Ah, it’s the other gorgeous George. For some weak-minded reason every time a new George Benson album comes out I am interested enough to hear it and hope that it will be as good as the early ones – that the guitar playing will match those real jazz discs he made in the 1960s, that he will once more skirt pop music in the subtle way he did on his first few Warner Bros discs.

And every time I am mostly disappointed but still mildly entertained in places.

Well, this time it’s mostly entertainment and only mild disappointment. This is probably the closest Benson has got to the vibe of Breezin’ and In Flight since, well, Breezin’ and In Flight.

Listen to his solo and skat solo on Show Me The Love, the way the beat changes up a gear for the solo on Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, and his gospel vocal on A Telephone Call Away. The last named is a lovely duet with Lalah Hathaway with sumptuous strings, Hammond and saxophone (Gerald Albright) accompaniment. Other tunes in this soul-pop selection come from Smokey Robinson (One Like You), Tony Joe White (Rainy Night In Georgia) and Christopher Cross (Sailing). And Nuthin’ But A Party is a fine and funky outing with Norman Brown trading guitar and vocal lines with George, while Marcus does his wiry, popping bass thing beneath.

The tastiness of the arrangements, the overall sound and the great grooves are explained in part by the name Marcus Miller in the credits. But there are other solid gold names there too, like Ray Parker Jr, Wah Wah Watson, Lee Ritenour and Steve Lukather on guitars, Greg Phillinganes on piano, Rod Temperton on keyboards, Paulinho Da Costa on percussion and Tom Scott on saxophone.

It’s like the ’80s and ’90s never happened. Nice one George.

A little bit about Deborah Flores

DEBORAH FLORES
http://www.DeborahFloresMusic.com

The debut CD for veteran songstress of the performing stage Deborah Flores, has arrived! With a seamless flow of sounds from soulful R&B and contemporary jazz to neo-soul this album has it all! Deborah’s seasoned voice belts out effortlessly in the R&B songs “Movin On” and “Sneakin Around”. “Sneakin Around”, an original composition, filled with a funk filled playful ibe, “Dream on Dreamer” and “Ain’t No Sunshine” (a Bill Withers classic) display the mellow silky flavor of smooth jazz with some unexpected yet warmly welcomed surprise turns along the way. Bassist, Marcus Miller takes it to another level in Deborah’s rendition of, “Do I Do” (By Stevie Wonder). There’s even a touch of some soft rock found in the Lenny Kravitz classic, “I Belong to You”. Adding a more mature vibe to the song list, Deborah sings in sultry elegance the jazz standard, “The Man I Love” featuring a stellar performance by Eric Marienthal on sax. Undoubtedly you will not be able to sit still during Deborah’s original song, “Move Your Body”, which evokes an urban funk sound that commands you to do just that!

Producer, Jeff McCullough, owner of Tree Hill Media, applies his creative soulful talent to every song. With over 20 years in the business, Jeff’s expertise will keep you moving and grooving. Jeff’s musical arrangements take the songs by storm! Each melody, each composition, takes you on another musical journey making this CD an experience of pure joy!

Deborah Flores, in her unique style and soulful vibe, provides something for everyone’s musical pallet.

DAVID ISAAC joined April Sims for a radio interview on Friday, October 23, 2009. Please click above to listen to the interview.

A little bit about David Isaac

Growing up in Detroit in the 60’s when the streets sang and flourished with the sound of Motown and all of its artists, the Soul of Aretha Franklin and Jackie Wilson, and many Gospel artists proved to be the training camp of life for David Isaac. David became involved in the music industry as a young musician as Detroit evolved into the place for Funk bands in the 70’s from the likes of Parliament/Funkadelic (which he briefly worked with) or Rock from Bob Segar, he became an Engineer and Programmer as it became the home of R&B, Techno, and Gospel from artists like Anita Baker, DeBarge, The Winans, or Juan Atkins in the 80’s (all which he worked with), then he became a Producer in the 90’s as Hip-Hop and Rap made its mark in Detroit from such artists as Eminem, and J. Dilla, all which explains the energy int the environment of Detroit. After working with artists like Parliament/Funkadelic, R. Kelly, Stevie Wonder, El Debarge, Aaliyah, KEM, Aretha Franklin, Barry White, The Clark Sisters, Thomas Whitfield, Fred Hammond, Anita Baker and more, David decided (with the influence from top musicians and engineers) to make the move to Los Angeles, California. There he worked with such artists as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Puff Daddy, Babyface, Billy Idol, Whitney Houston, Bette Midler, Toni Braxton, and more within his first eight months in L.A.! David met and began to work with Bass Legend and Producer, Marcus Miller, and from there he used all of his talents with such artists as Luther Vandross, Eric Clapton, Wayne Shorter, David Sanborn, and Roberta Flack, to films such as “I Think I Love My Wife”, “Head Of State”, “Love Jones”, “The 6th Man”, “Serving Sara” and more, to television’s “Everybody Hates Chris”, to producing the Funk ride at the opening of Seattle’s “Experience Music Project”. So far, David has earned three Grammy Awards and many nominations. You can hear some of his work on Chris Rock’s latest movie,“Good Hair”. He is also wrapping up his own forthcoming R&B/Funk CD with the help of a many R&B legends, like Patrice Rushen, Marcus Miller, Nathan Leftenant from Cameo, and James “D-Train” Williams. The single, “Let This Party Be” is creating quite buzz around the world. David also is developing tutorials and a website that empowers anyone to be a professional producer or mix engineer online.

