Moar SHK! Why is this recap so short, you ask? Well, to be honest, I mostly found Chapter 10 boring–I can even sum up the whole 40 pages worth for y’all in a couple sentences right now, minus the SEKRIT REVEAL OF SEKRIT at the end (SPOILER SUMMARY IS SPOILERY):

Sakura: Replying to fan letters is so hard! Why must I be so popular? I will procrastinate and drag my posse to the club treehouse to talk about boys! Also, I reveal that I wanted to marry my brother. Incest just went canon, baby.

So yeah, except for the ending sekrit!reveal (which really wasn’t so secret since I bet half the audience guessed this already), this chapter was pretty dull in comparison to some of the other chapters. I was thinking of skipping this recap altogether but my prickly self and the need to do things in chronological order compelled me to finish. I ended up enjoying myself when I finally sat down and worked on this recap though, especially after I nailed down the format in which I should handle this Ch. 10 parody. Diary format was very fun to write in. >D

Excerpt from Sakura’s Diary:

Dear Diary,

Things have been great since Aoba and I made out in the fields of love. We’ve been avoiding the topic of marriage but he’s been treating me very well! The only disruptions in our happy dating lives are those wretched, wretched letters by those court ladies that I ignored and left piling up till I now have over two hundred letters unanswered. Can’t they see that the only letter I want to receive is from my big brother Kai? I wouldn’t bother with those letters normally but then Aoba said he wouldn’t see me anymore if I didn’t start replying to those letters! What shall I do!? I can’t take my days anymore without seeing my one true love’s face!

Being popular in the court is such a hassle. I don’t need any of those court ladies. Why should I when I already have my posse, Asagiri and Kohaku? I’d rather be off slaying those non-humanoid demons, that’s so much easier than letter writing.

But what do to? Aoba’s kiss compels me to pick up my slack. Big Brother Kai in Heaven, please wish me luck!

Thinking of Sakura makes me miss her. Perhaps I should consider signing up for a spot in Sakura’s fanclub. Everyone else in the court is doing it.

Dear Diary

Guess what?! Asagiri, the Princess and I finally had our first girl talk about boys when she dragged us out to continue procrastinating on the letters she must write! It’s so nice to be part of the Princess’ inner circle. The Princess even asked me about my feelings for Hayate.

Oh Hayate, Hayate, Hayate. I love him but I can’t be with him even though we clearly reciprocate each other’s feelings! It is my fault that my love is now in the form of a frog, and until I turn him back and get rid of these feelings of guilt, I can’t be with him. I don’t want my love to be tainted by these feelings.

Anyhow, that’s not the interesting part. The really interesting part of today was when Princess was asked about her love. Guess who she named? Kai, her brother! I think Kai must have been a wonderful and gentle person, she had this face full of fondness when she talked about him… First love is so romantic!

It hurt a bit though when Sakura and Aoba decided to go all lovey-dovey right after though, especially since I just told her about Hayate and stuff. But I’ll try not to begrudge her of her happiness. I’m sure she didn’t mean anything by it. Sakura’s too nice of a person.

If you guessed Sakura Hime Kaden, YOU’D BE RIGHT. I’m the most predictable person ever, I know.

I was compelled by the cracktastic developments that followed in the latest chapter so I decided to neglect my many papers and studying for exams to write something for Sakura Hime Kaden. Now, before what I usually did was just post my page/panel reactions to the chapter and have commentaries at the end, but thinking about going through all the pages to do so hurt my brain. So I decided to change things up about and will from henceforth talk about each chapters in parody-style, script-format! W00t~~

And the first up on my list is the last chapter I left off: Chapter 9.

Sakura: This life letter reminds me of Aoba and the time he shot me. I miss my once-betrothed prince Aoba so, woe is meeeeeeeeeeeee.

Byakuya: Gawd, she never lets up on the self-angst, does she? Here’s a plan, how about we take back your clothes that are in Aoba’s residence, and maybe you can forget the guy who kind of tried to have you killed?

