THE LUNATIC OF NARANATH

 There is a book titled ‘THE LEGENDS OF KERALA’. In one story a wandering Brahmin called Vararuchi takes a tribal woman with him and she bore twelve children by him. As soon as a child is born, she is told to leave it by the wayside and they proceed on. To the question: how it will survive, the Brahmin would say: if it has a mouth ,it would be fed; do not look back.   

 The first baby was brought up by a Namboodiri family (Mezhathol Agnihotry-the family is still there) and he became a Namboodiri. Another was a famous carpenter – Perunthachan. Among the rest was the lunatic of Naranath who captivated me as a singular personality.

 Like his father, he was a wanderer. At night he would rest in a smashan, where dead bodies are burnt. Not to waste the fire, he cooked rice there. In a cool night, enjoying the warmth of the fire, he slept soundly after a day of continuous wandering.

 That night, Bhadrakali, during her nocturnal trip, was surprised to find a human being and was naturally curious. In spite of her fierce shouts, she failed to rouse the stranger. Somehow he woke up and shouted back, Who is this mad woman? The Goddess was immensely pleased with the sheer daring of the man and wanted to bestow a boon; but the man refused, saying he would accept no favours either from man or God. For both it became a prestige issue. At last, the man relented. He said: I have elephant-foot on my left side; you may transfer it to my right side!

 It was his pastime to roll a stone up the hill and throw it down. Watching it tumble down, he claps his hands and laughs. The hill, supposed to be his favourite haunt, is near Shoranur. On the first day of the Malayalam month of Thulam, thousands of pilgrims go up the hill. `I had been there a couple of times. It rains and the path is dangerously slippery. Yet, I enjoyed it.

 I am mad. How else can I dare to write such fantastic nonsense? A lunatic is free of all inhibitions. He sees Nature as God made it. He does not worry about what is written in the text book. The greatest book is Nature. READ IT CAREFULLY without missing the punctuation. Accurate observation and logical thinking are the two pillars of knowledge. Science is nothing but the search for TRUTH.

 I welcome criticism-merciless and incisive analysis.

Criminal justice sytem

 The words crime, punishment, criminal etc. were coined in the feudal era. At the time of the the capitalist revolution in France ( 177 5 ), when wooly-eyed writers and intellectuals took it as the true revolution ,words like liberty, fraternity and equality came into vogue. Victor Hugo’s Le Mirable  for the first time, made us aware of the fact that  a thief is also a human being. Alas! We have forgotten Hugo. Is  his name mentioned in any text book?

No wonder. It is highly inconvenient to mention his name, now that money is the supreme deity (in Malayalam the word for a billionaire is KODEESWARAN !). How else can we explain public linching of a poor harijan boy in front of TV cameras? If we claim to be humanists, we should have intervened to save the poor boy. Let us re-read Hugo. The word criminal must be deleted from dictionary.

We are all fallible. I used to travel in DTC bus, paying the minimum fare, until I was caught. Did I earn money this way? It is just human tendency to enjoy any gain, howsoever pitifully trivial it may be! Yet I am not a miser. We have to continuously improve our own thinking, attitude, outlook and behaviour. (To thine own conscience, be true). The system should help us to become a true gentleman, in every sense of the term! Wash away the criminal in me. Lockup, police brutality and the jail will only make me a hardened criminal. Parents and teachers have empowered themselves to beat a child whose sole parent is God. Will He be happy with our conduct?

A pick pocket or smuggler is let away with light punishment. Their patrons are in the good books of the police. Does the system have any way of reforming a criminal? The latter is just a tool .There is no law for punishing the real villain who works behind the scene. This aspect has to be taken care of.

In the proposed set up, a team of dedicated people will conduct a thorough probe into all aspects of even a petty crime and recommend measures to eradicate it forever. If only an individual is concerned, he can be given work of cleaning the gutter, removing garbage or some such useful work. Jails can be converted into schools. Hardened criminals  can be chained like slaves and made to work hard.

The investigating team should be headed by a judge (A retired one may be preferred).

