My favorite bit is when she owns up to why she was kicked off the Obama campaign: she couldn’t stand Sarah Palin’s politics, but she found her so sexy.

Cho’s new concert DVD is entitled “Beautiful.” If you’ve never heard her perform, check out her unabashed, hilarious comedy.

So, you hot pieces of ass, I’m participating in Women, Action, & Media’s benefit auction. There are tons of fun things upon which you might bid–for example, show tickets & a meet + greet with Lily Tomlin, Margaret Cho, or Cyndi Lauper! You can also bid on dinner with Jessica Valenti of Feministing, which is a website for man-hating bra-burners who are bound for Hell (but probs a girly lipstick feminist Buffy kind of Hell, with Spike and shit.) It’s a great fucking site.

And there’s lots more. But wouldn’t you prefer to bid on the following?

Comedian Sara Benincasa will write a personalized poem about how the winning bidder is the sexiest feminist person of all time. The winner will be required to fill out a short, exciting questionnaire about his or her favorite things and personal characteristics. The resulting poem will be free verse and will be presented in handwritten form amidst a delightful handmade collage consisting of shit she found in her apartment. It’s a poem AND it’s Outsider Art (TM)!

Of course you would. I’m like Henry Darger combined with Bella Abzug! Wheee!

Careful...she'll cut a bitch.

Against all conventional logic, the glass ceiling in the comedy world remains intact. One would think that if Joan Rivers and Phyllis Diller could achieve great success almost half a century ago, we’d be flush with popular and successful female comics in 2009. Instead, the woman with the biggest draw is Lisa Lampanelli, who has extrapolated “I’m fat and I bang black guys” into a large venue following. Meanwhile, the brilliant Maria Bamford – easily one of the ten best comics working today regardless of gender – is better known for her recent commercials for Target than for her consistent excellence as a writer and performer. Don’t blame her for that.

Over the years we’ve seen Roseanne Barr and Ellen Degeneres and Whoopi Goldberg find tremendous success, and during the 80’s comedy boom there were several that were household names. So what’s wrong in 2009? There’s no shortage of strong current female comedians worthy of adulation, but fewer are breaking through at the level that many of the male comedians attain. Try asking a friend to name five current female comedians. You’ll likely get Lampanelli, Sarah Silverman…and a blank stare.

Maybe they’ll come up with Wanda Sykes or Margaret Cho or Kathy Griffin, all of whom have had wider exposure thanks to multiple television shows. I doubt many would come up with Whitney Cummings, but after laughing my ass off listening to her first album (Emotional Ninja) I predict that will change very soon.

Cummings doesn’t have a schtick or a character, and her material is pretty much old school observational comedy about sex and relationships. But while she can be crude and vulgar, she’s also ferociously funny. She’s strong with a quick one liner but also has well-structured longer pieces that pile one laugh on top of another. She’s able to play both ends of the men vs. women card in such a way that you laugh at all of it regardless of your gender…probably because you realize most of what she’s talking about is absolutely true.

Cummings doesn’t talk down to the audience, she places herself within it, so we’re on her side even when we’re the butt of the joke. She’ll humble herself with a self-deprecating stinger, but she’s no victim. She might launch some vitriol towards the losers and bad dates, but she’ll also admit to being a sneaky manipulator. Basically she’s showing that we’re all playing games…so let’s get those cards on the table and laugh at how shallow and absurd it all is.

The bits that aren’t about relationships are topical but universally funny, like the banality of social networks, the true definition of yoga and wondering why we reward our friends’ biggest mistakes with gifts. I won’t spoil the punch lines, but my favorite bits - her breast exam, sleeping her way to nowhere, how women snoop on and argue with men – had me rolling. She excels at stringing together a wealth of material with exceptional timing and delivery, adept at a pregnant pause before a punch line or punctuating a sarcastic retort.

