I decided last night to really try out some of Mark Bittman’s 101 recipes. A check into his blog a couple times a year, to see what he’s been cooking, but I’ve never really gone to the kitchen to try them, even though I think Bittman’s way of seeing cooking is written out for people like me.

I don’t have much cooking experience, but I rely on intuition, about measurements, temperatures and times of cooking, as well of course a sense of how to combine a few basic ingredients, with in mind achieving a refreshing and delicious, if not novel, taste. And this is exactly what Bittman spells out in his recipes. He supposedly offers a “minimalist” way of food preparation, cooking with a very simple style based on combining ingredients without following a s strict set of instructions– Trying to use common ingredients in unique combinations, for a great taste, for a reasonable cost, with a simpple way of cooking, from a location grown near you.

… Tonight’s dinner, featured among 99 other recipes in Bittman’s recent Thanksgiving list, I chose and adapted Baked Beet with crumbled blue cheese and olive oil dressing, and dined with an apple, radish, and celery seasoned salad.

To begin this series of posts, I offer a photo in today’s homecoming of vegetables, fruit and herbs, just in from the market.

The first question :

Can you name all 16 ingredients (not counting the water) seen in these photos?

More blogging in this series to come…

Dubai can count itself amongst the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The splendid weat

Dubai can count itself amongst the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The splendid weather, beaches and unbelievable shopping have been the ingredients for unforgettable holidays for years. But of course Dubai has much more to offer. These are the 25 highlights for your memorable visit to one of the fastest growing cities in the world;

Traveling to Dubai, one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates on the Arabian Peninsula, is one of the most rewarding and stimulating trips that one can take. Not only is it a beautiful location, but it is rich in history and culture. The possibilities are almost limitless as far as what you can see and do while you are there, but here are some suggestions for those who need some direction.

1) Visit the Dubai National Museum. The Dubai museum is located on the Al Fahidi Fort, which was built in 1799 to protect Dubai against invasions. It was converted to a museum in 1993 and now houses a vast collection of artifacts. Not only that, but it gives you a glimpse into the lives of those in the region with beautiful depictions of everyday life.

2) Shop and marvel at the Heritage and Diving Village, located at the mouth of a creek. Potters and weavers display their crafts and present tourists with Dubai’s heritage in a traditional village. The Heritage and Diving Village recreates the way Bedouin life used to be in Dubai.

3) Learn about the history of Dubai at Sheikh’s Saeed House, a listed national monument. Once the official residence of the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh’s Saeed House now has a collection of photographs, documents, coins, and stamps that are quite rare.

4) Witness the beauty of the Jumeirah mosque. One of the largest and most beautiful mosques is the Jumeirah Mosque. It is a spectacular example of modern Islamic architecture that is built in stone, according to the medieval Fatimid tradition. It is especially nice at night extra, when subtle lighting enhances the beauty of the craftsmanship.

5) Travel back in time in Bastakia, and view some of the oldest buildings in Dubai. Here you can see traditional wind-towered, mud-walled houses. In the summer, the wind towers would funnel the sea breeze, protecting the people from the overwhelming heat.

6) View the camel race area where traditional sports take place and go to Sheikh Zayed road, where you can view the towers of the Dubai sky line and the Emirates towers. The Emirates towers are the 10th highest building in the world.

7) Find out why Dubai is called the “City of Gold” at the gold market. Purchase goods, or just view the splendor and beauty of jewelry and other gold goods. The Middle East is a huge market for gold with the world’s highest per capita sales. Dubai is the center of the region where more than 150 tons of gold are sold each year.
Wander over to a Souk or a traditional market to view gorgeous fabrics or just travel through the streets of Old Dubai. The Souk is located on both sides of the creek, but the best side to venture to is the Deira side. The spice market is a must-see and smell.

9) Ride a camel in the desert so you can experience the beauty and vastness of the region. While you are at it, climb the sand dunes too.

10) Learn about the culture and customs of the people at Hatta Village, which is considered one of the most ancient locations in Dubai. Hatta Village is completely fortified and contains thirty houses that have been restored to their ancient style. It contains a splendid, old mosque which is over 200 years old. Once you have grown tired from exploration, rest at the oasis and seating areas.

Still slightly stunned and generally ecstatic about the success of this past weekend’s Greenpo

Still slightly stunned and generally ecstatic about the success of this past weekend’s Greenpoint Food Market. WOW!

Two kinds of kim chee, empanadas, cake lolly pops (going after the king cupcake of the dessert world), soups, breads, lime rickys, tempeh, pickles, and stuff I didn’t even get to I was so slammed at the MOMBUCHA table. Can’t thank you guys enough, those of you who are reading this and stopped by. Anastasia and I were tickled mauve by your curiosity and compliments on the stuff we’ve been working (and fighting) pretty hard over.

We mowed through 16 bottles of our pungent elixir pretty swiftly throughout the day and carted off a couple Half Moon Baby starter sets. We realized halfway through that we might’ve exceeded the price point of the babies and have slashed their prices in HALF! We’ve still got one or two cryogenically chilling in our fridge so anyone who wishes to claim them, come forth!

