I think along with Pete Rock, Marley Marl, Dr. Dre and DJ Premier, Large Professor makes up a quintet of hip hop’s best ever producers. Without doubt, of these 5 the Main Source man is easily the most underappreciated. Despite his incredible work on ‘Breakin Atoms’ ‘Illmatic’ and ‘Wanted: Dead or Alive’ ’Vagina Diner’ and some of rap’s best remixes for the likes of Organized Konfusion, Slick Rick and Common, Large Pro somewhat dissappeared in the mid 90s. His own personal projects after Main Source suffered from the abscence of the humour that permeated ‘Breaking Atoms’ and by the 00s his lyrics seemed to present a man weary of his unrealised success. His potential to produce a quality beat is unchecked though, and his serious stylings sit well over this plaintive track. It’s excellent stuff. Plus, check out an unusually broody Q-Tip rail against the dangers of child minds being corrupted by videogames in his guest verse!

Oct. 9 (Bloomberg) — India’s Finance Minister

Pranab Mukherjee

said that while Inflation is an “important factor,” the central bank shouldn’t “compromise” on the nation’s economic growth.

The challenge in India echoes a debate around the world among officials who are seeking to secure sustained economic recoveries without leaving stimulus measures in place long enough to create an Inflation boom. A decision this week by Australia’s central bank to raise rates has sparked speculation others may follow in coming months, analysts said.

“Ever since Australia’s central bank raised its cash rate on Tuesday, markets have been on the lookout for the next candidate,” said

Alaistair Chan

, an economist at Moody’s Economy.com in Sydney. “In Asia, the central bank deemed most likely to tighten next is either the Bank of Korea or the Reserve Bank of India.”

Governor Duvvuri Subbarao said this week that even as the Reserve Bank of India has unity on the need to raise borrowing costs, there is less agreement on when and how it should be done.

Policy Meeting

Mukherjee said in the interview yesterday that the interest-rate decision in this month’s monetary policy meeting depends on the economic “situation prevailing at the time.” A central bank policy statement is scheduled for Oct. 27.

India’s policy makers are confronted with accelerating Inflation along with slowing growth. Consumer prices are climbing more than 10 percent as the weakest monsoon rains since 1972 create food Shortages. Rain water is the main source of irrigation in the country.

At the same time, growth in India’s $1.2 trillion economy, Asia’s third largest, is slowing. The expansion rate for the year ending March 31 may be around 6 percent, the weakest performance since 2003, Mukherjee said.

“The exit from economic stimulus cannot be a straightjacket formula followed by all countries,” Mukherjee said. “It must be country specific.”

‘Accommodative’ End

Subbarao said, before Australia’s Oct. 6 move, that India may need to exit from “accommodative” monetary policy earlier than advanced economies.

Australia unexpectedly raised its benchmark rate to 3.25 percent from 3 percent, saying the time for historically low rates had “passed.”

South Korea’s central bank may tomorrow leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged for an eighth month as it looks for more signs of overheating in the real estate market, before raising rates, economists said.

Mukherjee said he is scheduled to discuss monetary policy with Subbarao “around Diwali,” a Hindu festival that falls on Oct. 17. He did not spell out the finance ministry’s stance on rates, saying that “keeping in view the dynamism of the economy, whatever is necessary will be done.”

Asked about past periods when the Indian economy expanded even after interest-rate increases, Mukherjee said that a “reasonable level of interest rate” can be absorbed by local companies.

‘Reasonable’ Level

“What is the reasonable level depends on the situation prevailing at that point of time and it is always flexible and adjustable,” Mukherjee added.

The central bank wants to ensure that the money pumped into the economy since last October to protect it from the global recession, amounting to more than 12 percent of gross domestic product, doesn’t create excessive demand for cars, mortgages and other products and further fan inflation.

The Reserve Bank reduced interest rates six times from October 2008 to April 2009 and slashed the cash reserve ratio, injecting about 5.6 trillion rupees ($120 billion) into the economy. The key

reverse repurchase rate

is at a record low of 3.25 percent.

The consumer price index for agricultural labor jumped 12.9 percent in August from a year earlier while the index for industrial labor advanced 11.9 percent, according to government data. While India uses wholesale price data as its key gauge, it also calculates consumer price indexes for rural and urban workers.

inflation Measures

In July, the central bank raised its wholesale-price inflation forecast to 5 percent from 4 percent by the end of March 2010. The wholesale price index rose 0.7 percent in the week to Sept. 26, climbing for a fourth week, the commerce ministry said Oct. 8.

India’s 10-year bond yields have increased 1.96 percentage points to 7.21 percent this year, the most since at least 1999, as rising prices spurred inflation expectations.

Prospects for higher interest rates have propelled the rupee, which has appreciated 5.2 percent this year to the highest level in almost 13 months. India’s currency has also benefited from speculation of increased inflow of overseas capital.

Foreign institutional investors bought $13.6 billion of Indian equities from April 1 to Sept. 18, compared with sales of $5.2 billion of equities in the same period a year ago, reflecting a turnaround of $19 billion, the central bank said this week.

The inflows are further complicating India’s plans to raise rates, Subbarao said this week.

