Tras el último capítulo de “Cinco Hermanos” (Brothers & Sisters) Fox emitió anoche el primero de la sexta temporada de “Mujeres Desesperadas” (Desperate Housewives) que no pasará a la historia por ser el mejor, me reí con algunos comentarios, sobre todo con la señora McCluskey (qué grande es Kathryn Joosten), pero como que nos espera más y más de lo mismo. Y es que, aunque siga la serie desde el principio, lo cierto es que en la segunda temporada se estancó, con una entrega bastante mala de la que se supo reponer gracias a unos buenos capítulos en la tercera y sucesivas.

Así, ya se nos ha desvelado quién es la “nueva” señora Delfino. Aposté por Katherine (Dana Delany) pero no, vuelve a ser Susan (¿qué le ha pasado a Teri Hatcher en la cara?) mientras la primera parece sufrir un brote psicótico. Claro que, como ya no está Edie (Nicolette Sheridan), con alguien tendrá que discutir Susan y no será con su hija Julie (Andrea Bowen) que ha vuelto a Wisteria Lane aunque parece que por poco tiempo porque el capítulo acabó con el vecino estrangulándola.

¿Qué vecino? Pues el hijo de los nuevos (por altura no era el padre) que también deben guardar un oscuro secreto, como todos los que acaban viviendo en esa calle. Por eso es por lo que se repiten como el ajo. Encima han tenido la brillante idea de hacer que Lynnette (Felicity Huffman) se quede embarazada una vez más, pobre mujer ¿para qué quiere más hijos si los que tiene ni aparecen? Encima gemelos. Y Bree (Marcia Cross) sigue liada con el ex de Susan (Richard Burgi) y a Orson (Kyle McLachlan) le han reducido su papel a más no poder.

Me falta Gaby (Eva Longoria), ella y Carlos siguen felices tras haber vuelto a llevar una vida más o menos acomodada con sus hijas y la sobrina de él, que le ha declarado la guerra a Gabrielle que parece que sólo quiere protegerla. Veremos que se cuece

Marcia Cross, Tom Mahoney and daughters, Eden and Savannah enjoyed a sunny shopping day at the Westfield Mall in Century City yesterday.

The Desperate Housewives actress and her family had lunch and then they enjoyed the music of a guitarist.

Marcia recently told Ellen DeGeneres that her girls are already particular about what they wear.

“I have one who will only wear navy blue from head-to-toe – that’s Savannah, who we call Savvy….Eden will only wear a green shirt and black pants.

“It looks like I’m a really boring dresser and I dress my kids that way, but truthfully, it was their choice!”

Vous vous rappelez sans doute des campagnes Neuf qui mettaient en avant des publicitaires discutant de la nouvelle pub de Neuf… Le concept était d’insérer un tableau dans le tableau afin de grossir – incognito – les traits “lourds” d’une réclame.
Voici maintenant un spot “so british” – découvert par Laura Dunn, notre envoyée spéciale à Londres – qui ravira sans doute les fans de Desperate Houswives…
Le concept utilisé est quasi-similaire à celui de Neuf Télécom. En effet, l’actrice Marcia Cross se voit proposer un contrat pour une campagne publicitaire… le tout formant au final la publicité elle-même. Jusque là rien de révolutionnaire mais je vous laisse découvrir l’annonceur…

Oh dear. This hasn’t worked out very well at all has it? The whole concept is lame, the execution is lame and the product is lame. This advert is one big bag of lame and I genuinely feel sorry for everyone involved.

You see, they’re trying to be clever by deflecting any criticism into the irony corner. The problem is that everything is true; Marcia Cross probably couldn’t get a product better than potatoes to advertise, she probably is horrified by that fact and her agent probably did try to convince her by providing a bevy of cooked red carbs.

Just because all involved are aware of the inherent lameness of the campaign doesn’t excuse them from it, not does it make them clever for dealing with it in such a postmodern way or part of the joke. It’s just a little embarrassing – and, unless I’m very much mistaken, detrimental to the product…

She’s horrified by the product and considers it below her standing, which would be fine were the celebrity endorsing it a genuine Hollywood star – but Marcia Cross isn’t a Hollywood star, she’s a slightly lame actress famous for one role in a not-very-good TV show. As a result this advert manages to simultaneously deride and insult the product it’s meant to be promoting.

