Riboflavin, magnesium, and feverfew & coenzyme Q10 has been found to reduce the recurrence rate

Riboflavin, magnesium, and feverfew & coenzyme Q10 has been found to reduce the recurrence rate of migraines. Riboflavin was originally considered for migraine prevention because researchers observed that migraine sufferers tend to have impaired energy production in brain cells, which riboflavin has the potential to enhance as it is a component of a key substance involved in the body’s energy production.

Another nutrient important for producing energy (magnesium) has already been shown to reduce migraine recurrence. In earlier studies with riboflavin, a very high dose was chosen, presumably to give the vitamin the best chance of working. While riboflavin does not appear to cause any significant adverse effects even at high doses, it is possible that taking large amounts of any single nutrient might cause subtle imbalances in body chemistry. For that reason, if lower doses are equally effective, they are preferable to higher amounts.

Also called Riboflavin, Vitamin B2 is a yellow, water-soluble organic compound essential for our health and well being. Vitamin B2 functions as part of metabolic systems concerned with the oxidation of carbohydrates and amino acids, the constituents of proteins.

Its deficiency results in trembling, dizziness, poor concentration and memory, blood-shot, red, tired or gritty eyes.

Deficiency of riboflavin is also characterized by variable symptoms that may include reddening of the lips with cracks at the corners of the mouth (cheilosis); inflammation of the tongue (glossitis); ocular disturbances, such as vascularization of the eyeball with eyestrain and abnormal intolerance of light; and a greasy, scaly inflammation of the skin. Some disagreement persists as to the characteristic syndrome of riboflavin deficiency in humans because it tends to be associated with a deficiency of other vitamins, notably niacin.

Magnesium concentration has an effect on serotonin receptors, nitric oxide synthesis and release, NMDA receptors, and a variety of other migraine related receptors and neurotransmitters.

A substantial proportion of migraine patients probably have low IMg++. For those patients with low magnesium levels, acute migraine pain can likely be stopped with a single intravenous magnesium treatment. Magnesium deficiency could be involved in both the vascular and neurological aspects (e.g., migraine aura, pain, nausea, etc.) of the development of migraine.

Severe lack of magnesium in the brain has been known to cause everything from apathy to psychosis in psychiatric conditions and can even cause seizures. Since migraine has been compared to a mini-seizure in the brain..the magnesium migraine connection makes sense.

Low ionized magnesium levels are caused by poor absorption, a magnesium-deficient diet and, perhaps most importantly, from excessive magnesium loss in urine. Stress contributes to this magnesium loss and, ironically, low magnesium status increases vulnerability to stress. Certain illnesses such as diabetes predispose to magnesium loss through urine.

The following medications can also result in more magnesium leaving the body through the kidneys: diuretics, aminoglycosides, cisplatin, digoxin, cyclosporin, and amphotericin B.

The U.S. RDA for magnesium is 350 mg/day for men and 280 mg/day for women. The richest sources of this mineral are whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, cocoa and green leafy vegetables.

Unfortunately up to 85% of all migraineurs are magnesium deficient. The levels of magnesium in the blood do not correlate to that in the fluid of the brain, so if you ask your doctor to check your levels, don’t be surprised if he or she tries to put you off a bit.

Feverfew, also called bachelor’s button, is a popular folk remedy for headache. This herb is a member of the daisy family, and many people grow the plant themselves and then harvest the leaves. For a long time feverfew was thought to reduce fever, hence the name! Feverfew is an anti-inflamitory, and so works much like ibuprofen. It is also believed that the herb may inhibit chemicals that cause the blood vessels in your head to spasm & reduce migraines.

