Here we believe “size matters”. The value of a call to action, whether a premium or white paper, must reinforce your message or provide additional information that helps push a sales cycle along. For example, if possible, have a rep deliver the item as a way to get face time.</span></span></strong></p>

<p>The Royal Mail Service is actually very competitive and effective but it can have a real impact when service is suspended.  Here are some alternative strategies:</p>
<ul>
<li>Get organised and think ahead, send your mail early if you can (for instance cards)</li>
<li>Send things electronically, although e-mail can be unsecure so think about web servers.  If you don&#8217;t have a secure log in web space you could try using Box Net or You Send It for storing, sharing or sending large files &#8211; <a href="http://www.box.net">www.box.net</a> and <a href="http://www.yousendit.com">www.yousendit.com</a></li>
<li>Use a courier service - although shop around for quotes as they will differ, the big ones are DHL and Parcelforce but there may be ones local to you that could provide a more competitive localised quote &#8211; <a href="http://www.dhl.co.uk">www.dhl.co.uk</a> and <a href="http://www.parcelforce.com">www.parcelforce.com</a></li>
<li>If it is leaflets or brochures you need delivering consider a distribution company such as Link Direct or DBS Limited, again you may find a more competitive and targeted quote from a business locally though &#8211; <a href="http://www.linkdirect.co.uk">www.linkdirect.co.uk</a> and <a href="http://www.dbslimited.co.uk">www.dbslimited.co.uk</a></li>
<li>Get in touch with your customers and suppliers in person &#8211; walk, enjoy the fresh air and personal contact!  In the last strike we delivered some mail for one of our customers ourselves and the free exercise and fresh air was a treat!</li>
<li>Use the Royal Mail Special Delivery Service &#8211; this is likely to continue even with a strike, it is a premium cost but guarantees next day delivery</li>
<li>You could try your local scout group for card deliveries, it has official clearance to run a Scout Post Service and costs up to 20p a card</li>
<li>Royal Mail has its competitors since the market was opened and you could try one of these operators &#8211; TNT and DHL - however even in a strike they are likely to suffer as well because they rely on the postman to deliver the mail for the &#8220;last mile&#8221; i.e. direct to the door &#8211; <a href="http://www.tntpost.co.uk">www.tntpost.co.uk</a> and <a href="http://www.dhl.co.uk">www.dhl.co.uk</a></li>
<li>Sit it out &#8211; the strike is not going to last forever so you could just bide your time!</li>

<p style="text-align:left;">A virtual assistant can be one of the biggest weapons in your company.  A VA can handle administrative tasks, act as a resource on everything from reputable repair companies to local top restaurants, and market your business in new ways you never imagined.  A virtual assistant can support your business by taking on tasks such as Web maintenance, marketing mailings, or creating Flyers and brochures.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">The biggest challenge in choosing a virtual assistant is finding someone who clicks with you.  A virtual assistant has to be your right-hand person and know that you can count on her to delegate the work you’ve given her.  This is why it’s important to have frequent communication with each other and be able to understand one another.  Price can be a huge factor in choosing the right VA, but remember that price doesn’t always win over experience.  Once you find the perfect VA, you’ll feel stable and comfortable to work with her.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">The internet has a vast amount of Virtual Assistant websites.  Each profile is different and most VA’s specialize in a task of expertise, so it’s important to contact the one that you feel has the experience that reflects your business.  Make sure to view a VA’s portfolio page where you’ll see a few of the work she’s done in the past.  Most VA websites have an “About Me” page that can give you a brief description of the assistant  and when and why they started a virtual assistant business.  You will usually find a “services” page that includes all the tasks they can perform.</p>

<p>Los principales retos a los que se enfrentan las empresas del sector son: la búsqueda de nuevos clientes y el mantenimiento de la cartera actual, la continuidad del negocio, alcanzar los objetivos o conseguir más financiación. Ante esta situación, el sector de la publicidad pide a las Administraciones Públicas mayor apoyo, subvenciones y ayudas y reducción de impuestos.</p>
<p>Éstas son las principales conclusiones:</p>
<p>· El sector de la publicidad en España aglutina alrededor de 40.000 empresas, con una cifra de ocupación de entre 120.000 y 130.000 personas (de éstos, aproximadamente 40.000-50.000 desempeñan su actividad por cuenta propia)</p>
<p>· La media de trabajadores es 16,8 empleados</p>
<p>· Casi la totalidad de las empresas cuentan en su mayor parte con capital español, y hay una mayor presencia de capital extranjero en las de mayor tamaño</p>
<p>· El 42,7 % de las empresas entrevistadas tiene una antigüedad comprendida entre 11 y 20 años (un 30,9 % es inferior, y superior en un 23,9 %)</p>
<p>· El régimen jurídico es en su mayor parte sociedad limitada (66,7%, frente a un 24,5 % que son sociedad anónima)</p>
<p>· El 68,8% de las empresas se concentran en la Comunidad de Madrid (37,9%) y Cataluña (30,9%)</p>
<p>· Más de la mitad de las compañías sitúan su facturación entre 0,5 y 3 millones de euros/año</p>
<p>· Los principales servicios que ofrecen son: publicidad, artes gráficas, carteles, vallas y marquesinas, prensa, marketing, eventos, ferias y mailings</p>
<p>· Las empresas del sector operan mayoritariamente en el ámbito nacional</p>
<p>· Un 55,5 % de las empresas trabajan con los anunciantes, un 42,4 % con empresas del propio sector de la publicidad, un 18,8 % con la Administración Pública y un 8,2 % con el Tercer Sector</p>
<p>· Por sectores de trabajo: Tecnologías de la Información (65,8%), la banca (17,6%), alimentación (15,5%), automoción (13,6%), seguros (11,5%) y limpieza e higiene (6,1%)</p>
<p>· Existe un gran desconocimiento del plan sectorial de Formación Continua: el 59,7% de las empresas no lo conoce, frente a un 26,4 % que afirma lo contrario (de éstos, el 61% lo han utilizado, con una satisfacción global media de 7,26 puntos sobre 10)</p>