Sakura: NO, MY CLOTHES CAN STAY WITH HIM. May he look upon them and regret the fact he didn’t chase after me when Fuji gave me his proposal!

Byakuya: Er

Sakura: All I need is Oumi’s letter and Asagiri! I can always buy new clothes later, when I need to change out of the ones I’m wearing now.

Byakuya: … And I guess that makes me chopped liver. Everyone shall rue the day they pushed aside the old lady priestess with foreshadowing abilities.

[AOBA’S RESIDENCE]

Aoba: I have received word that Sakura and co has left. It’s a shame that I acted like a complete douche throughout her stay and I couldn’t be a decent gentleman to her and tried being nice before she left. *angst*

Hayate: I greet my man friends with a weapon against their throat! For it is the manly way!

Hi guys! Once again, I’m able to invite yet another mangaka to grace our blog with her presence. Let’s give a warm welcome to Madeleine Rosca, mangaka of Hollow Fields~! =D

I personally find her style of drawing very cute and very colourful. =D So do support Madeleine by hopping over to Gomanga.com and purchase all the volumes of Hollow Fields~!

She was also one of four winners presented with Japan’s first ever “International Manga Award” for her work on Hollow Fields.

When did you discover you could draw?

Very young, like most kids. I wasn’t always particularly better than other kids at drawing; I just really enjoyed it, so the more I did it, the more practice I got. My parents were both art teachers, so there was a lot of encouragement at home.

Why manga?

Manga has a very cinematic feel to it; a good manga should be a lot like watching a good movie. Drawing the panels is a lot like being a director who’s in control of a camera. I liked that sense of action and movement. Often western comics look very static by comparison, so they didn’t appeal as much.

You’ve been both self-published and published by a publisher, could you tell us briefly what it’s like to be on both sides of the fence?

I was very, very briefly self-published before being picked up by Seven Seas. There are good and bad things to both sides. All in all, it’s much better to be published, because you get paid(!), you get professional editorial input and your work reaches a much bigger audience. Benefits to self publishing though, include full control over your work and your story. That’s not always what’s best for the story, though…sometimes having an editor’s opinion really helps.

How do you come up with the ideas for your manga?

I read a lot, watch a lot of films, talk to people…it’s a very organic process. I hope that doesn’t sound pretentious. Writers come up with stories just by living and having experiences. I like steampunk, so most of my stories end up with a steampunk aesthetic, and the themes that come from that – mad science, retro robotics, etc.

What can your readers look forward to in your future projects?

I’ve currently got one in the pipeline but I am still in the annoying ‘negotiating with publishers’ stage. It’s been a slow year, but hopefully next year will see another story coming out.

Hiya guys~! Today I have the privilege of interviewing Hu Jingxuan, thanks to the heads-up by annhell. =D

When and why did you go into manga drawing?

Since young, I had been enjoying cartoons and animations. The first few series that really sparked my interest in manga creation are Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon and Dragon ball. I started seriously drawing manga in 2003. I joined the Student Manga correspondence in Singapore Press Holdings and I submitted my works to be published in Friday Weekly every now and then.

Of all art forms, I especially love drawing manga. It is an escape from the real world into my own fantasy world. I can tell my own stories through manga and create characters based on personal experiences, making sure they are neither absolute monsters nor angels. But most of all, I love the challenge manga drawing requires.

Once I started drawing manga in 2003, I had decided that I would want to do this for the rest of my life. Since then I had been working consistently towards this goal.

Being a manga artist in Singapore is not easy, how did you manage to juggle both real life and drawing?

It had been really hard at first. Lament was produced when I was still in NUS High School. I had to balance between homework, exams and producing about 20 pages of manga per month. But I guess ‘when there’s a will, there’s a way.’ My passion had kept me going.

How long do you take to produce a page and where did you get your inspiration from?

It varies. It’s usually the concept and planning of the page that takes time. Inking takes around less than half a day usually.

I’m enchanted by myths and the ancient civilizations. Much of my comic and illustrations has setting in a fantasy or ancient world. My subjects tend to be mythical guardian beings or angels.