An article in the April, 2002, issue of the Journal of the International Headache Society, Cephalalgia, reports very encouraging results from an open label trial of coenzyme Q10 as a Migraine preventive. The introduction to the article says: “At present there are very few efficacious migraine preventives and fewer without significant side-effects. In medicine there has been a trend towards the development of natural therapies that can be safely taken by all who suffer with a disease regardless of age and past medical history. Migraine in particular is a disorder of young people and this patient population is very resistant to taking any form of medication, especially when it needs to be used on a daily basis. Migraine can be a disabling disorder and migraine preventives have been shown to not only reduce headache frequency, intensity and duration but also improve quality of life. Coenzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring substance and essential element of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. It has been the most extensively studied agent for the treatment of mitochondrial disorders and has been shown to have almost no identifiable side-effects in humans. There has been a recent interest in the role that mitochondria may play in migraine pathogenesis … The objective of this investigation is to assess the efficacy of coenzyme Q10 as a preventive treatment for migraine.”

Magnesium is a mineral, a critical mineral that is stored in our bones, which provides magnesium for our nerves, muscles and cells that enable us to relax. It was once thought that calcium was the main ingredient for optimal bone health, now it is proven that magnesium is of equal importance. For females during adolescence, low intakes of calcium and magnesium can lead to osteoporosis. Boys and girls require magnesium for bone health, hormone balance and energy. It is good for heart health as well a help relief with Premenstrual Syndrome and Tension.

This magnesium name derives from the Greek taken from the name of a region in Thessaly called Magnesia. Joseph Black from England called magnesium as a kind of element in 1755. Sir Humphry Davy could produce magnesium metal by electrolysis in the year 1808 rather than a mixture of magnesia and HgO.
Magnesium is the chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Mg and atomic number 12 and atomic weight 24.31. Abundance of magnesium in the Earth’s crust was ranked eighth in the percentage of 2%. Alkaline earth metals are used as material for making aluminum-magnesium mixture, which is usually called magnalium.
Pure magnesium does not exist in nature as an element, but in the form of a compound in the mineral. For example magnesium carbonate in the form of compounds contained in mineral magnesit and dolomite (MgCO3.CaCO3). Sea water contains 0.13% magnesium, and is a source of magnesium, which is not limited.

2.1.1 The main properties
Magnesium is a strong metal, silvery white, light (one third lighter than aluminum) and will be dull if left in the air. In the form of powder, this metal is very reactive and can burn with a white flame when the air is humid. When burned magnesium metal ribbon and soaked in water, it will continue burning until the ribbon magnesium was out. Magnesium, when burned in air, producing a bright white light. This is used in the early days of photography as a source of lighting (flash powder). Mass meeting of magnesium is 1.738 gram/cm3. Relativitation atomic mass is 24, and atomic number 12. Magnesium melts at a temperature of 111 ° C.

the magnesium

2.1.2 Purpose
Magnesium, particularly magnesium oxide is used as a refractory material to produce steel, glass, and cement. In the form of metal, the main purpose of this element is added as an ingredient in aluminum metal. Aluminum-magnesium metal is typically used in the manufacture of beverage cans, used in some automotive and truck components, and can protect steel structures such as pipes and water tank buried in the ground against corrosion.
Magnesium is very important role in the process of animal and plant life. Magnesium is found in chlorophyll, which is used by plants for photosynthesis. Magnesium is also taking part in the replication of DNA and RNA that has a very important role in the process of descent of all organisms. In addition, magnesium activates many enzymes that speed up chemical reactions in the human body and used as a drug neutralizing stomach acid.

Magnesium means alkaline earth metal which is an important and most abundant element present in the earth’s crust. Consumers should know that magnesium carries the symbol Mg which is a chemical element . Also consumers should know that magnesium contributes to the 2 percent of the earth’s crust by mass. The solubility of magnesium ions in water shows that it is highly dissolved element in the seawater. The readers of magnesium should know that magnesium is the eleventh element highly present in the human body in terms of mass. The ions of magnesium plays an essential role in the living cells of human body where it aids in promoting biological polyphosphate compounds like atp, dna, and rna.

Plants having chlorophyll contains metallic ion of magnesium present at the center of it, which is commonly used in fertilizers also. Not only this magnesium compounds are quite beneficial for medical aids like used as laxatives, antacids and also as stabilizer in nerve excitation along with blood vessel spasm in the human body. Consumers should also know that the taste of magnesium ions are quite sour and also magnesium used in mineral waters for refreshing the impure water. Consumers should know that magnesium is in fact a flammable metal in large proportion in the nature. But magnesium can be burnt off with the aid of powder or by shaving it into thin strips. Consumers should avoid such situations as magnesium has the ability to burn both in nitrogen and carbondioxide naturally.

