DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A man was struck and killed by a DART train Thursday evening.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. near the Trinity River Bridge.

“The operator was pulling the train into the yard and apparently did not see the person who was walking on the tracks,” DART spokesman Morgan Lyons explained. “The person was walking on the tracks north of the 8th and Corinth Station… and was struck and killed by the train.”

The man who was killed ha snot been identified.

There were no passengers on the train was the incident happened.

Sheriff’s deputies said in a statement that attack in the 400 block of West Palm Street occurred around 9:25 p.m. on Saturday.

The victim was pronounced dead at an area hospital and four individuals were detained, authorities said.

The incident occurred the 6400 block of Brynhurst Avenue.

The victims, both believed to be in their 20s, were standing in front of a home when police say two men walked up and opened fire.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was taken to an area hospital in unknown condition.

As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests have been made and no names released.

An investigation was under way. It wasn’t immediately clear if the attack was gang-related.

In a Thursday release, LA police say the pedestrian was struck by the first vehicle, a silver Pontiac Grand Am, at about 1:50 a.m. on Sunday.

The driver left the injured pedestrian on Central Avenue.

Moments later, a green Chevrolet Suburban ran over the victim while he was still lying in the street.

The victim was dragged nearly 200 feet under the Suburban.

Police say both incidents were captured on surveillance video.

Police are looking for the vehicle’s drivers. No arrests have been made.

The man was struck about 9:40 a.m. in the northbound lanes at 83rd Street.

It is unknown why the man, who was pronounced dead on the scene, was on the expressway.

The three right northbound lanes and the 83rd Street entrance ramp to the expressway were closed as of 10:30 a.m.

Further details were not immediately available.

BOXFORD (CBS) – State police are trying to figure out why a man exited a moving car to his death on Interstate 95 in Boxford, but they say foul play is not suspected.

31-year-old Derin McWilliams of Lynn was in Nissan Maxima on 95 north at about 11: 40 p.m. Tuesday with a woman and two children, when, for some unexplained reason, he ended up out on the road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, which is just north of exit 52.

Police did not say whether he jumped, fell or was pushed.

However, the woman, who is said to be McWilliams’s wife, kept driving.

Police caught up to her in Somerville and brought her and the children in for questioning.

They were treated as witnesses and released early Wednesday morning.

Any charges in McWilliams’s death would have to come from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, but, so far, it appears they believe this was an accident.

SAN BERNARDINO (CBS) — A 19-year-old man was gunned down early Tuesday morning while visiting a memorial where his friend was shot and killed.

Greg Gonzales was killed in the 200 block of South Lenore Avenue near Congress in San Bernardino.

Gonzales’ homicide marks the twelfth this month in this city.

“The suspects have been arrested in five of those so far,” said Capt. Gwen Waters of the San Bernardino Police Department.

Police say the May murders have one or two common threads – drugs and/or gangs.

Police tell Greg Mills, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, that Gonzales was not in a gang and arrested 21-year-old Esequiel Cisneros of Rialto on suspicion of murder.

Authorities say they do not believe that the general populace in San Bernardino is in imminent danger.

“So as long as they are looking out for themselves and making good choices, the pattern has shown that their probably pretty safe,” Waters added.

FONTANA (CBS) — A 58-year-old man was killed in a collision involving a Fontana police squad car.

The crash occurred about 10:05 p.m. Saturday at Juniper Avenue and Ceres Avenue.

The deceased was identified by the coroner as Davidalia “Jose” Landaverde of Fontana. Initial reports said he was 62.

Landaverde was reportedly traveling west on Ceres when  witnesses said a marked city patrol car going east slammed into him broadside.

Landaverde was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center where he was declared dead about 11:35 p.m., authorities said.

An investigation was under way.

Neighbors told CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Jeff Nguyen that Landaverde just bought his car, a silver Honda Civic, a few months ago.

Two other people were reportedly injured in the crash. It is unclear if his wife is one of the injured.

The two injured passengers, including Olga Mayorga, 80, a resident of Guatemala, were transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. According to Fontana police, the extent of their injuries is unknown.

Sandra Aguilar, who lives near the crash scene, said she heard the collision. “It sounded like a big boom. No brakes, no nothing. And we didn’t hear a police siren.”

Neighbor Ramon Limon called Landaverde’s death “a big loss for the neighborhood…for his family, for everybody.” He added, “He was a working guy. Early in the morning, when I wake up, he’s already in his truck ready to leave.”

The deceased worked in construction, according to neighbors. His wife runs a daycare out of their home.

Nguyen reports police have also not announced the condition of the officer involved in the crash.

Neighbors, according to Nguyen’s report, have been complaining about the intersection for years. Another crash there two years ago, also involving a police vehicle, took out a home’s retaining wall.

Aguilar said, “We’ve been asking for a light there for some time.”

Fontana police Sunday said the officer who was involved in the crash was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released several hours later.

The name of the officer was not released.

Tailor, Dinesh Jinger was shot dead in his shop in Vadi area of Vadodara. Two people fired three rounds of fire at 11am in the morning. Family members of the victim rushed to the shop and took him to police station where doctors declared him dead. Family members accused that this is done by a local bootlegger who lives in the same area. Dinesh and the bootlegger had a scuffle before some days.
However, poor security and safety by the police is seen in the way the accused shot Dinesh in bright day light and managed to run away as well.

BEL AIR (CBS) —  LA City firefighters tried to rescue a trapped 27-year-old construction worker Thursday after the man apparently was buried in an eight-foot deep trench in Bel Air Estates.

Brian Humphrey of city fire says the worker was covered by at least three feet of dirt.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., officials said the rescue operation was being declared a “recovery” indication indicating the worker had died.

The man was reportedly working on a home (reportedly worth $5 million) near Benedict Canyon.

