The essence of Mahalo Creative Lounge and Café exists in the most basic necessity of life, which is consistent with every single human being on this planet and that is the desire to be loved and accepted. These emotional needs are first and foremost in every person’s life, from the moment of birth, whether they recognize it or not. Perhaps we are conditioned to strive to be successful, or rich, or competitive, or popular or whatever, but the reality of the drive for these things still boils down to that original, basic need. Every interaction with another human being is an exchange of energy to fulfill that which we seek. Mahalo is an opportunity to create an atmosphere that is unique, filled with creative, open-minded people that have a place where all people are welcome and accepted; all people are loved and treated like family. THIS is the very ESSENCE of Mahalo Creative Lounge and Cafe. This is what distinguishes us from the rest of the world. The driving forces behind Mahalo are feelings of love, acceptance, and cooperation, creating opportunity, freedom, hope and unity. I can almost guarantee that most business minded people fail to see these things when they are piecing together their business plans. We are an incredible group of entrepreneurs with a GRAND idea that stems from a place of gratitude and love of life itself. Rochester, New York needs a place like this. Every city in the world needs a place like this! We hope to touch the souls of each and every person with our mission.

The meaning of Mahalo is to be grateful

We at Mahalo Creative Lounge and café would like to express our Gratitude for all who take the time to read this blog.

Mahalo and feel free to leave comments

Thanks to all who turned out to support On The Rise at the LUPEC Boston Tiki Bash this weekend! Our night of “cocktailing for a cause” included classic Tiki cocktails, delicious appetizers, ukulele and hula performances, and Tiki-inspired burlesque. Guests danced the night away and a good number of people went home with fabulous prizes!

Over 400 people attended our sold out event – most of whom arrived exactly at 8 o’clock. The line for the bar snaked through the lobby at intervals, the cocktail snacks on offer ran out quickly, and the tickets we’d hoped to allot for sale at the door ran out before we could even open the event. Based on guest feedback from last year, we made many improvements to this year’s event. Nevertheless, the amazing turnout and support for our benefit for On The Rise exceeded our expectations! As our fall event grows it continues to be a work in progress and we are already working on ideas to make next year’s party better.

We’re still tallying the funds and will announce the total amount of money raised for our fall beneficiary, On The Rise, very soon. ‘Til then, Mahalo! And thanks for making this event such a wonderful, lucrative, fundraising success!

Relive the evening through this photo gallery at Boston.com, or this awesome event write-up on Tea Party Boston.

Cin-cin!

LOST AND FOUND ANNOUNCEMENT! A guest’s IPhone went missing at the Tiki Bash this Saturday. It is a black phone with a black case. If you grabbed it by accident and arrived home with two IPhones instead of one, please contact us ASAP at lupec@lupecboston.com so we can return the phone to it’s owner.

There are also Related Mahalo Pages and Categories so you can browse other video game walthroughs while you are at it. What more can you ask for?

For those of you like me, who are video game newbies, this may help: How to Pick a Gaming System http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-pick-a-gaming-system

Here is a great tip for a gift for yourself or your friends and family whether they are a video gamer or not. This book: Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card (and the book series) is really sick as they say – a gripping, excellent book all about the world of video gaming in the future. A gripping book – you won’t want to put it down and will want to know how the series ends right away. But these books are almost impossible to get locally.

Luckily, with the holidays coming I found this steal of a deal (scroll down to pick the package deal for $48.70 & check any eligible shipping savings too), check it out and ENJOY ( I want one too) :

