Dead Set (2008) edición en DVD

Para los que no me conozcáis os diré que las series no son lo mío, de hecho no sigo ninguna, me desesperan… O bien, tienes que esperarte cada semana al capítulo de turno o bien si consigues las temporadas, haces sesiones maratonianas y lo ves todo de golpe… Para mí las series se remontan a mi infancia y juventud, cuando mirábamos (Dr. Slump, Capità Harlock, Musculman, Bola de Drac, Chico Terremoto, etc…), pero en la actualidad, cero.

Además, con todos mis respetos pero el panorama nacional en cuanto a series se refiere, es lamentable, cutre y casposo. Para que luego digan que la serie B o Z es una mierda… En fin! Pero si cruzamos el charco y nos fijamos en las series yankees, entonces la cosa cambia: House, Futurama, Padre de Familia, Los Simpson, etc… Eso sí que son series! Pero lo reconozco, soy incapaz de tener una constancia con las series, en mi mente, siempre están las películas que todavía no he visto, me han recomendado, me he comprado recientemente,… pero nunca diré, pues voy a ver, Roma, por ejemplo.

No obstante, y tras el verano, y debido principalmente a un parón medio-forzado a nivel literario, he vuelto a recuperar un gadget que estaba criando polvo: mi PSP! Y ahora, en vez de utilizarla para jugar, gracias a un programa llamado Total Video Converter, puedo coger cualquier archivo de video y convertirlo al formato de la PSP. De este modo, voy por el metro con mi PSP mirando mis peliculillas!

Y qué elegí para hacer la prueba ¿?

Dead Set - Reality Bites

Dead Set! Sí, sí… ya sé, elegí una serie, pero tenía que darle una oportunidad! La verdad es que tras el éxito que obtuvo el año pasado y los personajes que aparecen, zombis… ejem, quise decir, infectados, me predispuse a ello. Dead Set o Muerte en Directo es una serie inglesa, dirigida por Yann Demange (4 episodios) y su creador es Charlie Brooker (Episodio 1), y supuso uno de los mayores éxitos del año pasado de la cadena E4, especializada en series y shows televisivos. Está dividida en sólo 5 capítulos, siendo el primero el de mayor duración aprox. 45 minutos, y los 4 restantes, aprox. 25 minutos.

La serie nos introduce en pleno Big Brother, o lo que es lo mismo, Gran Hermano, y es día de expulsión. Como siempre, el dichoso programa presenta seres, que no es lo mismo que concursantes, esperpénticos y totalmente, prescindibles, pero que están ahí. Cumplen con todos los clichés establecidos de estos programas chorras y tenemos a los siguientes engendros:

• Joplin (Kevin Eldon), un cuarentón salido.
• Marky (Warren Brown), el guaperas follador.
• Veronica (Beth Cordingly), la buenorra folladora.
• Space (Adam Deacon), un inadaptado social.
• Pippa (Kathleen McDermott), guapetona sin cerebro.
• Angel (Chizzy Akudolu), negrata desapercibida.
• Grayson (Raj Ghatak), la locaza del lugar.

Paralelamente, encontramos otros personajes que en mayor o menor medida están relacionados con ellos: Davina McCall (interpretándose a ella misma),  presentadora del show Big Brother y zombie de pro, es como si Mercedes Milà apareciese en plan necrófaga (que a veces ya lo parece), Patrick (Andy Nyman), productor del programa y uno de los personajes más interesantes; Kelly (Jaime Winstone), ayudante de producción=chica para todo; Riq (Riz Ahmed), novio y cornudo de Kelly; Alex (Liz May Brice), una verdadera superviviente, en toda regla, lástima de su consciencia; etc, etc…

Continuando con la trama, toca día de expulsión, y todo el equipo del programa y los habitantes de la casa (ratones) están preparándose para ello. De mientras, Riq oliéndose que su relación con Kelly tiene problemas se dirige a la casa del Big Brother, y la madre de Pippa (la expulsada) es trasladada por un vehículo del programa también hacía allí. Pero sus respectivos trayectos se verán interrumpidos por unos autostopistas accidentados, un tanto extraños. Riq directamente se queda sin coche, prefiere huir a enfrentarse a ellos; y la madre de Pippa & equipo, recogen a uno de ellos malherido! La situación no pinta muy bien, el herido está muy grave, y está a punto de palmarla; y efectivamente, nada más llegar al control de los estudios y plató, sucede lo que tenía que suceder y lo que todos temíamos, INFECCIÓN!

