There is really only one result I care about this evening, and I reckon I’ll give it its own post in the morning – so you’ll have to excuse me if it seems like I’m phoning this one in.

Calcio:

Juventus 2-1 Inter (Derby D’Italia) – Perhaps the most important game either of these teams have played yet this season, the Derby D’Italia is always a heated and highly-anticipated match between two of the peninsula’s best-supported sides. This match in particular had the potential to have an immediate effect upon the scudetto race; either consolidating Inter’s position atop the table or reviving Juventus’ flagging title hopes. What resulted was an intense and exciting match by which Juventus managed to steal a crucial 3 points from i Nerazzurri; ensuring that this year’s scudetto race is well, a race. La Vecchia Signora opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a set piece when Felipe Melo inadvertently volleyed a Giorgio Chiellini header past the fingertips of a flailing Julio Cesar and across the line. Juventus went up 1-0 and to top it off Jose Mourinho got himself sent to the stands after this play for sarcastically applauding the referee for awarding the free kick. It didn’t take long for the visitors to equalize though, with Samuel Eto’o leaping onto the end of a Dejan Stankovic cross to head past Gigi Buffon and restore parity in Torino. The sides went into halftime level and would remain that way until the 58th minute, when Claudio Marchisio scored what I wouldn’t doubt is the greatest goal we have seen from Juventus yet this season. Momo Sissokho fired a speculative long-range effort at Julio Cesar, who parried but couldn’t hold on to it. Enter Marchisio, who dashed to the loose ball, turned Walter Samuel inside-out with some slick footwork and then buried the ball neatly overtop of Cesar and into the back of the net. In the remaining half-hour of play, tempers flared, with Mario Balotelli elbowing Felipe Melo and then going to ground when the Brazilian retaliated, drawing the midfielder the red card. Balotelli’s ugly side showed through with the constant jeering from the Juventini and perhaps the crowning moment of the match for the home crowd was the young striker lining up to take a free kick and falling firmly upon his behind. Even Gigi Buffon, normally the most level-headed man in the Bianconeri shirt, allowed his temper to get the best of him at the match’s end, nearly getting into a quite physical altercation with Thiago Motta. In the end, Juventus grabbed the 3 points, while Jose’s men merely grabbed some added incentive for these sides’ next meeting at the San Siro.

AC Milan 3-0 Sampdoria – Speaking of the San Siro, the Rossonero half of Milan were able to reassert themselves among the top of the table by drubbing Antonio Cassano & co. at Milan’s famous stadium this weekend. Marco Borriello, Clarence Seedorf and Alexandre Pato each found the back of the net to pile misery upon i Blucerchiati, who began the season in red-hot form but have fallen upon hard times lately. By cruising to this easy victory, il Diavolo rise to second place in the Serie A table, and with the favour done to them yesterday by Juventus, they are only 4 points adrift of the league leaders. A far cry from the Milan squad who struggled so profoundly at the beginning of this season – Leonardo and his men have grown into themselves as a consistent and dangerous squad – and it’s all because they beat Roma 2-1 a couple of months ago. Froci.

Fiorentina 2-0 Atalanta – The funny thing about calcio is that due to the nature of the language and the culture, sometimes two different teams will share the same nickname. Therefore, while one Nerazzurri squad tops the table, the other Nerazzurri are the league’s veritable whipping boys. Last week Atalanta fell at home to Roma (woo!) and this week they provided an easy three points for La Viola in Firenze. Juan Manuel Vargas and Alberto Gilardino provided the pair of goals that separated i Gigliati from their visitors – the Tuscans now sit in a 4-way tie for 5th place with Roma, Genoa and Sampdoria. They trail Parma by a point.

Football:

Manchester City 2-1 Chelsea – All good things must come to an end. Carlo Ancelotti’s men had been flying high in the Premiership, having sealed victories over each of their fellow ‘Big Four’ teams with a 3-0 victory over Arsenal last weekend. Who would’ve thought that it’d be the Citizens, who had not been able to do better than a draw in their previous 7 league fixtures, that would finally burst the Blues’ bubble and bring them back down to earth. However, things initially started off pretty well for the visitors in the Eastlands. Only 8 minutes into the match Frank Lampard fired on Shay Given’s goal only for the Irish keeper to deny him and then Nicolas Anelka; on the third rebound, however, Given’s parried ball struck the back of Emmanuel Adebayor, defending on the touchline, and this time the keeper was helpless to keep the ball out. 1-0 Chelsea. The big striker got the chance to atone for his sin just under half an hour later, however, when Shaun Wright-Phillips’ shot took a deflection in Chelsea’s box and fell at the Togolese hitman’s feet – this time he directed the ball into the right goal to make it all square at the City of Manchester Stadium. Things really started to go south for the visitors when Carlos Tevez’s rather tame free kick was able to beat the wall and Petr Cech to give the home side the lead on 56′. But the disaster was not complete yet. On 81′ Didier Drogba was fouled within City’s area – as always, Frank Lampard stepped up to the spot. By this time, however, tempers were flaring and Lamps was visibly unsettled as he took the kick. His effort ultimately was poor, and Shay Given saved it quite easily. Manchester City went on to hold out for the remaining 10 or so minutes and Chelsea dropped three points that would have given them a commanding lead of the Premiership table. If there are two things that are costing Chelsea right now, they are: a) conceding on set pieces and b) failure to convert penalties. And believe it or not, those two factors are costing the team in a way that not even Roman Abramovich’s bottomless pockets can repair.

