People questioned me on my views on Mario Testino’s new book. Just so everyone knows:

I don’t dislike Testino, I actually think he’s very nice, a nice person.

I don’t dislike Rio, I actually think it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I don’t dislike hot people, I actually need to have a look at beauty to strengthen my resolve sometimes.

What I do dislike, though, is cliché. Rio has so exhaustively been shown as the land of the sexy that it just bores me to be faced with yet another batch of its people sexiness.

I truly expected more from MaRio de Janeiro Testino.

As Miranda Pristley once said: My God, I live on hope. On hope for novelty.

Vouge UK, October 2009

Georgia Jagger’s spread in this month’s British Vogue maintained ferocity through the eyes of Eric Prydz and Mario Testino. This issue is a must-have for all you frugalistas providing insight on how to create looks without goin’ outta pocket.

My French neighbors are currently on a visit here in the country. It was more than lovely to see them again and I especially appreciated the fact that we more than once got drunk with plenty of caipirinhas during lunch.

We had a nice time here in the city, but then they had to continue the tour while I had to stay and study and work. They are now exploring Rio.

Mario's Rio

Although I love the city and its magic, I’m not so fond of the people there. They are so open and so outgoing it almost shocks me. Yes, they do have a reputation for being hot, but we know how it usually goes: the prettier and hotter, the dumber and shallower (forgive me for the cliché).

Following the same train of thought, I’ve recently taken a look at Mario Testino’s new photography book, MaRio de Janeiro Testino (Taschen, 2009). Although it’s really nice to look at the pictures and to notice and enjoy the view of those people’s sexiness, that’s about where it ends, just it where it begins.

Of course I love beauty, but there’s got to be more.

For everyone who does not care about this, just have fun and display this one much-too-shown side of the city in a nice little spot on your coffee table.

I love the Brazilians, the way they live, the way they celebrate, the passion, the enthusiasm, the smiles, the sensuality, the pride, the diversity, the culture, the history, the food, the view from your hotel room, the optimism against all odds, and most of all- the beauty. Have I mention the enthusiasm and passion? When the star of the latest blockbuster The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) Robert Pattinson was asked in Jimmy Kimmel Live! in LA “Where in the world are the craziest (passionate) fans you’ve ever met while promoting New Moon?” the 23 yr old actor replied without hesitation “Brazil!”, and I wouldn’t be surprised. Have I mentioned the enthusiasm and passion?

The largest country in South America, the 55 yr old Peruvian fashion/celebrity photographer Mario Testino’s favorite destination to shoot his photo books, the world’s fifth largest country by geographical area, the world’s eighth largest economy, the world’s fifth most populous country, and the world’s largest population of fashion models and supermodels working today. The sultry brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima said in an interview “If you look around Brazil you see pregnant women everywhere. Here you don’t see that as much. There the only thing they do is babies, babies, babies! Wow, guys. Monica Bellucci and my fave photographer, Ellen Von Unwerth, are seriously giving the topless Claudia Schiffer Catwoman by Mario Testino of several days’ ago a real run for its money for the internet’s Best [Batman] Picture Ever contest.

Lima (Peru.com).- El afamado fotógrafo peruano Mario Testino recibió de manos de la presidenta ejecutiva de Walpole British Luxury, Julia Carrik, la medalla de la excelencia por su trabajo en los sectores lujo y moda. Este galardón lo recibe a los 55 años.

“Estamos encantados de entregarle la medalla de la excelencia a Mario Testino este año. Él sigue siendo uno de los más conocidos y célebres fotógrafos de moda. Es una figura muy influyente tanto para la moda como para la industria del lujo y es un gran merecedor de este premio por todo lo que ha hecho por la moda británica”, aseguró Carrick.

Cabe mencionar, que esta distinción se realizó la noche del lunes en Whitehall, Londres. Vale indicar, que otras personalidades que se han alzado con este premio son Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Vivienne Westwood y J.K Rowling.

“Comencé en Londres en 1980, así que el próximo año celebraré mi 30 aniversario. Cuando comencé trataba de emular a los británicos, así que le debo mucho a Kate Moss”, dijo el peruano que forma parte de las campañas de moda y portadas más importantes, como Vogue.

I went hiking this past Saturday and this Vogue 2008 photo shoot of model Natalia Vodianova and her family just reminds me how much I love beautiful clothes, fall afternoons, and spending time with people I love. Photographer Mario Testino did an amazing job capturing the family in each photo and the fashion department chose amazing pieces for Natalia to wear. Recently I’ve also made two graphics projects for class related to this specific photo shoot, so I will try to post those later. All of these images make me wish that fall lasted forever!

Through life we become many things, but being a woman is always a constant.  Stephanie Seymour is a beautiful woman that knows how to move her body in sync with a photographer.  I would really love to photograph her myself….I see that happening.
