Peter (unwittingly) was trying to prevent Jesus from being arrested thereby interfering with Jesus’ mission on the cross. Jesus was going to go without a fight to do His father’s will. The passage is not about promoting world peace.

For the past couple of days on LoveWorld Sat, I watched as different people wished my Pastor, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome a Happy Birthday and I wondered what I would say if I was asked….so, here goes!!!

First, I would start by shouting, jumping, dancing and screaming, all at the same time……..then I would calm down knowing I was in front of the camera and compose myself. Then, clearing my throat, I would probably scream “Pastor Chris, I looooooooove yoooou…Happy Birthday” and after taking a deep breadth, I would look straight into the camera and say:

“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you”; you know I looked up this scripture in more contemporary translations and I came close to tears because if not that I met Pastor Chris Oyakhilome when I did, I would have lived a wasted life. My beloved Daddy, Pastor Chris, “every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God”. This message that you have given me, truly, has given my life a meaning. My life would have been empty without the opportunity to join hands with you and give lives a meaning. Oh sweet Pastor Chris, “I give praise to God at every memory of you”. Thank you for your love, thank you, thank you and thank you again. I know you know this but Pastor dear Pastor, I thank my God every time I remember you!!!

The Lord Jesus Christ described John the Baptist as a “burning and shining light” in John 5:35. This description depicts a man who is about his business in a diligent and passionate manner that produced evident results.

What then could then be his driving force and motivation? Time and time again, the man of God has expressed and demonstrated two major things – his deep fellowship with the Holy Spirit and his “un-quenching” passion for souls. He never stops praying for them, he never stops teaching and preaching the gospel and he continuously draws the unsaved to his meetings in large numbers.

Sadly, there are many Christians who are saved, “hell-proof” and “heaven-bound”, who do not care about the souls of the lost; what a contrast to the Lord Jesus Christ – a man whose every waking activity was motivated by a passion for the lost in his day. [Luke 19:10; Mark 10:45]

I admire Glen Beck with every fiber of my being for going on national television and calling the president a racist with a deep seated hatred toward white people. Beck is so right, but the only problem is that he doesn’t go far enough. Obama hates Americans, and the country we live in. Hate is too soft a word.  October 27 , 1553 – Condemned as a heretic for preaching nontrinitarianism and anti-infant baptism, Michael Servetus  was burned at the stake outside Geneva.

“A new heresy has been discovered,” he said. “We must stamp out this burst of hell-fire before it spreads over the surface of the earth…. Freedom of conscience is a doctrine of the devil…. Better to have a tyrant, however cruel, than permit everyone to do what he pleases.”—John Calvin.

“Whoever shall now contend that it is unjust to put heretics and blasphemers to death will knowingly and willingly incur their very guilt.”—John Calvin.

Because of these Pure Doctrines—-’Athiest Christopher Hitchens called (our Final Prophet) Calvin a “sadist and torturer and killer,” but who listens to atheists anyway?’

The most famous of these was a Spanish theologian named Michael Servetus. Servetus, who had been arrested and imprisoned by the Catholic church already, attended a sermon in Geneva. He was recognized and arrested in church for heresy. Why because he disagreed with the doctrines of the trinity and of infant baptism. Calvin engineered his prosecution, acted as a key witness for it, and then lobbied for Servetus’ death. Result? Servetus was burned at the stake.

When other Reformers of the day protested the execution of Servetus for a mere doctrinal disagreement, Calvin was incensed: “A new heresy has been discovered,” he said. “We must stamp out this burst of hell-fire before it spreads over the surface of the earth…. Freedom of conscience is a doctrine of the devil…. Better to have a tyrant, however cruel, than permit everyone to do what he pleases.”

Yes, that’s a real quote.

In 1551 Calvin was confronted by a reformer called Jérôme Bolsec, who accused him of making God out to be the author of evil in deciding the fate of the damned before their creation. Bolsec was imprisoned by the magistrates and lucky to be banished from the city.

There were a total of 57 people executed in Geneva during the 4 years of John Calvin’s power over the city of Geneva.

Twenty-three people, mostly women, were burned at the stake was witches. Calvin wrote later that they were found guilty for trying to use witchcraft to spread the black plague.