Sure, i will get an answer after watching it.
How to Become a Genius http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-become-a-genius
In my opinion, if you want to really tax your brain the ideas on the following 3 pages should give you a real mental workout: How to Write a Science Fiction Novel http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-write-a-science-fiction-novel or How to Write a Fantasy Novel http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-write-a-fantasy-novel or for the briefer version with less time How to Publish a Short Story Videos http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-publish-a-short-story-videos . No one needs to live on $0 a day – if you can write, and you have access to the Internet, at least not after your paycheques start coming in. They are expanding right now at http://www.mahalo.com and have spots available for their howto team to write articles, you click on the Tasks tab after registering and can try one Rush Week page a week till you get accepted to the howto team – this month they go for $10 an article and you can keep your page and curate them and get ad revenue from them also. To start earning immediately just register and go to http://www.mahalo.com/answers and you can start earning from 25 cents and up a question – no application required. Check out How Mahalo Works http://www.mahalo.com/how-mahalo-works . I could see writing an article maybe where you have to live on say $2 a day, or $30 a day?. For more info, there is a recent blog entry from someone who joined the howto team at Mahalo and is writing about how much they have earned, what it is like etc. http://bit.ly/QPxyG . P.S. I have a blog and the first 2 postings have links to over 40 job finding pages – mostly how to pages at Mahalo at http://helpfind.wordpress.com (just scroll down or click on the 2 first postings after my intro on the Recent Posts sidebar to go right there)

Is it weird that whenever I end up in a fast food place, which I’m finding increasingly hard to do with an alarming frequency, I always see the sign on the trash can…

And think of this:

…which, of course, is from Michelangelo’s Creation Of Adam, the 1511 fresco that is one of the many images adorning the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, and illustrates the Book of Genesis.

Or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, whatever your brand of religion is.

Either way: It’s the hand of God touching the trash of the world. Or, rather, throwing it away. The Garden of Eden wasn’t a paradise, it was a compose pile! It was a recylcing bin! The refuse of humanity!

from here.

I know, I know, I need to get out more. Maybe not spend as much time with just myself and my thoughts. Believe me, you’re not the first to mention it. This is where all my thoughts tend to go:

And, only semi-related, the Burger King character still freaks me out…

I mean, right? Look at this guy.

After cars and cash, the next thing fly honeys dig in a guy is his Henry VIII apparel. This I know be truth.

Look at that. First he’s rubbing sun tan lotion on your girlfriend at the beach while you’re at work and then next thing you know…

You’re waking up to a big bad mistake. And he’s got his own cologne. Ugh. But I digress…

…to celebrity trash, it is! No, no, just kidding.

I’m fascinated by the idea of trash as art, such as the sculpture of Tim Noble and Sue Webster immediately above here, or Yuken Teruya’s trash art tree seen a little higher up, the refuse of humanity turned back into something of use or importance. The recycling of that which we used and no longer want into something that we not only want, but cherish. Who knows, maybe Michelangelo would be proud. Especially if it was all done in the name and glory of God. Or, at least of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

I don’t want to sound like the Wes Bentley character in American Beauty, but it almost makes you want to look at trash slightly differently, right?

Well… maybe not. But food for thought, I hope.

Hello everyone,

I have came across some really good sites that pay you to to search the web! Read below for more information…

This is how it works: Users search for an answer to a question either at a search engine or via a text message to the company. This question then get passed to an available operator (ie. yourself). You research the question, find the answer and send it to the client with your computer.

The good and the bad

The great thing with this type of work is that you can usually set your own hours and work from anywhere as long as you have an internet connection. You don’t have to sit still for hours; you can answer questions whenever you get the chance. This makes it ideal for when you have little kids around.
The bad is that the pay is often rather low. Payment is by number of questions answered, so you need to work fast in order to make it worth your while. Work may not be available at all times either so really this type of opportunity for most will only be as extra cash rather than a full supporting income. There are some people however who do make decent money doing this.

Where can I find work?
Currently the companies below offer work. Each of the following has different requirements so please read through each website carefully.
1) ChaCha
2) Justanswer.com
3) AQA 6336
4) Mahalo Greenhouse

If you know of anymore, please add a comment under this post.

Little Gem, my seven year old, kept asking me last Spring, if we could go to Hawaii for the Summer holidays…

I said that I would love to but that Summer was nice in Vancouver and maybe we could wish for a trip in the Winter…

She loves watching Jack Johnsons on Youtube – both the musician and the hockey player, and I bought her a ukelele for Easter in preparation for a revival… so she’s all set…

and I’ve decided that I’m going to start speaking Hawaiian, immediately…

Did you know that Aloha means invoking the presence of Divine Breath???!!!!!!!