Manchester Utd 4-0 West Ham – With Chelsea stumbling it the front of the pack, it seemed almost as though United smelled blood; they were quick to capitalize on the league leaders’ mistakes by doing their very best to catch up with them. While the Blues were facing defeat at the City of Manchester Stadium, the Red Devils were completing a rout of Gianfranco Zola’s West Ham at Upton Park. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men knocked four goals past a sorry Hammers side, with Paul Scholes, Darron Gibson, Luis Antonio Valencia and Wayne Rooney each finding the back of the net to keep West Ham hovering just above the relegation zone and cut Chelsea’s lead to only 2 points.

Arsenal 2-0 Stoke City – Arsenal bounced back from last week’s defeat to Chelsea and a midweek loss to  Manchester City that saw them knocked out of the Carling Cup by defeating Stoke City 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners had a chance to take control of the match on 20′ when Andrei Arshavin was taken down in Stoke’s area, but Cesc Fábregas failed to convert the resulting penalty. Arshavin would nevertheless put his side ahead just a few minutes later, when on 26′ he completed an angled run into the box and slotted a low strike home to beat Thomas Sorensen. The home side nearly doubled their lead minutes later when a shot from Fábregas rattled off the post. It would be substitute Aaron Ramsey who would finally put Arsenal two up in the 79th minute, again with a run into the box followed by a low shot to beat Sorensen. This victory sees Arsenal retain their 3rd place spot above Tottenham Hotspur by a single point.

Liverpool 0-0 Blackburn – Liverpool failed once again to get themselves back into the Premiership race by drawing what is an admittedly difficult fixture away at Ewood Park. Sam Allardyce’s men were able to grab a valuable point off the visiting Merseysiders, with Paul Robinson playing the hero for the home side and rejecting the myriad chances that Liverpool were given to attack the Rovers’ goal. It’s difficult to say who provided the Reds’ best chance on the evening (though Daniel Agger’s late 30 yard screamer is a contender), but easy to say that England-hopeful Robinson was at the very top of his game and simply would not be beaten. Seriously, Rafa Benitez unemployment watch anyone?

Futbol:

Messi bagged a brace to secure victory for Barca

Barcelona 3-1 Deportivo – It was the Lionel Messi show as the Blaugrana dismantled Deportivo La Coruña away at the Estadio Riazor. The diminutive Argentine proved that they don’t hand out the Ballon D’Or for nothing by scoring twice and menacing the home side’s backline throughout the entirety of the match. Messi opened the scoring on 26′ with a supreme individual effort before Deportivo were able to equalize after defensive errors saw Adrián through on goal. The deadlock would last until the 79th minute, when again it was the Ballon D’Or winner, this time scoring from a strong header to restore his side’s lead. Zlatan Ibrahimovic would put the icing on the cake, blasting into the top corner of the net on 87′ to seal victory for Barcelona and secure their position atop the table.

Real Madrid 4-2 Almeria – Both Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo had a bit of a rollercoaster night at the Bernabéu on Saturday. After Sergio Ramos opened the scoring for the home side on 30′, Almeria were able to respond with Soriano and Kalu Uche scoring twice in the span of 5 minutes to put their side ahead of Los Galacticos. Ten minutes later, a goal from Higuaín assured the home crowd that Manuel Pellegrini’s men were not finished yet. Near the 80th minute, Madrid were offered the chance to get ahead again when Cristiano Ronaldo was downed by keeper Diego Alves. CR9 stepped up to the spot, but failed to convert the penalty, and in a display of poor showmanship was seen to be sulking even after Karim Benzema tapped in the rebound to put his side ahead. Ronaldo would make up for his error on 85′ when a beautiful play from Higuaín gave him the perfect opportunity to put his side up 4-2. The game wouldn’t end on a high note for Ronnie, however, as he was sent off just minutes later for his second yellow of the match. As I always say, all’s well that ends badly for Cristiano Ronaldo!