“The resultant larger interest rate differential may attract larger capital flows,” Subbarao said Oct. 5 in Istanbul. “What will the implications be for the exchange rate?”

Have you ever wished you were a little bit taller? Wished you were a baller? Any of you fellas wished you had a girl, who looked good, so you could call her? If you have, you can probably relate to rapper Skee Lo and his song “I Wish”. Male or female, you know you watched that video with him sitting on a bench, a la Forrest Gump, with some sense of empathy, as he envied all the tall dudes who had game and plenty of chicks, haha. The video and the song was pretty funny. And who remembers homeboy from the late 80’s group Digital Underground with the big ol fake nose and nasally voice? Lol. That song could always make you dance. One of my favorite songs from today’s list is “Someone To Love” from Jon B. I remember when this song was released everyone, including their mamas, thought that it was Babyface singing the whole time, but little did they know that an little known white boy from Rhode Island was killing the track the most of the time, lol. He’s still in constant rotation til this day with me. So please enjoy these five new(old) songs I’ve posted for you this Friday. Comment, suggest, vote and have a blessed weekend!

Rosario’s Pizza &Pub

11715 108 AVE Edmonton

People say that I am too generous with my reviews. In order to remedy this, I am gonna write about a place with very few redeeming qualities (i assure you that I can find some though).

Rosario’s is a Karaoke bar (strike one) and restaurant in north/central Edmonton. The pizza is the worst (strike two), and doesn’t deserve much of a review. In short: too much dough, thick crust, minimal cheese and sauce. Dry.

The entrance to this neighbourhood pub is guarded like it was The Ranch, but its guts look like a Boston Pizza. It also has a huge Karaoke screen with a………why am even writing about this place?!

The pizza is bad, don’t go there for that. The Karaoke is bad, don’t go there for that. The non-karaoke side of the bar looked alright with a bunch of pool tables I think (ball one).

Two strikes and a ball isn’t technically a strike-out, but this is no friendly game of baseball: this place is bad.

(Quick note: According to foodpages.ca, Rossario’s is an “UnVerified Pizza Restaurant”. )

Next post will be about a better place.

Chill Rob G – this is the classic example of song you might have missed. The drums are the highlight in this one, very original. Notice that latin percussion sound used also by Smif N Wessun and Biggie. The horn sample also is a classic one, I don’t know if they used it first here.

Jamose – Never heard it before, this one surprised me because this dude sounds like Nasty Nas! Voice and style are almost identical. Lyrics of course are simpler. Since Nas debuted on the same label, I think this is not a coincidence. Track is nice too, classic echoed-horns style when it was still fresh.

Latee – This is the one i like less but the production is well crafted, almost hypnotic with that wah wah guitar always playing background.

N Tyce – Just listen the production in this one. It’s so tight it still sounds perfect after 20 years! Listen how it starts, just listen!

Ultra – Ultramagnetics at their best.

UMCs – Perfect track, the lyrics ate bangin, the MCs’ team game is remarkable. On the production side, there’s a lot of variety here, a lot of interesting elements, I think this one has been really a landmark in the evolution of beat making. Listen the change at 2:09, I think Moby owns a lot to this. (And by the way, Moby is wack. He has always been.)

The room is full of people sitting down in circle, on red plastic chairs. A girl just finished talking, everybody is clapping their hands, she sits down. A tall guy stands up:

“Hi, everybody. My name is Arthur Jopparelli”

The people in the room reply, all together: “Hi, Arthur!”

The tall guy continues: “My problem is, I don’t listen rap music anymore”

The people: “OOOOOOOhhhhhhh!!!”

I stopped listening rap music. I never imagined that one day I’d say “Rap Sucks”. But that day has finally come. Rap sucks in 2009. I’m upset with rap. New Rick Ross sucks. New Kanye Sucks. New Premier and KRS joints, well they suck too. The only HH stuff I can still listen is classic stuff. Timeless productions, you know what i mean.

I recently bought this reissued compilation called “Wild Pitch Classics” and I decided to post it because the tracks are really a must have for every hip hop fan.

The compilation is a double vinyl, this is the first one ripped for you in his full rawness at 320kbps as usual. Why only one disc? Because eight masterpieces are more than enough! if I give you 16 in one time I’d weaken their value. Let’s keep the others for a future post.

Chill Rob G -Court Is Now In Session

This is a song you might have missed (I did). Chill Rob G was from New Jersey. He was in the Flavor Unit together with Mark The 45 King. What a strange story, this guy got a track stolen from dance act SNAP! . Remember that tune “I got the power!” ?? That was stupid. Anyway, if you ask me, the drums are the highlight in this track, very very original. Notice that latin percussion sound used also by Smif N Wessun and Biggie. The horn sample also is a classic one, I’m not sure if they were the first to use it, but they probably were.

Jamose -The Rhymtologist

Never heard it before too (and it’s no surprise because this guy apparently did only one record ), this one surprised me because dude sounds like Nasty Nas! Voice and style are almost identical. Lyrics of course are simpler. Since Nas debuted on the same label, I think this is not a coincidence. Track is nice too, an example of the classic echoed-horns style when it was still fresh.

