Last week’s premiere of the new season of Project Runway brought home the bacon for Lifetime. Apparently it had killer ratings for Lifetime with 4.2 million total viewers and the biggest premiere in the show’s history. Although the challenge was kinda blah, it was good to see the show return with it’s familiar format intact. This week’s challenge involved creating an outfit for the guest judge du jour, everyone’s favorite post-op tranny from Ugly Betty, Rebecca Romijn.

And since becky lettuce was knocked up with Jerry O’Connell’s behbies at the time, the challenge was a Pregnancy wear challenge. The outfit could be for any event, casual to formal, as long as it was form-fitting and chic. I’m surprised they haven’t already done a challenge like this for Heidi, since she is always pregnant. I gotta say I was not crazy about this week’s challenge again, there was no real twist or flair, besides the big belly. They could have had to make it out of unconventional materials like melted baby doll heads or stale bread or something. But it’s only episode 2, I’m sure there be plenty of wacky challenges to come.

The herd still needs to be thinned some more, and the weakest weeded out. There are just too many designers to pick a favorite yet. Well that’s a big lie I already have a favorite ♥♥♥! However there isn’t much drama behind the scenes or at the apartments. Everyone seems to be getting along, there is no defined villain or smack talk. mwomp mwomp. The designers get to work on their designs and everything is going boringly normal until we see Malvin’s design concept.

His concept was “bird nest”/”mother hen” with the belly symbolizing an egg?? Me thinks the concept of bird nest came from that hot mess of a haircut. But I shouldn’t be so mean, Malvin is actually a pretty quiet and a nice guy on the show. He reminds me of Miss Diana from Season 2.  But his concept was very bizarre. Tim tried to bring him down to reality by nixing the “chicken thighs” pants but alas it was all in Vien (ha ha get it, that’s Malvin’s last name….you don’t, ugh whatever).  There was also another design that I thought was not aesthetically pleasing.

"Make it wor....hmmm...Ra'mon it sucks."

Ra’mon-Lawrence’s maternity cocktail dress was kind of a hot mess. Those gray cutouts on the sides reminded me of the designs on athletic shoes. Ra’mon-Lawrence Ramen noodles was very proud of his design though, he even thought he was the front-runner to win for that week. Something interesting happened in the workroom this week. Someone was hammering away at something at their work station and when Ramen noodles heard it he referenced Stella and her “leathuh” from season 5.  I kinda hate when contestants are too self-aware and reference seasons past. That’s the viewer’s job! Just as it was annoying when Blayne last season tried to make “licious” happen.  You are off the hook this time ramen noodles but no more meta references!

Louise ☆

Louise was a judges favorite even though they said it was a little too lingerie. Luckily that’s how becky lettuce rolls because she liked it tons. I guess that’s what a pregnant lady would wear if she wants to get some.

Ra’mon-Lawrence ★

Oh ramen noodles. I have already previously explained my disdain for this dress but the finished look was so not pretty. the color choice in fabric and the gray cutouts. ugh. An athletic cocktail dress?? Becky said it best when she described it as looking like a “bowling ball bag”.  That’s an insult to bowling ball bags though. Ya betta shape up ramen noodles!

Althea ☆☆

Everyone loooved Althea’s look. It was a very elegant evening gown. The only unanimous complaint were the cups on the bust, they were too small. The model’s boobs were ready to quit that bitch and let it all hang out. She would have probably won if it wasn’t for that single detail.

Mitchell ★★

Mitchell, Mitchell, Mitchell. Boy can’t catch a break. He was in the bottom 2 last week (deservedly so) for sending out a sheer snuggie and this week the judges were ready to axe him again. They weren’t happy with the shorts at all, Nina wasn’t having it. Heidi called it a “pregnant mess” and Miz lettuce said it had an execution problem. It’s more of a Britney Spears look in my opinion. You can just see her walk into a Starbucks and order 10 fraps and a bag of cheetos.

Shirin ☆☆☆ {Winner}

Shirin was this week’s winner and wowed all of the judges with her design. The detail in the empire waist was something that was a favorite as well as her jacket. It looks very simple and chic at the same time. It was a very meticulous garment but the execution made it seem effortless. I don’t remember Shirin from last week but she may be someone to look out for in the future.

Malvin ★★★ {Auf’d}

Why did the chicken cross the runway? To get murdered by Nina Garcia! None of the judges really understood Malvin’s concept and were not amused with the results. It was too bizarre for them. Nina described it as sling. Although they did like the subtle detail of little black feathers lining the top of the bust. Unfortunately this was Malvin’s swan song (he he). The mother hen was more of an ugly duckling. I gotta say they got rid of the more out there/bizarre designers this season rather quickly. And Mitchell has been in the bottom two for the 2nd week in a row. He better watch out, Nina is out for bloooood!
