From Baghdad comes a sobering report that a coordinated series of attacks in Baghdad killed more than 127 people and wounded hundreds on Tuesday. Five separate attacks created the worst wave of violence to strike the Iraqi capital in more than a month.

It is the third time in four months that a coordinated wave of bombers has defeated Baghdad’s security and dealt a blow to the Iraqi government’s claims to have made the country’s streets safer.

The bombs detonated within minutes near the city’s main courthouse and the public works and finance ministries. The finance ministry had only recently moved to the site after its main headquarters was levelled by a truck bomb in August.

The President has condemned the bombings and has declared it as another attempt to topple the Iraq government, and to stifle peaceful progression of the nation.

I wonder, as we move our military forces into Afghanistan, how are we going to keep the peace in Iraq,or is this just a sign of what is to come when we evacuate the country…I guess only time will tell.

Calculated risks confuse the masses, but for the few who understand, its pure genius.

I have been pondering about the reports of the PLO Ambassador in Geneva, Dr. Ibrahim Khraisha, being instructed by President Abbas to defer the Human Rights Council vote on the UN Fact Finding Mission Report on Gaza until March.  The world over has been confused about this political flop. For the first time we are hearing Fatah and PLO officials questioning the president and his decisions.

Now what is at stake here? For many years Palestinian leaders and their supporters have been calling for the end of Israeli impunity and for the imprisonment of war criminals, from massacres to war crimes.  The first chance the Palestinians get at establishing a process sending their occupiers to the International Criminal Court they drop the ball and defer it six months.  WHAT? So many people were confused and are still confused. We all ask ourselves “WHY?”, well, I think I figured it out.

Since the inception of the Human Rights Council in 2007,  many nations, particularly the United States and Israel have called the body “bias and anti-Israel” which may or not be true, but what is true is that the 47-member body is not taken seriously, especially vis a vis the Palestinian Question and is becoming more and more irrelevant in the international arena.

What I think President Abbas is doing is deflecting the Goldstone report from being tainted by the Human Rights Council; making sure this report stays legitimate and relevant is very important to ensure its success in putting the criminals before the Court.

Libya, a current member of the Security Council in New York, has requested the Council on behalf of Palestine  to have an open debate of the Goldstone report on Wednesday 14 October.  Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Riad Al Malki, will set the case for Palestine at the Council.

Now what we have here is a “legitimate” body that will legitimize the report and speed up the process of the involvement of the Council with regards to referring the case to the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno-Ocampo.

The United States will abstain on the vote as they are not signatories of the Rome Statute setting up the ICC, but will push other Council members to vote against any resolution referring Israeli official to the ICC.
Knowing the current members of the Security Council, I think there is a very good chance of getting a decent resolution on the matter establishing a strict time-line for investigations and eventually referring the case to Luis Moreno-Ocampo.

Dopo l‘Aîd El Fitr e l’Aîd Al Adha, i marocchini si preparano a festeggiare l’Aîd Al Mawlid, domani 10 marzo 2009. Per il calendario musulmano si tratta del 12 R’abia 1° 1430 dell’Hegira. E’ un occasione per la comunità musulmana di manifestare la loro fede verso il Profeta e di ricordare le sue azioni e le sue parole (Hadiths). Per celebrare questo giorno, ogni regione del Marocco conserva le sue proprie tradizioni. A Casablanca ci si ritrova attorno al tavolo del ftour, si preparano le crêpes alla marocchina, “msemen“, “bahrir“e un pane speciale per la colazione. A mezzogiorno il cous cous o il tajine di carne e alle prugne. A Tangeri le donne preparano un piatto speciale per l’Aîd Al Mawlid, chiamato anche la “caliente“, i cui ingredienti sono la farina, piselli, acqua, olio, sale e uova. Una volta mescolati l’impasto viene versato su di un piatto in terracotta e cotto al forno. La festa del Aîd Al Mawlid è il momento del ricordo della vita del Profeta, la sua nascita, i suoi miracoli e la sua fede che ha fatto grande l‘Islam. Una grande veglia di preghiera è organizzata dopo la preghiera del Al Ichaâ nel corso della quale eminenti Oulema (teologi) e professori animano le cause della “souna” del  Profeta nella pratica spirituale soufi e l’esempio che deve essere seguito da tutti i credenti. La veglia dura tutta la notte ed è accompagnata da canti soufi e dei “madh” del Profeta. Una tradizione ancestrale si pratica a Salé con il Moussem dei Ceri (vedi anche alla Pag. I Moussem) di Sidi Ben Hassoun, organizzata dalla confraternita Hassouniyine. Questo Moussem riveste un aspetto religioso, artistico, culturale e di beneficienza. La città di Salé vive questo evento per una settimana e la processione dei ceri, che si svolge alla vigilia del Aîd Al Mawlid, percorre tutta la città subito dopo la preghiera dell’ Al Asr, in direzione del Mausoleo di Sidi Abdallah ben Hassoun. Riunisce nel suo percorso la popolazione delle due rive del Bouregreg. L’Aîd Al Mawlid è una festa religiosa popolare, una festa di colori, una festa di canti soufi e di trances, di magie musicali e dei rituali rivelatori dell’anima profonda del popolo marocchino.