Several people, mostly women, were executed for the capital offense of adultery.

One little girl was executed for slapping her mother. But that’s just Old Testament law, right?

Jacques Gruet was arrested, tortured for 30 days and, upon confession, beheaded for being an atheist.

Michael Servetus was burned at the stake for being a heretic.

This isn’t to mention a number of other crimes, such as a number of women in Geneva being thrown in prison for the “sinful practice” of dancing. But on Calvin’s 500th birthday, a number of Calvinist theologians have been using the occasion to make the news and defend Calvin.

Christopher Elwood, author of Calvin for Armchair Theologians, a concise summary of Calvin’s life, said “So everyone back then was intolerant. You can’t blame Calvin. In fact, Calvin didn’t want to kill Servetus, he just wanted Servetus to recant his doctrinal error. In fact, Calvin even tried to be lenient and have Servetus beheaded instead of burned at the stake. You wouldn‘t think it, but Calvin was actually deeply influenced by Renaissance humanism.”

Reformed Pastor Jim McClarity quotes J.I. Packer to explain the list of reasons why Calvin having Servetus executed wasn’t really that bad -

“1 – Geneva was a Christian state. In Christian states, denying Christian doctrine is a capital offense. This wasn’t Calvin’s fault. 2 – Other churches like the Catholics burned “heretics” at the stake too. 3 – The Catholics already were planning on killing Servetus for heresy against their church anyway. 4 – Other Protestant Reformers would have killed Servetus too, I mean come on, this heretic was against infant baptism. 5 – Calvin wouldn’t have prosecuted Servetus if Servetus had just admitted that he was wrong. 6 – Calvin just wanted Servetus beheaded – that’s more humane. 7 – This could be seen more as a fault of the culture of the day, not the fault of Calvin’s.”

Oh, ok – we should sympathize with Calvin then. After all, he really was a great Bible scholar.

Reformed Pastor Joe Morecraft said he‘s tired of hearing about Calvin murdering people -

“Look, just because Calvin had all these people executed doesn’t mean his theology was wrong. Geeze, ok, ok, so some of them were executed for disagreeing with his theology – well doesn’t mean they were right. Calvin could have still been right. Do you realize how arrogant it was of Servetus to foolishly go to Calvin’s church. He probably thought he could debate Calvin. Well, he was wrong.”

Elwood also noted that even though Calvin’s predestination doctrine denied the free will of man and seemed to mean that God destined the majority of people to damnation in hell, Calvin and his followers would never emphasize this. “This isn’t something they would push in your face. If you asked them about it, they’d answer you, but no one was burned at the stake for refusing to believe that God created people to go to hell.”

Those who defend our Pure Doctrines are Absolutely Correct in doing so.

Dear Tammy,

Greetings to you in the matchless name of our Lord Jesus Christ; I became a fan of Pastor Chris through your blog and I have listened to him ever since. You know, apart from the inspiration and spiritual impartation I continually receive, I have noticed something extraordinary – this might sound “carnal” but, I’ll go ahead and say it anyway, I am captivated by his dress sense; he is a style icon.

In every sense of the word, Pastor Chris has definitely got style and much more. It’s a mélange of charisma and deity. More than his dress sense, it’s his presentation of divine truth, the poise and the calm that he exhibits, that makes him so much more stylish. There’s a lot of power in the way he carries himself and the message he preaches. His wavy hair adds to his personality, His strong, traditional suits, bold power ties, subtle pocket squares and weighty cuff links and his well maintained body makes him very smart.

His handsome look with his message of grace, his charisma, his message, and his humility, all add up to his cool style icon image. His charm and personality is built from inside on what he wears, and it is a part of the whole package, his entire image is directed on perfection and super excellence. Pastor Chris’ personal style is worthy of acknowledgment and emulation. He is definitely setting the right tone as a fashion icon.

And before you wonder if I’ve gone “off my rockers”, the scriptures suggest to me that our Lord Jesus was a style icon in the days of his earthly ministry. Remember that on the day of his crucifixion, Roman soldiers who I believe must have been well paid at their time because they were government officials divided Jesus clothes amongst themselves and cast lots for his coat. They must have been good quality – designer wears.