Over the years, I have developed an ornate and gothic art style. I’m obsessed with details, techniques and visual impacts. I put special attention to designs in my work, be it the clothing design or landscape design. Though I like painting and experimenting with colours, I’m more interested in the sharp visceral feeling created by the medium of micron pens and markers. I want to create in my art a surreal nightmarish dream realm. A worlds like an entangling spider web, where everything is crawling with pseudo-organic ornamentation and decaying roses.

You managed to publish “Lament” with the help of MDA and Chuangyi. Could you tell us how that came about?

I submitted my proposal for First-Time Writers and Illustrators Publishing Initiative in 2007, and I was chosen. Since then, I had been working on ‘Lament’. I had gained a lot through the process.

The experience and insights gained from working with editors. Lament is created from the team effort of me and the Chuangyi editors. Comic drawing is no longer a simple individual affair. It involves the combined effort in drawing, scripting, page layout and story development.

Along the way, I picked up invaluable tips from the editor’s suggestions. The main editor and Team Cy has helped me to develop my plot from its shaky beginning. They showed me how to add tension to the story. And with their help in scripting, my story becomes more polished and smooth. This project is a proper training for me to prepare me for future challenges.

Chuangyi and MDA had been selflessly promoting our works through conventions and autograph sessions. My experience at STGCC recently has really been fruitful and fun. Chuangyi had done a great job creating publicity for our works in STGCC from both the public and other publishers. I also had an interesting experience overcoming my shyness and learning a few promoting skills from Chuangyi. ^^

It’s an honour working with Chuangyi and it’s really a huge dream come true for me. At this moment, I need to say a loud, thank you for making it happen!

I still remember the first time I met the manager in Chuangyi, he looked at my art and told me that my works and my unique gothic style have the potential to go far, it has been one of my driving forces when I was drawing Lament =>

What was it like to contribute to “Liquid City”?

I felt both excited and honored. It’s a platform for me to polish my skills at telling a story in less than 20 pages. It felt totally different from drawing a long story like ‘LAMENT’.

Publishing anything of any sort is really challenging in Singapore, how would you advise an aspiring mangaka to see his/her dream come true in publication-land?

I would start by submitting my works to competitions and proposing my ideas to different publishers. Also, set up a good professional website to showcase your works. Or even start a webcomic to get feedback and create a fan base. And there’s always the option of self-publishing if you are confident that your work has market value.

+ Die Leiden eines Mangaka – Teil 6

In der Tat habe ich die 7. Seite bereits fertig, kommt aber erst am Samstag^^

Was ein anstrengender Tag. Schule ist weniger motivierend obwohl wir mit 5 Stunden einen eher kurzen Tag hatten. Aber eine Stunde Physik ist wie 45stunden pausenlos unterricht. Vor allem wenn man nach dem Unterricht in die Stadt gehen will um sich 5 Fullmetal Alchemist Bände abzuholen! (Das kauft man wirklich nicht alle Tage.)

Jetzt bin ich glücklich^^ Und die 2. DVD von FMA kam auch noch dazu. Und meine Freundin konnte nur zuschauen, wie ich abspasste xD Kyaaa, ich muss diese DVD schauen. Aber ich will auch die Mangas lesen — arg^^” xD Endlich hab ich stolze 11 Bände!!!

Eine weitere Quelle meiner Freude ist, dass ich heute meine Anmeldung zum Violineunterricht abgegeben habe. Möglicherweise muss ich aufgrund der Überlastung der Lehrkräfte bis nach Weihnachten warten aber was solls, besser spät als nie^^ Ich wünschte ich könnte meine Violine schon ausleihen und meine Nachbarn damit terrorisieren

Just finished reading the manga “Gyo” by Junji Ito.
It really was something special; it is about some sort of monstrous race of mutated fish that start to invade Japan, coming out of the seas in the millions, bringing with them a horrible smell of rotting flesh …and death.
But why are they here, what is their purpose?
Yeah, just like Junji Ito’s manga “Uzumaki” the whole unnatural/supernatural dilemma is shrowded in mystery, however unlike “Uzumaki” this manga falls short in the story department, yet graphically it’s nothing short of a masterpiece.
I really like horror mangas, before I read this one , I read “Uzumaki“, which tells the story about a small towns obsession with spirals; which has a disasterous outcome.
“Uzumaki” is really one of the best horror mangas I have read, each chapter is significantly distinctive and special but brings the whole story together keeping the red thread going, along with amazing graphics and atmosphere.

