24/7 Uptime was still on the drawing board when I spoke at the University of Central Lancashire New Business Pitch event at the media factory in Preston. We had already decided on our core solution of a “green IT” solution based on server virtualisation using Citrix Xen server and everRun from Marathon Technologies – and as you can see I was educating my fellow IT professionals on the principal ofr our solution. This was before we had decided on our company name or started trading. The last part pertains to our off-site data backup solution that we offer to resellers.

We are of course up and running, and offer both these solutions and services to our clients.

Over the past two years, server virtualization has shaped up to be one of the most widely used technologies among the InfoWorld Green 15 winners. It’s a perfect example of a green technology, enabling organizations to get more processing power out of servers, thus reducing energy consumption, cooling requirements, and investments in new hardware. Further, it can allow companies to postpone costly, time-consuming, resource-intensive datacenter construction projects.

Given server virtualisation’s various merits, Forrester has pegged the technology as poised for significant success and one that offers a high business value-add. According to Forrester, server virtualisation is already being used at 46 percent of US enterprise organizations. Nearly 10 percent more are expected to adopt virtualisation in the next 12 months. As companies become more comfortable with the technology.

Adding on high availability technology such as those available from Marathon Technologies keep systems up and running 24/7 and eliminate previous risks of putting all of an organisations IT system eggs in a smaller basket.
