclusive interviews on the show. Magda, Ambivalent, HOBO, JPLS, Fabrio Maurizi some of the Minus crew featured on the show…

Clubs opening all over the place at the moment with Dara O Neil AKA DANCEPIG launching a new club in the very heart of BERLIN in Kreuzberg 4^th of December. Mixed by Polished-born, Detroit-raised Magda, fabric 49 is the latest installment of the iconic fabric compilation series.

In contrast to the heavy tribal drums in Radio Slave’s fabric 48 (read my review here), Magda, who is one of the most renowned artists from Richie Hawtin’s Minus label, adopts a more minimalistic approach here. Indeed, with the hybridisation of house and techno over the past couple of years, creating a fresh-sounding minimal techno compilation nowadays is no easy task at all; however on fabric 49, Magda has done a brilliant job. In fact, although there are dark, bleepy and glitchy minimal tracks in the mix, such as Boosty’s Telescope and Farben’s Aufschlag/Abschlag, it is not quite right to define it as minimal techno compilation straightway, as various types of sounds apart from purist minimal have been deployed.

Nem teljesített idén jól a Fabric: természetesen ebben az évben is jelentek meg olyan részek, amik nagy valószínűséggel évekkel később is hallgathatóak lesznek (pl.: John Tejada, Omar-S, Jay Haze), de összességében valami mégis rettentően hiányzott a felhozatalból a tavalyihoz képest. Alighanem amiatt van ez, hogy az idei darabokra felkért művészek kivétel nélkül a saját zenéiket/kiadójukat promótálták, nem pedig a szó klasszikus értelmében vett DJ szettel jelentkeztek. Személy szerint éppen ezért vártam nagyon sokat Magdától: az amerikai „DJane” ugyan soha nem tartozott a kedvenceim közé (a She’s A Dancing Machine-t egyszer sem bírtam végighallgatni), de a számlista annyira jól nézett ki, hogy szinte már előre elkönyveltem a Fabric 49-et az év legjobb Fabric mixének – a végén viszont sajnos kiderült, hogy pont az ellenkezőjéről van szó.

Pedig a számlista még utólag is büntet: harminc körüli felvétel van tizenöt részre bontva, bootlegek formájában. Gaiser minimal esztétikája találkozik Circlesquare sötét idm-jével, a Groupshow kosmische musikja Magdával flörtöl, de van még Yello, Farben, Luciano, Jimmy Edgar és szólóban jelentkező Jan Jelinek is, vagyis a Fabric 49-nek egyáltalán nem kéne rossznak lennie, közben meg valahogy mégis nagyon az. Magda rettentő balszerencsésen, minden felvételnek pont a karakterét vette el azzal, hogy összepárosította, vagy hármasokba rendezte őket, így az egész szett nem más, mint hetven perc dögunalmas minimal csörömpölés M_nus-stílusban. Helyenként hallani pár hangot, amik hasonlítanak a Goblinra, Cristian Vogelre, Robert Babiczra, Heartthrobra, vagy a kettővel előbbi mondatban említett művészek valamelyikére, de egyszer sem ők szólnak ténylegesen. Az összes felvétel csak árnyéka önmagának, lélek nélkül vándorló üres techno tömbök, így a végére nem csoda, ha mi is pont ugyanilyennek érezzük magukat. Magda munkamódszere másodszorra sem tudott megragadni engem, sokkal többet vártam a mixtől. Így viszont nem marad más, mint úgy tenni, mintha 2009 sosem történt volna meg a Fabric-sorozatban, és reménykedni Martynban, meg majd a többi szelektorban jövőre.

Wielka potrzebe by zrobic sesje fashion, oderwana od fot testowych modelek, polaczona z poszukiwaniami nowych rozwiazan technicznych, wlaczeniem w to aktualnych trendow modowych i czegos niepokornego…Czegos co sprawi, ze foty te nie beda oczywiste i jednoznaczne. Chyba wlasnie tego szukam ogladajac wytwory innych. Fotografia, malarstwo, rysunek, pokaz mody, architektura, uwor muzyczny, film – musi mnie zaintrygowac, moze nawet zaniepokoic. Niekoniecznie od razu zlapac za morde i sparalizowac na kilka godzin ( chociaz przyzynam, ze ten stan ubezwlasnowolnienia przez sztuke barrrdzo lubie) ale chociaz zatrzymac na kilka sekund, wywolac jakas emocje, cos przypomniec , spowodowac bieg skojarzen albo odwrotnie – nie kojarzyc sie absolutnie z niczym znanym i przez to zaciekawic jeszcze bardziej.