A single word blessing like this on a rainy grey day can make all the difference in another person’s world…

Don’t get me started on Mahalo…

Do your own research…

And as far as the Canuck’s and Stanley Cup potential are concerned let’s start putting our mana where our mouth is and watch what we think and what we say…

Beginning with sports commentators…

I’ve only been listening for a few months and I’m already losing interest…

The industry really needs to wake up and work on its material…

very little of what gets said has the integrity to hold any water…

A lot of fluff and no Fleury…

NO EMPLOYEES TO DO THE WORK. The flip side. Immediate work for anyone 13 and over with Internet access available now, no screening, no fees, work globally from home, own pace, more work than anyone can possibly do – at least 10 times more people needed in my section.

Why can’t we find people? Why don’t people want to work? Is it that the pay starts at 37 cents a question? Gosh, lots of them are easy -what did you think of this or that and give an example or a link to support it even are the easiest, or where can I buy such and such or how can I cook such and such? How to bake a cake, do handiwork around the house, knit, sew, run a business etc.

Has no one heard of us? Do they not believe it is possible? Yes it is.
Do you think you won’t get in? Yes you can.

Why shouldn’t the media be for the people and by the people? Maybe then some of the harm that has been imposed on us by the media in the past can be replaced by something positive. Looks like that is happening already here
http://www.mahalo.com/answers/parenting/cool-websites-for-girls-or-how-can-girls-turn-into-happy-healthy-and-well-grounded-individuals and also in Ashton Kutcher’s other initiative by creating safe environments for young girls to interact online http://www.mahalo.com/blahgirls . In fact, the next generation of media writers is probably already being trained here for free as we speak http://www.mahalo.com/how-mahalo-works . The future may already be here, while we are still looking at it as merely a fantasy novel http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-write-a-fantasy-novel .

Movies are the world’s most influential communication medium. They catalyze conversation in countr

Movies are the world’s most influential communication medium. They catalyze conversation in countries all over the world. Films teach history, tell stories, and make people laugh until their bellies and faces ache. Moving pictures are for the young, old, rich, poor, educated, and the illiterate.

Etched in each moviegoer’s memory is a panoply of great scenes from tens of thousands of films. How much fun is a dinner, cocktail, or keg party if nobody could quote a movie line? The language of film is universal.

Unfortunately, to re-experience these moments can be painful. Watching Humphrey Bogart kiss Ingrid Bergman or John Belushi scream “Food Fight” or Russell Crowe facing down tigers in the Coliseum is a challenge. These are moments that everyone wants to experience over and over again. But, does anyone really pop in a DVD and patiently scan for their favorite scenes? No. We search the Internet. Mostly, we don’ find what we’re looking for, and, when we do, it’s far from a cinematic experience.

THE PROBLEMS

So far, The Internet has provided a piecemeal solution to digital video. There are plenty of video sharing sites filled with user-uploaded content, but their selection is haphazard at best. You might find “I love the smell of napalm in the morning” seven minutes into a longer clip or with abominable picture and sound. Diehard fans do will share shaky, unreliable videos of their televisions shot on camera phones.

So you might find what you are looking for but only if you’re willing to sort through a lot of garbage and put up with subpar film quality. But people love movies so they put up the problems.

Over 12 million people have watched the above clip from The Lion King. I wonder how much money Elton John and Tim Rice have gotten for their work. Neither the owners of these films nor the artists who make them receive any compensation from the display of their works. If it’s not illegal, it’s definitely unethical. This user-generated video industry combined with other public policy issues have unintentionally driven a wedge between Hollywood and the most dynamic and creative Internet companies. Content owners must benefit from Internet distribution and AnyClip wants to provide the most compelling and engaging platform to help them do so.

WHAT IS ANYCLIP

Six months ago, my co-founder Nate Westheimer and I joined an amazing group of Israeli developers who also happen to love movies. We wanted to build a Web service that would allow anyone to find any moment from any film ever made instantly. Our co-founder and lead investor Erel Margalit suggested we name the company AnyClip.