Fußball:

Bayern München 2-1 Mönchengladbach – Mario Gomez and Holger Badstuber were able to provide the difference for Bayern as they worked back to their winning ways at the Allianz-Arena on Friday evening. Gomez gave his side the lead on 19′ with a well-executed turn and shot into the bottom corner of the visitors’ net. However, Roel Brouwer would equalize for die Fohlen less than 10 minutes later, when a bad defensive mistake allowed Michael Bradley’s pass to slip through the Bayern backline; Brouwer only had to slot home past Hans Jörg-Butt. Butt was Bayern’s best man on the pitch for large stretches of the evening, pulling off a string of incredible saves to stop the likes of Juan Arango and Jean-Sébastien Jaurès. Arjen Robben made a substitute appearance in the second half and was immediately effective; his daring runs won a free kick for the home side just outside the 18-yard box which Holger Badstuber duly launched into the back of the net on 75′. Friday’s victory sees Bayern at 4th in the Bundesliga standings and finally starting to gain ground on the leaders after Die Roten got off to a dismal start to the season.

The Hunter: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

After making the move from Real Madrid to AC Milan during last summer’s transfer window, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been a shadow of his former self. 13 weeks into Serie A play, and 5 matchdays into the Champions League season and ‘The Hunter’s’ aim has been anything but deadly, failing to score even a single goal. This disturbing slip in form had sent Italian media outlets into full-blown rumour mode, claiming that the club and Rossoneri Vice-President Adriano Galletti were unhappy with the Dutchman’s play, and that the side were looking to move him out of the San Siro in favour of somebody who could live up to their potential. On Sunday evening, away at Catania, Milan manager Leonardo opted to leave the young Dutchman out of the starting XI in favour of the strike tandem of Marco Borriello and young Brazilian phenom Pato. However, late into the match Borriello was relieved of his services (it was a weak game on his part to say the least) by an eager to please, yet snake-bitten, Huntelaar. As the match progressed into the dying minutes it looked as though the striker would be able to do little to break the stalemate that had developed between the Italian giants and a defensively determined Catania squad. However, in the 93rd minute The Hunter showed a glimpse of his former self, taking dead aim at net and unleashing a bullet that squeaked beneath the outstretched keeper from the Sicilian outfit.

Huntelaar proceeded to run directly to the Milan supporter section, jumping and celebrating as he ran, showing the Milanese “tifosi” that the hype surrounding his transfer might have been justified afterall. Just over one minute later, he proved it. Taking a pass on a backheel flick from fellow sub Filippo Inzaghi, Huntelaar proceeded to run away from the net only to blindly turn and chip the ball into the top left hand corner of the net over the unsuspecting Catania keeper, creating a cheddar bomb that nearly brought a tear to my eye. Needless to say, Signore Galliani was quick to issue a statement saying that Huntelaar was staying put, and that Milan was happy to see something come from their 15 million Euro investment.

With such a stunning display of fortitude, gusto and overall talent, Huntelaar has shown that he is still in fact ‘The Hunter’, the very same who tore up the Eredivisie with Ajax, and who had excellent performances during his brief stint with the then Dutch-heavy Real Madrid. Moreover his performance has once again had the Italian media, specifically those with Milanese tendancies, hailing him as the first true successor to Marco Van Basten’s legacy. While similar statements were made with reckless abandon while Huntelaar was at Ajax (another of Van Basten’s old squads), one does not want to put the cart before the horse. One thing is for certain though, with Huntelaar’s return to form, Milan will be exponentially more exciting to watch in the coming weeks as they mount their attack on table toppers, and city rivals Inter. At the very least, Huntelaar has garnered a starting XI spot for both the next Serie A matchup as well as the upcoming, and determining, Champions League round robin matchup against Zurich come December. I for one am looking forward to seeing The Hunter’s kill count mount.

Non sembra trovare pace la vita sentimentale di Aida Yespica. Da quando la showgirl si è lasciata con l’ex difensore del Genoa (ora in Turchia al Besiktas), Matteo Ferrari, si è aperta la caccia al suo cuore. Finita la storia anche col milionario Emiliano Rodriguez, la nuova fiamma della venezuelana potrebbe essere ancora una volta un calciatore. Si tratta di Momo Sissoko, centrocampista della Juventus che, come riporta Chi, non avrebbe gradito la presenza dei paparazzi all’uscita di un locale milanese.