It’s not self referential, it’s not postmodern, it’s not media savvy and it’s not clever. It’s lame.

Susan believes that Katherine attacked Julie because Angie put that idea in her head in last weeks episode. It would’ve made sense for Angie to say that if they were still considering Danny as their main suspect, but his name has been cleared. I have an inkling that she is covering up for someone else, say, Nick?

The detective that offers to investigate Katherine, Denise Lapera, has an old bone to pick with Susan. In high school, Susan gave her the nickname moose and stole her boyfriend. Seriously, who holds a grudge like that for like 20 years? That’s just a tad pathetic moose.

Moose talks to Katherine and learns Katherine’s alibi – she was on the phone with her Dylan, her no-longer-existent-on-this-show daughter. While moose is talking to Katherine, she learns that Susan shot Katherine and since Susan failed to report it, she arrests Susan for her “closure.”

Angie cooks a 10,000 course meal for Bree and Orson in hopes of Bree hiring her. Initially Bree says no until a sausages and peppers crowd catering job for 500 pops up and Bree will only be hired if she makes some authentic Italian food. Bree feeds Angie a sob story about an Italian food loving, burn victim friend in hopes of getting Angie’s recipes. Angie gives them to her, but then catches Bree making them for an anniversary party. Well, Angie calls Bree a 2-faced condescending bitch who will never make a dime off of her dead grandmother. Bree apologizes to Angie and hires her and of course they have a little heart to heart. Angie tells Bree if there’s one thing she knows how to do is keep things to herself. With Bree and Angie, it’s tack vs. candid.

Gabby starts homeschooling Juanita and gets completely stressed out about it. The Solis’ new housekeeper, Ivana, stops cleaning and starts teaching. Gabby of course doesn’t fill in Carlos about this, so he fires Ivana. Eventually, Carlos says he’ll get Juanita a tutor because Gabby being her teacher is ruining their relationship. What I would like to know is, since when does Gabby do everything Carlos‘ way?

Julie confides in Lynette that it was Nick she was having the affair with after Lynette over hears them fighting. Julie says Nick loves her and wants her to take him back. Lynette tells Julie that she will handle Nick. Lynette talks to Nick, but he freaks out saying that Julie’s leading him on and if Lynette tells anyone about the affair, she’s the one who’s going to be sorry. This is when the light bulb goes off in Lynette’s head that Nick might have been the one that attacked Julie. Lynette tells Tom this and they confront Julie about it, but Julie not-so-convincingly says he would’ve never done it. Lynette and Tom report it to the police, we’ll see what they do about it in the next episode.

This week we find out that Angie has known about her husbands affair for weeks. What we don’t know is how she found out. After Lynette and Tom reported Nick to the police, of course the cops wanted to talk to him but Angie lied and gave Nick an alibi saying that he was with her all night. Obviously, Nick doesn’t really have an alibi. Nick is starting to look pretty ding, dang, dong guilty. When Angie confronts Nick about the affair, she says that he can’t go anywhere and she can’t go anywhere so they have to get through this and she’s put him through a lot so he gets this one slip up and then she socks him. What is Angie referring to?

The moral of the story this week? The truth is, there is only so much you can learn from books. The only way to truly learn is from your mistakes.

My questions this week – where was Danny and Ana this episode and where has Cecilia been all season?

Next week – Gabby confesses sins and bribes a priest, someone is sleeping with someone, Susan and Katherine go to court and Gabby finds out that Lynette is pregers. I found the preview a bit confusing.

ABC’s Desperate Housewives

Celebrities were spotted yesterday in both New York City and LA celebrating Halloween with their kids.

Just like us, they toted them to Halloween parties and out trick or treating.

To add to the fun, many of them dressed up along with their kids and created a family theme!

It’s judgment day on Wisteria Lane.

I found this week’s Desperate Housewives to be a tad more amusing then it has been lately and filled with witty one liners.

Julie comes home from the hospital to quite the affectionate crowd. Honestly, way to cheesy for me. Blah. At her welcome home party she breaks up with Dominick, but the decision isn’t mutual. Then, Danny and Dominick have a “man-to-man” conversation in which we find out that Danny and Julie were fighting the night she was attacked because he thought she was lying about having a boyfriend, which of course turns out to be his dad. Dominick tricks Danny into not telling Angie about the affair, but don’t worry, I’m sure it’ll come out soon enough.