Everybody wants to relive scenes and AnyClip set out to make that possible. Creating the data and search technology to make that work presents formidable challenges. When searching for a scene from a movie, people describe moments in so many different ways: from dialogue and plot description to hazy memories of shark attacks and flying cars. This creates really engrossing and thorny computing problems. If someone searches for “dead shark,” do they want to see Roy Scheider blowing up Jaws (i.e. action on screen) or Woody Allen lamenting the “death” of his relationship with Annie Hall (i.e. dialogue)? The AnyClip platform incorporates tools to handles these issues and more.

Early tests show our service can be a great discovery engine for films. A search for “I love you” produces countless clips from hundreds of movies. A brief visit to AnyClip can yield an iTunes download or an addition to a Netflix queue. At AnyClip, clips are dynamic and up to four minutes long. You can adjust a clip to relive exactly the joyous, daring, or inspirational moment you crave. This sample may encourage a purchase, rental, or download of the entire film. At minimum, it reunites the movie lover with the art and the artists who brought them such joy. This reaffirm loyalty and interest in the future work these artists produce. That’s called “promotion.” AnyClip evokes memories and channels them to enhance the values of the world’s great film libraries.

Today, we also launch a public API for our data and eventually for legally licensed content. This would allow companies like IMDB, Slide, RockYou, Netflix, Zynga, OMGPOP, Twitter, Facebook, Mahalo and – most importantly – the insanely creative and brilliant independent developers around the world to build great user experiences with movie clips on top of our movie data. AnyClip is a platform to power a renaissance of the greatest movies the world has ever known.

DISRUPTIVE BY DESIGN

If you look closely at the movie ecosystem, the only institutions that suffer from a legally available AnyClip are those that benefit from leaving the current system intact. First and foremost are existing Internet media providers that hide behind the safe harbor provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. While nobody knows precise numbers, YouTube has served billions of movie scenes to audiences around the world. Overseas video sharing and PTP sites — Tudou, Megavideo, PirateBay and BiTTorrent –operate outside the reach of US laws. Naturally content owners have been wary of digital distribution in light of these abuses and violations of the DMCA.

History shows Hollywood struggles with new formats and other technological innovation. They are instinctively protective of their core businesses. Thirty years ago, Universal sued Sony for creating the Betamax. Luckily, they failed and today we have a US $25 billion DVD industry. The good news is AnyClip enhances every distribution window. Every one. We don’t compete. We complement.

And that’s important, because DVD revenue is dropping for the first time since the format’s introduction. Piracy and Internet video-on-demand from the likes of Amazon, Netflix and iTunes are changing consumption patterns. Economic realities have forced audiences to reassess their entertainment spending.

One way to stanch the bleeding in the Home Video Market is to reinvigorate the value locked in our memories. Short of innovation, the motion picture industry will continue to see declining revenue and audiences will get fewer new magical moments. Why? Because Quentin Tarantino and Ridley Scott will be given smaller budgets. Does anybody really want to deprive Peter Jackson of the budgets required to make another Lord of the Rings?

Many powerful Hollywood people have told us that AnyClip is amazing but impossible. Some very smart industry executives are rooting for us to succeed but worry about the legal landscape. At its best, the digital rights marketplace is byzantine. These executives are right to be concerned. For the sake of the movie industry’s wonderful and talented people, and the billions of fans around the world, we certainly hope we can find a way to work within the law to create great opportunities for all.

And this includes AnyClip. While we will be a smaller participant in any transactions that occur between content owner and consumer, we believe this business will scale just fine. It’s the greatest content that has ever been made etched in the memories of everybody on Earth. We think “reliving movie moments” is a huge market. We are the catalyst for what will be a high-growth legal clip economy.

Our fourth co-founder is the former CEO of Sony America Mickey Schulhof. Mickey knows the pitfalls as well as the upsides of media innovation having introduced the CD and Playstation to North America. He always tells me that if it weren’t for naysayers, we wouldn’t have revolutionary companies.

“Sometimes you just have to do things, Aaron,” Mickey told me when I first described AnyClip. It’s time for the curtains to open.

For help with finding job ads, making a career change, and browsing more job finding how to and resource pages by category please see my previous blog post. The following pages should help you with the paperwork and procedures involved in getting a job.