I’m not exactly going out on a limb here by praising her work. In the past couple of years her profile has soared; she’s been tagged as a rising star by Entertainment Weekly, Variety and Alternative Press. Her panel time on Chelsea Lately is usually brilliant, and her breakout performance on the Comedy Central roast of Joan Rivers was a logical next step (she had been writing for them for a couple of years). Cummings is only in her mid-twenties, yet she’s already proven to be a prolific writer and a strong performer. She’s attractive, she’s very smart, and she is fearless.

There are thirty-three tracks on Emotional Ninja, most under two minutes, and there might not be a clunker in the bunch. This is truly one of the funniest comedy CDs of the year – go get it.

I followed the delightful Andy Kindler, no small task, but the crowd was cool and I enjoyed doing a show where people were literally sitting on fucking stage. People lined up around the block to go to CDR, just as they do each and every week. It’s really inspiring and awesome to see people wait in line for literally hours to get to see live comedy. Also performing: Jimmy Dore, Chip Pope, Moshe Kasher, Aziz Ansari, and my beloved friend Reggie Watts.

I also got to hang out with my excellent friend H. Alan Scott. If you only meet one ex-Mormon with 12 siblings in your life, this young geigh comedian should be the one.

Earlier in the day, I had the unique pleasure of visiting (“Queer as Folk” star and) beloved activisit-actor-comedian Hal Sparks at his wonderful renovated 70-something year old home, which is filled with magickal statues and a wonderland of photographs and paintings and special art and music and colors. I told his assistant, Amy, who is awesome, “This is exactly the kind of house I would want if I had the chance.”

We shot an episode of Gettin’ Wet with Sara Benincasa, and a VERY special guest stopped by.

This is me as an extra in someone's gay wet dream.

I also went and visited Mr. James Urbaniak, starrrr of stage and screen and the voice of Dr. Venture on the crazy cartoon series “Venture Bros.” His twins were at nursery school, so he allowed my trusty friend Adam Finmann and I to invade his abode and interrogate him about his life and work.

GO TEAM VENTURE! I asked James to show me how to do this because a fan had demanded it, on the online.

I got to know and work with a really cool gent named Damion Dietz, director of Dog Tags (2008) and many other films. I voiced a Sarah Palin movie involving dildo puppets. NO. BIG. DEAL. We went out for Mexican food in Silverlake to celebrate the conclusion of a cumulative 12-ish hours of recording voice magic, and I got to check out a really cool altar for the Days of the Dead.

When I lived in New Mexico, we saw beautiful displays like this everywhere.

Later that night, back in Beachwood Canyon, I walked past a dude who was out grilling his dearly beloved deceased’s favorite foods. It smelled so good, and he looked kind of proud, as if he knew that people were stopping by and watching in curious admiration.

Did AGORAFABULOUS! at Largo again on Monday night. It was a really different show from the previous outing. After the first out at Largo, I think I finally got what the shape of it is going to be, thanks to some really fucking helpful notes from friends and strangers alike. So the second outing was a lot closer to the eventual “final” form it will take. Sometimes I do the show and it’s too heavy on the funny and not enough on the sad. Other times it’s too heavy on the sad and not enough on the funny. Eventually it’ll balance out. Looking forward to bouncing some ideas off the wonderful folks at Ars Nova when I get home. They’re insightful birds and bees and I know talking to them will be great. My friend Soce the Elemental Wizard and my friend Jessica Delfino are doing their ANT Fest ‘09. If you’re in NYC, check that shit out.

…but rather tame in the bedroom.

Seriously, when I interviewed him, it was in a hotel bedroom, and he was quite reserved.

Mika last Friday at the United Palace Theater

Someone decidedly not reserved on stage, or in the bedroom, is Margaret Cho.

[Mom and Dad, it's in your best interest to stop reading here.]

I know the “in the bedroom” part because last night at the RISK! event at Joe’s Pub, Cho revealed her love for bondage and domination behind closed doors. If you’re not familiar, RISK! is a weekly night/podcast hosted by Kevin Allison of The State, where folks get up on stage and tell true stories about themselves.

Last night’s theme was “We Were Young: Things We’d Never Do Again” and Cho regaled us with a story about being in a relationship with an unattractive man who was bad at sex. She introduced us to a fun game she plays with her friends, where she runs up to them and yells

WHY DIDN’T YOU COME?