The collapse was reported just after 3:30 p.m. at a home in the 1200 block of North Benedict Canyon Drive.

Humphrey said about 75 firefighters were dispatched to the scene including a search-and-rescue team.

Suraya Fadel, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, says the team spent hours methodically recovering the body of the construction worker.

Beverly Hills Fire Department Battalion Chief Ralph Mundell said, “We do this step by step. We had a vacuum truck to remove some of the dirt and shore up the trench as we go.”

The unidentified man was reportedly a native of Guatemala. Fadel says the man was covered in tons of dirt and materials.

The homeowners and their attorney would not talk on camera.

It is not immediately known what kind of construction work was being done or what caused the trench to collapse.

CAL/OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is investigating.

Fadel said they are trying to determine if there was any criminal negligence or if the on-site tragedy is strictly accidental.

Rogelio Mejia says he and several co-workers watched helplessly as the dirt caved in on their friend and co-worker as he screamed for help.

Mejia told Fadel the crew was hired by the homeowners to do an extensive renovation of the backyard and had been on the job for about a month.

The man was pushing a bicycle east on the tracks over a trestle spanning the San Gabriel River when he was hit at about 4:50 p.m. Saturday, a sheriff’s deputy said.

The conductor of the Union Pacific train saw the man and sounded the horn, but the victim apparently could not get out of the way in time.

Coroner’s investigators are working to identify the man. Deputies said the man was in his 40s.

Deputy Tony Moore of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau says the victim, identified as a male Black adult, was shot at or near Peach Street and Oleander Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The statement says the victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

WILLOWBROOK (CBS) — A search continued Sunday for a hit and run driver who police say fatally struck a 38-year-old man and critically injured a 7-year-old girl.

The victims were struck in a crosswalk on Santa Ana Boulevard at Watts Avenue in Willowbrook on Friday night.

Police described the suspect vehicle as a pearl white Cadillac Escalade with front-end damage and a missing Cadillac emblem.

Witnesses told authorities the driver was a heavy-set Latino male with short hair and a goatee.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with a noticeable gold chain necklace, police said.

The man, identified by the Santa Clara County Coroner as 55-year-old Enrique Tello, came across the downed line Friday night around 6:30 p.m. at 1658 S. Norfolk St. near Kehoe, according to Pacific Gas and Electric.

Tello, who was driving by in a pickup truck, apparently got out and attempted to move the power line out of the road, suffering major injuries in the process, PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said.

He was transported to Stanford Medical Center where he died later Friday night, Guidi said.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the victim and his family,” Guidi said.

The downed line caused 3,300 PG&E customers in San Mateo to lose power Friday night, including parts of downtown San Mateo.

By 9:33 p.m., power had been restored to all but 73 of those customers. Remaining customers had their power returned by about 11 a.m. Saturday, according to San Mateo police.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 21-year-old man suffered fatal injuries in a shooting in Angelino Heights.

The attack in the 1000 block of North Kensington Road was reported about 1:40 a.m., according to Los Angeles police Lt. Wes Buhrmester.

Although the circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear, police did say that the victim — identified as Etsael “Tito” Cardenas — was found inside a vehicle.

Police do not believe the victim was a gang member. A motive for the murder was also unclear.

Witnesses heard two gunshots. One reportedly struck the victim in the heart.

Family members told Louisa Hodge, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, that Cardenas’ wallet and cell phone were also found on him ruling out robbery as a motive.

Cardenas was rushed to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A tearful Daisy Cardenas — one of the man’s four sisters — said, “I just want to know who did this … and why?”

She also said her brother was not into gangs. “He was not the kind of person who would hang around with gangsters. That was not him.”

The incident in the 4600 block of West Imperial Highway occurred about 2:45 a.m., said Deputy Tony Moore of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s homicide detectives were handling the investigation.

LANCASTER (CBS) — The search continued Saturday for a man suspected of gunning down a beloved store owner during a robbery at a Lancaster strip mall.

Deputies identified the suspect as 24-year-old Timothy Johnson. He is being sought in the shooting death of 60-year-old Reed Keith.

Keith was fatally shot in his computer store in the 2000 block of West Avenue K in Lancaster on Friday.

Johnson is described as a black male with a closely shaved head. He is 6’2″ and weighs approximately 170 pounds.

Deputies overnight surrounded a home on the 43000 block of Grange Street after the alleged getaway car was spotted.

After a lengthy standoff, deputies entered the house early Saturday morning but say the suspect was long gone.

The shooting occurred just after 3:40 p.m. in the 10900 block of Atlantic Ave, according to Deputy Tony Moore of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

The unidentified victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The robbery attempt reportedly took place in a strip mall parking lot.

A father and son were sitting in their car when approached by two black males, both aged 18-20, according to officials.

One of the suspects pulled a gun on the father who was sitting in the driver’s seat. The father tried to wrest the gun away from the suspect causing a struggle.

Authorities say the son came to his father’s aid as the suspect pistol whipped the elder man. The son was shot in the chest several times in the torso trying to protect his father.

The suspects fled in an unknown direction.

The father suffered minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

The collision on Mitchell Avenue at Norwood occurred about 1:22 a.m.

Ruben Terriquez was killed in the crash of the 1994 Ford Mustang driven by the allegedly drunken racer: Jesus Gamez. Both men were identified as Riverside residents, Gamez is also 18.

According to Riverside Police Sgt. Dan Reeves, witness statements indicated that the Mustang and a silver sedan were street racing when the Mustang ran a stop light, lost control and crashed into a parked car.

The silver car reportedly left the scene after the crash, police said.

“Both occupants had to be extricated from the vehicle by Riverside Fire Department personnel,” Reeves said. “They were transported to Riverside  Community Hospital for treatment and the passenger succumbed to his injuries during treatment.”