I look forward to the changes of the seasons, fall brings cooler weather, and beautiful colors from nature.   There’s a smell in the woods unlike summer.  You can smell dirt in the woods in the fall.  With all the foliage gone, you can hear things better, I think sound travels farther.  The sky seems clearer and the stars brighter.

I work at a power plant and during the spring and fall the demand for power is lower.  The board of directors, use this lull as a time to rebuild wore out parts in the plant.  This means long working hours, I’ve been on seven-ten hour days.  Last week I worked seven night, 4pm to 2:30am.  We do abnormal jobs that, we don’t normally do, so to say the least I’m very tired.  I hurt in places I did not know existed.

When your mentally and physically tired, your brain works over time.  Usually toward the negative, you take offence to things that you would normally just pass off.  Sometimes you say things you don’t really mean.  I do two thing to prepare myself.  The Bible say’s, Phil.4:8, Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. First, I don’t always trust what my mind is thinking, so I don’t (trust my mind).   Second, if what I’m hearing is true, but is not honorable, I just ignore it.  This may sound crazy to some, but it works for me.  I have a healthier out look during these times and I’m not flying of the handle at little things.

I have found that adversity is going to come in life, it’s how we handle these times that reveals Christ to others.  Do people see Christ in you?  It’s easy to be a Christian in the good times, what kind of a Christian are you when things go rough.   Posted by Steve Waltrip

One other thing I would like to say to Bible-minded Christians is to remain Bibliocentric and hold onto Biblical Integrity, one ought to confront all Christians living in the sin of using toilet paper as toilet paper was invented by Pagan Chinese, who worshipped false gods and not our God of Wrath as Revealed in the Inerrant and Infallible Holy Bible.  Also, paper itself was invented by Pagan Egyptians to inscribe their demonic and blasphemous scriptures to their false gods, in their dark, morally and spiritually corrupt religious practices—so that if the Elect falls prey to the sin of using toilet paper, they in affect may be welcoming in false gods (disguised as seducing demons) into their lives. So as we can see using toilet paper is an unholy sin of humanistic pride against our Divine Sovereign God of Wrath, who in His Absolute Sovereignty created (6000 years ago in 6 literal days) our hands, wool, lace or hemp, wood shavings, leaves, grass, hay, stone, sand, moss, water, snow, maize husks, fruit skins, or seashells, and corn cobs for us to use to clean our anuses. OR – What the Archbishop said to the “peace-makers” in the Indy

POWER WITHOUT RESPONSIBILITY

(Failing to render unto Caesar)

Archbishop of Canterbury, St Paul’s Cathedral on the Iraq invasion:

“In a world as complicated as ours has become, it would be a very rash person who would feel able to say without hesitation, this was absolutely the right or the wrong thing to do, the right or the wrong place to be.”

Hiding under an ill-fitting  robe of circumspection the seemingly non-judgemental remark by this man of God, this Archbishop of Canterbury revealed his true political position. With a captive audience under the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral, including the Queen, the former and present prime ministers and troops and families of the fallen, this was a shameful day for the Anglican Church and for the Archbishop in particular.

Jesus never called on his followers to attack the integrity, honour and responsibility of others. And yet Rowan Williams, the man who said Sharia Law is inevitable in Britain, did just that.

Then Jesus said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Matthew 22:17-21 RSV)

Can I tell you what irritates me intensely about the high-minded Archbishop and his allies The Independent? Their naivety. Combined with their hijacking of the cause of peace as theirs and theirs alone, they are bumptious and presumptuous, and worst of all plain WRONG.

Increasingly ignominiously they are invariably and consistently WRONG, WRONG, WRONG over both Iraq AND Tony Blair.

MY MESSAGE TO ‘IGNOBILITY UNITED’

The self-appointed ones – the Archbishop, the Independent and the Nobel Peace Prize Committee are NOT joint-custodians of the truth, the way and the light.

With NO, repeat NO political nous, accountability or wider understanding, the problems of this world are NOT theirs to solve. Yesterday we saw the backlash against the Ignoble Nobel Prize-givers who tried the same trick.