Poniewaz kazda porzadna sesja fashion nie istnieje bez stylizacji to na poczatek pojechalam do salonu Max Mary, szukac czegos intrygujacego. Nie jest latwo w Szczecinie z niekonwencjonalna moda, do tego markowa. Zgodnie z zasada klient nasz pan – wlasciciele butikow z “wyzszej polki” wybieraja towar, ktory sie sprzeda a wiadomo, ze w Polsce latwiej sprzadac bezpieczny zakiet czy prosty plaszcz niz lekko awangardowy wybryk z wybiegow. Na szczescie cuda sie czasem zdarzaja ( nawet w Szczecinie) i po wejsciu do sklepu od razu wpada mi w oko sztuczne futro we wzor pepitkowy,  zywcem wyjety z jesienno/zimowego pokazu McQuenna. Biore bez zastanowienia. Podobnie jak piekna brosze z kamieni w ksztalcie skarabeusza. Lowiac ubrania i dodatki caly czas glowkuje co sie z tego ostatecznie urodzi bo domknietej wizji na sesje nadal brak. Do projektu zapraszam dwie moje modelki z new face: brunetke Marti i blondynke Magde. Obie maja dlugie wlosy, postanawiam zrobic jedna z moich ulubionych sesyjnych fryzur  – gladka gora a obszar od poziomu ucha skrecony na drobna lokowke a nastepnie rozczesany i stapirowany. Nowoczesne ale jednoczenie bardzo malarskie. Makijaze rowniez robie sama, bez konkretnego wzoru. Skora prawie bez podkladu, wzmocnione oko, blade usta. I jeszcze niezwykle wazny element – dlugie pazury. Naklejam je z pietyzmem modelkom,  smiejac sie w siebie w duchu, ze oto pogromczyni tipsow sama je funduje swoim dziewczynom .

Za oknem wichura wiec wiadomo, ze sesja odbedzie sie w studio. Poniewaz po dopasowaniu stylizacji do modelek robi sie animalistyczny glam – wybieram neutralne biale tlo i rownie neutralnego spota. Dopiero w trakcie zdjec dostawiamy z boku jeszcze jedna lampe z czerwonym filtrem a jeszcze chwile pozniej zaczynam ekwibrilistyczne zmagania z ulubionymi “przeszkadzajkami” – tiulem i szklanymi kulami. Przez tiul fotografowalam juz nie raz, zarowno testy jak i komercje i zawsze udawalo sie uchwycic cos niespodziewanego. Podobnie z kula. Obie materie zalamuja przestrzen. Tiul zmiekcza, wprowadza jakby poruszenie obrazu, rozedrganie. Kula przeksztalca krzywizny a do tego potrafi przechwycic niewidoczne “golym” obiektywem bliki swietlne. Obie materie bywaja bardzo oporne we wspolpracy ( przydaloby sie zwykle miec wiecej niz dwie rece) a do tego sa nieprzywidywalne w efekcie koncowym i  nie lubia sie z autofocusem. Ale jak juz zaskocza z cala reszta to naprawde potrafia zadziwic. No i wprowadzic owo ‘zanieczyszczenie” odbioru, do jakiego jest przyzwyczajone oko i rozum:) Nic wiec dziwnego, ze potem mi pisza na digarcie, ze:

jak można aż tak zaniżyć swój wypracowany wysoki poziom? nie rozumiem, słabo mi

hmm co zjeść żeby to zrozumieć ?

