Yes, this is me procrastinating. I’m in for a pretty brutal week at school, and music seems like one of the only things that will keep me sane… that and chocolate covered almonds, naturally.

Regardless, I found this group while searching rumaging around on the internet. House inspired, yet still mellow enough to keep my heart rate and stress levels decently consistent.

Since the return of the romper (for shame, Ashley Tisdale), very little in the fashion world has truly put my Hanky Pankies in a ruffle.  And then Marc Jacobs jolted the industry entirely, reviving eye-popping neon additions and an amalgam of avant-garde textures, transferring his pension for visually bright, urbane pieces to his introductory line of Louis Vuitton monogrammed luxuries.  If the upper east were to ever join forces with the west village, this rags meets riches rendezvous might best be materialistically interpreted by a Marc Jacobs original.

While vamp might have been vogue for the past season in an attempt to be Robert Pattinson-chic, there’s no harm in letting the bat out of the cave, if only to catch a glimpse of daylight represented by livelier shades more reminiscent of a field of flowers than a vile of blood.  Angelina, your time is up.

Marc Jacobs has long encouraged through his designs to kick “normal” up a notch by transforming a typical item from banal to bold.  A white crew neck tee?  Think pink, with AKA New York. Leopard print scarf?  Think pink, with Tolani. Sumptuous silk tank?  Think pink, with Madison Marcus. Imbuing past preferences with a youthful bubblegum hue has the same effect as that show on TLC that makes haggard, borderline ogre-ish women look ten years younger.  A Chanel tweed coat will always be a must-have essential, but Marc Jacobs Collection’s new interpretation of Chanel-esque coats with explosive colors woven throughout (featured in this month’s In Style), melts away decades and transports the archaic entity to right now.

October might be long gone, but the mantra think pink is one to ponder come December when sprucing up the old wardrobe.

Le come back des cuissardes : good news or bad news??

Tout le monde l’aura compris : cet hiver les cuissardes ont fait leur come back, c’est le must have pour aborder le grand froid 09/10. Je dois admettre que lorsque j’ai vu cette new trend je n’étais pas fan, les cuissardes c’est du déjà vu et on (moi la première !) leur colle une étiquette pas très valorisante pour ne pas dire autre chose ! Elles demandent beaucoup d’attention pour se faire oublier tout en gardant ce petit (et j’ai bien dit petit !) côté sexy. . On les a vues sur tous les runway de la Fashion Week RTW Fall 09. Petit refresh….

Surtout évitez le look cuissardes et mini (short, jupe, robe), pas la peine de ressembler à Julia Roberts dans Pretty Woman pour trouver son prince charmant !

Ingredients
Note: One fluid ounce equals two tablespoons. 

2 2-inch cubes watermelon 
1/2 ounce simple syrup 
2 ounces Bacardi Límon 
1 ounce triple sec 
1/2 ounce Rose’s lime juice 
1/2 ounce sour mix 
Garnish: 1/2 lime

Simple syrup: 
1 cup granulated sugar 
1 cup water in a saucepan

Mixing Instructions
Fill a highball glass with ice. Add juice and rum, and top with chilled champagne. Garnish with a pineapple leaf.

Simple syrup: 
Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil for a few seconds. Set aside to cool.

What’s problematic about falling love with this season’s statement necklace? Unfortunately, the semi-coy, strategic mixing of this piece into your daily wardrobe has a much shorter shelf-life then the accessories of seasons past .

When I discovered the Made Her Think line, I was overcome by curiosity, smitten with their distressed, rusted and well-worn industrial pieces. Since acquiring my well-loved longer version of this necklace, I have made it an inseparable, day-to-night  permanent staple.

As all you ladies know, getting ready for a night out usually entails a brief run-down of outfit possibilities with the usual coterie of gal pals. However, it is a fairly bad sign when your friends can stop you mid sentence, their ESP rendering you completely speechless, knowing your exact strategy for accessorization. This may make for an embarrassing moment now and again, but I will easily overlook a brief cheek flush for this must-have accessory.

