On a side note…. of all the photographers that have shot Max, we love it that his NY agency, Major Model Management decided to use a self portrait that Max shot for an art project on the cover of his show card.  And its even cooler that the back of the card is shot by the  amazing Mikael Jansson for  Interview Magazine.  Thats good company to be keeping!

I have to say this was one of the more amusing shoots I have ever done. I know our lovely model, Brita, and I were having a good day. Male models are such flirts! At one point, I told the guys to look out at the camera as if they were looking at the most beautiful girl in the world, and one shouted back that he was looking at the most beautiful girl in the world. Not going to lie, made me smile.

What is more amusing is that we were shooting at a gay bar: Vlada. Awesome place, check it out! All of my boys were straight, but they still loved the attention they got from the crowd when the bar started filling up.

When they talk about the “it factor” …. this is what they mean.

Luckily there was no lasting damage and at 6am we left Time Square and by 7 I had my feet in the Atlantic, “scouting” the area.  Shooting on the beach the Thursday before a holiday weekend provided some interesting challenges, not the least of which was yet another awesome sunburn.  But at the end of the day I am proud of the work I did and the fantastic crew that I had the pleasure to work with.

Before moving to Eugene, my feelings about my modeling career were that I had a good run and had some fun / awesome moments but now it was time to focus on school and to start the next chapter in my life. After being here for over two months and learning more about the market that is the Pacific Northwest (which is mainly athletic/ outdoorsy stuff) I, with the support and urgings of Kelly, decided to set up appointments with agencies in Portland and give it a go on the West coast. (I mean I have already worked consistently in both the NYC and Miami markets, why not add Pacific Northwest and LA to the mix … yes LA’s on the table too!)

I remember when I first went down to Miami and I had meetings with all of the top agencies Ford, Elite, Next, MC2, etc… while all of them were nice and a few expressed interest, no one was as excited about me, just the way I was, as Kevin Jones at MC2. Where some people thought my edgy NYC look wouldn’t work in Miami, he thought it would be just the thing clients were looking for. Where some would have told me to grow my hair out, he told me he wanted to market me with my boy short hair and it would work! I knew that was what I needed, a total advocate for ME, just the was I was!. And it turned out, he was 100% right. I loved working in Miami and loved working with him and all of the wonderful people at MC2, until they had to hand me back over to Katia at Major NYC. (kinda wish I could have done a few more seasons in Miami… but anyway)

So my point is… Justin & Jonny at Q6 in Portland are my new Kevin. The instant I met them sparks flew (yep, just like a great first date). It was great chemistry and after a brief get to know you conversation, I felt confident that they would be the best advocates for me and my west coast endeavors.

I returned to the office today to get a few new digital polaroids taken and then head to a meeting with my first client… The Straub Collective. These guys shoot for Reebok & Addidas and even though they weren’t actually casting anything today, they took some time out of their day to meet with me which was super cool. I also found out that I have a private appointment with Nike on Tuesday of next week. Again, apparently the client is taking some time specially to see me because the Nike shows are coming up and they are interested in using me.

Looks like I’ve already got a good thing going here and if I can make some extra $$ to help pay for school then I am ready to rock and roll!

PS. Portland… way cooler than Eugene… just sayin’

for the pages of numéro homme china, jerry fu of major models is joined by philip huang of DNA models for this he & his themed editorial. vibrant colors & a poolside backdrop are seen through the lens of mei yuan as the spread is seemingly based on a gay couple. i love that numéro homme china is taking a creative approach at representing gay couples, being that many publications almost never represent male/male couples. styled by joseph carle, jerry & philip are seen with matching prada outfits & fedora caps as prints, patterns & color contrasts take center stage of the editorial. everything down to the furnishings appear as complimentary to the bold palette seen in the selected pieces & photographically, i love this editorial. numéro homme china is flourishing incredibly well from creative aspects to model castings in a short amount of time. colorfully inspiring.

Around the same time I had seen a dress that had left me speechless. It was designed by a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology and it was absolutely mesmerizing. I knew I had to shoot it somehow. I had no way of reaching her so I got her name and took a shot of the dress to remember it. I managed to track her down online (creepy huh!) and got in touch with her. She happily agreed to do the shoot and I was absolutely ecstatic. Her name is Sunghee Kim.

However, in order to shoot this dress, I needed an amazing model who could capture the essence of the dress and play a part in it. After a  grueling and headache inducing search for a girl, I finally found a model. The model ended up booking a job to my dismay but with it came a blessing in disguise: Aleksandra Semechkina. I have worked with dozens of models, but she has been one of the best. She blew me away with her movement and character.

I am so happy and lucky to have worked with these two ladies. I am so proud of this shoot. Here are some more shots I took of Aleksandra wearing a Sunghee Kim original!

shot by david roemer, max rogers appears for the january issue of GQ france. styled by samantha hughes, the editorial draws a lot of style inspiration in complete looks while allowing the pieces to be looked at singularly, thanks to contrasted tones, patterns & textures. represented by soul artist management, max showcases versatility as a much more casual male in the spread. you might recognize max from the FW10 tommy hilfiger campaign, where he was cast alongside noah mills & iselin steiro.
