Psychics who claim to be able to see a person’s aura would tell you that magenta is the colour of innovation and creativity. They’d be able to tell that just by listening to this release as well. Magenta is already recognised as a serious up and comer, and the tracks on Entity do nothing to dispel his potential supremacy. Anyone trying to psychically connect with this EP should be warned though, as the digital spirituality that they witness may corrupt their mind and transmute their perspective of reality.

We begin with the title track hovering to expose a futuristic skyline, and a sampled voice warning us: ‘What if you awoke with no memory? What if the world you knew was gone? What if you discovered you were not alone?’ Before you have a chance to contemplate the message, Magenta waylays you with frantic mind altering beats and psychic disturbance. ‘Transformed’ has already captivated praise as a highlight on the recent Betamorphosis Volume Three compilation, and here it is the overlord breathing even more strength into its silicon counterparts: ‘Rancid’ is digitally ethereal, and evokes haste as well as the slow process of anthropomorphic decay. Then ‘Condemned’ completes the judgement with a cybernetic consciousness that overwhelms the organic with the precision of artificial intelligence. Finally, the pulsating bass of ‘The Warriors’ is audible proof that the EP’s opening prophecy has come true, and the world now only exists in Magenta’s twisted digital construction.

The sinister electronic undertones do give this EP an ambience of calculated destruction, but it is also apparent that this is merely the manifestation of potent skills testing their powers. Where some beats are aggressive, others are playful and this gives Entity a dissident symmetry. This is mirrored in Magenta’s enigmatic personal touches, as well as the duelling interior and exterior worlds deployed in the tracks. By the end you may in fact wonder about your own reality. I wouldn’t have been at all surprised if a man in a long black leather jacket had turned up to offer me the choice between a blue pill and a red pill. My advice would be to take both and have an awesome time being absorbed by the sounds of Betamorph’s most unreal new talent.

We call ourselves creeptones. We have been waiting for some time now to play and perform live. That time is still a ways away. Working on a large collection of songs. Will perform a long run of local summer shows. Will be exciting to play shows after a band has rehearsed and essentially, been a band already for two years. All the songs will be free. The eventual album with artwork by Nico Lucido (above and below) will be substantially cheap, but hopefully not cheaply made (a joke?) : ) Enough of this, see you soon.

This poster is my all hand screenprinted tour poster for some super bands (check them out and see if I’m lying.)

What you see here is a 4-color poster with magenta, sunny orange and black inks. Size: 16w x 22h inches. Edition of 145, though I have only 30 for sale and the rest were sold on tour with the band. Paper: acid-free & archival Cougar 100 lb White, cover weight.

What providence! The 200th photo, on what happens to be my birthday, and which happens to be one of my favorite recent shots. I knew that I was behind, and so there would be no way of knowing if the 200th shot, when it finally got uploaded would be significant or not. But fate, has not let me down.

I am going to tell you a secret word. Once I tell you, continue to read the blog and every time you read it I want you to scream. I don’t care if you are around people or in the library. When you hear it scream!

The secret word is…Moped.

Apparently if you attend any home basketball games or wrestling matches, then you have a change to win an orange MOPED! AHHHHHHH! If you didn’t scream then I will say this..LAME.

I don’t know about you but I have always wanted one of these bad boys. Just imagine being about to cruise around the streets in a…..moped. Ahhhh. (Don’t be lame) Anyway, this is a great incentive to go cheer on your Cowboys and Cowgirls. You shouldn’t need any incentive to go cheer them on, but I am not here to judge. Go win a…MOPED!!!!! This is a video of a soccer player from New Mexico. She is very mean. I am proud to say she is not on the OSU girls soccer team. Who I am proud to say made it to the second round of the NCAA playoffs. Great job girls.

The much hyped and anticipated BlackBerry Bold 9700 is now available for purchase from T-Mobile USA, albeit with the wrong device shown on the site. It’s been a long wait, but we have finally made it. Ringing up at $199.99 on contract (even more) and $449.99 out right (even more plus) this is the in the running to be the most coveted device of 2009. Both purchase options give you the choice of splitting the price into monthly payments which will undoubtedly ease the burden on subscribers pockets. Both require an initial down payment will an additional 3 monthly payments on contract pricing, and a stretch of 20 payments on prepay.  I foresee shortages on this one, so strike while the berry is new.

Update: T-Mobile has updated their website to reflect the proper image of the Bold 9700.

Here are some images from a wedding we were involved in last fall on Martha’s Vineyard.  This bride donated to the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank.

The flowers were a saturated combination of magenta, garnet red and burnt orange.  We loved how the florist created an entire table covered in hydrangea to set our favors on.  Quite the wow factor.