Marc Jacobs and I have always had a strange relationship. He was one of the first fashion designers that I really fell in love with. Maybe it was his always present grunge aesthetic that I always sensed. This collection he did for his diffusion line in Fall 2008 just blew me away. It was received luke warm by a lot of fashion journalists but I loved it.

He mixed a punk with the 80s in such a grown up way. The looks remind me of what I would wear to an 80s party. Try to mix it up a little! Go Punk! Go Marc!

I love the boots with the buckles and the zips. He really hit the nail on the head with the accessories this season.

A l’occasion des fêtes de fins d’années les grands magasins du boulevard Haussman revisitent leur vitrines pour nous présenter des décors animés toujours plus féeriques. C’est un lieu de promenade privilégié pour de nombreuses familles.

• Les Galeries Lafayette :

Du 5 novembre jusqu’au 31 décembre prochain, les vitrines des Galeries Lafayette ont pour thème la gourmandise.  On retrouve des décors en chocolat, avec des petits gâteaux, des lapins, des oursons et autres poupées de pain d’épice. Les personnages animés portent des créations de Jean Paul Gaultier, Kenzo, Marc Jacobs,  Zadig & Voltaire, Maje, Manoush.

L’inauguration des vitrines et l’illumination des façades ont eu lieu le 5 novembre en présence de l’actrice Elsa Zylberstein et Tina Kieffer, directrice en chef de Marie-Claire, voir la vidéo ici. La présence de célébrités lors d’événements est une technique marketing devenue courante pour de nombreuses marques, pour plus de détails sur ce sujet vous pouvez consulter  ce blog.

• Printemps :

Depuis le 12 novembre les vitrines du Printemps Haussman sont placées sous le signe de la Russie. Les décors animés aux couleurs slaves et motifs folkloriques nous plongent dans une ambiance festive. On admire les quatre poupées russes couture conçues par Karl Lagerfeld pour Chanel et John Galliano et Victoire de Castellane pour Dior.

Les deux figurines créées par Chanel ont les traits de personnages célèbres et symboliques dans l’histoire de la maison : le Duc Dimitri, le grand amour de Coco Chanel et la Princesse Nadejda une amie de la créatrice, habillée d’une robe du dernier défilé Paris-Moscou en version miniature.

John Galliano et Victoire de Castellane ont imaginé pour Dior une poupée inspirée du folklore russe avec toque en fourrure, robe traditionnelle et bottines lacées. Les doigts de la poupée étant parés d’une collection de bagues multicolores.

Hahaha it’s funny how everything ends up in a cycle, couture becomes second-hand becomes vintage becomes antique becomes couture. French fries become fat become gym membership become skinny become french fries. And now runways become teen-blogger talk become designer talk become runways. Yes, this season the designers went back to (their interpretation of) childhood. We saw backpacks, kittens and birds and dogs, chunky heels, mary janes, pre-adolescent models (and A-lines, ruching and layers to accommodate their underdeveloped bodies), jackets, peacoats, collared shirts, peter-pan collars, lots of bows (in the hair) and hearts and polka-dots, pleated skirts, braids, afro’s, tweed, ruffles, awkward layering, pink, navy, orange, thigh high socks and even a ring binder inspired clutch at Miu Miu

With a (thank god!) injection of…sexy! At Miu Miu we saw an artistic naked print all over the dresses, shirts and skirt…(who doesn’t want that!), conservative dresses were updated with not-so conservative panels, fabric were sequin and crystal sprayed, there was transparency, a lot of it, hems were chopped short and sportswear was made out of revealing netting. All hail Muccia Prada who does Miu Miu, she reinvented the 14-year-old, kept her geekyness and laughter but made her sexy, sophisticated and professional. “I was questioning innocence, questioning youth.”

