In my recent Birchbox, I received a sample of Eye Rock eye tattoos.

These particular ones were 4 different variations of “cat-eye” inspired stick-ons for that hard-to-achieve “winged” eyeliner look.

They are fairly easy to use – - it’s basically a peel-and-stick situation — but, I did find it rather difficult to align with my eye shape. There’s the option to trim them once they’re on, but, let’s be honest – me, and scissors near my eyeballs; not a good idea.

I think that having a friend or makeup artist apply them would be a great idea, and, though most of the styles aren’t for everyday wear, they are pretty fun for a night out on the town, to accentuate a costume, or, if you just feel like being extra edgy and dramatic one day.

Lipstick: A Sculptural Icon.

I’m about 7 years late to this art party. It’s still amazing though and I wanted to share. This exhibit was brought to my attention in my Color Theory class where we discuss different uses of color that we come across every week and I was fascinated. The artist, Livia Marin, decided to explore the idea that every women wears down her lipstick in a different way…which is not something I have ever thought about but it’s true. Does the way we do every day things like that say something about the person we are? Curious.

Livia took 2,214 different colored lipsticks (yes, they are all different) and carved every one in a different way (yup, that is all different too!). The lipsticks were displayed on the edge of a room and the tubes were used as the base of each ‘sculpture’.

Perfectly put, ‘By transforming each individual lipstick from a standardized tool of cosmetic beauty to a curiously compelling sculptural icon, Marin capitalizes on the power that comes with re-making the ordinary into something spectacular.’ Read more here.

Royal sugar is the most awesome neon blue I have ever seen. THe eye close ups look different, becuase I used different lighting, to try to show the dimension of the shadow. One shows the color, another shows the shimmer texture. I LOVE mufe silver flash crema as a base. SOOO sparkly and luscious!

Curse you, pretty fyrinnae shimmers, for eluding my camera yet AGAIN! You’d never know it, but this look is really more of a gray-blue than a neon-blue, and it has turquoise sparkles laced throughout.

Not my usual style, and I’m still not sure that it suits my actual skin tone that well, but this pops the blue and green eyes out gorgeously, and looks great with my hair. The actual contour of it reminds me of something that Kim Kardashian would wear(if you get into celebrities makeup. I really don’t.)

Focus On is a work in progress. Have you ever talked yourself out of buying a product because the color was too odd, and you wondered how often you would really be able to use it? Or, you know those colors you LOVE because of some hidden versatility that you never imagined when you bought it? I do that ALL of the time. In the interests of loving what I HAVE, and learning its limitations, rather than relying on the influx of new colors, I will be doing this post every Saturday, focusing on a new color from my collection, with examples of past work, ideas for other uses. Please feel free to suggest colors you wish to see, or uses for the ones listed, or let me know what your favorites are for future posts.

Fyrinnae Parental Advisory is a gorgeous dark violet with tones of blue. In some lights, it looks bright blue, in others, bright violet. It has a subtle fuchsia sparkle when applied over Pixie Epoxy, or foiled.

Apply over a nonsticky pearly primer for a pastel violet

Pair it with blues to emphasize those tones.

Applied over dark pigment, it adds a blue-ish sheen.

But applied over dark cream base, it turns metallic blue-violet.

It works well paired with BRIGHT fuchsia, like Fyrinnae’s Kitten in Heels. over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy

Fyrinnae Optimism is another complex blue-violet, that Parental Adivsory works well paired with.

True-blue’s can bring out the actual purple in it.

Oranges and warm pinks also emphasize the purples.

Paired with periwinkles and reddish-violets, it looks almost ultraviolet!

Sorry about this. I had this all written, and scheduled. And not only did wordpress NOT post it, it DELETED THE CONTENT so that when I DID post it, it posted blank. I’ve had it skip posting scheduled posts before, and randomly remove images from posts after a certain period of time, but THIS is a headache.

I’m not happy to be rewriting this. It’s a PITA to completely reattach images, on my internet connection. I’m seriously on my last bit of patience with wordpress. Would anyone follow me over to blogspot?