I due, secondo il giornale, si sarebbero scambiati una serie di sguardi fino a un primo avvicinamento. Dopo un’ora di chiacchere avrebbero deciso di lasciare l’Armani Caffè quando il giocatore della Juventus si accorge della presenza dei fotografi all’esterno della discoteca. A questo punto si scatena la rissa con una persona che accompagnava Sissoko a distruggere i vetri delle auto dei paparazzi e la Yespica decide di andarsene. Alla scena ha assistito, ammutolito, anche l’attaccante rossonero Marco Borriello.

La dirigenza rossonera cerca di mettere ordine tra le pedine a disposizione del tecnico Leonardo. E’ ormai noto che la zona nevralgica e deficiente

La rimonta dei rossoneri sarebbe stata completa se solo l’arbitro Brych avesse convalidato il regolarissimo gol di Pato. Il Milan c’è e lo ha dimostrato con l’ennesima prova di qualità, corsa e sacrificio riuscendo a riprendere un Real Madrid giunto a San siro con tutte le intenzioni di conquistare l’intera posta in palio. E alla fine, se Inzaghi (entrato al posto di un superlativo Borriello) avesse concretizzato un assist al bacio di Pato, il Milan avrebbe fatto filotto contro le merengues.

Primo tempo, specie nei 20′ iniziali, di marca blanca fino al gol di Benzema abile a trasformare in rete una respinta di Dida su tiro di Kakà. Il Milan ha saputo riorganizzarsi guadagnandosi un calcio di rigore (dubbio) per un fallo di mano di Sergio Ramos su cross di Zambrotta. Ronaldinho dal dischetto non sbaglia.

Nellla ripresa rossoneri più corti e Real fuorigioco sul pressing. Ronaldinho rinvigorito dalla buona prestazione dispensa assist e giocate. Ci prova Pato, poi è la volta di Thiago Silva e Ambrosini di testa, ma Casillas è salvo. L’ingresso di Inzaghi porta apprensione nella difesa di Pellegrini e in due circostanze Super Pippo va vicino al gol. Il tecnico del Real si affida a Raul che appena entrato fa correre i brividi lungo la schiena dei tifosi milanisti ma Dida è impeccabile sulla potente conclusione dello spagnolo.

Alla fine è 1-1, un risultato comodo per la formazione di Leonardo che resta in testa grazie allo scontro diretto vinto al Bernabeu.

Ottenere i tre punti a Tel Aviv contro un avversario ostico, specie tra le mura amiche, era importantissimo per la squadra di Ferrara che non attraversa il suo migliore periodo di forma. E’ stato un guizzo di Camoranesi sul finale del primo tempo a segnare in maniera indelebile la gara dopo una prima frazione di gioco in cui la Juve ha alternato buone giocate a pericoli. E’ stato ancora una volta Buffon a tenere in partita i bianconeri evitando la capitolazione con un doppio intervento.

Nella ripresa la formazione di Ferrara è riuscita a gestire bene il possesso palla rintuzzando le avanzate del Maccabi senza correre particolari rischi. Il match termina 1-0 per un risultato risicato nei numeri ma fondamentale per il prosieguo dell’avventura in Champions.

Well, it’s the morning after Halloween and I will assume that many of you, like myself, are nursing wicked hangovers. Therefore I’ll try to keep it simple – bright lights and big words are the enemies right now.

Football:

If this sight makes you drool, you might be a Scouser.

Fulham 3-1 Liverpool – Well, it seems that the scousers are back in the soup (see lobscouse), having been roundly trounced at Craven Cottage by ultra-defensive enemies of everyone, Fulham. Diomansy ‘Yes that is his name’ Kamara gave the home side an early lead on 24′, which Fernando Torres would cancel out (by virtue of a terrific volley) just before the half. The second half would begin inauspiciously, but in the final 20 minutes it all began to unravel for the visiting Reds. Substitute Erik Nevland restored the Cottagers’ lead on 73′, and Liverpool’s efforts to first back to level terms took a couple of swift successive blows when Jamie Carragher and Phillip Degen were sent off within two minutes of eachother. If that wasn’t enough, the killing blow would come on 87′, when Clint Dempsey netted again to put Fulham two up and send Scousers everywhere into fits of despair. Is it time to begin a Rafa Benitez unemployment countdown?

Arsenal 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur – Well, the Spurs have made a positive enough start to this season under Harry Redknapp, but they weren’t good enough to beat an in-form Arsenal side at the Emirates Stadium in the North London derby this weekend. Robin van Persie bagged a brace, one on either side of the half (42′, 60′), while captain Cesc Fàbregas added his own goal just after the Dutchman’s first on 43′. Tottenham simply had no answer for the Gunner’s swift, fluid football – especially since they were missing the important trio of Aaron Lennon, Luka Modric and Jermain Defoe. Not a result that will much please ‘Arry, but at least Arsene Wenger had a banner evening; besides putting Arsenal right at the heels of United in the table, it was also the Frenchman’s 1000th point as a Premiership manager.