Because that’s what the dude used to ask her when she didn’t orgasm.

Oh, how I love Margaret Cho, and her willingness to mine her personal tragedies for the benefit of comedy. I also thank her for that game, which I’m gonna start playing. Just a warning to my friends.

We were left last night with some sage advice, that being “Don’t fuck someone you don’t love.” Then she amended to “Don’t be in a relationship with someone you don’t love.” Because, yeah. The first way would make life pretty boring.

You can see the marvelous Ms. Cho when she accompanies Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal for John Roberts and Friends tonight at Comix.

Tonight’s recommendations for the best in New York City comedy (in chronological order, with top picks noted and shows over $10 marked with $) include:

7:00 pm & 8:30 pm & 10:00 pm ($6.13 per show online): NYC improv and sketch troupes—many of whom perform at The PIT—compete against each other via this unusual annual contest in which each group, regardless of specialty, will perform both improv and sketch…as well as a comedy form known as sketchprov using the Second City routine The Pad. The 27 teams participating this year are Audience of Two, Bacivo Nuggets, Bad Luck Rising, Cool Guyot, Dave and Ethan, Do You Like This in Your Face?, Dumpster Tequila, Etc…, Foolhardy Manor, Friends of the Museum, Gentleman Caller, Halfbear, Hopeful Chester, Inside Joke Films, Maybe Sherman, Mrs. Estherhouse, Ninja Sex Party, Nobody’s Token, Party Lights, Pembroke and Lu, Peoples Sketch Association, SidViscous, Sisters!, Slapstick Picnic, Swords, Veal, and Yawn. The competition, running through Saturday, is SketchProv

[TOP PICK] [$] 7:30 pm ($12 ticket, plus two-drink or $12 food min. if you sit at a table): Top comics and comedic storytellers—who tonight are Margaret Cho, Tom Shillue, Mike Daisey, Jon Friedman, and Rachel Dratch—join brilliant sketch comic and storyteller Kevin Allison (The State) in Joe’s Pub to share tales on the theme “Never Again” at the exciting new weekly storytelling event Risk!

[TOP PICK] 7:30 pm (no cover, 1-item min.): Delightfully quirky monthly storytelling show in which comics and comedic yarn-spinners are asked to reveal aspects of themselves that are odd and unusual—and that includes such carnival elements as an accordion player, and a challenging trivia contest for someone in the audience to win a bottle of wine. Tonight’s performers are Peter Aguero (Conan O’Brien, Moth GrandSlam, BTK Band), Bruce Cherry (Comedy Central’s Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn), Amy Dixon (UCBT), Becky Flaum (UCBT) ,and thoroughly charming and razor-sharp host Leslie Goshko (Manhattan Monologue Champion, UCBT): Sideshow Goshko

[FREE] 8:00: Sharp NYC stand-ups Emily Epstein, Jamie Lee, Chris Doucette, Rocco Supreme, Mark Giordano, and Nate Min performing at this free weekly show hosted by Sharon Spell: Shrink

[TOP PICK] [FREE] 8:30 pm: Thoroughly wonderful stand-ups Eugene Mirman, Pete Holmes, Kumail Nanjiani, and Matt McCarthy performing at a free weekly comedy show at Brooklyn’s Cameo (behind Lovin’ Cup) hosted by Jenny Slate (Saturday Night Live), Gabe Liedman and Max Silvestri: Big Terrific

[TOP PICK] 9:30 pm ($5): One of the finest comedic storytelling shows in the country, in which brilliant writer/performers—who tonight are Anthony Atamanuik (30 Rock), John Flynn (Showgirls! Best Movie Ever Made. Ever!), Noah Garfinkel (Totally J/K), Mark Sam Rosenthal (stellar one-man show Blache Survives Katrina in a FEMA Trailer Named Desire), and wonderful host David Martin—tell tales that are brutally honest and utterly hilarious, with tonight’s theme “Sexual Embarrassment:” The Nights of Our Lives