itp.itd.  czyli dobrze jest:)  Jak to mi juz kiedys ktos madry powiedzial – ciesz sie, ze pisza. gorzej jakby nie pisali wogole. Wiec sie ciesze. A przede wszystkim z tego, ze zrobilam ta sesje, ze po raz kolejny w tym samym czasie udalo sie polaczyc sily modelek ze zmaganiami fotograficzno-stylizacyjnymi i cala ta studyjna materia. Ze powstalo cos nowego. Moze to dziecinne i naiwne ale za kazdym razem jak zaczynam sie zmagac z jakims pomyslem, potrzeba zrobienia kolejnej sesji to mam obawe, ze tym razem niewypali, ze skonczy mi sie zapal, zabraknie inspiracji, potrzeby walki i ciaglych zmagan. Ze efekt w zadnym procencie mnie nie zadowoli, ze tylko wymecze modelki, strace kolejny dzien weekendowy, w ktory przeciez mozna by bylo isc na spacer albo do kina, zajac sie dzieckiem albo soba… Za kazdym razem mam taki chor grecki w glowie ( zaczatki schizofrenii?) a potem …wpadam w wir pracy i nie liczy sie juz nic wiecej poza sesja. Po sesji wybor zdjec i obrobka, ktora zwykle zajmuje mi jedna noc ( ciekawe, ze tak wiele osob mi zarzuca nadmiar fotoszopa i bog wie jakiej ingerencji w foty a ja poza retuszem skory robie naprawde niewiele) a zaraz potem jest 19ty pazdziernika czyli  tydzien gruntownych badan lekarskich, po ktorych dowiaduje sie, ze mam anemie, niedokrwistosc, rozchwiana gospodarke hormonalna, czestoskurczowe serce i oczywiscie jestem przemeczona.

No coz…Glupia nie jestem i mimo, ze mit artysty, tworzacego w morzu bolesci fizycznych i psychicznych obcy mi nie jest ( i nawet bywa kuszacy) to mimo wszystko za bardzo lubie zycie aby sobie robic zbyt duze kuku. Postanowilam jako tako sluchac sie lekarzy, lykam witaminki  i tableteczki, duzo spaceruje a nawet zaczelam jadac tresciwe sniadania ( od dluzszego czasu moje sniadanie skladalo sie wylacznie z kawy). Wszak wiek chrystusowy dobiega mi pomalu do konca, magiczne 33 zmieni sie juz za niecale dwa miesiace w 34 – czy rownie  magiczne tego nie wiem ale postaram sie zyc i tworzyc nadal, czego serdecznie szanownemu panstwu rowniez zycze:)

GRRRR I was going to run tonight but I got called into f-ing work at the last min and now I’m super cranky and I don’t wanna play.  I’m getting up in the morning and going then instead (which sucks as I was planning on doing both before.. pout… at least I went biking earlier).

So yesterday I found out there’s only 6 weeks:O SIX EFFING WEEKS! left of this semester!
6 weeks left of my studies at university of Wolverhampton! 6 weeks till we go home for Christmas.
6 BLOODY WEEKS!

Can you say stressed? I can. Time has ran away from me, I was convinced I had so much time for everything, now I’m not so sure anymore..
I am being a good student on a sunday, sat at the library with Magda, she’s working on her presentation, i’m meant to be doing work on my essay, that’s due next monday. Hopefully by tonight, the library closes around 9, so by then I hope to be done with the essay, ready to do my presentation preparations tomorrow, lectures and presentation on tuesday, then work on the next essay on wed, hopefully try and finish it by thursday. Revise for my 1960s test friday, saturday and sunday. and also have time to read another book for Contemporary literature.
So hopefully by the end of next week I have a lot of the other modules out of the way and can actually focus a lot of my attention on the big assessment this year. Dissertation! I guess it is equalent with a bachelor assessment back in Norway.

Library will be my home, only with breaks for food and going to the gym!
Cause even though I can feel the pressure, I’m not gonna stop going to the gym, preferably monday mornings, tuesday afternoon and hopefully at least one more day. Maybe Thursday night for Kick Boxing or friday mornings, just a general session.

anyway’s back to work, I don’t wanna end up feeling like this again:
Yes it’s from this summer, when I was freaking out with nerves about my essay that i’d already failed once.

The thought that keep me going now is 6 weeks till there won’t be anymore essays and presentations or tests or exams.. 6 weeks till I have to go looking for a job, but don’t have to worry about uni.

6 more weeks!

p.s. nope won’t be done tonight.. cause i’m gonna leave in 30min, i’m so hungry:P