Consumers should keep the information that magnesium powder was used in photograpy previously. Magnesium is also having the usage in the production of fireworks and marine flares who requires whitelight in their works. Like in thermite magnesium act as ignition source. Also magnesium is having the usage in steel and aluminium products in the industries. Users of magnesium compound like magnesium oxide used it in furnace linings for the production of iron, steel, glass, cement and nonferrous metals. Not only this various magnesium compounds are having the usage in agriculture, chemical and construction industries. Besides all these properties, magnesium too have the usage for removing sulfur from iron adn steel, refining titanium in the kroll proc ess, combining with several alloys for the production of airplane and missile constructions.

November 24th, 2009

A change in the sensitivity of your breasts, other than pain, might be a symptom of menopause, but it also might be something more severe. It could be mastic breast tissue, cysts, breast disease, or even neuropathy related to multiple sclerosis or fibromyalgia. It can also be a warning sign of breast cancer.

The new government recommendations on breast cancer screening were surprising to many doctors, but I happen to agree with them. The government is currently recommending against regular mammography tests for women aged 40 to 49. The guidelines also downplay the effectiveness of self-examinations and advise that women aged 50 to 74 years receive mammograms every other year. The change in early detection direction came from a U.S. Preventive Services Task Force comprised of a government panel of doctors and scientists. They concluded that early and frequent screenings by mammography often lead to false alarms and unneeded biopsies without substantially improving a woman’s odds of survival.

I agree with these new guidelines. First, I have not been a fan of mammograms for some time. I find that mammograms are not nearly as effective in detection as some other tests, like MRI’s and ultrasounds. I also have found that even when I teach my patients how to complete a manual breast exam, they are less than effective.

I support the new guidelines because I think it will lead to better testing. The ultrasound is a better screening procedure that’s safer and easier and picks up things fast. I believe that women should receive ultrasounds every year as part of their routine medical exam, beginning at an early age. If needed, MRI or PET scans can detect lumps and bumps better than any mammogram ever could.

November 24, 2009:

I havn’t posted here much in the last few weeks because, well, not too much has been happening garden wise. But, I did my annual soil test and got the results back. Here is what the lab showed . . .
Phosphorus – 220 ppm (between high and very high)
Potassium – 558 ppm (between high and very high)
Calcium – 4,776 ppm (between high and very high)
Mangnesium – 460 ppm (between high and very high)
Organic Matter – 7.6% (very high)
pH – 7.1 (perfect)

The bottom line is, my soil is absolutely perfect and deficient in NOTHING! It is all ready to plant come spring! There is no way of knowing the true condition your YOUR soil, without a soil test. Every serious gardener should get one done annually.

If you would like to get your soil tested, go to my website at http://www.thegardenguy.org, click on the SOIL TEST link on the right side of the page. Along with your test results, I will include my own personal recommendations on what you need to do to bring your soil up to good tilth and composition. Do yourself a favor, and do it now, to be ready for Spring planting!

By Judy Oldmeadow, Owner & Master Horsewoman, Samaria Creek Morgan Horses

An old breeder once told me, ‘I’ve been to places with one or two quiet horses, but never one where the whole herd is quiet and friendly!’

We have over 40 horses. And when a new one arrives with insecure behaviour, it becomes calm and tractable in a very short time – sometimes only days.

Owners visiting their horses after several months often don’t recognise them and make comments like, ‘She’s standing taller’, He’s moving more smoothly’ and recently of an older brood mare, ‘She looks proud and happy’.

I used to attribute this to my training methods. As I’ve matured, however, I’ve noticed how much our living environment, natural pasture and wonderful water contribute to calm, peaceful horses with sound feet, bones and joints.

Magnesium is often called the ‘nerve mineral’. It regulates nerve fibres, controls the central nervous system and helps with muscle and glandular function.