Mrs. McCluskey is back this week and confides in Lynette about her sex life. “When he’s down, it’s global, you know what I’m saying?” Personally, I think they should put Mrs. McCluskey into the story line using something other than her sex life. Anyway, so Lynette hires Mrs. McCluskey’s boyfriend, Roy, to be their handyman. Turns out, Roy’s the only one on the show who’s not afraid of Lynette and chooses to get Tom’s permission over Lynette’s because Tom is the “man of the house” and Lynette is “crunching Tom’s walnuts” which of course totally pisses Lynette off. When Lynette tails Roy, he says “Boy, you’re everywhere. We should get you a bell.” Clever Roy.

Laura Miller, played by One Tree Hill’s Barbara Alyn Woods, accuses Gabby of being a bad mother because she doesn’t hover over her kids 24/7. This ignites a fire in Gabby to throw the best kids birthday ever for Juanita, at which a monkey ends up trying to eat a clown. Success? Not so much. Funny? A little. It was all typical Gabby.

A maid at Bree and Karl’s home-away-from-home hotel finds out that Bree is cheating on her husband and decides to give her a little lesson on morality. “Cheating’s not a sin when you do it in pearls,” the maid said, sarcastically of course. Turns out the maid cheated on her husband and ended up losing him and her boyfriend and is now full of deep regret. Bree admits that she feels awful, but has no intention of stopping. “If you finish your magazine, there’s a bible in the nightstand.” Dude, this maid is funny.

Katherine continues  her fight for Mike, face-flirting with him during the neighborhood watch meeting. It is there that Susan finds out about Katherine hitting on Mike and threatens to seriously hurt her. Then, Susan shoots Katherine in the shoulder at the end of the episode. Complete accident of course. Julie had it because she heard someone lerking around outside, Katherine the spy, and Susan being the klutz she is, fires the gun. Well, the gun was given to Julie by Danny and it was registered under the Bolen’s real name, so Angie convinces Katherine not to call the police because if she doesn’t Mike will totally get back with her. In your dreams Katherine. And Angie, we’re going to find out your secret eventually, so how about you just give us a little hint to go off of, huh?

The moral of the story is, what happens when we start judging ourselves instead of just judging others?

ABC’s Desperate Housewives

All of the housewives were involved in the story line this week. The main character, or should I say characters, was not Lynette, but Lynette’s breasts. It made for a couple of comical scenes, particularly with Carlos.

Gabby kisses John, or rather John kisses Gabby and Ana catches them. At least in this episode she didn’t tell Carlos, but it’s not guaranteed that it won’t come out in the future.

Bree continuously bails out on work to continue her affair with Karl leaving all the work to psycho Katherine.

Katherine has seriously lost it. Although I have to admit, this is the most I’ve ever liked  Katherine. Watching her hop up and down outside  Mike and Susan’s house and imagining herself watching a ball game with Mike is all quite comical. Now that shes on the outs with Bree because Bree gave her the ax, I’m pretty sure she’s just going to keep losing it until she completely unravels.

Susan finds out this week that Julie quit med school and was having an affair with a married man. She is let in on this huge secret by Andrew, who yay, came back this episode. The married man, “D” that Julie has been seeing is Dominick Bolen and Danny hints that he knows all about this affair by his comments to his dad at his party. I’m pretty sure the mom has no idea. Anyone else think that the mother-son relationship in that family is kind of odd?

I agree with Erin, that it is pretty commonplace now for both the mother and father to work, and that the mother still assumes her role as keeper of the house, and it also does not bother me because that is how my family functions. It is kind of fascinating to look at how over the course of even the past decade that matriarchal roles in television and movies have changed. One specific Desperate Housewives character, Bree Van De Kamp, has in her own character transformed from the classical happy housewife and mother role to balancing her housely duties while having a career. There was a 5 year time lapse from one season to the next, and it was in that time that was saw huge changes in the way Bree’s character behaved. I wonder if it was due to popular outcry, that women don’t behave like 1950’s housewives anymore, that she was changed. But none the less, standards of women in the home are becoming more liberal, even on television. Here’s a few clips.