The members of the team must be well trained, thoroughly honest and dedicated. The whole department could be under the control of the Chief Justice of India and function independently, without interference from any quarter. All proceedings must be video recorded, but the proceedings must be  in camera, lest others involved may know what is happening and arm themselves accordingly. The culprit shall remain in humane custody. No bail, even if the crime is trivial. The whole lot of lawyers should be asked to go home and tend cattle!

At present they work only to distort or delay the investigation and save the culprit for the sake of money. How do we tolerate this brazen miscarriage of justice?

APPOINTMENTMENT OF JUDGES

Like the election commission, there shall be a permanent judicial commission. Appointment of judges will follow the same pattern as that of MPs (see Democratic Disfunction).T he judges too should work hard from 8 am to 6 pm every day, with weekly holiday by rotation; but they will get suitable salary because they are not elected by the people.

Even a shadow of suspicion shall debar him .Once appointed, he should work for life time, without any age limit, so long as he is healthy and willing to work .Transfer and promotion etc. must also be decided by the commission.

They may be removed any moment, if proved to be incompetent or unhealthy or on grounds for suspicion; otherwise they can serve indefinitely as in the US.(Their system is better in all respects. If their system is a motor car, ours is a bullock cart, with one wheel broken and the animal unable to pull !)

Any person, not necessarily an aggrieved one, on the basis of news ,a first information report may be lodged even by e:mail  The concerned judge shall immediately start investigation ,assisted by CIDs, police etc., but in strict secrecy .Any person may be arrested, including witnesses who shall remain in custody till investigation is over.The people detained must not be allowed to meet each other. All questioning shall be video recorded in the presence of the judge. Refusal to answer a question will be treated as confession .

The judgement shall be given then and there .

The whole system must function independently, without  interference from any quarter. Nobody will even come to know ; how can they meddle ?

The policemen must be like elder brothers to the citizens, in the model of the English police.

When my niece in the US designed a blog for me, I never imagined that any body will read what I have written. There are millions of bloggers. Celebrity blogs are sure to be viewed, but an unknown person like me, will not attract attention.

My essay on Malayalam Panchang changed the perspective.

It is always receiving attention. I was surprised.

Now, I know that there is a certain relationship developing between us. I miss you when I am not able to reach you, as when I go on tour or due to some technical snag, as happened yesterday.

ന്യൂസിലാന്‍ഡിലേക്ക് വരുമ്പോള്‍ എന്നെ അലട്ടിയത് ഇവിടത്തെ മലയാളികളെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഭയമായിരുന്നു, ഫ്രാന്‍സില്‍ ഇല്ലാതിരുന്ന -മലയാളികള്‍ എന്ന- പുതിയൊരു വെല്ലുവിളി ഇവിടെ നേരിടാന്‍ പോകുകയാണ്. എന്‍റെ മുന്‍പില്‍ രണ്ടേ രണ്ടു ഓപ്ഷന്‍ മാത്രം, ഒന്നുകില്‍ കാനഡ അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ ന്യൂസിലാന്ഡ്, രണ്ടും മലയാളികളാല്‍ സമൃദ്ധം, തമ്മില്‍ ഭേദം തൊമ്മന്‍ എന്ന നിലക്കാണ് കിവിനാടു തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തത്. അതെ കേരളമാകുന്ന വറ ചട്ടിയില്‍ നിന്നും എരിതീയിലേക്കുള്ള ഒരു മാറ്റം. ആ എരിതീയില്‍ എണ്ണയോഴിക്കുന്ന നിലക്കായിരുന്നു എന്‍റെ ആശാന്റെ ഒരു ഇമെയില്‍ വന്നത്. ആള്‍ ജര്‍മ്മനിയിലാണ്, എന്നെ എയര്‍പോര്‍ട്ടില്‍ സ്വീകരിക്കാന്‍ എന്‍റെ നാട്ടില്‍ നിന്നുമുള്ള ആശാന്റെ ഒരു ശിങ്കിടിയെ അയക്കാമെന്നും! അന്നുമുതല്‍ ദുസ്വപ്നം കണ്ടിരുന്നത്‌ എന്നെ കൂട്ടാന്‍ വരുന്ന മലയാളിയുടെ ഭീകര രൂപമായിരുന്നു.