Chelsea 4-0 Bolton – Déjà vu, much? Yesterday’s victory was the second time in one week that the high-flying Blues have absolutely dismantled Bolton by a score of 4-0. Carlo Ancelotti’s side haven’t been scored upon since they dropped points against Aston Villa several weeks hence, but their opponents’ nets have been absolutely overflowing. Chelsea have established something of a rhythm of starting late, and stayed true to that form: Frank Lampard opened the scoring two minutes into first-half added time, and even then only on a spot kick after Jlloyd Samuel hauled down Didier Drogba in the penalty area. However, Chelsea would come to life in the second half, and the Wanderers were helpless to watch as Deco, then their own man Zat Knight and the finally Didier Drogba all found the back of the home side’s net. What utter destruction – next weekend’s fixture against Manchester United should be one to watch.

Manchester Utd 2-0 Blackburn – The Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov were on target for United as Ferguson’s men blew past the Rovers this weekend. It’s nice to see the oft-invisible Bulgarian show up for a match every once in a while, and he made his presence known early in the second half with a strike that put the Red Devils ahead on 55′. That lead would be enough to see them through to the dying moments of the game, when Wayne Rooney would add his name to the scoresheet and simply put the game out of the Rovers’ grasp.

Futbol:

Barcelona 1-1 Osasuna – If the last couple of weeks have shown us anything, it’s that Barcelona and Real Madrid, the Giants of Spanish football, are anything but invincible. Barcelona faltered yesterday in their quest for La Liga dominance, drawing away at Osasuna. The match was a fairly sparse affair with Seydou Keita only opening the scoring in the 72nd minute after some extended and very Barca-esque build-up. However, the night was not to be Barcelona’s, as deep into injury time Javier Camunas raced up the left flank and launched a low, hard cross across the mouth of the net. Gerard Piqué, rushing back to defend his goal, inadvertently collided with the end of the cross, deflecting the ball past a scrambling Victor Valdés and into the back of his own net. A hugely disappointing result for Barcelona, who seemed well on their way to 3 points until the unfortunate, and costly, error. Piqué’s couldn’t do much about it, and shouldn’t really be held responsible – but lord knows he will.

Higuain would make the difference for Madrid at the Bernabéu.

Real Madrid 2-0 Getafe – It is remarkable that despite every match being (at least) 90 minutes, and every match (starting, at least) with 22 players on the pitch, often it only takes one player and a very short spanse of time to completely change the course of a match. Such was the case in Real Madrid’s victory over Getafe at the Bernabéu, in which Gonzalo Higuaín scored twice in the span of 3 minutes to give his side a commanding lead over their visitors. Los Blancos were forced to play for the majority of the match with only 10 men after defender Raúl Albiol brought down Getafe striker Soldado on the edge of the penalty area. However, Higuaín’s efforts ensured that the 10-man Galacticos would nevertheless come away with 3 points – with Barcelona’s misfortune, Manuel Pellegrini’s men now trail by only 1 point.

Calcio:

Mazzarri's comeback kids celebrate their namesake.

Napoli 3-2 Juventus – Forget Partenopei. Forget Vesuviani. Forget Azzurri. Walter Mazzarri’s Napoli are the comeback kids. Behind Juventus 2-0 in Torino, with 30 minutes left in the game, most teams would simply lose hope – give up, close up shop and try not to concede any more goals. Not Napoli – or at least, not this reincarnated Napoli. A pair of goals from David Trezeguet and Sebastian Giovinco had seen Juventus get ahead of their visitors in the first hour of the encounter. Defensive errors had proven costly for the Southerners, as it was Matteo Contini’s mistake that provided Juventus with their second goal. However, the substitution of Jesús Alberto Dátolo for Hugo Campagnaro would revitalize Mazzarri’s side, and in the span of 6 minutes, the deadly combination of Marek Hamsik and Dátolo were able to draw their side level with La Vecchia Signora with 25 minutes left to play. This sudden leveling of scores seemed to have Ciro Ferrara’s men reeling, and they were very much on their back heels as they wondered what had happened to their comfortable lead – the tactician’s solution was to bring on Amauri, who did so well in i Bianconeri’s dismantling of Sampdoria in midweek. Unbelievably, it would be Napoli who would break the deadlock with just 9 minutes left in the match – it would be Hamsik who would grab his second of the evening, crashing a poorly cleared ball into the roof of the net and all but securing victory for his side. Juventus would come back to life in stoppage time, and seemed on the verge of undermining Napoli’s glorious comeback, but ultimately the only thing they would come away with would be a red card for their Caveman Brazilian striker Amauri, who went crashing headlong into Napoli keeper Morgan De Sanctis in hopes of equalizing, only to boot the netminder in the face and be sent off. A result which should have Napoli fans absolutely rapturous and should shut up Juventini quite nicely for the time being. Che bella partita!

