El día de la inauguración del blog, gracias a las redes sociales sorprendentemente recibi mas visitas que antes, bueno pues no es para menos ahora soy mas web 2.0. y como dije este es un blog sin linea editorial, se me ocurre hacer publico esto que acontinuación leen.

Pues ayer que trataba de calmarme, viendo videos de Les Luthiers, empece a hacer bromas sobre mi edad “ya estoy viejo” es algo que comunmente digo, y la barbita apoya mucho ; ), en realidad viejo viejo no estoy, pero ya que siempre lo digo empiezo a creermelo, creo que lo dije muy seriamente, o me han ‘castigado de broma’ pero una amiga me a mandado a escribir 60 veces el título de este post, bueno para que no digan que soy desobediente, voy cumpliendo mi tarea …

Ayer domingo fue un dia muy activo para mi.

Me desperte a las 7:30 AM puesto que habia quedado con unos amigos de ir al museo de las Artes a ver la exposicion de David LaChapelle ”Delirium of Reason”

Asi pues, me desperte con ganas de ir a ver la exposicion, por alguna extraña razon queria verla.

A las 8:15 AM estaba en el lugar donde nos veriamos Carlos, Octavio y yo.

Tomando un DanUp! y observando la calle.

Eran las 08:37AM en mi celular cuando nos encaminamos hacia el Centro de Guadalajara.

Llegamos alla como a las 9:30 poco mas, y de ahi, caminamos unos 15 minutos hasta el Museo de las Artes de la Universidad de Guadalajara

Lastima que en el camino viera tantos lugares que me hacian recordarla.

Despues de caminar por la Via Recreativa llegamos a el Museo.

Al parecer fuimos los primeros del grupito en llegar, un grupo total de 5 personas.

Entramos al museo (La reseña estara postada en unos minutos) y pasamos a ver la galeria, tardamos alrededor de 01:30 – 02:00 Horas en verla entera.

Cuando salimos de ahi, fuimos al Expiatorio a seguir nuestro ”hambre” de ”expedicion” jaja

Tomamos demasiadas fotos en el lugar..

Entramos a las catacumbas o tumbas nose.. jaja.

Y nos tomamos fotos, tomamos fotos del lugar, y tocamos en una tumba con una mano.. :S :S jaja..

Despues de ahi, estuvimos como 1 hora en el lugar, salimos y encontramos a la maestra de Arte.

Estaba contando una historia ahi en donde se hace la via Recreativa, y nos retroalimentamos acerca de lo visto en el museo.

Despues de eso, ya nos retiramos, en el parque Juarez fue la despedida, Carlos Octavio y yo todavia caminamos hasta la catedral casi.

Pero no sin antes detenernos a ver a las chicas que bailaban jaja.

Despues de un viaje en el que me quede dormido, llegamos por fin a Tesistan.. que pena jaja.

Llegamos a CyberArte a recargar energia mediante Internet

Cuando llegue ami casa, habia un Filete de Pescado esperando a ser devorado por mi jaja.

Ah que bueno estuvo..

Despues llego mi primo Beto.

Despues de comer y ver el partido de las Chivas

Nos fuimos a hechar desmadre, primero a comprar el pastel para Alejandra por su cumple.

Luego volvimos a ver a Carlos, ya estabamos los 3 Primos jaja Alberto, Carlos y Arturo y como traemos un problema con mi cuñado.. super clasificado, fuimos a arreglarlo para solucionarlo.

Ya despues nos pusimos ahi a seguir hechando el desmadre.

Ya entrada la noche decidimos hacer una fogata Alberto y yo.

Primero no prendia la pinche fogata, ya despues como por arte de magia prendio..

Y ahi estuvimos como hasta las 02:00 AM

Escuchando musica y platicando.

Y ahi acabo mi domingo e inicio mi lunes jaja.

The First annual DigIN (Decorah, Iowa Green Initiative) Festival Weekend went off with great success this past weekend! Aryn and I were so excited to be a part of the planning committee and felt incredibly lucky to be a part of the creation of such an amazing gathering of people and events.