എല്ലാ സ്വപ്നങ്ങളും യാഥാര്‍ത്ഥ്യം ആകണമെന്നില്ലല്ലോ, എന്‍റെ പ്രതീക്ഷക്കൊത്ത ഒരു മലയാളിയെയും ഇന്നേ വരെ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല. കഴിയുന്ന ഉപകാരമാല്ലാതെ പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ച ഒരു ഉപദ്രവവും എനിക്ക് ഇതുവരെ കിട്ടിയിട്ടില്ല. പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് എന്നെ കൂട്ടാന്‍ വന്ന ആ ഭീകരനില്‍ നിന്നും. എന്തായിരുന്നു എന്‍റെ പ്രതീക്ഷകള്‍ എന്ന് വച്ചാല്‍, പട്ടി തൊഴുത്തില്‍ കിടന്ന പോലെ, തിന്നുകയുമില്ല തീട്ടിച്ചുകയുമില്ല എന്ന മനോഭാവം! – കിവി ഫ്രൂട്ട് തിന്നു തിന്നു ഇവിടത്തെ മലയാളികളുടെ ചക്കവിളഞ്ഞില് ‍(ചക്കയുടെ പശ) പോലോത്ത ആ സ്വഭാവം മൊത്തം മാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

നന്നായി ഒരു ഓണത്തല്ല് കൂടാന്‍ പോലും ഇവിടത്തെ മലയാളികള്‍ക്ക് അറിയില്ല, നാട്ടിലാണേല്‍ ഒന്നുമില്ലേല്‍ പുതുതായി വല്ല കാരണവും അതിനായി നമ്മള്‍ ഗവേഷണം നടത്തി ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരിക്കുമല്ലോ. നാട്ടിലെ ഒരു ഓണം കഴിഞ്ഞുള്ള ഒത്തു കൂടല്‍ ഓര്‍മ്മ വരുന്നു. ഒരു തല്ലിനുള്ള വകുപ്പ് ഒത്തു വരില്ല എന്ന് കണ്ടപ്പോള്‍ ഒരാള്‍ ഒരു കാരണം കണ്ടെത്തി – അമ്മാവന് കൊടുത്ത നേന്ത്രപ്പഴം അല്പം വളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു, പോരെ പൂരം യാരെടാ വലിയമ്മാവന് വളഞ്ഞ പഴം കൊടുത്തത് എന്നും പറഞ്ഞു തല്ലു തുടങ്ങി, ഇത് നാട്ടിലെ കഥ. ഇവന്മാര്‍ക്ക് എന്ത് ഓണതല്ല്? വെറുതെ മൂക്കറ്റം ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു വയറില്‍ സ്ഥലം ബാക്കിയുണ്ടേല്‍ അവിടെ മദ്യം വച്ച് ഫില്‍ ആക്കി അത് ദഹിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ അല്പം ഡാന്‍സും കളിച്ചു വാളും പരിചയും വച്ച് കീഴടങ്ങി നാലുകാലില്‍ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോകും അത്ര മാത്രം. ആ തിരിച്ചു പോക്കില്‍ ഡ്രൈവിംഗ് സ്ത്രീകളുടെ ഡ്യൂട്ടിയാണ് അല്ലേല്‍ ‘മോട്ടോര്‍വേ’ക്ക് വീതി പോര എന്ന തോന്നലാവും.

