Para despertar atenção …cor no lábios! E o vermelho é a cor da paixão. Com o batom  vermelho na boca dá para compor um visual elegante, chique, provocante, usando o tom certo do vermelho para obter o efeito desejado que se quer causar, e fazer uma boa combinação com a cor e o estilo da roupa, é claro.

Mas muito cuidado: boca vermelha = olhos sem make forte….. Please!!!

Now that I’m becoming accustomed to, and a fan of, mineral make-up, I’m thinking about how to expand my repertoire. Enter, Lucy Minerals. Annie Languth, owner of Lucy, contacted me in an earlier post about reviewing their products. She was so kind as to send me a great batch of samples to try, including: mineral foundation, finishing powder, mineral shadows, powder liners and mineral blush. I owe Annie a big thanks(!) for being so generous and sharing samples from just about her entire line. I will be testing these out in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned for a product eval.

Also on the testing block for November/December – a new (to me) hair line. I tried out a new salon in my neighborhood this weekend and as I was just out of my Aveda Smooth Infusion shampoo and conditioner, I took the stylist’s recommendation on another product line from an Italian company called Davines. The company uses only renewable energy sources and high grade natural materials in their products. They have a lot of reading material on their website about the company philosophy (which I happen to like). I’ve never heard of Davines before, but when I look at their salon locator, I see that they are available in several known businesses around Boston and the country. Since I’ll try anything once, I’m off on my Davines test run and will report back faithfully in a few weeks!

A must have product for all, I use this as a face bronzer, blush, eye shadow and lip colour. Such a versatile product that provides a fabulous glow to the face. Great for a girl on the go, you can easily create a  ‘work to bar’ look with this. Apply over the face as a bronzer and choose your desired colour for your eyes. The shimmer brick has so many different colour strips, I also like to apply the pinky colours to my lips and then top them up with a nice glossy gloss!

Easy and simple, great product to carry in your bag to create different looks.

I’ve finally finished re-designing my website and have launched it tonight. There’s still a few more images to add… but I’m so happy – it’s finally live!

I could swear this new beauty product shop, Cypress Beauty & Co., had been on Pearl Street for only a week or so, but I was informed today they’ve been there for a good month and a half.

How I did not notice it sooner is a mystery to me, especially since there is good reason to take note. There’s no Sephora in Boulder yet, so Cypress fulfills an important need: specifically, the “my-skin-is-starting-to-feel-and-look-like-a-crocodile-now-that-it-is-winter-in-Colorado-can-you-please-help-me-brighten-it-up” need.

They stock top makeup brands like Smashbox and Cargo, as well as high-end skincare products like Dr. Brandt’s and Skinceuticals. And unlike Sephora, they actually have…sales! Woo hoo! Today they had 20% several entire product lines and the (very friendly) staff let us know that facials (they also have skin spa services) were on special today for $49.

I foresee a fun girls’ day out ahead: Stop next door at Lindsay’s for some Häagen Dazs pralines and cream, then head over for a facial and makeover at Cypress.

(Disregard the NY part above, haha – we went to the Mezzanine in SF. They travel around doing this all over the place.)

Sara told me about this and we decided to go, despite our total lack of knowledge of what exactly this event would entail. I took the opportunity to get a little bit dressed up and do some very edgy makeup.

First time I wore my new sweater dress (garage sale!), with silver American Apparel belt. Headband by Cutesaurus

Well, the event certainly was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Basically, it’s a competition in which designers go head to head in 4.5 minute “battles”, creating entire couture outfits from scratch as they go, and then a panel of judges decides the victor.

It started out with the two hosts making a dress out of umbrellas, which looked awesome but uncomfortable.

Then the competitions began. I was dazzled from the start by the sheer fun and creativity of it. No rules, just 4.5 minutes to concoct.. whatever!

Some of them were definitely waaaay out there. All of them were interesting in their own way though, and it was really fun to watch them take shape. Now I just want to like, start cutting up things and doing terrifically stylish things with them all the time.

I think there were like.. 8 rounds? I didn’t record them all, and sadly my cam sucks for pics in these situations, but I got a few of the walkoffs so you can get an idea of the general weird and wild awesomeness of it all.

This one definitely has my favorite outfit of the night, which I immediately WANTED bad, so basically now I want to make this, haha. It’s the first one in the video, the pink bodysuit (made from a hot pink sleeveless ski suit w/ legs cut off) with some silver perforated material as a jacket/wide belt, with silver streamers attached as epaulettes. If/when I ever make a music video, I know what I’ll be wearing.

However the paper dress actually won that round, to my surprise. By this point I hadn’t yet figured out the judges, who turned out to be ridiculously LAME in my opinion. They all seemed totally unenthusiastic, disdainful, and acted like they didn’t even want to be there! Like they thought it was all kind of ridiculous and dumb. Every time, without fail, they ALL chose the more conservative outfit. Anytime a designer added something really out there and strange to the look, it basically meant there was no way it would win.

Two great examples to follow. Though the weird ones are definitely WEIRD, and the winning ones were pretty darn cool.

The theme for this round was ‘Bling Dynasty’.. I thought both outfits ended up pretty cool, but the violin mask thing was pretty weird, so the judges picked the blue one (which admittedly I did like better too, haha).