The Weekend kicked off Friday night with what was supposed to be a street dance with local Scandinavian dance band Foot-Notes, but alas the decision was made with the weather to move it indoors to the Elks lodge, which was quite fun. Over 150 people came out to dance, watch, listen, and enjoy one of Decorah’s most treasured musical acts! A huge thanks to Decorah Bank and Trust for making the dance possible!!!

Saturday brought the main draw for the DigIN weekend- the Sustainable Farm and off-the-grid home tours throughout the Decorah area.

Winn. County Recycling paper Bale - complete w/ Inspire(d) Magazine!

5 homes and 5 farms were featured on the tour that showcased everything from solar power to sustainable potato farming! The Winneshiek County Recycling facility was also open for tours which was one of the most fascinating stops for Aryn & I!

We were also able to visit Patchwork Green farm, owned by Erik & Sarah Sessions, and also where we get our vegetable CSA from. At left is a picture of their hoop-house, where several varieties of incredible tomatoes reach towards the sun! It is farmers like the Sessions that make us feel so incredibly lucky to live here in NE Iowa. Hundreds of people were out and about in the Winneshiek County countryside checking out homes and farms on Saturday and it was incredible to hear so many people so excited not only about sustainability and ideas for making their lives more sustainable, but also excited about our incredible little corner of the world. Saturday evening featured two different awesome events. The First was a screening of ‘FRESH’ the movie- which features some of the most forward thinking faces in new agriculture and sustainable food systems. The other event was a garden party with Maritza at the home of David Cavagnaro -and it was a perfect night for it!

Sunday rounded out the weekend with the first annual KDEC Green Expo at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds. Over 700 people came through the grounds in just under 5 hours to check out local and regional providers of green technology for transportation, building, housing, food systems, and more. At right was the Inspire(d) tent outside by the Speaking tents where informational lectures were held all afternoon.

I think that all of us who helped put this weekend together for the first year were amazed and excited to hear the feedback from visitors and locals alike, and we are all excited to make improvements for next year’s DigIN weekend! A huge thank you to everyone who came out to the weekend, to all that opened their farms and homes for tours, and to the Winneshiek County Convention & Visitors Bureau – a brighter future is not only possible- it is happening here in NE Iowa!!!

Running tests your physical, mental and spiritual limits.  It can be grueling but fulfilling.  It can give you the highest highs and the lowest lows.  But best of all, know that in this journey of running, you are never alone.  There are many kindred spirits who enjoy running just as much as you.  And guess what?  These kindred spirits would love to meet you or run with you.
Training partners can be a great source of motivation and can give you that extra boost when you need it.  Check out MarathonMaritza’s post here as one great example.  Having friends to run with aren’t a necessity, but they do make things more fun and can help you in achieving your goals while traveling your journey.

August 21-23, 2009 – Decorah, IA

The Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau is kicking off a fun and educational new festival called “Dig IN: the Decorah Iowa Green INitiative” this August 21-23. The WCCVB and partners established this first annual event to celebrate the Decorah area as leaders in “green” initiatives. Dig IN is a weekend-long festival set in idyllic Northeast Iowa featuring off the grid homes and sustainable farm tours, along with live music at both a street dance and garden party, an expert-filled green expo, seminars and forums, and local foods all weekend.

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to live without power lines stretching across the land, into your house, your outlet, and your coffee pot or lamp, ready to make light at your fingertips or your morning java? Do you imagine a dark life with few luxuries or fun? For off the grid families these days, this life is neither dark nor dreary – it’s merely an adaptation of where to get energy and how.

Now let’s take it another step: what do you think of when you hear the word “sustainable,” “green,” “organic,” or even “local”? How about when you add the word farming? In the Midwest, farming is a way of life. We’ve gotten used to fields lining our roads and animals in our pastures, and now we’re starting to get used to these “new” words – important to the quality and health of both our food and our land – that actually bring farming back to its roots of centuries ago. Dig IN will answer these questions and more.

On August 22, traverse the region’s rolling hills and picturesque bluffs to get a peek into off the grid homes and sustainable farms as the owners open their doors for tours. Learn about solar, wind, and geothermal energy, composting toilets and ultra efficient appliances. Get up-close looks at small wind turbines and visit farms that produce food for our tables responsibly – without chemicals and with the environment and land in mind – and profitably – making a sustainable life for their families and tackling the local and regional marketing level.