The cake was a simple four-tired round design with fresh orange and magenta mokara orchids.  The pastry chef also adorned each tier with chocolate twigs.

To help guests get home at the end of the evening, hundreds of luminaria bags were placed along pathways.

A classic New England wedding decor element, round paper lanterns were strung throughout a Sperry tent.

La provincia di Milano realizza la nuova sede del liceo Quasimodo: un intervento da 4.5 milioni di Euro per il territorio del magentino

Progettazione all’avanguardia: edilizia eco-compatibile, fonti rinnovabili e efficienza energetica. In prospettiva un unico plesso.

Milano, 13 novembre 2009

“Il Liceo Classico Quasimodo a Magenta è sicuramente un polo di eccellenza del territorio, con un trend di iscrizioni costantemente in crescita. Proprio per questo fattore la Provincia di Milano ha deciso di programmare la costruzione di un nuovo polo scolastico per accogliere l’intera autonomia. Attualmente, infatti, il liceo è dislocato in due sedi separate. La  principale, in via Volta, consiste in un edificio di proprietà comunale in uso alla Provincia di Milano. La seconda sede è collocata in un edificio prefabbricato di 12 aule in via Colombo anch’esso di proprietà comunale.

Per dare corso all’operazione, la Provincia di Milano ha individuato nell’area di sua proprietà, adiacente al Centro Scolastico “Bramante” di via Trieste, il luogo idoneo per realizzare la  nuova costruzione da adibire a sezione distaccata del Liceo Quasimodo. Il progetto, approvato dalla Provincia quest’anno prevede la realizzazione di 19 classi, 5 laboratori (1 di chimica/biologia, 1 di fisica, 2 di informatica, 1 di scienze), segreteria, sala riunioni e palestra. L’intero complesso sarà interamente finanziato dalla Provincia per un importo di 4.500.000 euro.

L’edificio è stato progettato con un’alta attenzione rivolta alla sostenibilità ambientale, ottenuta attraverso l’uso di materiali eco-compatibili, la completa eliminazione dei ponti termici nel rivestimento murario al fine di eliminare le dispersioni termiche e ottimizzarne l’efficienza energetica. Inoltre, l’immobile sarà attrezzato con dispositivi per la produzione di energia da fonti rinnovabili (pannelli fotovoltaici) e la produzione di acqua calda con pannelli solari.

Per il futuro, la Provincia ha in programma un ulteriore sviluppo delle strutture da destinare al Liceo Quasimodo al fine di riunire un unico centro scolastico tutte le classi e quindi eliminare il disagio dovuto alla presenza di più plessi tra loro distanti.

Il progetto ha già ottenuto il parere favorevole dal Comando dei Vigili del Fuoco in e dalla locale A.S.L. Con l’approvazione del Consiglio Comunale di giovedì 5 novembre l’intervento potrà essere appaltato.

“The Coffee Date”

Ever been “out for coffee”? Its the date that isn’t. You can go, and if things don’t work out you can say that you just went as friends. Watching people in coffee shops is fascinating. But that could be because I’m too nosey for my own good.

I like to invent stories about the interactions I see around me. This woman clearly has a point of view. It is like she is saying “Well, its like I told you…” with her body language.

I wonder, at the end of this coffee date, will the couple find an “interest” or just a friend?

Two more scarves added to Etsy this weekend… Crushed Berries and Raspberry Parade.

Crushed Berries is a one of a kind scarf is perfect for fall or winter when the wicked wind is blowing. The yarn is a hand-spun thick-thin yarn with colors varying from creamy pink to deep merlot. The hand-spun super soft merino was knit it a loose seed stitch. It measures 6-inches wide and 40-inches long.

Start your own parade with Raspberry Parade a one of a kind scarf. It was knit with bulky 100% wool yarn and highlighted on each end with a fun eyelash yarn. The scarf measures 6-inches wide and 46-inches long.

Before Cotton.Ink launched their Fall Winter 2009 collections, I can always contain myself from buying their one of a kind, versatile, yet affordable shawls. I always drooled over their catalogue, but I don’t need another addiction, I know my wallet can handle only so much shopping. But my defense can only last so long when I lay my eyes on this new colour on their blog:

Magenta got me (yes, am a purple sucker). Before I knew, I had filled their order form, treating myself a Krey Magenta and a Classic Berry (just in case my Magenta gets lonely). Cottonink responded my email quite fast, considering how overwhelmed they were at that time (their new collection got insane market response!). I transfered my payment, emailed them again to confirm it, and.. Voila, they arrived today!