AS Roma 2-1 Bologna – He’s back, and we’re back. For now. It seems that Mirko Vučinić has finally found his lost form – the Montenegrin put in a man of the match performance this afternoon to ensure that Roma snapped their losing streak and grabbed all 3 points against lowly Bologna. It seemed like a familiar story – Roma had the lion’s share of the early chances and dominated the game from the outset, but it was Bologna who took the first lead in the match when Marco Di Vaio got behind the Giallorosso defense and set up Adailton for an easy tap-in on 32′. We’ve got no Francesco Totti, no Daniele De Rossi (suspended) and, it seems, no hope. Here’s where the story changes though; Roma didn’t roll over and die, but rather equalized not 3 minutes later when Mirko Vučinić found himself, the ball and a golden opportunity, and (this time) duly buried it. It was the first time in recent memory that Vuči has been what he should always be (except in the presence of Er Pupone): the best player on the pitch. Boy, did it make a difference. Jérémy Menez also had a good match, though he was anonymous at times; it would be his shot that would rebound out of the arms of Emiliano Viviano and straight into the path of Simone Perrotta, who buried the sitter. That’s right, Perrotta, King of doing the exact opposite of that, buried a sitter. I’ll give you a moment to let that sink in. Anyways, we won the match, and should take heart from it – Vuči had a good one, Menez had a good one, Mexes had a good one, heck even Motta had a good one. Let’s just hope the next few can be good ones too.

AC Milan 2-0 Parma – Another man who found this form this weekend was Milan’s Ronaldinho, who ran Parma ragged and provided Marco Borriello with both of the goals that would separate their squad from what has been an impressive Parma side this season. The first game in only the 12th minute, as ‘Dinho executed a masterful zigzagging run before slotting the ball through to Borriello, who coolly finished. That lead would last most of the match, but the pair weren’t finished yet, and deep into second-half injury time, Ronaldinho would send an arcing cross through the penalty area; Borriello, having acres of space, met the end of the pass with a perfectly timed bicycle kick, completing his brace and a solid afternoon for i Rossoneri. AC Milan now moves up to 4th place and it seems that Leonardo, whose job looked so imperiled just a few short weeks ago, has finally gotten into the swing of things. Good for Milanisti, I suppose.

Inter 2-0 Livorno – Inter was able to do this weekend what Roma couldn’t on Wednesday – beat a team that is seemingly destined for relegation, and do it comfortably at that. Diego Milito and Maicon found the back of the net for i Nerazzurri, the former scoring his second goal in 2 games since returning from injury. Gotta make up for lost time, right? With this victory, Jose’s men sit 7 points clear atop the Serie A table – same old, same old.

Fußball:

Bayern München 0-0 VfB Stuttgart – Mario Gomez’s return to his old Bundesliga stomping ground was a quiet affair, a goalless draw marked by very even play, despite the home side firing on all cylinders early at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Neither side created any clear-cut chances, and so neither side was able to best the other.

Luigino Vallongo è stato un allenatore vincente, uno dei pochi qui a Savona, ed infatti nel suo palmarès c’è la Coppa Italia di serie D vinta con i biancoblù, ormai diversi anni fa (stagione 1990-1991), durante la gestione Grenno. Alcune critiche ingenerose ricevute dai giornalisti locali (che gli rimproveravano la scelta di rapporti meno stretti con i calciatori, ai quali si rivolgeva dando del lei) e il non sempre leale sostegno della tifoseria (che allora era più numerosa, occorre dirlo) lo portarono a scegliere di andarsene dalla Liguria, chiamato altrove, in serie tra l’altro assai più prestigiose, dopo un anno e mezzo passato in riviera (sostituendo Mauro Della Bianchina nella sfortuna stagione 1989-1990).

Chi ha vissuto quel periodo ricorderà con piacere la bella impostazione di gioco e le grandi doti tattiche di un trainer che sapeva imbrigliare qualunque squadra: quell’anno, due delle favorite, la Pistoiese dei record la quale vinse poi il campionato e la Sestese, dovettero arrendersi alle sue alchimie di gioco, la prima battuta per 1-0 al Bacigalupo, alla fine di un match equilibrato. I giornali toscani, commentando quella che sarebbe stata l’unica sconfitta della Pistoiese in tutto il campionato, sembravano tanto intimoriti da immaginare che forse la squadra non avrebbe ottenuto la promozione così facilmente.