This week Gabby is reunited with her past lover and gardener John Rowland. Suddenly John owns a restaurant, which I have to admit is pretty random. Almost like it happened just to add drama? The question is, does Gabby still have feelings for John? And his John really going to date Ana? Seriously? Bree and Carl’s affair gets more tangled this week when Bree realizes that she has more than just sexual feelings for Carl. Is it love? Maybe on Bree’s part but I’m not sure those feelings are reciprocated by Carl. Lynette finally tells her family that she’s pregnant. All of a sudden she is happy with her pregnancy? That was a very sudden shift in feelings. Bob is now Danny Bolen’s lawyer. I’m glad they’re putting Bob in the script more, but I sure hope Bob finds out something about the Bolen’s (which is eluded to in this episode) and breaks the rule of confidentiality. It’s a tad odd that you never see Julie in this episode. If Danny didn’t strangle her, then who did? I don’t know how much I believe his liquor store story. We will find out, but you can bet it won’t be until much later in the season. Watch The Full Episode Here

Well, people made such a big fuss about the show that it had to be overrated, right? And if you- like me- only a caught a glimpse of episodes randomly while trying to check James Denton out (or the women,if you prefer); it could have seemed to you that the shows plot was beyond implausible, the characters  unlikeable. Hence I really didn’t think the show was worth following. Oh, it was a real pleasure to come to realize that I couldn’t have been more wrong.

One night I came across Season 5 reruns and I had nothing better to do and that was it. I was hooked. The show is admittedly one of the most entertaining and original shows ever.

I used to think suburbia is boring. Oh, of course the houses look great. And of course it would be lovely to live on a street where you are close friends with your neighbors who are roughly the same age…But it would be boring. Being away from the city? Having a car as the only way of transportation? Having children around? Being married?? Being a housewife??? Oh well…of course these situations do exist. It is just that the women’s lives are never boring. And there is always so much cheating/lying/back-stabbing/plotting going on. Oh, I don’t mean these friends are doing those to each other. Oh no. But what happens with the other neighbors is always a riot!

Just on the top of my head- (from the first season alone):

* In the first episode the narrator (Mary Alice Young) kills herself. As she narrates and gives us clues, we put the pieces together and try to understand why she would do that. She had a loving son, a loving marriage and had great friends.

* Susan (Teri Hatcher) and Mike (James Denton)

She has a massive crush on the dreamy plumber/ the new neighbor Mike. He  is like a breath of fresh air to Susan’s  romantic life-after all Susan is the divorced mother of a teenage girl. Her husband has cheated and left her for another woman. But of course as hot as Mike is, things are complicated. He seems to be giving her mixed signals and we the viewer see what Susan does not. Mike has a lot of cash lying around, a gun in his belt, and plans& notes on the whole neighborhood. He is a man on a mission and it doesn’t seem like a very innocent one…

*Gabby  (Eva Longoria)

She is cheating  on her husband with her teenage gardener (Jesse Metcalfe).

* Lynette (Felicity Huffman)

She has 4 kids. She despises being a housewife as she used to be a top advertising exec. before she became a full-time mom.

*Bree ( Marcia Cross)

She is always groomed and made up. She is always prepared and meticulous and “perfect”. She is the perfect host and  her family is so bothered by this.

*Edie (Nicolette Sheridan)

She is hot and is not the least bit shy about it. Edie may be hot and festive, but she is not exactly a female loved by her peers. She is just too out there…

Well if you haven’t seen the show yet, you might think this is not complicated at all. Trust me, what you just read is the overly simplified version. The comedy, intrigue and the romance are well-balanced. The thing about these women are that they are not that desperate. Hell, they are not exactly just housewives either. Before Lynette quit, she was much more successful than her husband who is also in advertising. She is desperate because she has realized is that dealing with 4 small children is a lot harder than running a company. Susan illustrates children’s books. Edie is in real estate, Gabby is an ex runway model. Well, Bree is only a housewife but then she is so obsessed with it you can say it is a career for her: she does all her own cooking, cleaning,gardening,making her own clothes,fixing everything…