As for feedback thus far, we were nonplussed to find out that one or two bottles might have been sweeter than what we were serving as samples. This threw off one of our customers who so thoughtfully and creatively described the experience of drinking his bottled MOMBUCHA as “hipster vitamin water.” Haven’t really gotten my brain around how hipster culture bleeds into Coca-Cola’s bastard child of Gatorade but it was a unique response nonetheless.

What really hurt, however, was that this person saw it fit to end the email with, “worst kombucha ever,” which is not just insulting, it’s an absolutist position that leaves no room to make amends. We offered to personally replace this person’s bottle but received nothing more than an UNSUBSCRIBE response. I don’t expect this person to be reading this but if you or anyone else who is unsatisfied with their purchase, the offer stands firm.

As many of you reading this are probably aware from the mass “THANK YOU” email we sent out yesterday, we absolutely taste test every batch before it gets bottled up but it’s not unlikely that some batches, as each one is brewed in small 4 quart bowls, accounts for some slight flavor profile variations. Our blend starts out as a sugary brew of black tea which, when combined with the yeast/Acetobacter culture and left to ferment for a week, most of the sugar in the tea gets eaten by the microorganisms to grow and is then replaced with all the magic goodness that makes kombucha so awesome for you. If the batch is removed from this process too soon, the tea will have not acidified properly leaving the sugary tea as the most perceptible flavor in the final product.

Now that we’re no longer on the crazy time crunch to get everything done before the market, we’re on the path of taking our time and bottling only the most pungent, tart, tangy, power-packed, earthy, yummy MOMBUCHA we set out to serve. We’ll let you know when it’s ready, probably sometime next Monday or Tuesday.

HOORAY!

David Bianco, head of U.S. equity strategy at BoAML, raised his 12-month S&P 500 target to 1275 from 1200, after raising his 2010 normalized EPS estimate to $79 from $76.

He said the financials, energy and technology sectors, all almost equally responsible for almost the entire EPS raise.

“We remain over-weight all three of these sectors and expect strong appreciation. Excluding Financials & Energy, we forecast 2010 EPS up 12% and 2011 up 8%,” he said in a note to clients.

Over the next month or so, Mr. Bianco expects the S&P 500 will continue to advance and hit 1100 by the end of this year.

Accessibility for blocks of the internal market in Singapore has improved over 2007. E 'primaril

Accessibility for blocks of the internal market in Singapore has improved over 2007. E 'primarily because of low interest rates. Condominium project allowed outside the central region are driving the market recovery. Demand for construction outside the central region has increased to 40 percent of total private real estate transactions in Singapore. Developers have the opportunity to launch on the market at competitive prices in the first condominiumquarter of 2009. More than half of buyers were HDB upgrader.

The number of private construction, which must be completed between 2009 to 2013 is estimated around 11,000. Compared to 1996 – 2000, there are about 40,000 available that include both public and private housing, the number of units completed during the last five years has dropped to 13,000 units per year, according to the Government to reduce the number housing.

The population has increased subsistenceestimated annual rate of 1.4 percent over the last 10 years. Based on statistics, the annual demand is about 16,000. There is also a strong demand for public housing the government for three and four models of the room. Demand for Sengkang Punggol and this year has created a situation of over-subscriptions. Thanks to strong demand for housing, causing an effect of encroachment on private construction. Upgrader majority were social housing.

With this increased demand, prices are also beginningincreasing steadily since early 2009. For example, an average price of a prize of three bedrooms, has increased to an average price of $ 600psf, which is similar to the peak in 2007. In addition, lower interest rates has also improved the attractiveness of national comdominium.

However, the recent launch of the second quarter of the year was to show significantly higher prices. The proposed new current market is complete at an average price of$ 950psf. Project just completed and near the station has attracted many serious buyers who are willing to pay a premium. For example, the resale price of Casa Merah after seeing the price increase to $ 850psf.

However, with the average price is $ 900 PSF, which many people can afford the monthly payment. With this the beginning of pressure drop in form. The caveat in August showed a smaller proportion of public housing recovery.

With growth in Singaporeand infrastructure, the country attracted many investors from overseas. These investors believe that there are other good sides in the long term. The Singapore economy has done better than expected in 2009, primarily due to expenses of recovery by the government.

Recently the government has taken measures to curb speculation cooling, which can lead to house price of condominiums. However, these measures do not affect condominium in May with good positionas Casa Merah.

The black Wii is ready in the stores for the holiday season, and obviously demand for the system is on the rise. Nintendo had a fall in Wii sales not too long ago, but that was perhaps just a small irregularity. It appears this black version goes for being “smart looking”.

Smart looking. And I had hoped that the ignorant masses had finally seen the light, and that the system of a free market actually works.