But is it really surprising? No! What was Nicole Phelps talking about when she reviewed Miu Miu? “They didn’t quite fit into this season’s naïf narrative. But they did make playing grown-up look like a lot of fun.”(she’s right about the second part!) With teenage bloggers rising to new heights (think Tavi Gevinson from Style Rookie on the cover of Pop, Bryan from BryanBoy at Marc Jacobs -got a bag named after him- and Vogue Russia, Jane Aldridge from Sea of Shoes at Elle and Crillion dressed in Chanel Haute Couture and Noa Leijdesdorff from Brains and Beauty at London Fashion Week and NET-A-PORTER.com) “Talks to her friends on the phone like an Editor in Chief talks to her PA, stomping around like mini Editors shooting street-style pictures like Mini Sartorialists and getting press passes confiscated by security for being underage” (a not so kind but humorous piece) written by Isaac Lock about Noa Leijdesdorff for the LFW Daily. It’s teenbloggers that constantly push designers boundaries, we have no needy publisher to satisfy or important advertiser to hold on to…we can say exactly what we think. We’ve gone back to having total absolute fun something lost sometimes in the commerciallll environment these days.-

One word about Louis Vuitton ss10, yesyesyes when you separate all the fabrics and pieces and accessories -I mean come on, you can recognize Marc Jacobs styling in 1 second…horror horror- you can see beauty, but lets not get carried away shall we? Marc Jacobs is a genius, and he likes to have fun, and go crazy, and wear skirts…and we love him! But Louis Vuitton is bought by le riche! And the 14 year olds we know don’t shop Vuitton, it’s the 44 year olds…maybe he’ll have to rework this one slightly for the hanger. Marc we’ll forgive you for this one, the music, starting two minutes early without half of the front row arriving and “so wrong they’re so right” clogs made up for some lost points.

¿Quién no ha caído en la tentación de sentirse posh por un día? Atrás quedó lo de ser “reina por un día”, ¡si es mucho más entretenida la vida desenfrenada y de despilfarro de las chicas posh!. Pero la historia de este maravilloso neologismo inglés que se personifica en Victoria Beckham “Posh” (o Spice pija) y en otras celebrities que se mueven felizmente en el terreno del pijismo absoluto y excesivo -¿hortera?- tiene su origen en la historia de la navegación inglesa del siglo XIX.

En aquella época los colonos ingleses viajaban a la India a bordo de los transatlánticos de la compañía P&O donde los billetes de primera se marcaban con las siglas P.O.S.H. ; Port Out, Starboard Home ( babor a la ida, estribor a la vuelta; donde se encontraban los camarotes con sombra, los más fresquitos y claro, los más caros). Así lo cuenta Juan Campos Calvo-Sotelo en su magnífico libro “Náufragos de antaño. Los grandes naufragios en la Costa de la Muerte en el siglo XIX“:

Así son las cosas, antes lo posh era viajar en un camarote con sombra y ahora lo es comprarse las Kellogg’s Barbie mientras se decide en cuál de los Hoteles Hilton del mundo pasar la próxima noche, o vaciando tiendas de Prada, Gucci o D&G, entre otras actividades. Si les sirve de consuelo… las chicas posh también compran en el Flea Market vestidas con “lo primero que encuentran en su armario”… Aunque una vez acabada la compra llamarán a la Posh Suprema (Vicky Beckham) para que les ayude a encontrar casa en Beverly Hills (más en Moss asks Posh to find her a home).

Basta uma peça comum cair nas mãos de uma celebridade para virar ícone fashion. Aquilo que passaria batido aos nossos olhos torna-se instantaneamente objeto de desejo. Essa estratégia de usar celebridades para divulgar produtos é sucesso.

Em 64, quando os Beatles desembarcaram no aeroporto JFK, John Lennon estava segurando o modelo Innovator – bolsa de viagem da companhia aérea Pan Am, presentinho pra quem viajasse na primeira-classe. Em 2007, a Pan Am e Marc Jacobs lançaram uma edição limitada da bolsa Explorer, réplica dos anos 60 com a assinatura do estilista na parte de trás. O mimo estava saindo por $ 149,00 – ainda não vi nenhuma perdida por algum brechó, a vendagem ficou limitada à loja do estilista, e quem comprou não vai doar assim tão rápido.