Gabby is only fooling around because her seemingly rich and romantic husband is just rich, inconsiderate and a workaholic. With her past career and good looks, it isn’t that hard to imagine she has the hormones and motives to match her gardener’s… Bree might seem like the mother and wife from hell but her son will be enough to make a lot of women not wanna have kids. Lynette has the tendency to hate her husband at times since he doesn’t seem to get what a difficult job she has at home and of course because he has made her pregnant 4 times. And the little baby is the least of her troubles. Susan has no idea about the past of the love of her life and she is a generally clueless person/mother/woman. Edie is…well,you have seen the picture. And while all of their lives are interesting and complicated, the darkest secrets might be about to come from their recently deceased friend; Mary Alice…

Now that season 6 started, I am onto the new season. Of course I had seen half of season 5 and I just finished watching seasons 1& 2. Even with this weird order I’m following the show, I love every second of it. I hope they have many more seasons and keep having mysterious new neighbors with dark secrets and a dangerous agenda…Oh and of course, kudos to Marc Cherry to creating the show. And hats off to the casting people!

There was an overdose of new storyline possibilities on desperate housewives tonight. Too much drama? No way, you can’t have too much drama. The big story this week was trying to decipher whether or not Danny strangled Julie. All the signs clearly point to Danny, but I can’t help but wonder whether there is more to the story – so far the mystery is too easy to solve. As I predicted, Katherine has pretty much lost it. It’s pretty comical. The oddest thing to me this week was Mrs. McCluskey’s new romance. I personally don’t prefer see Mrs. McCluskey is a post sex scene, but I’m glad she has gotten a larger role in the story line because she is just so funny. Minus Bree, the past two weeks have been all about the children of the housewives. I would like to see more about the housewives and less about their kids, unless the kid is Andrew who disappointingly hasn’t been on the show yet. Or Julie, I’m glad she’s back. Will the days ahead be worse? Of course they will because that’s what makes us tune in every week. Watch The Full Episode Here

This past Sunday was the season premiere of Desperate Housewives. If you are like me and have been holding your breathe since the season finale to see who Mike Delfino’s bride was, you can finally breathe. Thank heavens it was Susan. Really, Katherine has gone a little cookoo and I’m sure will continue to be throughout the season for dramatic effect. Some may think about Lynette’s reaction to her pregnancy and think it makes her some horrible person for not loving her unborn fetuses. Personally, I’m rather annoyed she’s pregnant, I mean seriously, hasn’t there been enough about her being a mom? They made the mistake of taking off her cute, younger, entertaining kids and putting through a growth spurt so they could become rather boring. Just leave it at that. Not too much happening with Gabby and Carlos this week. Of course the big drama this season will be without a doubt with the new residents of Wisteria Lane. Was that their son that strangled Julie? Oh yeah, and the whole Brie and Carl thing is just plain weird.

David Arquette proved last night that Hollywood truly has a heart for the hungry.  Mobilizing a
team of celebrities, Arquette brought much-needed attention to Feeding America and The Los
Angeles Area Foodbank with a high profile benefit show at Club Nokia.

Near the end of her set that closed the show at LA Live, Sheryl Crow burst forth with the
quote of the evening, “I love David Arquette so much, man!” she exclaimed. “Who else would
put himself out there like this?!”  Arquette is a dedicated giver to the foodbank in Venice, and
his wife, Courtney Cox, shared with the crowd that he faithfully volunteers there twice a week. 
Arquette brought his passion to feed the hungry that fueled the spirit of the evening.
  

“Rock A Little, Feed A Lot,” brought together an impressive lineup of musical talent that
included Crow, Ben Harper, Joel and Benji Madden (Good Charlotte), Katherine McPhee
(American Idol), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), and Jonny Lang.  Miley Cyrus,
Rob Thomas and OneRepublic also pre-taped special performances that were aired during the
concert.  Comedian Gary Shandling did a stand-up routine.

A long list of presenters were highlighted by the “Friends” reunion of Lisa Kudrow and Cox. 
Kudrow even grabbed a guitar and did an impromptu version of, “Smelly Cat,” during a break
in the action.  Other presenters included Marcia Cross, Isla Fisher, Alanis Morissette, Christina
Applegate, Allison Sweeney (The Biggest Loser, Days Of Our Lives) and Jeff Probst
(Survivor).
 
AEG Live was also a big winner of the evening, donating Club Nokia for the cause.
  