I did some quick portraits before he went on stage at the Shepperd’s Bush Empire in London followed by some live shots during the gig itself. Being a bassist myself I had to remind myself to stop being in awe watching him play and make sure I would get the shots!

Larry Graham, the inventor of the slap technique, is one of the most important contributors to the electric bass. Everyone from Louis Johnson to Flea to Marcus Miller has been heavily influenced by his heavy right-hand technique. He played with Graham Funk Railroad in the 1970s. His ability to groove and sing at the same time is remarkable and he is arguably the first solo bass guitarist. Pay attention to how close to the bridge he slaps the bass and how much power he puts into each stroke.

Erst spielt Tower Of Power.

Mmk so…I like music that takes me somewhere else…whether its the music or the vocal performance here are my fav. examples of such

First, Jazmine Sullivan’s In Love With Another Man. The vocal performance on this song is just beautiful…the organ in the background, the simple oohs & ahhs, and then the message. You really can’t beat it. Everytime I hear this song I get chills and its just one of those you have to close your eyes and rock to. Hell you might even end up crying with 1 hand waving in the air…its that powerful of a song. Mmmmmm yes yes! lol….

Next, gotta give it up to queen Bey for Resentment. Ok so lets be real…the first time I heard this song-I played it over and over, and sang it through tears. Has this happened to me? Hell no LOL but Beyonce took me there…I felt HER pain, baby I was looking at Jay-z and Rihanna with *side-eye* for 4 months… This may be my favorite Bey song ever, I really don’t know how she could out-do herself here. Anybody who ever got cheated on, play this song and see doesn’t it show you the rainbow of emotion from that situation. GLORY!

OK so often times I like music “stripped” probably why I like folk music so much…808s and other background noise just annoys me, get to the point….Here’s a song that I don’t even know the words to lol, because I kind of ignore them. Its almost like an accompanament only Frank McComb’s Intimate Time reminds me of those moments when for no reason your boo asks you to slow dance with them… Good stuff

Keeping in that same boo-loving mood…this next comes from one of my favorite artists, Amos Lee. His song Arms of a Woman feels like today (Sunday, rainy, lazy)…and I could imagine this being a raspy whisper-the humble beginnings of simple elegence.

Always a fan of karmic warnings… Marcus Miller’s Boomerang damn I wish this was in a movie…Somebody tell me if it is! I kind of love everything about this song, but here I’m definitely in a smoke filled lounge a la The Sanctuary, damn I could live in that movie (love jones).

Most people will associate Me’Shell Ndegeocello’s song Fool of Me with that whack movie Love and Basketball (sorry, not a fan) but whenever I hear it come on, my throat gets all dry and I can just imagine sitting looking through old photos, smelling an old t-shirt that still smells like him…and that horrible feeling in the pit of your stomach…*shivers*

OK yall don’t clown me for this lol, but I love this song. So honest, Nick Lachey’s Resolution I think my favorite part is that it slips into a minor key, which musicians will tell you always sounds “sad”. However, its not really sad, its that *sigh* right before you delete their number from your cell and realize that its over and you’re going to move on. Don’t sleep on Nick !! lol

And yall know I’m old school to my SOUL-and I love this song, and this group with their holl’n butts LOL. It literally makes me tear up every damn time I hear it…from the first three words…I’ma leave it as a surprise, just press PLAY.

In mina unui neavenit se transforma in ‘’stricalaizer’’, se duce dracului tot ritmul.

Mare pacat.

SMV bis parçası olarak Stanley Clarke’tan “School Days”i seçmiş. Ancak şarkının ortasında Marcus ve davulcu aniden “Beat It”e yatay geçiş yaptı. Victor, melodiyi çalarken Açıkhava’da herkes ayaktaydı, soloyu atmak da Stan babaya nasip oldu.

Not: Sarsıntılı görüntüler heyecanlanıp kıpraşan seyircilerle şarkıda kendinden geçip video çektiğini unutan müziksever kameramanın ürünüdür