And yesterday the Bumptious One in St Paul’s prattled on with his thinly veiled message – “It would be a very rash person (aka Tony Blair?) who would say without hesitation ….” etc… etc…

Well – get this message, Your Grace, loud and clear. No subtlety intended.

YOUR position in life is NOT to opine, judge or make snide remarks on those with elected responsibility.

It is nothing less than DISGRACEFUL that someone in your position campaigns from a pulpit whilst claiming to be commemorating the dead and saving the souls of the living.

We saw through that circumspection robe and the view did not please.

A picture paints a thousand words we are told. So we can surely expect, for the sake of its own equilibrium and that of its fellow-travellers, The Independent to lead with this front page – any century soon.

DISGRACEFUL COMMENTS FROM THE ARCHBISHOP

More gems of ‘wisdom’ from Williams at his speech at a gathering purportedly to commemorate the dead NOT criticise the living. Especially when the subject(s) of that ever-so-polite scorn is/are unable or unwilling to respond.

There is SO much, so VERY much to castigate in his ’sermon’. Here is a closer look at the remarks this man made from on high just as he plummeted to the depths of infamy:

1. “There were those among both policymakers and commentators who were able to talk about [the conflict] without really measuring the price, the cost of justice.” (Source: London Evening Standard)

How does HE know that politicians failed to measure or consider the human costs of the war in Iraq? How does HE know anything about the decision-making process? He knows  nothing. This kind of proclamation if carried to its logical conclusion would mean only one thing: that there is NEVER an occasion when any leader or country is entitled to go to war, because there will be a human cost.  PACIFISM. A fine principle for those who do not have to decide, and a shameful cop-out clause for the weak and politically challenged.

2. “The invisible enemy may be hiding in the temptation to look for short cuts in the search for justice – letting ends justify means, letting others rather than oneself carry the cost, denying the difficulties or the failures so as to present a good public face.”

Was he referring to terrorists here? Those who hold up “justice” as theirs to mete out to all, acting in the name of a deity?  Clearly not. Terrorists have NO compunctions as to presenting “a good public face”.

No, these words were directed at – and ONLY at – western politicians, and at one British politician in particular.

They were unforgivable accusations!

The invisible enemy is not in others’ motivation, tactics, presentation or perceived shared responsibility or lack of.  From 2003 to this day I have not heard Tony Blair ONCE cast “blame” or responsibility for what he often describes as “my decision”.

The invisible enemy is YOU and your ilk, Archbishop, and your accusations regarding the integrity and intent of those faced with a thankless task.

Why in the name of all that’s supposed to be holy did this man talk about political decisions, when he was there to lead a service of commemoration and thanks to our troops ? A touch of honesty in his motives would be refreshing at this time of supposed national, unbridled “honesty”.

VERY RASH. VERY, VERY RASH

It would be a VERY rash bystander, such as the Archbishop and most of us non-politicians with incomplete access to all the available facts, who could claim to be sure of the rightness or otherwise of this conflict. In that he is correct.

In democracies some (un)fortunate individual and/or government HAS to take responsibility and be up to defending that decision. For that we have leaders and governments. THAT is why we elect them, Archbishop.

The previous prime minister was the only leader in recent times to put the question of war to parliament AND to get its approval. NEVER forget that, Archbishop.

“It was not the practice of governments to seek parliamentary approval for decisions on the use of armed force, but in 2003, before embarking on
military intervention in Iraq, the Government thought it right, or expedient, to obtain the support of the House of Commons.” (source)

This unusual, if not unique parliamentary support is a FACT which is often forgotten by those who like to accuse Blair of breaking international law. If HE did, so did the rest of parliament.  So they’re ALL ‘war criminals’. Still, you have to hand it to Blair.  He’s atypical of  your average everyday despotic tyrant – the sort who never asks political colleagues to agree to anything – isn’t he?

Democracy, for those who fail to understand, is government by the people through its elected representatives.  In 2005 the same government which represented this country going into the Iraq war was re-elected.  BY THE PEOPLE.

We did NOT elect the Archbishop to run our country!

Kindly keep your opining between you and your Maker, Your Grace.

The Archbishop of the Confused has in one fell swoop proved that he is NOT fit for purpose (to coin a phrase.)