If you too like horror manga, I really suggest you read all of Hideshi Hino’s mangas!
Very simply drawn, yet with great stories and distinctive humorous touches; the Hino Horror series are thrilling, chilling and terrifying yet uncanningly entertaining, making you crave more and more.
I especially like “The Red Snake“.

Zwei Tage ist der letzte Relase her, jetzt ist es wieder so weit: eine sechste Seite der Passion Mangaka Serie ist da!

whaa, haltet durch! Meine Zeichnungen sind zwar nicht besonders gut aber das werden sie noch!! Das ist meine erste Serie und ich hab sie gerade angefangen und ich verspreche, dass ich mit dieser Serie Erfahrungen sammeln werde!!!

Ich mag die Leiden eines Mangaka… ich mag die Idee, ich mag was ich daraus machen will, ich mag die Charaktere und ich mag die Tatsache, dass alles von mir kommt *sabber*. Jaja, ich und mein krankes Hirn…

*hüstel* Ich bin immer noch erkältet. Habe aber innerhalb von 2 Stunden heute die Skizze zur Seite 6 gemacht und werd sie dementsprechend morgen mit tusche nachziehen. Hab morgen ja den ganzen lieben langen Tag Zeit…
Ich werd wohl erst Mittwoch wieder in die Schule gehen, wenn ich dann Physik schreibe^^” Ob ich dafür lerne? Keinen Deut, Physik kann ich ausgleichen und nach der 11 sollte ich es abwählen (oh, ich lerne meine talentlosigkeit zu akzeptieren). Es ist ein interessantes Thema und ich mag es im Unterricht was erzählt zu bekommen aber richtig Begreifen, sodass ich es später anwenden kann schaff ich bei Physik nicht…

Kaum habe ich (Freitag) den neuen Charakter erfunden, der heute auf Seite 5 seinen Auftritt hat, erfand ich heute eine neue Frau^^ sie heißt Carolin Romi (Halb deutsch, halb amerikanisch^^) und als ich im Telefonbuch nach einem passenden Nachnamen gesucht habe hab ich “Serialmörder” verlesen und fast schon beschlossen, dass das perfekt zu ihrem Charakter passt xD (was ist in letzter Zeit nur mit mir los?)
Nein, vielleicht sollte ich sie nicht so nennen aber die Idee, die dahinter steckt gefällt mir xD
Leider wird sie in diesem Kapitel nicht vorkommen können. Ich habe beschlossen, dass sie erst nach dem Prolog vorkommt, also nach diesem Kapitel.
Ja, das Kapitel wird insgesammt an die 20 seiten lang sein und wie ich sie füllen werde weiß ich noch nicht xD

One of the Japan’s most advanced industries, manga, it’s not what it used to be.

Recently, have been stated infos about a significant drop in manga sales,  which, for the artists and the publishers, is a very uncomfortable thing to hear. They realised that the public doesn’t react at their work [as they should] and this comes with the need of change.

For example Weekly Shonen Jump used to be sold in 6 millions copies each week back in ‘95. This year, only about 2, 8 millions copies, sankakucomplex.com informs us.

It seems that the public is going now on the characters profile, when buying a manga volume or magazine. Kadokawa entered this “character business” and they created characters to keep the audience up. But even with this, you cannot enjoy all the characters from the upcoming mangas, right?