This round didn’t have a theme, but I think it produced one of the craziest outfits. The dress with paper lanterns won of course, but that one is an amazing idea really well-executed, while the other one was kinda cool.. but kinda nuts. The team made a sort of  ‘dark fairy’ look using copper tubing for the wings. It seemed to be going well until they made the bold move of putting this silver metallic purse on the model’s head as a sort of helmet-hat. Kiss of death from the judges!

I wish I had better pictures of all the outfits, because it really was impressive. Oh well!

Are you tired of getting cotton pad fibers stuck in your eyes and eyelashes?

So was I. I finally found the perfect facial cotton pads for removing make-up. Shiseido’s Facial Cotton is about ten times better than your average cosmetic pads.

I guess the Japanese have a hold on cosmetics on top of their technology hold.

The Shiseido facial cotton pads are 100% cotton, are square, and are thicker and softer than the regular pads. They work very well. I definitely won’t go back to the regular kind, unless it’s just for my nails, but even then.

The Shiseido pack that I bought is a bit more expensive than the fibrous variety, but you get more in the package, and, they are simply superior.

You can buy them at Sephora or at Shoppers Drug Mart where I found them. I’m sure there are other retailers out there as well.

I’ve actually been removing my eye-makeup properly now that I have these. No more pillow case eyeliner for me!

The last few weeks have been an induction into the world of stolen images.

First of all, I was tipped off that some makeup artist had posted 4 of my images on his model mayhem profile, claiming credit for the makeup. Funny thing was, they were images I had had up for years prior to my web site redesign. I went to his page and commented on each picture and then reported each image to the MM moderators. The photographers I worked with all reported him as well. Ultimately, model mayhem deleted his profile. I was still stunned that 4 of 7 images were my work and that he was getting jobs from them.

The part I find most humorous is that they weren’t even my best work. My thoughts are if you are going to steal images, at least steal the good ones.

Then last week I received an email from a model letting me know that images from a shoot we did in Feb were in an Australian online magazine… used without the photographers permission and edited horribly. They were truly awful. I wasn’t sure I should laugh or cry and was actually grateful that I didn’t have a makeup credit.

Hi Guys and Dolls! I’m sorry it’s been so long since my last post/video, but I  have a lot of things cookin’ right now, so be prepared for a lot of stuff in the next few weeks. I love this look and I’m satisfied with how it came out, and I hope you like it as well. If you want a darker or more dramatic smoky eye, simply add more of the black, or use a starker black, like MAC’s Carbon, or NYX’s Black. I was trying to keep it light, similar to how Melinda wears in the show. It’s a fairly simple to do warm smoky eye what you can tailor make to fit your mood/skin tone/hair color/eye color.  The last pictures of the post is a few different type of bronzes and coppers.What do you think of the new site layout? I thought that the 3 column one was maybe distracting, let me know what you think!

BFTE Black (any soft black or very dark brown)

BFTE Earthy (I’m sorry, I know there is dupes, but I can’t think of one. Basically instead of these two, you could have done a dark golden brown like MAC’s Espresso, or Leather from the Kat Von D Beethoven Palette. In this post I show a few other dupes for this sort of golden brown color.

BFTE Amber  -Really, dupes for this depend on what you want, your coloring, your eye color etc. I’ve included some pictures at the bottom of this post with some colors that would all work for this purpose. Not necessarily “dupes” but colors that serve the same/similar purpose. A simple guideline is if you have green eyes red toned coppers will work for you, Brown eyes work well with yellow bronze-golds,  pink-coppers and also cool bronzes, and Blue eyes pop with any yellow or orange based-bronze or gold.  Hair color and skin color also play a role, & I’m a big fan of making your own rules, and wearing what you like.

MAC Blanc Type

Migi Velvet Liner (this is a liquid liner pen. it’s like drawing on your eyeliner with a VERY fine tipped marker. several companies make eyeliners like this, a few that come to mind are MAC, Cargo, and L’oreal (I think). Really any liquid eyeliner you like is fine, some people like pen ones, some like gel-liners & cake-liners you apply with a brush, some prefer the felt tip types like L’oreal Liner Intense)

A black eyeliner for the waterline: I prefer waterproof eyeliners in my waterline because they last longer, and they set quickly, so they don’t ruin my contacts. three I love are MAC’s Technakohl, Sephora’s waterproof Retractable Liner, and Urban Decay’s 24/7 Liners.

Okay, so here’s my first real post: A list of stores I visit at the local mall every week, just to see what I can add to my want or need list!  Kind of weird and compulsive maybe, but I find it strangely relaxing.  So, my list is…

• MAC – The Pro Store and the counter at The Bay… If I don’t visit both, I feel like I’m cheating on the other.
• Banana Republic – I love their clothes, but rarely ever have a place to wear them.  I mostly buy jewelry from here.
• Aldo Accessories – I only buy the most fabulous rings and earrings from here.  You know, the huge, magnificent kind.  Sometimes I like their studs.
• Aritzia – For the clothes.  If you don’t have an Aritzia or know what it is, check out the link.  Amazing!
• Nine West – For purses and flats.  Love them!