He said: “Perhaps we have learnt something, if only that there is a time to keep silence, a time to let go of the satisfyingly overblown language that is so tempting to human beings when war is in the air.”

Mr Blair looked solemn as he listened intently to the Archbishop’s address.

Seething inside perhaps? As I would have been in his position.

‘On no fewer than three occasions in his address the Archbishop, who has previously described the decisions that led to the war as flawed, questioned the decision-making process that led to a conflict in which 179 Britons lost their lives.

And there, in the second row, was Tony Blair, who was responsible for that decision, and his expression — gaunt, solemn, unchanging — gave no indication of what he felt.

While the Archbishop chose to question the war, the rest of the congregation by their very presence emphasised the sense of national unity. As well as former heads of the Army, Sir Mike Jackson and Sir Richard Dannatt; the former Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon; and President Talalbani of Iraq, no fewer than 12 members of the Royal Family attended the service, including the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince William.’

The Guardian:

Williams is blessed with a sonorous lilt and a subtle prose style that can sometimes make his words, at first, seem more emollient than they are. This was no soothing homily from a man who has previously described decisions leading to Britain’s involvement in the war as being morally and practically flawed.

“Reflecting on the Iraq campaign, we cannot say that no mistakes were ever made – when has that ever been the case?” Williams said. “But we can be grateful for the courage and honesty shown in facing them. Justice does not come without cost. In the most obvious sense, it is the cost of life and safety. But there is another sort of cost involved in holding back the easy instinctive response and checking that you are genuinely doing something for the sake of long-term building or healing.”

The service will not draw a line under the Iraq conflict, as pointed out here. In July, a new inquiry into the war began under the chairmanship of Sir John Chilcot, who also attended the Iraq “commemoration” service. Far from drawing a line the Archbishop’s words could even stoke up the fires of those who seek “justice”.

Let us hope, pray… that as the Inquiry proceeds and eventually concludes, Your Grace’s conscience remains clear.

‘The truth is that we went to war on the lies of Blair and his weapons of mass destruction.

‘He sent our fine men and women to fight without proper transport, kit or arms. And as a result of that decision, I have lost my son.

As I noted here yesterday, others there in mourning were not so judgemental, personal or so quick to perpetuate myths on “lies” or kit.

A soldier signatory at the Ban Blair-Baiting petition takes a different view entirely. Sgt A Browne (at #13) says:

As a Sgt with the Army, The Rifles Regiment (Infantry), i have nothing but praise for the man [Blair]. After two CON-servative governments giving us servicemen & Women poor funding and poor kit, he changed things. Today thanks to him we have some of the best kit out there. Despite what some high ranking officers have said in the British Gutter press. Ask any soldier ON THE FRONTLINE (i.e not these high ranking Tory supporting officers) if they are happy with the kit and the answer is a resounding “YES”.

Sometime last year, on my birthday to be precise, I wanted to so much to have Pastor Chris Oyakhilome pray for me personally, and it didn’t look possible until I remembered that I got a free Prayer CD in my copy of his book The Seven Spirits of God [Get your copy at the Christ Embassy Online Store]. So, I put the CD in my player and knelt down beside my bed and Pastor Chris began to pray for me….boy, was I ever so blessed. It’s been over a year now and I have seen the fulfillment of these words of prayer in very miraculous ways. This is why I decided to share some of these precious words with you – I already posted these words of prayer on another page on the blog and the testimonies have been so inspiring and the requests touching.

I pray for you, that the blessing of God’s word will rest upon you and in your home, health is yours, strength is yours, promotion is yours, protections is yours, increase is yours, in the Name of Jesus, no weapon fashion against you shall prosper, and God will increase you from glory to glory, you will move from grace to grace, from strength to strength, and continually experience the victory of Christ in your life, in the might Name of Jesus. I pray that God will guide you, and fill you with the spirit of wisdom, and revelation in the knowledge of God, I pray that He will enlighten the eyes of your understanding, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. The grace of God is working in you, in the name of the Lord Jesus; doors are opening for you now, opportunities are opening for you now, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I speak by the power of God, your name is coming up for opportunities now, your file is coming up in the name of Jesus. They have to remember you in the right place now; in that place of opportunity they remember you now, in the name of Jesus.

