Michael Pollan has written an excellent book which answers 3 burning food questions:

What should I eat? (Answer: eat food.)
What kind of food should I eat? (Answer: mostly plants.)
How should I eat? (Answer: not too much.)

This book is called Food Rules and consists of 64 “rules” to help you figure out what to eat for your health, how to eat it, and understand why. And this book can be read comfortably in little more than an hour. I recommend taking a gander at your local library to see if it’s in.

Some very talented people (Marija Jacimovic and Benoit Detalle) have animated a clip of Michael Pollan speaking about some of the ideas behind Food Rules. It’s wonderfully done – so creative and fun, using only food in the stop-motion technique – and watching it will only take about 2 minutes out of your day. I hope you enjoy it!

Based on Michael Pollan’s talk “Food Rules” given at the RSA, this animation was created in the context of the RSA/Nominet Trust film competition. Using a mixture of stop-motion and compositing, our aim and challenge was to convey the topic in a visually interesting way using a variety of different food products. We made a little table top set up at home and worked on this a little over three weeks.

Did you know, our current industrial agricultural system relies on 10 calories of fossil fuel energy for every 1 calorie of food energy produced?

This is why eating natural and organic is not only important for your body, but the entire world and our food supply as well!