So now its black, but it’s still the good old Wii. Or good for some at least, because I have no idea why people want to keep buying this thing. Compared to its competitors, the Wii systenm has a terribly outdated hardware. Even more importantly, Nintendo doesn’t seem to be able to whip up good games for their console.

The problem with the Wii is that there is about a handful of good games for it, and then a million pieces of trash.

I mean, who doesn’t love the Mario games and the Zelda games, right? Well that’s all jolly good if they weren’t the only good games for the console; which is not far from the truth. I had high expectations for the Wii when it was just released. Those high expectations were soon drowned by uttermost disappointment.

The Wii system continues to sell well to the ignorant masses. And I can’t cease to be puzzled about how people want to be fooled by marketing campaigns.

So this year has been a rather interesting year.

Towards the beginning of the year, I applied for a course at the Market Photo Workshop, thinking nothing of it. I thought it may be a good idea to apply, seeing that I have been trying to follow my photographic dream for the last few years. I almost forgot about the course letting corporate life swing past me in a blur.

Out of the blue, I received a call saying I had been shortlisted and was now required to a portfolio. Again, I thought to myself that not much would come from this, but I submitted none the less. I thought that should I be accepted, I would defer the course for a little to save up for the course. As it turns out, they loved my images and offered me a bursary. This is the break I have been looking for in order to further my photography.

So, it’s almost the end of November. Work is winding down. And I am getting gradually more excited for the new year. This is going to be an awesome experience and I can’t wait to follow my dream.

I know that I sound like an excited child thinking that there may be millions to be made. I know this is not true. I know that this will be a tough life, but I am sure that I will be able to express my creative side and this will bring me more joy than any amount of money ever could.

And so, I stand on the precipice of a new career, and essentially a new way of life. And I can’t wait!

So, as a new chapter in my life unfolds, this will be my outlet for you all to know…

Peace!

Due to the uncertainity of liquidity support, I’m now cashed-out. I’ll re-evaluate, or take swing-trades based on technicals, through January only. I’ll total it all up later.

I see that the Federal Reserve are as helpful as ever:

St. Louis Fed member Bullard said over the weekend that he favors extending the Fed’s program of purchasing mortgage-backed securities beyond the 1st Q next year.

This adds many more months to the low rates for an ‘extended period of time.’ His comments have pummeled the US Greenback, and as the dollar fell, stock futures soared. Gold hit fresh record highs.

The Changing MSL Role: Proving Value through Performance Measurement (PH 115) report ( http://www.bh

The Changing MSL Role: Proving Value through Performance Measurement (PH 115) report ( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=77306&rt=The-Changing-MSL-Role-Proving-Value-through-Performance-Measurement.html ) assesses that In the past, medical science liaisons (MSLs) served a traditional role as scientific support to sales. But market realities, including fewer drug approvals and increasing regulatory demands, have led companies to put a premium on building productive relationships with key opinion leaders and supporting company objectives through medical education.

Today, MSLs are evolving into a more independent, highly strategic function. Innovative companies rely heavily on MSLs’ scientific expertise to support educational, training, research and clinical initiatives. MSLs are emerging as solutions-driven knowledge workers and as peer-level conduits to leaders in the medical community. Through MSLs, thought leaders gain access to company decision-makers in areas such as clinical development, medical affairs, and marketing.

MSLs are in a pivotal position to influence corporate strategy. Forward-thinking organizations that recognize MSLs’ shift in responsibilities and leverage the function’s scientific expertise can adapt their strategies to measure MSL performance. They are ultimately better poised for success.

This study covers these key aspects of MSL programs:

* Structure, Budgets and Staffing: This section details companies’ structuring and alignment strategies, investment levels, and headcounts.

* MSL Qualifications and Performance Measurement: This section explores the increasing educational and clinical experience required for MSL candidates. It includes compensation data. It also examines ways in which companies gauge MSL effectiveness and contributions to company goals.

* Field Force Strategies and Communication: This section outlines MSL activities and responsibilities. It also examines the connections between sales forces and MSLs in the new compliance environment and provides recommendations for integrated communications between those groups.

European wheat ended 0,50€/T lower at 133 €/T. At the beginning of last week, wheat collected its gains thanks to fund buying. On Wednesday, the intraweek high of 135,75 €/T melted away due to the sales activity of cooperatives and a lack of demand.

The recent gains on the grain markets is caused by fund activity. Our position report shows that speculative funds (US) are still on the buyers’ side. They have taken a long position for wheat (1.247 contracts). They have increased their long position for corn (212.653 contracts) and soybeans (90.841 contracts).

Nai Sadak market is an amazing market in the center of Varanasi (Benaras) where most of the Muslims shopkeepers sell any kind of fabrics.
I always enjoy going there not only for some inspiration that I find for my work but also because this place allows my mind to travel with its fantastic touch of Orientalism.
It is a timeless bazaar where most of the people wear traditional garments, where so many colours, music and scents are mixing.
This picture was shot there, those ladies who must belong to the same family were happy to find what they were looking for.
Their happiness attracted my camera.
Nai Sadak means “New Road”.