Right! Because in a manga, you can have well-profiled characters, maybe exceptional ones, but in the end, it’s not important how a character is described but what he is capable to do. I say this because when I’m choosing a manga to read, it’s not because there’s a lovely teenage girl who likes to wear short skirts, but for the things she does, for her life-story. [but not everybody thinks like me]

And of course, because it’s a big industry, change is needed. I’m, personally, with the traditional manga, but because the world is moving so fast, manga is moving as well to a new evolution era. Manga will not dissapear, that’s for sure, but the public enjoying it is…

Maybe it’s because the artists creativity is getting low, maybe they prefer to watch anime instead, maybe because the “ero” and “moe” phenomenons are assaulting the industry, we don’t know for sure why people stopped reading manga.

Natsuki Takaya

If you are a certified manga addict, then perhaps you would know her.  Natsuki Takaya is the Japanese manga artist of the famous manga Fruits Basket (you probably have seen the anime adaptation) J.  That’s her pen name – she is born as Naka Hatake, on July 7, under the star sign Cancer.

I love her manga really – oh, I also love the 26-episode anime adaptation.  Because of the famous Fruits Basket manga, she received the Kodansha Manga Award for shojo in 2001.

My favorite Fruits Basket character is Kyou, the cat – hmmm, I can’t deny he’s really appealing, and I also like the character of the wacky Shigure-san.

I’m currently reading her manga Boku ga Utau to Kimi wa Warau Kara, though I’m really slow in terms of reading it because the semester is going to be over soon and lots and lots and lots of things are to be done.  whew!

Aún no se como daros las gracias a todos los que me comprásteis el manual ya que no fuísteis precisamente pocas personas y esto hay que agradecerlo muchísimo.  Para los que aún no lo tienen voy a hacer una segunda reedición para otros eventos, jornadas o para los pedidos que tenga por correo (recordad que si queréis uno: marisa.martcerv@gmail.com que ahora se acerca la Navidad ^^ y por 7€ que es lo que cobro ahora en “tiempos de Navidad” por correo [antes era 10€ por gastos de envío y todo eso y encima os enviaba alguna sorpresita no genérica])

Algunos me han escrito en el facebook o en el deviantart y me han dicho que muchas gracias y que estaban aprendiendo con el manual y hasta habían empezado a dibujar manga o crear sus cómics. Esto hace muchísima ilusión.

Ismét egy poénosabb darab, amely Yasui Riosuke mangája alapján készűlt, aki kiváncsi rá az  ITT belekukkanthat, sajnos nem találtam meg angolul, de akinek tetszett az anime annak érdemes megnézni mert nem teljesen egyeznek, plussz jeleneteket is tartalmaz. Aki pedig ezzel sem éri be az olvasgathatja a szintén tőle származó Pnk Shock vagy Bust to Bust mangákat, (ezeket már angolul).

Na de visszatérve az animéhez, nekem nagyon tetszett, volt egy két jelenet amin szétröhögtem az agyam.  Négy rövidke történetet karol fel.

Az első részben egy mangaka munkájába nyerhetünk bepillantást aki elakad egy póz megrajzolása közben de a dúrca tsundere gyerekkori barátja, (aki történetesen lány) kisegíti. Majd a Tokinomiya család elkényeztetett kisasszonykája és volt alkalmazottja kerül intimebb kapcsolatba.

A második felvonásban egy “elengedhetetlen” incest történettel nyitnak, aztán (ami szerintem a legviccesebb volt) Egy nagymellű csajszi szeretne kissebb cickókat, ezért tanácsot kér a barátnőitől, nem árulom el mi sül ki belőle…

Vidi sajnos cenzúrázott, de nem vészes.

Kapitel 1 – Die Qualen im Studio (Seite 2)

Puh, fast alle Outlines in der Schule nachgezogen *drop*. Ich wusste auch gar nicht, dass man Hintergrüne so toll mit Wasserfarben gestalten kann^^
Das erste Kapitel wäre mit dieser Seite schon beendet, das nächste wird etwas mehr den Hintergrund der beiden Charaktere Love und Keiko beleuchten. Wahrscheinlich fass ich wieder alles in 2 Seiten zusammen. Voraussichtlich werd ich Donnerstag mit der nächsten Seite fertig.