I love love love them! The colours are a bit off from their blog, but still very pretty. The texture is thin and stretchy, like T-shirts, so I gotta be careful in washing and storing them. I’ve been playing with them up until I decided to write this post.  They’re so fun to play with, how you can fashion them is endless, especially the Krey. Am thinking about getting another one (or two? three?) of this pretty little things. I might try fringe? acid? In Neon Grass maybe? Or Sand? Aaarrggh, I smell another addiction comin my way.. = =”

Boffalora Ticino - E’ accusato di omicidio colposo, omissione di soccorso e fuga G. A., il ragazzo di neanche 20 anni che venerdì nel tardo pomeriggio ha travolto e ucciso Gianluigi Cattaneo, pensionato agricoltore che proprio domani, domenica 8 novembre, avrebbe compiuto 76 anni. Alle 17.30 di venerdì il giovane, nato a Rho e residente a Vanzago, era uscito dallo stabilimento della zona industriale boffalorese dove lavora come magazziniere stagionale. Un orario inconsueto, perchè solo il venerdì l’orario di uscita è alle 17.30, gli altri giorni invece i dipendenti escono un’ora dopo.

Arrivato in via San Defendente (diretto verso via Roma) ha urtato violentemente l’agricoltore boffalorese che, dopo avere raccolto una borsata di cachi nella cascina di un amico, si stava recando a casa, in via Garibaldi al 37. A quel punto il giovane ha perso la testa. Dice di non essersi accorto di nulla, di avere girovagato per alcuni minuti e di avere raggiunto alcuni amici a Magenta. Ha avvisato i genitori e, insieme, sono arrivati al comando della Polizia locale di Boffalora verso le 21.30 dove si è costituito.

La Polizia locale, guidata dal comandante Francesco Pinaura, ha inoltrato in Procura a Milano la notizia di reato. Sul posto gli agenti avevano raccolto elementi importanti che avrebbero consentito l’identificazione del giovane nel giro di qualche giorno. Oltre ad una testimonianza diretta erano in possesso anche di un frammento del paraurti anteriore destro e della copertura del portapacchi anteriore destro della Fiat Panda gialla guidata dal giovane di Vanzago. Un ragazzo, l’investitore, definito “di buona famiglia, studente universitario”.

Per lui, Mariuccia, la moglie di Luigi Cattaneo, ha parole di perdono: “E’ giovane, forse non sa quello che ha fatto. La cosa che più mi sconvolge sta nel fatto che non si sia fermato. Arrivato al semaforo ha continuato per la sua strada, mentre mio marito era a terra. Nessuno me lo riporterà indietro mio marito”. Nel mese di maggio Mariuccia e Luigi avevano festeggiato il 50esimo anniversario di nozze. Una famiglia felice quella di Luigi Cattaneo. Imprenditore agricolo aveva continuato a lavorare la terra anche da pensionato. Lascia due figli, Fiorenzo e Daniela e tre nipotini di 7, 12 e 15 anni. Uno di loro, saputa la tragedia, ha detto al padre Fiorenzo: “Papà, e adesso con chi vedo l’Inter?”.

The forming of the flower buds.

A lot of people ask, “Brock, Where do you like to get your grub on in the Thrill?” Well my gentle giants here are three great places to fill that tummy of yours while being light on your wallets or your boyfriends wallet.

1. McAlister’s Deli- This place is fantastic. They have a deal that is pick any two for less than $7. You can pick up a nice baked potatoe, half a sandwich or a nice cup of soup. I prefer the club sandwich and the bacon spud. Don’t forget the sweet tea!

2. Coney Island- This place has a great burgers and great coneys Go grab a quick bite while your on the strip. After everything else on the strip, a hamburger always sounds delicious. I couldn’t find any pictures for this so you will just have to imagine it. Also if you don’t believe me, go check out this site. They will back me up.

3. El Vaquero- A lot of people like Mexican food. I am one of these people. El Vaq is located on Highway 51 and has great Mexican food. The price isn’t too bad either. Make sure, if you’re 21, to grab one of their nice cold brew-ha-has or a frozen margarita.

“Fantasy”

One of my favourite things about painting flowers is their shapes. Soft, rounded edges. Dips and curves. The way the light changes the colour of a petal.  Sometimes I get so caught up in the feeling of my brush waltzing on the canvas that I stray away from the original shape, colour, size , whatever that a flower may have and wander off on my own flights of fancy.

If you’re wondering – this painting is based on a yellow wildflower called “Cinquefoil”.

Today’s inspiration board is a brilliant splash of color to start the week.  To those who shy away from overly feminine palettes, come again next week… this board is unapologetically girly in fuschia & raspberry.  But to those who embrace their romantic side (girls after my own heart!) take a moment to revel in the sheer beauty using shades of pink in ruffly lanterns, juicy cocktails, & dance-the-night-away heels.  An obvious choice for an all-girls birthday party or bridal shower, try incorporating this palette in a more unexpected setting: a high-style dinner party, weekend brunch, or statement-making wedding reception… with a very accommodating groom, that is!