On August 29th 2009, I introduced to you specially to the Pastor Chris Prophetic Blog and I hope you have availed yourself of the great blessings that accrue to all from this blog. Pastor Chris would always say – one word from God can change your life forever. In his last post dated Thursday 24^th September, Pastor Chris said:

It’s another season in the realm of the Spirit, which according to the book of Malachi 3:16, God’s book of remembrance is open for a season of sudden glory; and divine favor is granted in such a way that you’ll enter into a position of opportunity, influence, prosperity and power. This sudden glory is beyond what you could have imagined.

Eric Liddell on principle of his beliefs and faith in God refused to compete on a Sunday. His event was changed and he won the 400 meters. Because of his actions, his story lives on and has inspired millions of people around the world about the power of God. I believe that Eric Liddell was smiling upon us today.

From the movie “Chariots of Fire”, a movie about two men from England who competed in the 1924 Olympics. Harold Abrahams ran to prove something .  Eric Liddell ran for the glory of God.

Short bio
“As a result of having insufficient time for both running and rugby, he chose the former, aiming for the 100 meters in the Paris Olympics.  When he learned that the heats were to be run on a Sunday, he switched to the 400 metre competition as he was not prepared to run on a Sunday.    He won a gold medal for the 400 metres and a bronze medal for the 200 metres at the Paris Olympics.

After the Olympics and his graduation he returned to North China where he served as a missionary from 1925 to 1943 – first in Tientsin (Tainjin) and later in Siaochang.   During his first furlough in 1932 he was ordained as a minister.    On his return to China, he married Florence Mackenzie (of Canadian missionary parentage) in Tientsin in 1934.    They had three daughters; Patricia, Heather and Maureen, who now all live in Canada.

Living in China in the 1930s was potentially very dangerous and in 1937 Eric was sent to Siaochang where he joined his brother Rob.   He was now crossing the Japanese army lines.  

In 1941 life in China was becoming so dangerous that the British Government advised British nationals to leave.   Florence and the children left for Canada.

During 1941 – 1943 Eric stayed in Tientsin, then in 1943 he was interned in Weishien camp until his death in 1945.”

“I remember seeing Eric Liddell just the day before he died. For more than two years of our wartime captivity our school was interned in the same camp he was. That day he was walking slowly under the trees near the camp hospital beside the open space where he had taught us children to play basketball and rounders. As usual, he had a smile for everyone, especially for us children.

The athlete who had refused to run on a Sunday in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, but who later won the gold medal and created a world record in the 400 meters, was now, twenty-one years later at the age of forty-three, reaching the tape in his final race on earth. We knew nothing of the pain he was hiding, and he knew nothing of the brain tumour that was to take his life the next evening, on that February 21, 1945.

Sent to this same camp in Weihsien in August 1943 with many other missionaries’ children, I will forever share with all the other hero worshippers of my age that vivid memory of the first sight of the man whom other prisoners described excitedly as the Olympic gold medalist who wouldn’t run on a Sunday.

Eric Liddell stood out among the 1500 people packed into our camp that measured only 150 by 200 yards. He was in charge of the building where we younger children, who had already been away from our parents for four years because of the war, lived with our teachers. He lived in the very crowded men’s dormitory near us (each man had a space of only three by six feet) and supervised our daily roll call when the guards came to count us. One day a week “Uncle Eric” would look after us younger children, giving out teachers (all missionaries of the China Inland Mission and all ladies) a break. His gentle face and warm smile, even as he taught us games with the limited equipment available, showed us how much he loved children, missing his own so very much.”

In my prayers for many months I have asked for Barack Obama to be removed from office and that the truth about him be revealed.

October the 19, I went with a friend to a church work shop, in the area.  I took two class on Discipleship.  This is what I learned.

Matthew 28: 19 “Go therefore and make Disciples…”    The last command that came out of Jesus mouth,  the last message He conveyed to us, was not going to church(which is important), was not read your Bible(very important), but make disciples.  It has been my experience the last words that come out of a persons mouth when leaving this earth, are probably the most important words they have ever spoken.

Our Churches are lacking and I have failed.  I plan to do better.  I plan to help my church rectify the problem. What about you?  You may be a Christian, but are you a Disciple?