Außerdem versuche ich meine Zeichnerischen Fähigkeiten wieder zu verbessern wofür ich Schule eine etwas geringere Priorität geben werde (zumindest Nachmittags). Dann kann ich den Nachmittag dazu nutzen, meine Charaktere zu üben. Die habens wirklich nötig. Ich glaube die einzige, die ich halbwegs drauf habe ist Keiko. Love (das bin ja ich) krieg ich nie zweimal hin. (hey, ich hab sie noch nie richtig gezeichnet, bisher war sie ja immer die Witzfigur xD)

Ich fühl mich grad so richtig Süchtig nach Zeichnen. Es macht wieder Spaß, ich erziehle Ergebnisse, mit denen ich zufrieden bin. Mein Leben hat wieder einen Sinn!! (oooh, xD Overacting…)

1) Keiko
Die Druckqualität lässt zu wünschen übrig aber das Bild mag ich total^^ Das ist einfach ihr Blick! Deswegen mag ich den Charakter so^^

2) Das ist Meg
und ich hab sie gestern erfunden, in meinem Zeichenwahn xD
In anderen Geschichten sollen Meg und Keiko befreundet sein. Die beiden ticken ähnlich, beschäftigen sich auch gerne mit Kunst. Wobei ich das Gefühl habe, dass Meg ein größeres Spektrum bedient wärend Keiko sich auf Zeichnen und Geschichten beschränkt. Meg ist innovativ und kreativer, aber auch sehr fingerfertig – ein wahres Talent. Sie arbeitet auch gern mit Ton, frisiert etc.. jetzt fällt mir erst auf, dass ich sie sehr nach meiner Cousine geschaffen hab, weil ich zu ihr ein ähnliches Verhältnis hab. Meg hilft Keiko immer wieder, bei ihren Geschichten weiterzukommen. Sie ist aber weniger abgehoben als Keiko. Ich mag Meg einfach total, sie hat wirklich Stil^^
Ich frage mich nur, wie ich Meg in meine Parodie “Die Leiden eines Mangaka” rein tun soll…
Achso, Meg hat auch ne kleine Schwester. Sie heißt Lina und ein richtig knuddeliges Mädchen. Sie sieht Meg als ihr großes Vorbild ist aber sehr naiv und ihr eigentlich von Stil her gar nicht ähnlich… Naja, ich mag sie eigentlich wirklich gut und bin gespannt, was in Zukunft aus ihr wird.

3)Queen and Vampire
Ich hab mir so einen abgelacht als ich dieses Bild gezeichnet habe. Im Hintergrund dachte ich mir eine Situation der anderen Geschichte, in der Keiko und Meg zusammen auf Halloween rumlaufen. Ich sag doch, die sind beide verrückt (nur ist Keiko die schizophren-größenwahnsinnige Wissenschaftlerin und Meg die leicht abgedrehte Künstlerin). Ich könnte mir gut vorstellen, dass die beiden nachts dann so rumwandern und aus langeweile Süßigkeiten einsammeln. Am nächsten Tag sind die aber doch so nett und verteilen die den Kindern.
Ja, Meg ist wohl nur leicht abgedreht, das Kostüm passt zu Halloween. Aber sie hat einen Faible für lange Umhänge und Vampire^^ Sie würde sogar unter Umständen Tags damit rumlaufen xD. Keiko zieht sich… wieder so unpassend an und steht dazu. Sie wird auch immer “die Imperatorin” genannt und da dachte sie, könnte sie sich ganz elegant anziehen. Übrigens war das auch meine Denkweise, denn eben das Kleid hab ich selbst zu Halloween angezogen.^^

4) Kakashi-sensei
Das war ein Auftrag von einer Freundin, der Kriegsministerin, in meinem Imperium. Ist aber nur abgezeichnet. Bin trotzdem sehr stolz auf das Bild und würde es am liebsten behalten. Ich mag Kakashi irgendwie, er ist das einzig gute an Naruto xD
(mensch, fang ich jetzt wieder mit sowas an??? — seht euch die Liste meiner Obsessions an und findet einen Zusammenhang heraus. Tipp: Jahre — )