“Frost”

These tulips fascinated me. When we were living in Seattle, WA tulips were an early spring flower and you could get armloads of them at the Pike Place Market for $15. Steve brought these ones home for me one day and I was captivated because they were purple. Not quite the soft purple they are here in the painting but a deep dark violet. They also were had the pretty frilly edges – so I had to photograph them and save them for another day – almost two years later.

It is a break in the colours I’ve been using but I couldn’t resist the cool colours.

MaJenta Designs is the brainchild of Jennifer whose fascination with Asian papers recently led her to the 1,000 sales milestone on Etsy! She uses Chiyogami (literally “1,000 generation paper”) and Washi (rice paper) – both delicate, traditionally hand-made papers that have intricate and vibrant designs similar to fabric used on kimonos. Her aesthetic complements what she, as a second-generation Chinese American, calls her “hybrid life” by being both traditional and contemporary.

Using these papers for glass pendants? That’s a no brainer. Look how the glass both frames and accentuates the rich colors. Jennifer has an eye for how to place each piece for maximum effect.

Less predictably, Jennifer takes something functional and allows you to add beauty and style. Start with a design that you like. Then decide what you’d like her to add: Bottle opener? Key Chain? Pocket Mirror? Oh yeah, she can do that!

She has a fun line of portable purse hooks. So easy to use: just unfold, set on the table top and hang your bag from the hook…no more purse on the floor or worrying about it being taken from the back of your chair. (You know that person on your holiday list who has everything? I bet she doesn’t have one of these!)

She also makes gift tins in various shapes and sizes. How great would it be to give one of her items in a coordinating tin? Want even more fun? Keep them for yourself! Mints, buttons, coins…Violet is quite sure you’ll make it work.

Despite being a full time graduate student with a thriving Etsy shop, Jennifer found time to sit down and share her story with us. Read on!

Curator V: How long have you been on Etsy? How did you decide to set up shop there?

I started almost 2 years ago, September 2007, to be exact. I’ve always enjoyed making art, but first got interested in selling my handcrafted creations when I visited a town fair and saw all the local craft artists and their booths – it really inspired me to want to sell my own goods too. Oddly enough though, I didnt try to start selling at fairs just yet, but rather wanted to try selling on-line first. I stumbled upon Etsy and thought it’d be an exciting venue to try out, and the rest is history

Curator V: You’re a full time graduate student; what are you studying? How do you find time to keep your shop so well stocked?

I’m working towards a PhD in Counseling Psychology; its really busy lifestyle – I’m taking 5 classes, interning 20 hours a week, and working on a dissertation, so each day is very hectic – but I definitely work to make time for my business as it is nice to have a creative outlet away from my studies – in my profession, we’re always telling our clients the importance of self-care, so I feel it’s good to make time to do other things I enjoy too.

Curator V: I love that your work is symbolic of the hybrid nature of life that so many people can relate to. Did you set out to create in that way or did your designs naturally evolve?

My items definitely have evolved over time, as I have so many creative interests and enjoy so many mediums, such as beadwork and stained glass, but the items I enjoy creating the most are have symbolic meaning- like the cranes that symbolize eternal devotion and the koi’s symbolism of perseverance and good fortune, because I love things that tell a story behind them. Sometimes I learn things from my customers too – like one person wanted to send one of my plum blossom pendants to a friend who was undergoing major surgery, and she requested I send a note with it, and I thought it was a beautiful, so i’ve added it to the listing

Curator V: Where do you find the beautiful papers that you use in your designs?

I find the papers from all over, various paper stores locally and internationally – i actually first got started collecting the paper when I visited Japan and found a beautiful assorted set, and at that time I thought it was just fancy origami paper!

Curator V: Can you describe your work space to us? (If you have a picture, feel free to include it!)

Haha, alas, I live in a small apartment in Boston so there isnt that much workspace that is solely devoted to my craft-making. I generally work in my living room, on a table that triples as my dining table as well as my study space too! Here is a photo that someone took of me crafting amongst my textbooks.

Curator V: Congrats on reaching 1,000 sales! What are your next goals?

Thanks! I definitely want to keep building my business, so I’m always trying to think up new products to carry, new designs to use, and new venues to sell my work. I’m looking forwards to the holiday shows coming up this season, plus I’ll be helping to create a handmade gift boutique for the holiday season in downtown Boston with some other talented Boston-area artisans of the group Boston Handmade this will be my first time I’ll have so much involvement in an art gallery/boutique so I’m looking forward to getting involved in this venture and hoping it will be successful!