Informational and inspirational videos were intermingled with the live acts.  There was a
heartfelt video from Jennifer Lopez.  The main video of the evening showed an extensive list of
A-list actors doing work for this cause.  Those included: Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, Tyler
Perry, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Anne Hathaway, Adrien Grenier, Nick Lachey, Wyclef
Jean, Kevin Bacon, Jenny Garth and Scott Wolfe.

September is Hunger Action Month to help raise awareness and funds for the 35 million people
who are at risk of hunger in America.  Hunger Action Month, formed to help those in need,
bloomed from a day of service into a month-long campaign as the economy has taken a turn for
the worse and the demand for food assistance has increased.  “Many Americans are unaware
of the great demand for food assistance throughout the country.  The need for food assistance
nationwide has increased 30 percent throughout the last year and in many communities the
increase is much higher,” said Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America.  “We
are excited to team up with so many talented artists to shed light on Hunger Action Month and
the issue of hunger in America.”

Crow wrote a song benefiting Feeding America, called “All We Need,” which she unveiled at
the show.  It is a duet with Jason Mraz and will be available on ITunes next week.  Ben
Harper’s performance was mesmerizing and yet powerful.  After a rupturing number with a
slide guitar, he brought Tom Morello on stage and together the influential artists moved the
hearts in the room to action.  It was a talent filled night brought about by those who do.

Questa settimana, a Los Angeles si è svolto il concerto benefico “Rock a little, feed a lot”. Molte star presenti, tra cui due attrici non più giovanissime, ma sempre splendide ed amate. Sto parlando di Marcia Cross e Isla Fisher.

Marcia Cross non appare per niente come una casalinga disperata. Fisico perfetto, sottolineato dal top Dsquared² e dai “Twiggy”, leggins/jeans di James Jean. Un look total black, con tanto di smoky eyes e smalto nero.

Cross graduated from the Juilliard School in New York, and earned a master’s degree in psychology at Antioch University Los Angeles. She began her television career in 1984 on the soap opera The Edge of Night. She then moved from New York to Los Angeles, and soon landed roles in television movies such as The Last Days of Frank and Jessie James, co-starring with Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson. In 1986 she joined the cast of the ABC daytime drama One Life to Live, where she played Kate Sanders, until 1987.

In 1991, Cross guest-starred on the 13th season of Knots Landing as the wife of Pierce Lawton (Bruce Greenwood). She spent a lot of her screen-time on the show confronting Paige Matheson, played by her future Desperate Housewives co-star Nicollette Sheridan.

In 1992, Cross was cast as Dr. Kimberly Shaw on the FOX drama series Melrose Place. Initially cast for one season, she so impressed the producers that they kept bringing her back for more episodes, although she curiously didn’t become a full-fledged cast member in the opening credits until the fourth season. Cross’ character started off as a love interest for the character of Dr. Michael Mancini, but gradually became more and more mentally unbalanced, providing some of the show’s most memorable moments, which included blowing up the apartment building, trying to kill Michael, and stealing her neighbor Jo’s baby. She left the show in 1997, after five seasons, with her character dying.

After leaving Melrose Place, Cross guest-starred on series such as Seinfeld, where she played Jerry’s dermatologist girlfriend Dr. Sitarides (whom he mocked as “Pimple Popper M.D.”), and Cheers, where she portrayed Susan Howe, the younger sister to Kirstie Alley’s character, Rebecca Howe. She also appeared on the comedies Boy Meets World, Ally McBeal, Spin City, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show and King of Queens. Her dramatic roles include appearances on CSI, Profiler, Everwood and Touched by an Angel.

In 2003, prior to her role on Desperate Housewives, Cross spent a season starring as Linda Abbott on WB’s critically-acclaimed series, Everwood.

In 2004, Cross landed the role of Bree Van de Kamp on the ABC dramedy series Desperate Housewives.

On stage, Cross has performed in La Ronde at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, in Twelfth Night, or What You Will at the Hartford Stage Company, and in The Two Gentlemen of Verona at the Old Globe in San Diego. Her film credits include Living in Fear, Always Say Good-bye, Dancing in September, Bad Influence, and Female Perversions.

In November 2005, Cross appeared on the cover of the newly launched Psychologies magazine in the United Kingdom where she discussed her passion for psychology and therapy.