Latee – This Cut’s Got Flavor

This is the one i like less but the production is very well crafted, almost hypnotic with that wah wah guitar sample rolling background. Latee was down with 45 king too, so this is no surprise.

Main Source – Fakin The Funk

No Comment. I’m not going to write anything on this one.

Main Source – How My Man Went Down In The Game

I like the lyrics here! A classic theme in hip hop: your man loses his head for a girl and you’re like “G’s up, hoes down!”. Everyone passed through it.

N Tyce -Hush Hush tip

Just listen the production in this one. It’s so tight it still sounds perfect after 20 years! Listen how it starts, it’s gorgeous. Production by 4th Disciple, Wu-Tang family, contains also a Method Man vocal sample.

Ultramagnetic MCs – Raise It Up

Kool Keith and friends at their best: they were already experimenting new styles and kicking new flavors back then, and he is still now. Respect.

UMCs – One To Grow On

Perfect track, the lyrics are bangin, the MCs’ team game is remarkable. On the production side, there’s a lot of variety here, a lot of interesting elements. I think this one has been really a landmark in the evolution of beat making. Listen the change at 2:09, I think Moby owns a lot to this. (And by the way, Moby is wack, and he has always been.)

The tall guy finishes his speech: “Well, that’s all, I hope you understand my issues with modern hip hop now.”

The people in the room clap their hands loud and nod heads in approvation.

The city of Gwalior is a perfect combination of Liberal arts and Humanities. There are numerous tourist attractions in Gwalior. Few of attractions in Gwalior are:

Gwalior Fort: This is a famous fort at Gwalior that had been constructed by Raja Man Singh Tomar, during the 15th Century BC. It is 35 feet high and extends for 2 miles. The structure of the Gwalior Fort is magnificent and it is worth a visit.

Sas Bahu Temples: The Sas Bahu Temple consists of two different sized temples that are placed side by side. One of the temples is bigger than the other, and perhaps for that reason, one is considered as the Mother-in-Law, while the other as the Daughter-in-Law. The temples display Indian Architecture at its peak, so that the prints are splendid and nice to look at.

Jas Vilas Palace: This is another site of tourist attraction at Gwalior. It is a kind of citadel that attracts attention for its magnificence and grandeur.

Gwalior State Archeological Museum: The museum is one of the main sources of tourist attraction because it encloses numerous architectural specimens as well as the possessions of the kings of Gwalior.

In accompaniment to this post, I hereby bring you my top 5 favourite hip-hop re-issues from over the years:

5) De La Soul – 3 Feet High & Rising (original: 1989, re-issue: 2001)

I must here admit that De La Soul aren’t a group I’ve paid too much attention over the years, as despite the enormous respect I hold for them and their steez, their style just ain’t for me. However, when Tommy Boy dropped a 2-disc edition of the heradled 3 Feet High & Rising in 2001, I sat up and paid attention, for it featured not only the original album, but no less than 14 exclusive B-sides, alternative mixes, and other tracks that had been previously available on CD.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD DE LA SOUL – 3 FEET HIGH & RISING (BONUS DISC ONLY)

4) Cormega – Special Edition (The Realness & The True Meaning) (originals: 2001 & 2002, re-issue: 2005)

‘Mega scores mad points on three counts – 1) both of these albums were always pretty solid, 2) two albums were re-issued at once, at a good price, and 3) the bonus goodies were stupendous. Featuring around a dozen bonus cuts and a whole load of multimedia video content, Special Edition was the buy of 2005, imo.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD CORMEGA – SPECIAL EDITION (BONUS CONTENT ONLY)

3) Masta Ace – Take a Look Around (original: 1990, re-issue: 2007)

The debut classic album from Ace was notoriously hard to find at a decent price for far too long, yet in 2007 it was re-issued with a bonus disc containing a dozen remixes, instrumentals, and other bonuses, some of which had become available on CD for the first time. Unfortunately, it has fell back out of print, so get it while you can

2) Main Source – Breaking Atoms (original: 1991, re-issue: 2004)

Rightly considered one of the best hip-hop albums ever, Breaking Atoms also managed to be one of the most scarely available, it being almost impossible to find cheaply in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Finally, in 2004, it was re-issued by Wild Pitch themselves, along with 7 bonus tracks, mostly consisting of alternative mixes. These bonuses were in fact pretty throwaway, the main attraction to the re-issue being that the album was available again, period. In 2008, Breaking Atoms was re-issued yet again, this time (and inexplicably) sans the bonus tracks of the 2004 outing, but still well received by hungry fans.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD MAIN SOURCE – BREAKING ATOMS (ORIGINAL, PLUS BONUSES)

1) O.C. – Word..Life/Jewelz (originals: 1994 & 1997, re-issue: 2008)

Both of these acclaimed albums by O.C. fell out of print some years ago, with Word..Life having become particularly sought-after. O.C. trumps other releases on this list for providing overall the best package – two classic albums in one set, aesthetically pleasing presentation, and tons of bonus cuts ranging from pre-Word..Life demo tracks, to relative obscurities, to later alternative mixes of miscelaneous tracks released – or not – over the years.