Luther College will also welcome visitors to its campus to check out the electric vehicle fleet and learn more about its climate commitment. Based on this commitment Luther has set a goal to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% in the next four years and is working on a plan to become a carbon neutral campus. The college is a local leader in bio diesel and hybrids, and has recently completed a LEED certified science laboratory and research center. (www.luther.edu)

Amidst all this learning and eating, don’t forget the dancing! Friday night, August 21, the area’s famed Foot-Notes will play a rousing street dance complete with waltzes, schottisches, polkas, and more in their traditional Scandinavian style. Saturday night features a garden party at local gardener and photographer David Cavagnaro’s home with “Maritza“. Cavagnaro, whose photographs have graced the pages of national magazines such as “Mother Jones,” “Martha Stewart,” and “National Geographic,” is the founder of a new gardening program called the Pepperfield Project. The project is dedicated to helping individuals of all backgrounds improve their quality of life through classes that will teach how to develop and enhance their relationship with food, cooking, and gardening. As my students all know, it’s finals week! In my class, we are taking a practice CAHSEE exam including an in-class essay. Oh! How we hate to take tests, especially multiple-choice tests. Here are some test tips that I learned in high school and college.

1. Scan through the test before you start. I love doing this, because now I know what I have to do. I can also estimate how long each part will take.
2. Read with a pen. What do I mean? As I read the test, I like to make notes on the side. This helps me stay awake and helps me to remember what I read.
3. Boil it down to two answers. When I don’t know the right answer, I usually can boil it down to two answers. From there, I just take a good guess.

I hope this helps for other students who are taking multiple-choice exams this week! Good luck.

So Seth Godin wrote a post about mediocrity that caught my eye. I was thinking about this very topic this week. Isn’t it always in our best interest to overcome mediocrity? I know many people complain about certain jobs that, well, are worth the whining – I’m thinking of my friend Maritza who used to work at the Ranger’s ballpark despite the fact that she hated baseball.

Seth talks about making sure we don’t slack off in work, but this discussion must go beyond the quality of production. It must be about passion. It’s easier to do 4% less in a job that makes you want to 4% less. This applies to startups, too. The strongest companies are built by the most passionate people.

Of course, we’ve been wired to make the quickest buck. Maritza didn’t take her job at the ballpark because she wanted to learn more about baseball, meet new people, or even gain experience in sales. She took the job for the same reason most people take a job: we needed the money now.

But Maritza soon dumped the job for a new one in a young social marketing company fancorps. The pay wasn’t better, but Maritza was definitely more passionate about this new job. And guess what? It paid even better. Instead of reserving her full potential, she gave Fancorps even more. I’m deeply proud to say her efforts have translated into success at the company as the company grows from her efforts.

So, we should always consider whether our job inspires the best in us.

On the other hand, and I’m sure this is what Seth is talking about, if you’re still figuring out your passion, you still need a job. That might land you in one that’s uninspiring. So why give 4%? Simple. If you’re the low level phone rep from Seth’s post, you will always benefit from a stronger performance. Your boss will notice, and the customer’s will notice. Happy boss = potential benefits. Happy customers = guaranteed benefits. You see, it’s easy giving people something mediocre because most often people will take it. The grocer doesn’t have to ask me how I’m doing, and I’m not expecting it. But the next waiter, phone rep, chef, lawyer that gives me those extra 4% moments will make a small-but-beneficial difference.

costa caribe is the house band at maritza cabinas y hotel. sunday is the main night. make sure you get in early or you will be standing outside looking in from the front or on the road. the bar holds about 70 in a real tight squeeze. musica, imperial, sopa & etc

all the musicians are fabuloso but the brother on the right is my favourite as he reminds me of jimi hendrix when he goes solo. costa caribe band itself has about seven people and they cover everything from soul to salsa to calypso and everything else in between

great family owned business ran by two sisters. always quiet and right across from the beach and close very close to the centre of puerto viejo. great cooks downstairs and they have a live band with the most happenin night being sunday where if you don’t come early you will be looking on from outside