[TOP PICK] [FREE] 11:00 pm: Host Justin Purnell (The Colbert Report) providing as many as a dozen guests packed into 75 minutes performing stand-up, improv, sketch, and occasionally acts that defy categorization. The level of talent can vary wildly, but for some (like me), that’s part of the laid-back fun; and this is often one of the most amazing comedy shows in town. Come support the experimentation, and periodic magical surprises, that this uniquely organic rollercoaster of a show makes possible—and don’t forget to toss $1 in the bucket on your way out: School Night

True love, destiny and fate — all spark an age old debate

Ending the first season on a spectacularly high note, Drop Dead Diva’s finale dealt with no less weighty issues than: Are we destined to have one true love? Are our lives predetermined by destiny? Or is it all simply a matter of fate? These were the questions delicately and quite humorously addressed and, unfortunately, left hanging in this episode. For Deb (Brooke Elliott) had begun to wonder about her life as Jane and whether it meant that she must live the life old Jane carved-out, or if she can change her life and live as a new Jane.

Fresh off her inadvertent date with Grayson (Jackson Hurst) in the prior episode, after Tony (David Denman) had canceled at the last minute due to work and Kim (Kate Levering) had broken up with Grayson, we got a glimpse into Grayson’s inner thoughts as he awoke from a dream about nearly kissing Jane. The expression on his face clearly showed his confusion about the dream and what it meant.

But, in Jane’s world, things are going smoothly with Tony (David Denman) who thoughtfully brought Jane lunch at the office and invited her on a romantic getaway to Napa. Grayson could only watch in the background contemplating how he felt about Jane. Later Grayson inadvertently admitted to Stacy (April Bowlby) that he was having trouble sleeping because he had been dreaming about Jane. Predictably, Stacy told Jane about Grayson’s revealing disclosure and that put Jane in a quandary: does she continue to pursue the relationship with Tony or take the time to find out whether Grayson feels something for her?

If you get the chance to see Margaret Cho on her most recent tour and you enjoy raunchy humor, go.

This was my third time to see Cho and she never disappoints. This time around she showcased both her musical talents and the talents of John Roberts. Roberts opened for Cho and he is a lot of fun - donning different wigs, he adopts crazy characters, my favorite of which was Linda, the hippy lesbian with homicidal violence brimming just under the surface.

The recent show may be my favorite – the focus was more on creative expressions of silliness rather than politics or preachiness. It was a lot of fun and I was sad when it ended.

On a personal note, the best part for me was the company – I went with Spencer, Kfir and Skanky. We had a ball. The show was at Harrah’s in Kansas City, so beforehand we ate at Toby Keith’s restaurant, which, due to the show, was full of more homosexuals than you could shake a stick at (no pun intended). Quite unusual for that establishment, I can imagine. Afterwards we went to the casino and I won twenty dollars!

On Saturday, we all went to brunch and then Skanky and I hit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. I had never been before and really enjoyed it – they have a very extensive collection. Afterwards, she and I made the trek to Dean and Deluca for baked goods and gourmet razzmatazz. Man, if I lived in Kansas City, I would be fucking classy.

Noise Addict's new release, "it was never about the audience"

For several years now, I have loved Ben Lee. The best explanation that I can give is that his music just makes me exceedingly happy. I can literally turn on Ben Lee when I need to be cheered up and it will work.

When I saw a Twitter update from comedian and a star on Lifetime’s new hit show Drop Dead Diva, Margaret Cho, saying that Ben Lee had a new project, I decided to look into it.

It turns out that while it may not be an entirely new project, an old band of Ben’s has reunited in some form or fashion. Noise Addict, with Ben Lee on vocals, released an album earlier this month titled it was never about the audience.

If you like Ben Lee, you will love this music. It’s like some of his older stuff and Awake Is the New Sleep had a love child. Some of the songs are very short- I liken them to short, unfinished artistic vignettes. Listening to this album is like playing music with your friends in the garage.

If you’ve made it this far into this post then you’ve earned a reward. I know a little secret: Noise Addict is giving away their album to their fans entirely free. No strings attached. You can download it for yourself at their website. Happy listening!