Puh, die Skizze wurde nochmal überarbeitet und mit dem Endergebnis bin ich eigentlich recht zufrieden.^^
Ergötzt euch so an einer scheußlich gezeichneten ersten Mangaseite, die wohl noch als Gag-Manga durchgeht, von mir, eurer Love, eurem Imperator und eurer künftig besten deutschen Mangaka (Love: mann, ist unsere werte ,Imperatorin` heute wieder narzisstisch ~.~)

Ich bin also schon sehr zufrieden mit dieser Seite, aber ich denke ich bessere die Fehler später mal aus.. da sehe ich einige nicht weitergezeichnete Striche, was war da wohl los? xD

Ganze 5 Stunden hat das gedauert, die Outlines übertragen und mit Kuli vorsichtig nachzubessern. Die Speedlines waren auch grausam zu mir. Aber ganz in der Arbeit versunken hab ich ganz vergessen, zum Badminton zu gehen ^^” ich hab so gar nicht gemerkt wie die Zeit verstrichen ist, Mangazeichnen macht zwar viel Mühe und am Ende kann man eigentlich als prinzipiell perfektionistischer Zeichner gar nicht zufrieden sein, aber es macht trotz allem irre spaß.
Die nächsten 3 Skizzen liegen schon bereit, kommen aber erst online, wenn ich sie sauber übertragen habe und bei meiner arbeitshaltung (ich komm erst in den Wahn, wenn ich angefangen habe, davor schiebe ich das vor mich hin) kann das ja noch etwas dauern^^

Después de la perdida del mangaka Yoshito Usui en el  mes de septiembr de este año anunciado en las noticias anteriores;  que TV Asashi ya estaba en trámites y en discusiones con la familia del difunto, para continuar con la serie Crayon Shin-chan, para ser estrenada el año que viene. Pero esta información solo corresponde al anime. El manga estaba planeado para solo durar hasta el fin de este mes. Sin embargo, segun la siguiente actualización, no sera así.

Futabasha anunció que se encontraron unas pocas páginas del manuscrito del manga. La serialización de Crayon Shin-chan fue prorrogada por otros tres meses y concluirá el 5 de febrero del 2010.

I was at a comic book store on Sunday catching up on a few books from October — Crayon Shinchan vol. 9 and 20th Century Boys vol. 5 — when the store manager, gesturing at Shinnosuke, asked if this was the author who’d died recently.   I didn’t know; I’m not one to follow news much recently and the death of a mangaka, unless it’s one of tremendous international fame, isn’t likely to make the local San Diego paper, where I still get most of my news (I’m unable to stay up to 11, and lack the patience to mine the Internet for relevant articles besides those gadget blogs).

Indeed, he had recently died under uncertain circumstances — there is some speculation that he committed suicide, which got me thinking again of motivations.  Although the manga he’s most famous for, Shinchan, isn’t as immediately recognizable as, say, Ranma or Dragon Ball Z, it’s gotten a fair following, and the anime used to show regularly on the Adult Swim rotation, which is where we were exposed to it.  And yet I can see where success was a trap:  there was no room for the characters to grow, no fleshed-out storylines (the last few books have been fairly weak, in fact, compared to the hilarity of the first ones); after a while the jokes would seem oddly familiar or the plots would grow more far-fetched.  And yet it’s all that people would expect from Usui:  more butt jokes, more outrageous situations, and you can do the same thing for only so long (with the exception of Garfield, perhaps, but I’m convinced that “Jim Davis” is some sort of obscure anagram for “the Devil”) without growing weary of it.

It’s not clear to me that that would have been sufficient reason, though, and we’ll never know the real reason with all this endless speculation.  How do you keep from being crushed by other folks’ expectations and perceptions?  People project their own expectations on performers and artists — see the joke about Pagliacci* — and without knowing their private lives, isn’t it unfair to judge someone just by the mask they keep by the front door?
