Body Armour Stage 1

I’ve made a start on this. The mannequin cost $15 from a shopfitters. I was going to collage it in decorative papers, but the shop I was going to get the paper from has gone out of business. Sooooo, I had to rethink what I was going to do. I decided to use text as a base for whatever might appear next. I purchased a couple of ‘discard’ books from the local library for $1 each, but I wanted a variety of size in the text so I ripped interesting words from the newspaper and used those too.  I also found a big picture of a watch, which took my fancy, so that also went on.

I don’t really have a plan. I want to just go with the flow and see what appears. I will cover the whole thing in paper before applying anything else.

We are officially a month away from 2010. WOW! 2010!

Last year around this time, with my heavy Canon 5D in one hand and my starbucks coffee in the other, I was window gazing on Fifth Avenue, south of Central Park in New York City. While taking in details of the Bergdorf Goodman holiday window displays, I was savouring every sip of my mint latte. Though not because I wanted to keep warm (the weather was frigid, I thought my fingers were going to fall off), because I had just discovered, it had 550 calories. Sadly, I haven’t had one since.

I must’ve stood in front of Bergdorf Goodman for hours – taking photos (photos taken @night, hand held camera, using street light/display light), admiring the couture fashions, authentic antiques and appreciating the vision/imagination that went into the creation of the displays (while my hubby was dreaming inside his favourite building in NYC, Trump Towers) . I’m too busy this year to take a trip up to the Big Apple, though I hear the theme is ‘Alice in Wonderland’….

Vous pouvez tenter d’expliquer ça en disant je suis macho ou que je manque de confiance en moi, mais les filles vraiment trop grandes, ça me fait moyennement kiffer. Je ne dis pas qu’il y a une taille max à partir de laquelle mon cou ne supporte plus de se briser pour faire un bisou, mais une femme de 2m05, même si elle est mannequin, c’est trop pour moi. Alors le seul avantage que je verrais à sortir avec une fille de la taille d’Amazon Eve, top model californienne au corps gigantesque bien que proportionné, c’est de pouvoir rester debout pendant un cunnilingus (ouuuh, il a osé).

Le chanteur vient d’entamer un procédure d’adoption afin de devenir officiellement le père de Leni, la fille ainée de sa femme Heidi Klum.

 Le père de Leni est un patron de formule 1 italien nommé Flavio Briatore. Celui-ci  a rompu avec le mannequin allemand alors qu’elle était enceinte et  a ensuite abandonné ses droits parentaux. Heidi a ensuite rencontré Seal  qui était déjà à ses côté à la naissance de Leni. La petite fille qui a aujourd’hui 5 ans n’a grandi qu’avec le chanteur, c’est lui qui l’a vu naître et éduqué. Seal la considère comme sa fille et aurait déjà commencé les procédures pour devenir son tuteur légal avant Noël ! Le père biologique de la fillette aurait donné son accord.

Seal a confié : “Leni est mon premier enfant, comme les autres, je l’ai sentie bouger dans le ventre de sa mère, et j’étais là à sa naissance“.

Après Leni, Heidi et Seal ont eu trois enfants : Henry 4 ans, Johan 3 ans et Lou, née le 9 octobre dernier.

Et comme le dit Gunter, le père de la jolie blonde : “Ils ont toujours formé une famille heureuse dans la vie, il faut maintenant qu’ils en forment une sur le papier“.

Three Men and a Mannequin

Male fashion catalogue models aren’t what they used to be!  Is that a mannequin on the left?  He looks a little stilted in his delivery. 

The only professional amongst the four of them seems to be the guy with the crease ironed into his jeans giving us a bit of ‘blue steel’…..he’s pitching that ensemble like he means it.

If you want to look like a freshly upholstered sofa – then go no further than h.i.s for all your fashion accessories.

Daul kim avait 20 ans. Ce jeune mannequin Sud-coréen avait débuté sa carrière florissante de top model international en 2006 en Coré avec Vogue et était à l’apogée de celle-ci. Elle venait de défiler pour Chanel, Dries Van Noten et Alexander McQueen. Un de ses amis l’a retrouvé sans vie ce jeudi dans son appartement parisien du Xème arrondissement…

La jeune femme se serait suicidée par pendaison. Cependant, la police qui a été alertée par l’ami de la jeune défunte, continue d’enquêter sur cette tragique histoire.

Mercredi, la veille du drame, Daul avait écrit sur son blog (iliketoforkmyself.blogspot.com) : « Dis bonjour à l’éternité». En dessous de ce commentaire elle avait posté la bande son d’un titre de house avec pour légende « Meilleur morceau pour l’éternité »…

Pas de fautes !

We went to an optician today in search of a new pair of glasses for me, which is always half amusing half traumatic experience. At least for me. All these new (miss)identities. Plus I guess I’m not a regular customer. What I want are regular frames, discrete but also defined. Problems usually start with the word “regular” but today, we had more work and sighs with the word “discrete”. I mean, I don’t want a huge Armani logo screaming from the side of my frames. Nor any other huge and glittery logo for that matter. I’m not a fuckin’ mannequin nor an I a walking billboard. Like CC said, with a logo that size, they should give them to you for free.

The seller was a bit lost when I stated my no screaming logo wish and spent quite a few minutes searching at the far end of display rack and in the backs of the drawers.

Now you guys better remember to come back and get me after you’re done clubbing.

Last time you guys forgot, they took me apart, and it took you guys a month to figure out what they did with me.

Little Kermit

Thrift store shopping was so fun the last time I went. Here are some of the things I found. First up I found this cute little kermit key chain. It was in a big bag of miscellaneous toys I bought the bag because I saw a bunch of pokemon toys in it and my brothers are really into pokemon right now, so I thought I would surprise them. My next bag of goodies contained vintage cookie cutters. I was surprised at how good the condition was of all these cutters. I listed a few in my etsy store there was a Raggedy Ann and Andy set a Little Boy and Girl Gingerbread Man Set, and some really cool collection of playing card suit shapes with fluted edges. The ones I decided to keep were assorted sized hearts and flowers, perfect for the up coming holidays. I plan to bake batches of cookies and other treats for my love ones this year.

The next thing I found were Japanese fridge magnets they came with a set of regular letter and number fridge magnets. I’ve been wanting to get some of these fun fridge magnets for my son for some time now and have been having a hard time finding them. I was so stoked to see the Japanese ones thrown in there too like an added bonus. Too bad I don’t know any Japanese.

The last toy I found were these little 1inch cubes with letters in them. They interlock so you can spell out words. All the sides alternate capital and lower case letters. Each block has one letter on it. I’ve never seen anything like it before. I think it’s a teaching tool. What do you think?

I also got a great little hat mannequin for my Mario and Luigi hats.

Another day in the studio. Busy work. This time I worked with a child mannequin, which was slightly uncomfortable, yet also amusing.

It was a girl, but they cut off the top-knot to make it a boy. Someone messed up the order.

Today, again, I hodge-podged mannequins, which I have been doing for the past week and a half now. Though, unlike all the other times where nothing much else was going on in the studio other than work, my other supervisor, Leonard, who was the one that granted me this internship to begin with, gave a presentation about his work experience at Volcom and the company’s “image” to an art class from OOC. Today, Steve didn’t have any design work for me. So, he sent me over to the production studios across the street from the main building to help with some hands-on work. The guys over there had me help paper mache/hodgepodge mannequins. I worked a whole eight hours and didn’t even finish one, which they tell me is the average work speed. I wouldn’t say I had a fun time doing it because, quite frankly, it was a boring, repetitive and meticulous task, but it was nice to do something different.