For the third time in a week I have heard or seen people, some that I actually respect, one that I supposedly love, look at me in horror, and protest adamantly that they are most definitely NOT a Feminist.

What?

In the words of my idol, Margaret Cho, “If you aren’t a feminist, you should just kill yourself”

All genius of Ms Cho aside, there are few comments that leave me speechless, but this is one of them. Two of these people were women, and one was my husband. What is it with the fear surrounding the title, philosophy, army boot uniform procurement, of calling yourself a feminist.

What is the problem here? I think, as far as the husband goes, he has this idea that to consider ones self a feminist, one must be, well, a woman. Which is a common misconception among men. In anger and shock I yelled at him, “Did you come from, or in a vagina at any point in your life? Then you better be a fucking feminist.” a little crass, but the point I was trying to make was that as a man who loves his mother, and his wife, and for that matter, his daughter, and wants them to live in a world where their voices are heard and they are treated equally, he is, unbeknown-st to himself, a feminist.

Him, I can understand to a degree, he still doesn’t believe me, and I’m sure my emphatic use of the word “vagina” did not help my cause, but he continues to be a loving husband and father, and a man who recognizes his bawdy, brash, strong wife as an equal partner in their relationship and in the world, so I am willing to forgive his ignorance.

Now, we come to the women.

COME ON GIRLS!

Why, as independent, strong willed, mothers of daughters, and intelligent women of the new millennium would any of us deny, or even be offended by, being called a feminist? When did feminism become a dirty word?

A post I was reading on The F Word tonight summed it up

“While few women would disagree with the need for gender equality, a wedge has somehow been driven between this and the cause of feminism, the two are no longer synonymous. To most, the mere mention of feminism evokes rolled eyes or an indulgent chuckle, it is a caricature of its former self and deserted by my generation like a elderly parent forced to rely on the state for care in old age.”

Is it the equation with extreme gender politics? The idea that marching is mandatory? Is it an armpit hair thing? Don’t worry ladies, I just reviewed my handbook, and shaving is okay now! Thank you Third Wave Feminism!

It might also be this constant squabble between the various factions of feminism that I have been noticing a lot of. Within any movement, there is a tendency for rouge sects to form. But somehow within the feminist movement we have gotten on this kick of trying to out victimize each other, and that shit has GOT to stop.

A post i was reading awhile back, unfortunately I can’t find it again, was talking about all of mommy bloggers out in the blogosphere and how our voices, while important, we not as important as the childless feminists out here in the blogosphere, and how those who were childless were being marginalized by those that chose to have children. oh please. I’m way too busy wiping stuff off my ceiling to marginalize you. But then the comments came in, from the lower socioeconomic blogging moms, the blogging moms of color, the queer blogging moms of color, the queer Latina one legged blind childless dog aficionado male identified blogging feminists. What is with this need to assign a taxonomy to ourselves? Maybe this is my white, lower middle class, child choosing privilege talking, but why aren’t we uniting to boost ourselves up, instead of dividing to tear each other down? If any thing would give me pause to keep from claiming the moniker of “Feminist” that would be it, I don’t want to be seen as 1) a victim or 2) one who victimizes of my fellow women.

I’ll admit, I’m a lazy feminist, I haven’t protested a damn think outside of my living room and the occasional re-post on facebook, I haven’t donated money to any kind of cause, and I’ve haven’t taken a stand publicly about the thousands of images of abuse and exploitation that bombard my television every night, but regardless, I am still willing to claim the title, that’s my little contribution to the cause, take it or leave it.

If you are one of those many women that shudder, or roll your eyes at being labeled a feminist, or a man that is convinced you have to have a vagina to respect someone that has one, take a look at the list below and see if there is even one thing you relate to, if you do, “You just might be…a Feminist” embrace it, and shave your legs, I won’t tell.

