Patricia Field, Sex and the City stylist, launched a collection for British High Street fashion favourite Marks and Spencer last week and it’s proving to be a hit. In fact, even I popped in on the weekend and gushed over her pop art inspired clutch.

The collection consists of 35 pieces and will not only be sold in the UK- it will also be avaliable online and in selected international markets.

This is an opportunity for all women to own a piece desgned by the woman who dresses Carrie in Sex and the City, this is big stuff.

Kate Bostock, M&S’s executive director of clothing told Vogue magazine, “This year is the perfect time for this unique opportunity, with the Sex and the City movie hitting screens, to showcase a range specially designed by the woman who created such amazing looks in so many films and TV series.”

After eyeing up the clutch, my focus is now on the flirty pink layered dress. Race you there!

Here is one of my first attempts at designing using Illustrator. Its good fun but I’m starting to think its really not me. Well, I suppose if I became totally fluent using it, but at the moment it just looks very flat and unsophisticated. Ah, well, early days.As you can see I haven’t even worked out how to save the file properly as this image shows the whole work space not just the printable part!

I’ve had some good feedback from New Designers this week- a weeks work placement at Tigerprint and an invitation to work with an agent based in Cheshire. Tigerprint design all the gift ranges for Marks&Spencer and are a branch of Hallmark so it should be interesting seeing how that industry works. The agent also sounds really positive, she seemed to really like the work she’d seen in London.

Its difficult at the moment because of the school holidays. I really want to get on and DO something, work on a project, start the rest of my life post CCAD, but its too tempting to be distracted by the children and the garden. Everyone seems to want feeding all the time and never at the same time and never the same thing!

I had a look at Carl and Lyndsay’s blogs and they both seem to be busy being creative.Carl is working on T-shirt designs which will be for sale at Darlington Creative Market…I’m not sure what or when this is so I’ll have to find out more because it sounds like it might be worth a day out. Lyndsay is about to do some work placement at Hallmark.

Time for coffee and making plans.

Anyone who has picked up a newspaper or watched the news on the television over the last few months can’t help but notice that the current buzz words are ‘green’ and ‘ethical.’  Politicians are firmly on the bandwagon and partly due to the government offering incentives for being carbon neutral, so are the big companies.  Obviously some companies are more ethically minded than others.  For example the Co-Operative Bank have always had an ethical policy.

Recently both Tesco and Marks&Spencer have announced so called ‘green’ policies.  Tesco is to have carbon labelling on 70,000 product lines and M&S have announced a £220million programme to be carbon neutral by 2012.

There are other statistics to suggest the public’s changing viewpoint on ethical and green matters.  A recent MORI poll indicated that 78% of us want companies to tell us about their responsibility to customers, employees, communities and the environment.  Mintel predict that British shoppers will spend £2million on Fair Trade and organic products in 2007.  This will be a 62% increase from 2002.

The indications are that it’s not just shoppers who are ethically minded but investors as well.  The Co-Operative Bank has shown that monies in ethical finance (that’s ethical banking and investment) now invest £11.6 billion a year.  That’s up from £10.6 billion in 2005.  No wonder that ‘green’ money is the fastest growing sector at the moment!!