Al Mawlid attraverso la Storia:

La celebrazione dell’Aîd Al Mawlid Annabaoui è un avvenimento che ha preso sempre più ampiezza nel corso della storia. In Marocco questa festa risale al regno di Mansour Addabhi. In effetti il sultano saadita aveva effettuato un viaggio in Turchia ed era stato conquistato dal clamore di questa festa in seno all’impero ottomano, in particolare dal corteo dei ceri. Di ritorno in Marocco introdusse l’insieme delle celebrazioni relative a questa festività. Queste trasformazioni coincisero con diversi cambiamenti in seno alla società marocchina di quei tempi con un affermazione sempre più importante dei sentimenti nazionalisti e l’emergenza di una cultura musulmana pregna di spiritualità, di zaouia (santuari), di soufismo e della cultura delle Chorfas (confraternite). Fu proprio in quell’epoca che che si configurarono le principali caratteristiche della cultura religiosa e spirituale del Marocco,  sviluppatasi attraverso il soufismo e le sue confraternite, propagandosi  poi attraverso tutto il Paese. La congiunzione tra il sentimento nazionalista e l’identità religiosa e spirituale si presento’ chiaramente durante un avvenimento che espresse e illustro’ il significato e la simbologia di tutto questo fervore. Fu la Battaglia del Oued El Makhazine, alla fine del XVI° secolo, con la vittoria di Al Mansour Addabhi; questo combattimento di difesa del territorio nazionale contro l’invasione portoghese gioco’ un ruolo decisivo nell’istituzione di questa festività religiosa, importante per la sua spiritualità ma anche per la sua secolare tradizione.

Cha của Mansour là người sáng lập nên Quỹ đầu tư Abu Dhabi Royal. Định chế tài chính này hiện nắm giữ 2,042% trong Mediaset – gã khổng lồ trong ngành truyền hình, phát thanh và in ấn của Berlusconi. Khoản cổ phần này như nói ở trên hiện do Khalifa quản lý.

Gia đình nhà Sheikh, ngoài ra, còn có 16% cổ phần ở ngân hàng Barclays (nhà tài trợ của giải Ngoại hạng Anh), sau khi chi 3,5 tỷ bảng tiền giúp bình ổn gã khổng lồ tài chính này trong cơn chao đảo vì bão tài chính hiện nay.

Barclays cũng đang nắm giữ 5,012 % cổ phần ở Mediaset, và là cổ đông lớn thứ hai chỉ sau Berlusconi.

Chưa hết, Milan hiện nằm dưới quyền quản lý của công ty Fininvest. Tại đây, các ông chủ người Ảrập cũng có cổ phần. Như vậy, tính về mọi đường thì kiểu gì Mansour cũng chẳng thiệt, dù Man City của ông có phải chi đến 108 triệu bảng.

“Sheikh Mansour biết rằng 108 triệu bảng ông ấy bỏ ra chẳng chạy đi đâu mà thiệt”, một quan chức giấu tên của Milan phân tích. “Hơn thế nữa, việc mua được cầu thủ hay nhất thế giới lúc này còn là lời quảng cáo không thể tuyệt vời hơn cho công việc kinh doanh của ông ấy”.

Tuy nhiên, mọi chuyện không đi theo hướng dự định của Sheikh Mansour. Những khoản hậu đãi kếch xù của ông không làm Kaka lung lay. Hôm qua, ngôi sao người Brazil này quyết định tiếp tục gắn bó với sân San Siro.