Why I am a Feminist, by Amy Hickel

10) I firmly believe that women, of all colors, sexualities, and socioeconomic classes, have been overlooked, demonized, demoralized, sexualized and exocticized in the media for the benefit of giant advertising dollars. It has been time for that to stop since the first beer add was chiseled on a cave wall with a cave lady in a skimpy saber skin bending over a wheel.

09) I believe that the voices of women are every bit as important, and in many cases, more important than the voices of the white male majority, or any other person. Not becuase we necessarily have better, or more important things to say, but becuase we have been left out of conversations that impact us directly for far too long. Regardless of your stance on reproductive rights, the ERA, or public health care, these things affect us, and our voices MUST be heard so that we aren’t left out in the cold wondering where our birth control ran off to. Its about choice, the choice to wear your baby, or to not have one at all, to choose to stay home, or go to work, to know that some people don’t get that choice and not begrudge them what they have to do to survive. To choose to wear pearls, or to fatigues, to march against, or for, your country, to know that no one else gets to make those choices for you and to keep it that way.

08) I believe that history was written by white men, advertised by white men, and taught for far too long by white men. There is so much more to history than the books we are given in school and the regurgitated rhetoric we hear from our grandparents. Taking it upon ourselves to learn what we want to know, and not accept blindly everything we are taught not only makes us more intelligent as a population, but stronger. Only by knowing our history can we keep from repeating our mistakes.

07) I love men, some of my best friends are men, good men, who, whether they want to admit it or not, are feminists. I love men so much that I want them to have the same voice that I want in my government, in the media, and in the history books. I love men so much I want to work with them everyday, be the boss of some of them, and even let one or two be boss over me. I want to be paid the same for doing the same work and I don’t want that to have to even be a factor in the decision making process when I am hired. I want men to have paternity leave, and benefits, and to not feel bad about how they look, or whether they cry when they watch the Notebook, you would have to have a heart of stone not to cry at that movie its so freaking sad! Men are not the problem, women are not the problem, the problem is that we have been taught, by people who were taught, that were taught by other people, that the status quo is okay, that standing up for yourself, your rights, and the way the world views you is somehow unpatriotic or uncouth. Well, it isn’t, lets un learn those lessons.

06) I love balls. Baseballs, softballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, you name it, I’ll hit kick or put it. There is a whole generation of women out there that need female role models that play with balls, and show them that playing with balls is okay, and a hell of a lot better than doing drugs, getting knocked up, or using your body to get what you want. Those women that like balls need to show the little girls that like balls that you can play sports, and be feminine, and that feminine, does not always mean hairless and coated in makeup, but if that is what your idea of feminine is, then go for it. Along with allowing you to play with balls, allowing you to define your own femininity is just as, if not more, important.

05) I Don’t want to hate my body. I struggle with it, who doesn’t? but I really want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and thing “cool”. I want to see women that look like me, or, at least a more interesting and together version of me, on TV, and not always as the “Fat but quirky friend” I want to be the STAR DAMMIT. I know so many actresses, writers, drama nerds, and musicians that are amazingly talented and beautiful, trying to break out of their small town theater groups, but are too afraid to try becuase they don’t have “the look” whatever that look may be at this moment. I want my daughter to turn on the freaking WB one day and see a tall, gangly, pink headed smart ass with buck teeth and think, “I want to grow up to be just like that”.

04) I want real choices for my daughter. I want her to find a way other than by using her body, to be loved. I want her to know that her voice is important, and that her brain, sass, and manners, are what will help her get ahead in life. I don’t want her to think that her worth lies in the eyes of a man, or another woman, or a group of them. I want her to know that feeling pain is not the only way to feel. I want her to know that being a feminist is not only okay, its kick ass! And if she wants to grow up to be a princess, or a doctor, or a princess doctor like she said last week, she has just as much of a chance of doing it as anyone else does.