ഇന്നലെ അല്പം മലയാളി ഭീകരരുമായി ഒരു ഡിന്നര്‍ കഴിച്ചു, ഫുഡ്‌നെ പറ്റി തല്‍ക്കാലം ഞാന്‍ ഒന്നും പറയുന്നില്ല, കാരണം, ഒരു ഭീകരന്‍ എന്‍റെ മുന്നില്‍ ചാടിക്കയറി എന്‍റെ ഷെയര്‍ കൂടി പേ-ചെയ്തു കളഞ്ഞു. എന്ത് ചെയ്യാന്‍ . ബസില്‍ കയറിയാല്‍ നമ്മുടെ കാശ് വേറൊരാള്‍ കൊടുക്കും പോലെ എനിക്ക് ദഹിക്കാത്ത കാര്യമാണ് വേറെ ആളുടെ ചിലവിലുള്ള ഫുഡും (ഇതും ഒരു ആഘോഷതിനിടക്ക് കിട്ടുന്ന ഫ്രീ ഫുഡും രണ്ടാണല്ലോ). എന്‍റെ ഉപ്പ പറയുന്ന ഒരു കാര്യമുണ്ട് — അയല്‍പക്കത്തെ ഒരു ഊണ്‍ അത്യാവശ്യ ഘട്ടത്തിലേക്ക് മാറ്റി വെക്കണം, ഒരിക്കലും കഴിക്കരുത്. അത്തരം ഒരു ഊണ്‍ ആണ് ഞാന്‍ ഒരു മണിക്കൂര്‍ കൊണ്ട് കഴിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. എങ്കിലും പതിനായിരക്കണക്കിനു മൈല്‍സ് ഇപ്പുറം സ്വന്തം അനുജനെ പോലെ നമ്മെ ഒരാള്‍ കണ്ടു എന്നതില്‍ സന്തോഷത്തിനുള്ള വകയുണ്ട് അത് വിലമതിക്കാനാവാത്ത ഒരു അനുഭവമാണ്. ഇനി ഇത്തരം കാര്യുങ്ങള്‍ ആവര്‍ത്തിക്കില്ലെന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

ശാപ്പടിന്റെ ബില്ലില്‍ എന്തൊക്കെയോ പിശക് – മലയാളികള്‍ ഹിന്ദിയില്‍ കുറെ ഹേ..ഹൂം ..ഹം എന്നൊക്കെ ഗൂര്‍ക്ക സ്റ്റൈലില്‍ പറഞ്ഞു നോക്കി – നോ രക്ഷ. പക്ഷെ ദില്ലിക്കാരിയായ സുധാമ്മ നാല് ഹിന്ദി വച്ച് കാച്ചിയപ്പോള്‍ എല്ലാം ശുഭം. അതെ ഇവിടുത്തെ മലയാളികള്‍ തീരെ അധപതിചിരിക്കുന്നു. വന്നു വന്നു സാദാരണ ഹിന്ദിക്കാര്‍ക്കടക്കം മലയാളികളെ പറ്റിക്കാം എന്ന സ്ഥിതി ആയി. അതാണ്‌ ഞാന്‍ ആദ്യമേ പറഞ്ഞത് ഇവിടത്തെ മലയാളികള്‍ക്ക് തട്ടിപ്പ്, വെട്ടിപ്പ്, പാര തുടങ്ങി കേരളീയ കലകളൊന്നും അറിയില്ലെന്ന്. അതൊക്കെ ഇവിടെ ഉത്ഘാടനം ചെയ്യാന്‍ മലയാളിയായ മന്ത്രിമാര്‍. അവര്‍ക്ക് ടൈം ഇല്ലെങ്കില്‍ കുറഞ്ഞത്‌ ഒരു MLA എങ്കിലും വന്നിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ എന്ന് ഒരു വേള ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു പോകുന്നു.

ഭക്ഷണം കഴിഞ്ഞു തിരിച്ചു വരുമ്പോള്‍ തോമാച്ചന്റെ പുതിയ വീട് ഒന്ന് കണ്ടു കളയാമെന്നു കരുതി എലാരും അവിടെ പോയി നല്ല ഒരു കാപ്പിയും ഗുലാബ് ജമൂനും ഒക്കെ അടിച്ചു. ഒപ്പം വീട് അടിപൊളിയാണ്, നല്ല സെലെക്ഷന്‍ ആണ് എന്നൊക്കെ പറഞ്ഞു തോമാച്ചനെ സുഗിപ്പിച്ചു (സത്യത്തില്‍ ഈ വീട് നല്ല വീട് തന്നെയാ, എനിക്ക് നന്നായി ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു, തോമാച്ചന്റെയും സുധാമ്മയുറെയും നല്ല മനസ്സിന് ദൈവം കൊടുത്ത ഗിഫ്റ്റ്). പക്ഷെ മോശം വീടായാലും ആരും മോശമെന്ന് പറയില്ലല്ലോ.