Da quell’annata singolare, Vallongo ha sempre allenato tra i professionisti, anche se una volta il suo nome è stato avvicinato al Pavia di Riccardo Ferri (allora in serie D): prima in terra natia (è di Terralba), in particolare all’Olbia (1991-1993, con due piazzamenti notevoli in C, come l’ottavo e il sesto posto; 1995-1997, chiamato invece per salvare la squadra dalla retrocessione, evitata in entrambi i casi), ma anche lontano dall’isola, come quando sfiora la C1 col Legnano di Valentino Cuccunato e Ulisse Rasa (1993-1994; nella stagione successiva, ottimo ottavo posto), arrivando terzo, o come quando, subentrato a Chierico, riesce nella disperata impresa di salvare il Novara (1998-1999), che al momento era terz’ultimo.

Negli ultimi anni, poi, la carriera di Vallongo ha subito una impennata decisiva: Luigino è diventato secondo di Nedo Sonetti, con cui aveva condiviso alcuni anni da giocatore allo Spezia, e con lui è arrivato in serie A.

Nella stagione 2000-2001, è in serie B con Sonetti, che lo impone nel contratto al presidente della Salernitana Aliberti: il duo sostituisce Oddo, ma, anche se il contratto che firmano entrambi è un biennale, vengono sostituiti in corsa. L’anno dopo, i due sono ancora in serie B al Cagliari, che salvano, prendendo il posto di Antonio Sala e del suo secondo Giulio Nuciari. Cellino, che è presidente della squadra sarda, li conferma per la stagione 2002-2003, ma li esonera immediatamente dopo una partita persa in Coppa Italia, richiamando Giampaolo Ventura.

Sonetti, però, alla sesta di campionato finisce al Palermo (sempre in serie B). A quanto pare, Vallongo invece resta legalmente tesserato per il Cagliari, anche se risulta lavorare per la nuova squadra di Nedo. Alla fine, se la cava perché la Disciplinare lo ammonisce e nient’altro.

Il 2003 è l’anno della prima panchina in serie A, sempre con Sonetti: subentrano alla quarta giornata sulla panchina dell’Ancona. La stagione è piuttosto travagliata. Va meglio nel 2005-2007, quando ritornano sulla panchina del Cagliari, che Tesser, Arrigoni e Ballardini stanno portando alla retrocessione. I due arrivano alla 12° giornata e riescono ad ottenere una salvezza quasi miracolosa, partendo dalla penultima posizione in classifica.

Ancora in serie A sono nel 2006-2007, alla guida dell’Ascoli, dove giocano, tra gli altri, Bjelanovic e Di Biagio. Sonetti ha infatti preso il posto di Tesser a metà novembre. Quella della salvezza è però una mission impossible. I due, così, si giocano la conferma per la stagione successiva, dove gira la notizia che Sonetti è candidato alla panchina del Livorno. Intanto, Vallongo gira come osservatore e, tra l’altro, è a Marassi a visionare l’allora punta del Genoa, Borriello. A novembre, Sonetti ritorna al Cagliari con un contratto biennale: al suo fianco ancora Vallongo. La nuova avventura alla corte di Cellino dura pochissimo: a prendere il loro posto, Ballardini.

Insomma, Vallongo, che a quanto pare è ancora in attività col suo sodale Sonetti, l’anno scorso al Brescia, tra alti e bassi, può dire di essersi costruita una carriera formidabile. Per un tifoso biancoblù che lo seguì in quella trionfale annata, anche questa può essere una soddisfazione.

Pato mencetak dua gol Milan saat melawan Siena.

Kendati aksinya belum dapat disaksikan di layar kaca, berita kemenangan AC Milan 2-1 atas Siena pada Sabtu lalu (22/8) cukup menyejukkan hati para penggemar Rossoneri di Indonesia. Hasil buruk selama pramusim layak memunculkan keraguan bahwa Milan memang belum siap bertarung memperebutkan scudetto. Tapi hasil pertandingan pertama Serie A musim ini telah memberi harapan baru dan langkah Milan akan lebih kencang melaju. Alexandre Pato, penyerang muda Brasil bermain cemerlang memborong dua gol Milan. Ronaldinho mampu tampil gemilang dan menjadi kreator terciptanya tiga poin pertama Milan. Kombinasi bek tua-muda Alessandro Nesta dan Thiago Silva menjadi benteng tangguh sektor pertahanan, sementara Mathieu Flamini bermain bagus di lini tengah. Bahkan Marco Borriello pun tidak mengecewakan turun sebagai starter berduet dengan Pato, kendati belum mencetak gol.