03) I don’t want to be afraid to go out alone at night, or in the city during the day, and I don’t want hate or fear of the unknown to extend to my family. I don’t want my son (well, future son hopefully) to think its okay to call women “bitches” “cunts” or “whores” or anyone a “fag” or “queer” or use the term “that’s so gay” becuase teaching our kids that words have power is just as important as teaching them to read. When they use these phrases, they make someone else small, and leave that kid just a little bit dumber than he was before he said it. I don’t want dumb kids, Sponge Bob is doing enough to turn them stupid, I don’t want language doing it too. I want them to know that words can hurt, and words can heal, and words can lift up. Instead of commenting on someones fat tummy they can comment on their nice eyes. Or they can say hello to that person and get to know who they are and judge them on their merits once they have given them a chance.

02) I don’t want to apologize for myself. In college, every woman in my class would preface her answers with “I don’t know but, ” or “I’m sorry but…” before answering a question. Why? I don’t think we need to apologize for wanting to contribute to the universal dialogue. I refuse to ask permission to contribute my say in my marriage or at my job, especially when the decisions being made directly affect my happiness and well being. I think 98% of men don’t feel we need to ask permission to participate in class, or at work, or in our families, stop asking permission, stop apologizing for having a voice, use it!

01) I am a woman. I was born a woman, and by the grace of whatever God is out there I was put in the right body at the right time. We are a society on the out edges of a technological Renaissance. Lets stop wasting it on Viagra and boob jobs please? Ladies, pen a sonnet, sing a song, start a blog, just get your voice out there. Men, do the same and support your women and they will support you. Being a woman does not make you inferior, and admitting that women are equally important in the advancement of society does not make a man less masculine. Use these new technologies to support each other, create things, share them with each other, and learn more about the world than what is piped in by Comcast every night.

I’m good with being a woman, a chubby, plain, loud mouthed, smooth legged, opinionated feminist Mommy that doesn’t see anything wrong with being who she is, most days any way, and wants to embrace that F word, Feminist, I’m takin’ it back.

Are you?

So, my lovely sister bought tickets for us to see Margaret Cho in Annapolis a few months ago. Show date was Sept. 21st. We’ve been building up to this for weeks, constantly going back and forth, insanely excited because we both LOVE her.

Fast forward to Monday. Sister and I both have CRAP days (me from working, her from job-hunting and adventures in tortilla making), I get home, change into jamas, and we’re settled in at our respective computers. When 7pm rolled around, Sister comes RACING down the hall going “HOLY CRAP WE FORGOT!!!”

Damn.

I’m pretty sure somewhere in the following thirty minutes of hauling ass around house, then down the road, we created a black hole. We must have. That’s the ONLY way we pulled this off and only missed the first ten minutes of the show. I’m pretty sure I was very creative in my attention to traffic laws, but we did it.

It was so VERY worth it. Almost beyond description worth it.

Ms. Cho is a gifted speaker, who does not fear touching the “bad” or “naughty” topics…no, she throws them in your face and makes you love it! If you enjoy stand-up comedy at all and she is in your area, GO SEE HER! It’s the experience of a lifetime. Go buy tickets now, I’ll wait.

Did you buy your tickets yet? No? Slacker.

So says the conservative Culture and Media Institute (CMI) in a new report that chastises the mainstream media for giving Hilton a platform while failing to challenge him for misogynistic and “vile” remarks.

“Perez Hilton has proved that demonstrable talent or skill is no longer a prerequisite for fame,” the report says. Ouch!

The CMI blasts Hilton for using the “b-word” to describe The View’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck and former Miss California Carrie Prejean, outing closeted stars and for re-printing a Margaret Cho blog in which the comedian fantasized about having oral sex with Sarah Palin.

It’s not keen on those “doodles” he draws on celeb photos either, especially the ones showing Prejean speaking into a microphone made to look like a member of the male anatomy.

The CMI (a non-profit run by Brent Bozell, the former head of the conservative Parents Television Council) charges the media has given Hilton “a free pass to say and do outrageous things” and spread “his particular brand of venom.”

It cites examples of interviews on ABC, CBS and NBC where reporters sugar-coated the content on Hilton’s popular website. And it chided HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell (host of ”Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell”) for defending Hilton in his public spat with Prejean.

What’s your take on Perez? Is he a cyber-bully or just a cyber-smart aleck?