ആ അത് പറഞ്ഞപ്പോഴാ ഒരു കാര്യം ഓര്‍മ്മ വന്നത്, കണ്ടതിനെയെല്ലാം കുറ്റം പറയുന്ന ഒരാള്‍ എന്‍റെ നാട്ടില്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഏത് പുതിയ വീട്ടില്‍ പോയാലും അതിന്റെ വല്ല കുറ്റവും കണ്ടു പിടിക്കും…ഒരു ദിവസം നാട്ടിലെ വളരെ വലിയതും ഒരു കുറ്റവും കാണാന്‍ പറ്റാത്തതുമായ ഒരു വീട്ടില്‍ ആള്‍ സന്ദര്‍ശിച്ചു. അയാള്‍ എന്ത് പറയുന്നു എന്നറിയാന്‍ ഞാന്‍ ചെവി വട്ടം പിടിച്ചു അയാളെ ഒപ്പം കൂടി – ഇറങ്ങുമ്പോള്‍ അയാള്‍ പറയുകയാ.. വീടൊക്കെ കൊള്ളാം പക്ഷെ ഇതിനു ഒരു കുഴപ്പമുണ്ട്, പൊളിക്കുന്ന കാലത്ത് ഒരു പാടു കാശ് ചിലവാക്കേണ്ടി വരിഉല്ലെ ഇത് മൊത്തം പോളിചെടുക്കാന്‍ ?

We have to understand the geographical features of our continent, about 5000 yeas ago, to understand what happened at that time.

 The Himalayas have been growing up all the while, and it is safe to assume that in those days, travellers could easily cross the region either way. The sentimental attachment of Hindus, towards Kailash and Manasarover is proof of my statement. If we have not seen the place, there will be no love for it. The description of the area as a green forest, in the Bhagavat Puran too confirms this view. Therefore, migration of people across the Himalayas is a distict possibility.

 The most intimate charactoristic of a people, is their language. Early Aryans had Samskrutam as their mother tongue. If today it is a dead language, it is because, those people were in a minority and were forced by circumstances, to forget it and use whatever was the language of the people, among whom they lived. The fact that European Aryans do not know vedas, shows that, they migrated before we composed vedic sutras. 

My children do not know Malayalam. Of course, they can talk in our language. Talking is not literature. To write in Malayalam, it is necessary to learn the script. So Aryans in India, forced their children to learn Samskrutam, in order to preserve their heritage and identity. Their early literature was the Vedas which, enen now, we learn by heart. All debates and writings were in Samskrutam. A poet who wrote in Malayalam was rediculed as half poet !

The Aryans who migrated towards the north and north west, were not so lucky, as we were in India.The fact that several Samskrutam words are transformed into the local language of the area only proves the Aryan ancestry of these people. Maximum similarity is in Hindi, even spoken Hindi. Samskrutham     Hindi            English

Russian and German languages have many Samskrutam words. It was a German scholar who wrote Malayalam grammar!

 During second world war, a German scholar  met the King of Cochin, who was a scholar in Samskrutam, They started chit chatting in Samskrutam; the English Resident was scared. The King was asked to abdicate.

 Those Aryans who migrated to the peninsular India, accepted the local language, but continued to patronise Samskkrutam ,as there were no books in local languages.  Thus the conclusion is inevitable. Aryan migration is from India towards Europe. Why they did not go towards Tibet and China, is a mystery.

Sexual contact with the local people was inevitable. Hence, the Aryan features are dimmed and local charactoristics became prominent.