Pada Sabtu depan (29/8) akan terjadi ‘grande partita’ ketika Milan menjamu Inter Milan di San Siro. Semoga tren positif Milan bakal berlanjut di pekan kedua nanti. Kita juga masih menunggu debut Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, penyerang Belanda pindahan dari Real Madrid yang di pekan pertama belum bisa tampil karena menjalani hukuman larangan bermain. Mudah-mudahan kita sudah dapat menjadi saksi serunya pertandingan ‘derby Milano’ tersebut di rumah kita masing-masing.

Della serie… c’eravamo tanto amati…

Urla, toni ironici e parole pesanti. Così Marco Borriello ha “investito” l’ex fidanzata Belen Rodriguez quando lo scorso week end, a tarda sera, l’ha vista all’Osteria del Corso, a Milano, seduta al tavolo con due suoi amici. Belen non ha fatto una piega, ha sorriso ed è andata via. Borriello, per calmarsi, ha ordinato una tisana.

L’episodio è stato rivelato dal settimanale Chi, sempre molto informato sulla situazione dei due ex fidanzati.

Borriello è furibondo con Belen non soltanto per il suo comportamento sull’Isola dei Famosi, (quando flirtava con Rossano Rubicondi, marito di Ivana Trump) che portò alla rottura fra l’attaccante del Milan e la showgirl argentina. Ad imbufalire Marco sono state le foto hot di Belen e Fabrizio Corona, scattate durante la vacanza maldiviana della nuova coppia e puntualmente finite in Rete.

Il bel calciatore, sant’uomo, evidentemente ha la memoria corta… forse non si ricorda che anche lui era stato immortalato con Belen in pose non certo caste, che avevano occupato le prime pagine di tanti giornali di gossip…

250 mani sono state impresse sulla tela.
Più di 1250 dita si sono dischiuse in un’immagine allegorica del sostegno e della solidarietà.
AIL, Associazione Italiana contro le Leucemie – Linfomi e Mieloma di Milano e Provincia, ripropone per la sesta volta l’asta “Una mano per AIL”, usando il simbolo della mano quale metafora del gesto di aiuto che si prefigge con la raccolta fondi, da destinare alla realizzazione di progetti sociali.
L’iniziativa, che nelle scorse edizioni ha goduto dell’apprezzamento di critica e pubblico, ha caratteristiche singolari sia per la particolarità della proposta, sia per la finalità dell’evento.
Avvalendosi di una formula originale e suggestiva anche quest’anno AIL ha chiesto a personaggi del mondo dello spettacolo, della cultura e dello sport, un piccolo gesto eloquente: dare una mano all’Associazione donando l’impronta della propria mano.
67 sono state le adesioni ed ogni impronta è stata poi consegnata ad altrettanti pittori che traendone ispirazione hanno elaborato le proprie opere d’arte esclusive.
Beatrice Buscaroli, curatore della 53ma edizione della Biennale d’Arte di Venezia, quest’anno ha appoggiato l’Asta di AIL elaborandone il testo critico e cita: “Dopo cent’anni noi tutti oggi ci troviamo nella possibilità di imprimere il calco della nostra mano facendola diventare la scaturigine di un’opera d’arte che, a sua volta, inserita in un sistema specifico, potrà diventare risorsa per una causa civile di alto profilo, di profondissima sensibilità umanitaria.”
Sensibilità dimostrata negli anni da molti pittori che con grande generosità hanno contribuito a rendere l’asta un evento artistico sempre più di rilievo. Il Padiglione Italia di Biennale d’Arte annovera quest’anno tra i suoi artisti, Marco Lodola, Davide Nido, Matteo Basilé, che nel passato e nel presente hanno progettato e realizzato opere per AIL.

L’evento milanese si svolgerà a Palazzo Clerici il 28 maggio mentre l’evento romano si terrà a Palazzo Massimo Lancellotti l’11 giugno. Accoglierà personaggi famosi, personalità ed esponenti di Istituzioni Pubbliche e Private per lasciare un segno forte e significativo. Il ricavato della manifestazione sarà infatti devoluto alla campagna di raccolta fondi “AIL Sostiene. Sostegno a Medici e Ricercatori, un Impegno per il Futuro.”
La raccolta fondi dell’appuntamento romano, invece, servirà a continuare a finanziare L’ospedale Ematologico Domiciliare Romail- Giuseppe Papa.