This is a necessary process for success in most job finding interactions except at Mahalo http://www.mahalo.com where anyone 13 or over can start work online immediately to work from home on a piece work basis for extra money. Currently there are over 60 pages of paid tasks in the Tasks tab, hundreds if not thousands of unanswered questions, daily and weekly contests with cash prizes, and probably most of the more than 100,000 of their web pages are yet unclaimed for revenue sharing in page creation and/or management with free training provided. In fact with the economy being so down, I don’t understand why so many open tasks paying money are not yet taken. It seems to me that it could help someone out there – please pass that information on to others looking for some extra money to earn and do someone a favor that could lead them in a new career direction!

There’s debate about whether anyone can be deemed a social media expert because the field is relatively new, and continues to evolve so rapidly, that it’s too soon for anyone to claim that label.

Well, if you go by what’s currently happening in the social media sphere, Tamar Weinberg is an expert.

Steeped in social media

Weinberg proudly proclaims that she’s “a member of just about every social network that has a name.” Along with being a prolific blogger, she’s the Director of Community for Mashable and is an independent social media consultant.

She’s steeped in social media.

This comes through loud and clear in The New Community Rules: Marketing on the Social Web, where she proffers observations that could only come from someone who understands the real intricacies of scores of social media outlets.

Acute insight

Wienberg’s expertise is trenchant. When discussing the topic of return on investment for social media (an oft-cited sticky widget) she reinforces and elaborates upon a comment by Social Media Explorer Jason Falls about how “The problem with trying to determine ROI for social media is you are trying to put numeric quantities around human interactions and conversations, which are not quantifiable.”

She covers how to properly engage in social media — the ol’ it’s a dialogue not a monologue — then digs deeper with knowledge and tips that provide true keys to success.

Throughout the book she drills home crucial aspects of effective social media practice, such as recommendations and the numerable ways these may occur, along with the unspoken rule that you need to discuss issues not only of your own interest, but also those of the community at-large. “Altruism rules above all,” she wisely writes.

Weinberg consistently explains how various elements relate to search engine optimization; the outcome of which can play a big role in the visibility of your web site and provide a powerful tool for reputation management, if you know how to work it right.

Delving under the radar

Discussion of blogs, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, videos and podcasts are to be expected in a book of this title. Though again, Weinberg’s perceptions are a cut above the rest.

With Twitter she advises not to dive in head first and instead begin by listening to conversations going on about your particular industry, to include seeing what your competitors are up to. She tells how Twitter is great for tapping into prospects and influencers and calls out tools to search for topics, trends and people.

Her attention to the assorted platforms includes outlining specific advantages; the “why should I care” proposition. With Twitter, she says, “One of the biggest benefits of using the service is the ability to get people to answer questions quickly.” She shows how it can be like an instantaneous focus group, not to mention an invaluable customer service tool.

More added value of this text comes in Weinberg’s coverage of topics that are somewhat under the radar. She delves deep into the bookmarking services StumbleUpon and delicious. She calls attention to Mahalo, a not so well known site that’s good to get a handle on because its results can achieve high rank on search engine results pages.

Her discussion of how social news sites operate — digg, mixx, reddit, Slashdot, sphinn, Tip’d, Yahoo! Buzz, and others — is a true revelation. Here’s an area gaining in adoption that can make a significant difference in attention to your brand. However, it’s tricky business: There’s a boatload of do’s and don’ts that can make the difference between wasting your time or having a big hit.

Injecting case studies to illuminate certain points, Weinberg covers a tremendous amount of ground. So much so that you might want to devour the material in bites.

Weinberg stresses that “social media marketing is a comprehensive effort,” and the same goes for this book.

My dear Auntie poses a good question:

“Do you think aloha is to Hawaiians as mate is to Australians? Sounds like an overused, stereotypical word but the natives really use it.”

After a 2-minute research session I found this site:

http://www.geocities.com/~olelo/shelties/mahalo-aloha.html

So the words carry spiritual meaning, but do the locals really roll around saying Aloha, Aloha, Mahalo, Mahalo? Only time will tell…