 Theoretically, we may say that north Indians are Aryans and others are non Aryans. In this, we ignore the people living in the hills, including the north east.

Davidians are a mystery. Unlike others, they have body hair, jet black complexion, teeth pushing the lips outwards, heavy jaws and stocky, short body. There is not a single Samskrutam word in Tamil which has only 26 letters. Malayalam too had no Samskrutam words. The numbers onnu, randu, moonnu, nalu, anchu, aru, ezhu, ettu, onpathu and pathu (one to ten) of Malayalam can be understood by people of all states in the south. It is a proof that Dravidian people are a distinct group. They are even earlier than the civilisation of the north.

Hanuman was impressed bythe grandeur of the Lankan capital, which seemed to be paradise in this world!

 Tamil literature was highly developed, even before English education spread in the country.

 Every day we read about new archeological discoveries in Tamilnadu.

THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION
There are people resemling one another, at least seven according to sources.

If survival is the aim of evolution, plancktons, grass and cockroaches are better evolved than mammals, many species of wich have been totally wiped off from the earth. Man is extremely vulnerable.
If the resmblance in behavior is studied, asian elephants are much more similar to us, than the chimpanzee. It was in the news that a female elephant, of a circus company, was eloped by a wild elephant. Savitry, the circus elephant, returned after some months in the forest, carrying a baby in its woumb! Did they love each other as cildren, before Savitry was caught by men? Otherwise why did its lover pick her for mating?
 My father used to tell us about an elephant which could write 51 letters of Malayalam in sand, using a stick.

 Man is envious. Other creatures exploit species, different from their own. Man exploits his own brothers, making them slaves either directly or by giving wages.
Today, he is making a large number of nulear power plants, without a thought about future generations, who will curse us, after we have left the scene.

I found chemistry written as kemistry, electron written as elektron in the web site of a Danish university. Why didn’t the Americans do so. They have cahanged many English spellings.

पुरा केरले तोलः नामकः एकः अनुगृहीतः कवि आसीत्। मलयालभाषायां संस्कृते च बहूनि नाटकानि एवं काव्यानि तेन रचितानि। परन्तु केरलीयाः अद्य प्रायशः तस्य सरसश्लोकान्येव स्मरन्ति। तेषामेकः सरसश्लोकः अत्र दीयते।

उत्तिष्ठोत्तिष्ठ राजेन्द्र मुखं प्रक्षालयस्व टः।
एष आह्वयते कुक्कुः च वै तु हि च वे तु हि॥

अस्मिन् श्लोके द्वितीयपादे टः शब्दः, तृतीये पादे “कुक्कुः”, पूर्णः अन्तिमपादश्च अवगन्तुं किंचित् क्लेशः स्यात्। बहुशः संस्कृतकवयः श्लोकेषु अन्वयक्रमं विना एकस्यैव वाक्यस्य पदान् विविधपादेषु प्रयुज्यन्ति। एतत् तोलकवये न रोचते। तस्य मतानुसारेण यदि एकस्य वाक्यस्य विविधान् पदान् श्लोकस्य विभिन्न पादेषु प्रयोक्तुं शक्यते चेत् एकस्य पदस्य विभिन्नान् शब्दानपि भिन्नपंक्तिषु किमर्थं न लिखितव्यम्? एतत् प्रमाणयितुं तेन कुक्कुटपदं विभज्य पृथक् पंक्तयोः लिखितम्।

प्रायशः कवयः श्लोकेषु चकारादीनां अव्ययानां अत्र तत्र वृथा प्रयोगं कुर्वन्ति। तस्योपसार्थं तेन चकारादीनि अव्ययानि एकत्र अन्तिम पादे उपयोक्तानि – च वै तु हि च वे तु हि।

अतः श्लोकस्य भावार्थः एवमस्ति – “हे राजेन्द्र, उत्तिष्ठ उत्तिष्ठ, मुखं प्रक्षालयस्व। एषः कुक्कुटः आह्वयते” इति॥