Horses deficient in this element can show nervousness, wariness, excitability and muscle tremors. This gives magnesium its reputation for having a calming influence on equines.

Horses have a limited ability to store magnesium. Problems arising from deficiency usually manifest quickly.

Magnesium deficiency is becoming widespread in Australia. It’s more readily inhibited than calcium by artificial fertilisers. It’s also made inert in the body by the sodium fluoride in some water supplies.

A study of magnesium uptake in horses was conducted by six veterinarians at the Department of Veterinary Biosciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, at Ohio State University.

It found the magnesium requirement of a typical horse was at 13 mg / kg of body weight per day. Horses growing, lactating or working use more (a lot of magnesium can be lost in sweat).

Opinions vary widely on magnesium supplements. It naturally depends in part on whether the soils on which a horse is grazing are deficient in the element. Such deficiency will be reflected in the grass grown.

In general, a horse gets 60-100% of its daily magnesium needs through a normal forage diet.

Deficiencies are most likely in spring (during periods of strong grass growth) and winter on pastures in milder areas (where grass is being pushed along with fertiliser).

Grass in both circumstances is likely to be low in magnesium, sodium and soluble carbohydrates, and high in nitrogen and potassium.

This is a double whammy: high potassium levels can slow the absorption of what little magnesium there is, while sodium (low in these situations) helps uptake.

Mechanisms affecting magnesium uptake in a horse are complex and not always diet related. Deficiency may just as likely be due to too much dietary potassium inhibiting uptake.

Nor is potassium the only potential player in this tricky equation. The presence and proportions of dietary calcium, phosphorous and fats also impact a horse’s ability to use the magnesium in its diet.

A deficient horse is likely to have a poor tolerance for work. Its muscles tie up quite quickly.

Magnesium even plays an important part in reducing equine obesity, and can lessen the risk of laminitis in animals prone to it during periods of strong spring grass growth.

Next time you’re looking for someone to care for your horse, make sure magnesium is on your list of ‘tough questions’.

As I plan my Thanksgiving Menu, I am reminded about the choices that we all make and the way a habit can so deeply become engrained into our daily lives.

In a family of four, I am the only one who has really embraced the power of a raw food lifestyle. Although I vary in the degree of raw % on a daily basis, my intent is clear to incorporate cleaner food choices for myself and my family into everything that I make. Since we are having company this holiday, and they each have very traditional SAD diets, I have decided to gently present RAW choices that are delicious and simple so everyone can enjoy the benefits without feeling the pressure of eating what the hostess prepares even if they don’t like it. That’s really the joy of Raw preparation. Pretty much everyone likes the ingredients, but they have never tried them together in a dish that hasn’t been cooked. For example, cooked carrots, peas and beans. Many people eat them cooked, but haven’t had the pleasure of a fresh sweet crunchy pea. Make selections this holiday that will showcase the simplicity of Raw and give your company a suprise with the new twist on traditional dishes, or add in a new dish like Matt Amsden’s cauliflower couscous, or fresh cranberry salad.

Week 6

Assigned workout: Speedwork, 6 mi incl warm, 3×1600 @ 9:15 w/800 jogs, cool

Location: The Embarcadero (takes too long to get to the track – 40-45 minutes each way via bus)

I arrived at the waterfront before 7:00am, a huge accomplishment for Miss I Like To Sleep In Lately. My first mile was slow and easy, including seeing the Bay Bridge at sunrise (beautiful!). Then came the dreaded repeats…

Mile 1: 9:15 on the nose
Mile 2: 9:18ish (hard to say, Garmin was set to 1-mile laps instead of 1/2 mile)
Mile 3: 9:21 (I was getting tired)

My knee grumbled a couple of times but nothing major. For those who don’t know, I have PFS and grade III/IV chondral changes in my cartilage – basically it’s disintegrating. Good times. It’s in both knees but the left is worse.

I got home quickly, had my usual chocolate milk, magnesium, and a Thomas’ whole wheat bagel with some Jif peanut butter. Delish!