Ao me deparar com Davi Sommersfeld, estudante de Design Industrial da FAAP, que encontrou na praça Benedito Calixto uma travel bag da Air France modelo anos 60 não resisti ao click. Curioso: a aquisição aconteceu coincidentemente uma semana antes do acidente aéreo envolvendo o vôo 447 em Junho.

So today, or rather, yesterday, my friends and I wandered into Crossroads Trading Company to try to rid our blues. I bought three dresses, a beautiful print knit bolero, and a bright blue peacoat. (I’m satisfactorily happier now.) On the way out, I spotted Red Marc Jacobs Wedges and a stunning pair of Gray Stella McCartney Boots. (Thank the lawd they weren’t my size, or i’d probably be out $250 by now.) But they were pretty reasonably priced at $100 (MJ) and $150 (SM). So if ever you are in the vicinity of a Crossroads, go check it out in all its glory.

Speaking of two of my favorite designers in the history of HUMANKIND, below are some of my favorite looks from their Spring 2010 runway shows. Stella McCartney’s collection was magnificent and by gods, I swear I will be there one day! Marc Jacobs’ collections (both Marc by March Jacobs and Marc Jacobs) were BOTH marvelous, although I tend to shy away from the more (dare I say it?) young-y looks of Marc by Marc Jacobs. Still beautiful to behold, however. Onward maties!

Ahh, not only am I thankful for wonderful thrift stores, I’m thankful for the likes of you, Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs. (Really! Your designs make me so excited I probably would pee my pants if I saw them in person!) Your dominance in the fashion world is only evidence of your brilliant minds and ongoing greatness. I cut my Turkey in honor of you! (OK maybe not true, I don’t eat Turkey. Or meat for that matter… hm I should get that checked out. ) Have a great Thanksgiving, peoples! And don’t forget to be thankful for your bestest designers. (:

Planet Awesome Kid Pic

While skimming through my emails today, I came across the cutest blog.  Imagine a kids sartorialist and if you don’t know the Sartorialist, it is a  must see!  Both blogs post pictures of fashion spotted around the streets of the world’s major cities, their only difference is AGE.  Back to Planet Awesome Kid, its truly an awesome idea.  Kids nowadays are  wearing vintage Michael Jackson Tees, Marc Jacobs and Chanel bags, to H&M and Zara Kids.  They mix and match high and low end just like adults, and keep becoming more stylish with time.  The pictures are adorable, and I want to submit Nejmah, my first Cairo Muse to their blog.  She would be a great addition.  I hope you enjoy it like I did.

I admit it, it was the cap that first caught my eye! It happens often, that I get drawn by the bottle or the cap, only to discover later that I really like the fragrance itself. Most of my fragrances (I am not a stable person, I change fragrances as soon as something else catches my eye…eeer I mean my nose!) had elaborate bottles: Juicy Couture Eau de Parfum, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, Alexander McQueen Kingdom, Oh! De Moschino.

So, it was all bout the cap: that vinyl multicoloured flower, that reminded me strongly of Jeff Koons’ creations. As I later found out at the Lola website (yes it has a website of its own), the cap was designed by Marc Jacobs after twisting together layers of fabric to create an elaborate flower bouquet. And yes, as the website also points out, the cap is irresistible to touch!

So after adorning the cap, you move on to smell the fragrance, and as the cap promises, it is flowery enough (but not too much). It is a discrete, youthful and classy fragrance. It also reminds me of early spring (although it is winter now). The exact notes are (according to the Lola website):

Base notes: Vanilla, Warm Torka Bean and Creamy Musk

Heart notes: Rose, Fuchsia Peony and Geranium

Top Notes: Pink Peppercorn, Pear and Ruby Red Grapefruit

So…my only concern now is how to transform the cap into a brooch when the fragrance runs sort.

Genevieve’s great eye to detail, and visionary approach to design is making her an accessories force to be reckoned with. This it girl has proven she’s more than just a socialite turned designer, exploiting the title in an effort to stay relevant and stave of questions “what does she do?”. She is a designer– a real one.