<title><![CDATA[Political Party Honesty? Please?]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>We tend to spend a lot of time looking at the various pronouncements of party grandees, looking for places to pick at, don&#8217;t we? Not today: today I want to share with you my views on dishonest dealings between parties and citizens.</p>
<p>
Let&#8217;s start with email. Every email that is sent from a mailing list, or unsolicited, is supposed to provide a link to a removal capability, or some other means of being taken off the mailing list. Parties seem to think themselves above the law.</p>
<p>
I have, as an example, asked the NDP to remove me from their mailings several times. When their emails have provided a link for removal, I have clicked it, and been told that I <i>have</i> been removed. Oddly enough, this does not stop the emails from coming. (I guess when you work in a party political office, &#8220;removal&#8221; must have a different meaning than the one normally found in either English or French.)</p>
<p>
The latest emails — several a day, with a reply address of randomised characters but ostensibly by one or another MPs — are from the NDP convention taking place this weekend in Halifax. These have <i>no</i> removal capability. My repeated requests to no longer receive NDP emails have fallen on deaf ears.</p>
<p>
<i>Any</i> corporation that acted in such a callous manner would (and should) expect to be called to account for it: in the court of public opinion, as the subject of media exposés, and perhaps even in a court of law. The NDP? Couldn&#8217;t care less, apparently.</p>
<p>
So much for caring about &#8220;ordinary Canadians&#8221;. Let me say it in public once again: <i>I don&#8217;t want any email from the New Democratic Party</i>.</p>
<p>
After all, I don&#8217;t see why I should give up an email address I&#8217;ve had for over a decade simply to make these clowns go away. (I&#8217;d also really like to figure out how they get past my spam filters, something they can apparently do with ease even though the other 300+ bits of junk I get a day all get trapped nicely and therefore don&#8217;t bother me.)</p>
<p>
But the NDP are not alone. Try the Conservatives on for size.</p>
<p>
To be fair, I don&#8217;t have a problem with Conservative emails. Four or five a year from my local EDA are not a big issue. What I&#8217;m plagued with by Conservative Central Office in Ottawa are an endless stream of telephone calls.</p>
<p>
Once again, one might think that &#8220;no, I don&#8217;t want to donate to the Conservative Party&#8221; would be sufficient, but it&#8217;s not. About once every two or three weeks my phone starts ringing again. That is, my phones start ringing: office number, home number, cell phone number. Although these are not auto-dialler calls — whenever I pick up, there is always (without any delay) a person ready to go into their &#8220;an election could come any time&#8221; spiel — a message is never left.</p>
<p>
I have reported their phone number (it is consistent) as over-the-top telemarketing. Doing this for banks, polling companies, insurance firms, department stores and all sorts of not-for-profit interest groups (in those cases where I&#8217;ve had to: most of those are more than willing to honour a request not to call me again) has inevitably <i>stopped</i> further calls. Not with this bucket shop of eager beavers! No, the calls keep coming.</p>
<p>
I have changed one number and probably will need to change the other two, since communicating to the last three callers that &#8220;this is harassment, and that&#8217;s a criminal offence&#8221; hasn&#8217;t helped.</p>
<p>
So, to all parties: I don&#8217;t want to answer your poll questions, and I don&#8217;t want to give you money. I don&#8217;t care how much your leader wants to thank me, reward me, meet me or whatever the come-on of the day is.</p>
<p>
The Liberals, too, are not immune. I have an MP who thinks that because I took the time to write her an email <i>once</i> on an issue that I must want to receive every promotional email, mailing, etc. going. Joyce Murray, MP, let me be clear with you, too: I don&#8217;t care how many ribbons you cut, how passionate you are about an issue, how often you&#8217;re &#8220;visible&#8221; in the riding. Your MP mailers are a member&#8217;s privilege; thinking I want my email inbox cluttered because I wrote once to you is abusive.</p>
<p>
You&#8217;ve convinced me, Ms. Murray, that hell will freeze over before I offer you my opinion again.</p>
<p>
The BC NDP seem to have (finally!) gotten the message to leave me alone, and the BC Liberals, BC Greens and Federal Greens never bother me, thank goodness. (Applause to the Federal Greens, as I have donated to one campaign, but they seem to understand that support for a candidate in one election doesn&#8217;t translate into being a party supporter automatically.)</p>
<p>
So &#8230; the next time you try to tell me you&#8217;re &#8220;tough on crime&#8221;, &#8220;working for the community&#8221;, &#8220;honouring your commitments&#8221;, &#8220;treating ordinary people with respect&#8221; (or whatever other plather your brain trusts and focus groups tell you to cram down my throat), take a good hard look at your own operations first. There&#8217;s not many of you that would pass the sniff test, either as individuals or as parties.</p>