I’m glad I got the run done before work because I am looking forward to a whole evening to myself. Bones is on and I have some organizing to do – time to start looking at what to pack for the big move!

From the Epilepsy Foundation we find that a seizure is: “A seizure is a massive disruption of electr

From the Epilepsy Foundation we find that a seizure is: “A seizure is a massive disruption of electrical communication between neurons in the brain—.“ You can find this at their web site and this page defines a seizure and a seizure threshold.

As someone that is not trained in biology or medicine it seems that a seizure occurs when the ‘break-over voltage’ exceeds the resistance of the circuit. This is how a semiconductor works as well which starts conduction when the ‘saturation voltage’ is reached. So let’s think about how signals travel down neural pathways. It would seem that they travel through a series of gates that control the ‘saturation’ levels of sodium and potassium along the pathway. The ‘action potential’ varies along the axon causing the sodium gates to open and allow sodium into the axon and then the potassium gate opens and allows potassium to rush out so that through this mechanism the ‘signal’ travels along the axon. When the signal reaches the synapse then neural transmitters are released to carry the signal to the next neuron through its dendrites.

The cell and axon returns to a stable voltage ‘without’ transmitting when the sodium potassium pumps through its action causes the sodium to be forced outside the axon and potassium to be brought into the axon thus reversing the signal or action potential. The cell body is somewhat more complicated but know that calcium gates are somewhat controlled by the concentration of magnesium.

It is interesting that the article immediately goes to neural transmitters like GABA and ACH and how too much of these will cause the cells to be over stimulated and continue to fire. This is somewhat different in how engineers would look at a semiconductor and what causes it to fire. Yes we look at the voltage of the base to control whether the semiconductor is on or off. However, we control what voltage causes the semiconductor to turn on/off by the amount of ‘doping’ or mineral/metal that is placed in the semiconductor during manufacture. The equivalent of this in the body of the cell and the axon is how the gates of the cell are working to allow conductive ions in and out and if there is adequate amounts of these electrolytes available.

Ions that are associated with this conduction are calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. So it would just seem that a proper diet is extremely critical for a stable environment of electrical conduction in the cell. That is you need to eat and absorb enough of these minerals so that proper electrical potentials are maintain.

Before you consider changing your diet and taking supplements be sure that you consult with your physician to get him to approve your changes. If he is resistant please suggest that he read the articles that I am suggesting for you.

Also as vitamin D is extremely important to maintain a healthy endocrine system, proper levels of this vital nutrient should be maintained. The newer understanding is each cell makes its own steroid form of vitamin D from the storage form of vitamin D. The cell does not have to get it through the serum level of the steroid as converted in the kidneys. So does vitamin D affect the threshold levels for seizures? Here is a study that was done in 1974 that says that there is an association: “Anticonvulsant Action” of Vitamin D in Epileptic Patients? A Controlled Pilot Study – 1974 Claus Christiansen, Paul Rødbro, and Ole Sjö

Also Dr. John Cannell talks extensively about seizures that are associated with autism and how that autism may be a result of vitamin D deficiency: “Vitamin D Deficiency’s Role in Autism”

Also Dr. Cannell has located many research articles that can be linked from PubMed through his research page on epilepsy.

ADP/ATP or your energy cycle in the mitochondrial bodies is important as this is where the energy for the sodium/potassium pump comes from. Magnesium/calcium balance in the mitochondria is extremely critical in proper operation of this ‘energy engine’. Some researchers claim that as much as 30 percent of the energy that is processed through these engines is used to maintain this balance. It should also be noted that ADP and ATP are ions and the cation that this reaction works best with is magnesium.

We typically get enough calcium from our diets but whether we properly absorb the calcium is dependent on whether we are replete in vitamin D. Magnesium however is another story. I particularly like Krispin’s page on magnesium on how much is enough. She is a life long nutritionist puts together a very clear way to get to proper magnesium levels. Krispin’s webpage on magnesium.

Vitamin D levels that are replete tend to cause magnesium to be reduced in your body. It typically takes about three months or longer for magnesium levels in the cells to reach a healthy value. There are many research papers that you may access at www.mgwater.com.

Potassium is also not properly understood as you can see that we need a minimum of 4.7 grams per day from this report from the Institute of Medicine from February, 2004. This article also tells you the proper balance of sodium and chloride. “Dietary Reference Intakes: Water, Potassium, Sodium, Chloride, and Sulfate”

Krispin does a great job on how to determine how much potassium we should get in a day based on weight and what foods to get if from. Krispin’s webpage on magnesium.

If you get a chance you may want to read her page on forgiveness: this is great piece of work in how we our bodies relate to our environment and memory.

Iodine properly works for energy balance as well and I would suggest these two articles on iodine:

Donald W. Miller, Jr. MD “Iodine for Health”

This recent article by Dr William Davis of the Heart Scan Blog written for life extension magazine: “Halt on Salt Sparks Iodine Deficiency”

I know this is a lot but taking only neurotransmitter stabilizers without being sure that you have proper minerals for electrical balance is just a road toward bad health. Remember the health of the brain activity is related to neural transmitter balance and electrolyte balance. This is true of the heart as well as a majority of the cells in the heart are neural cells.

Remember that electrolytes are really inexpensive and cannot be prescribed so that is not much of a profit motive to actively treat using proper diet to achieve mineral balance. Yet minerals may be more critical than neurotransmitters. I have always suspected this was the case in depression. Not enough potassium and magnesium to drive the signaling pathways.

people exercise daily inorder to keep one’s life healthy. One should take large quantity of energy forkeeping one’s muscles of the body in good shape.nutrition sportive is beneficial for both normal people and sportspersons and should take balanced breakfast and variety of high quality foods daily. Sports nutrition makes a unique place in the performances of sportspersons.Atheletes takes lots of sports nutrition like protein and fast digesting carbs prescribed by an expert. As after heavy work out one need to replenish glycogen level of the body too fastwhich is present in the most of the sports nutrition. The sporty people are guided for making the habit of taking healthy food instead of opting packaged, processed and fast food which mostly are not part of sports nutrition mentioned by an expert.

Sports nutrition shows the fact that many people are eating healthy food after consumption of water in the body.So one need not to rely on water only. There are lots of water forms of sports nutrition which could be taken through varied sources like sodas, juices, soy lattes, alcohol, and many other fancy energy drinks etc.Sports person avail energy from food and fluids mentioned in the sports nutrition diet menu.Users can categorize sports nutrition on the basis of three forms like carbohydrate, fats, and proteins in their daily diet.

Sports nutrition has a wide range of list through which many sporty persons can get benefits. Besides this normal people do can take the advantages of sports nutrition. For this one should read and collect iformation from booklets, net, and under expert guidance to make the best usage of sports nutrition on their body.Sports nutrition shows its prescence in dialy diets. It depends on the user what kind of diet they are using mentioned in the sports nutrition.People always had the question of having sports nutrition for enhancing their body level performance daily. As per that sports nutrition and supplements are guided to athletes and other people to make its consumption. Carbohydrate is found to be best part of sports nutrition as it provides heavy amount of energy to athletes.Sports nutrition helps in the contractions of muscles having the usage in each game player’s body. There are other sources of sports nutrition like glycogen helping in providing large amount of energy in the body.

Normally consumers of magnesium says that magnesium is a chemical element showing the symbol Mg.One should know that magnesium is the highly abundant element present on the earth’s crust which is a alkaline earth metal. Not only this magnesium also contributes to 2 percent of earth’s crust by mass.Readers of magnesium should have the information that it is a water soluble element. It is the third largest abundant element having the property of dissolving in seawater. In this way magnesium plays a major role in the human being whose ions essential for the living cells. Not only this magnesium helps in manipulating several biological polyphosphate compunds like atp, dna, and rna.Enzymes showing the important constituent of the body requires magnesium ions for its proper functioning.

People should know that magnesium is also present in the chlorophyll of the plants. It also act as additive in different fertilizers.Magnesium also have the role of medicinal purposes like laxatives, antacids, and in stabilization on the emergence of blood vessel spasm. In this way magnesium ions are found to be sour in taste. Not only this magnesium also shows the performance of low concentrations for freshing mineral waters. The properties of magnesium as a element is quite strong, silvery-white, light-weight metal present in the earth’s crust.Magnesium carries the reaction of exothermically with many acids such as hydrochloric acid.Magnesium compounds is used in many refactory material in several furnacing linings for the producing iron, steel, and nonferrous metals such as glass and cement.

Since magnesium is a strong and light element, mostly used in larger volume parts for manufacturing applications like automotive and truck components. One should know that magnesium keeps the property of flammable especially at a room temperatureof about 2500 K.so one should by mistake not considered magnesium as nonflammable object.Magnesium is having the usage in different things like removing sulfur from iron and steel, refining titanium in the kroll process, photoengrave plates in the printing industry, combination form in many alloys for the production of airplane and missile constrution, and available in the fomr of turnings and ribbons etc.

So retialers can make best of magnesium after collecting correct information about it.

It has never been more urgent or more difficult to collect patient-responsible balances. The combination of high-deductible health insurance plans increasing in popularity and the massive loss of medical benefits creates a pressing need for medical practices to re-evaluate patient collections. A strong collections program and the timely collection of patient balances are critical to the viability of the modern healthcare practice – important to the communities served as a source of patient care and a contributor to the local economy.

Healthcare has traditionally been a care-first and collect the money later type of business. Traditionally, payments from insurance companies were enough to keep medical practices viable, and many practices did not worry about patient collections. Today, the financial responsibility for payment for health services is swinging further and further toward the patient, and often without many patients understanding what is happening.

The Practice Should Assume Responsibility for Being the Insurance Expert for the Patient
Learn the payers, learn the plans, and help the patient understand what coverage and financial responsibilities they have. This book does not focus on filing claims, but insurance cannot be separated from the total payment process. To know the patient-responsible portion, the practice must know what the insurer/payer will pay. The ideal relationship is one where the patient relies on the practice for straightforward, non-biased information about paying for healthcare.

Disclose All Fees and Terms of Service Before the Patient Incurs a Financial Responsibility
Patients have the right to know your prices, compare your prices with other healthcare providers and make an informed decision about spending their money. It is part of the practice of healthcare that the patient acknowledges (whether they have the means to pay or not) that they have received something of value.

Remember – Your Practice Is In the Business of Compassion
Patients are not buying televisions or cars from you, they are buying the most important thing in the world – good, quality healthcare services and advice. Whether you believe that healthcare is a privilege or a right, always temper patient collections with the knowledge that paying for healthcare for themselves or their loved ones is a personal and often emotional transaction.

Magnesium plays a vital role in the human body. This mineral is found in plants as well as animals.

Magnesium plays a vital role in the human body. This mineral is found in plants as well as animals. This mineral is very useful to the plants in the process of photosynthesis and serves the part as a metabolic reaction in the animals. There are about 300 biochemical processes in the human body which has the requirement of magnesium.

The bones in the human body make use of magnesium. Half of the proportion of magnesium is found in the bones. It is useful in the production of the hormone named calcitonin. This hormone is useful in the production of calcium in the bones. The level of acidity in the blood is controlled by this hormone as there are chances of weakening the bone structure due to higher levels of acid. It is advisable that the children as well as the adults should always take the doses of magnesium. Due to lower levels of this mineral, there are chances of developing the illness and diseases in the body.

The neuromuscular activities of the heart are controlled by this important mineral thereby, helps in beating the heart regularly. The person’s blood pressure can be kept normal for a long period of time with the help of magnesium.

According to the research work done by the National Research Council, the individuals require about 300-400 mg of magnesium on the daily basis. For the adult males, the quantity of this mineral is about 350 mg a day and for the adult women, it is about 280 mg a day. This amount should be increased to about 420 mg for the pregnant women and during the time of breastfeeding. Children depending on different size and weight require about 130 mg of magnesium per day.