Entretanto, el programa se va desarrollando con normalidad, se expulsa a Pippa, se muestran disputas y discusiones entre engendros, Kelly se lo intenta montar con su nuevo rollete, y Davina se lo pasa en grande presentando su particular show. No obstante, por el montón de monitores que hay en la sala de producción, se van mostrando imágenes de otros lugares de UK, con disturbios, notícias de saqueos, enfrentamientos, etc… Poco a poco, se nos está preparando para lo que tendrá que venir, todo ello preparado con ciertos toques Romerianos!

Una vez desatado el primer incidente y contagio, se desata el pánico y terror! Los centenares de fans parapetados la puerta de la casa, el equipo de producción, los espectadores junto con Davina, todos irán cayendo como moscas, puesto que los infectados irán mordiendo a diestro y siniestro! Momentos de caos y aniquilación, suceden a momentos de total desinformación y absoluto desconcierto! Carne por ahí, despedazados por allá, persecuciones frenéticas, sangre por doquier, e Infectados, muchos infectados,… y lo que queda por llegar!

Los primeros supervivientes van apareciendo: Patrick con Pippa en un cuartucho vigilado por la hambrienta de Davina (muy buena, su interpretación como zombie), Riq encuentra a Alex, una tía de armas tomar, y Kelly, encerrada en otro cuartucho, con su rollete, esperándola para zampársela! Logrará salir del despacho gracias a unas tijeras, y llegar hasta la casa (tras sortear algún infectado), pero cuando llega ahí, la toman por una prueba o juego más. El chulo de Mark, con sus ganas de lucirse, abre la puerta y patapam, se les cuela un intruso… perdón, quise decir, infectado! Total que ya tenemos, la infección en la casa, y la primera en caer, será Angel, la invisible. Grayson parece ser que sabe de enfermería, se quedará con ella en el invernadero, pero necesitará medicamentos; así que mandará de excursión a algunos ratones de la casa. De todas formas, ya sabemos lo que acabará pasando… Entonces, Kelly, Mark & Space deciden salir de la casa a por los medicamentos, y tras un estudiado y arduo plan (es decir, una cacerolada) consiguen escabullirse del centenar de infectados que está a las puertas de la casa.

Davina McCall Zombie

Durante su excursión, nuestros protas además de encontrarse con más infectados (obvio), les sorprende una patrulla de la poli, un tanto estúpida e idiota, por así decirlo. Gracias a este encuentro los ratones se hacen con un par de armas, que luego, utilizarán en la casa de Big BLotheL! Mientras en la casa, pasa lo que tenía que pasar, Angela se convierte y ataca a Grayson, pero con la mala fortuna para Angela que se queda atrapada en la piscina del jardín, sin posibilidad de poder salir… parece una respuesta un tanto estúpida, pero si partimos de la base que son no muertos, su conducta no tendría que sorprendernos. Y en un momento de duda compasiva, Grayson está a punto de morder a Joplin y Veronica, pero tras otro estupendo y bien elaborado plan, logran cargárselo.

Mientras tanto, Riq y Angela en sus peripecias por sobrevivir, y llegar a algún lugar sanos y salvos, encuentran una casa de campo deshabitada. Parece ser que para Alex es el escondite ideal (y la mayoría hubiésemos hecho lo mismo), pero el burro de Riq a través del TV, descubrirá que Kelly, todavía está viva y en la casa de Gran Hermano. No entendemos muy bien por qué, pero Riq logra convencer a Alex, para que lo acompañe en su periplo hacía el estudio… Y eso representará su fin!

Cuando los excursionistas, regresan de nuevo a la casa, descubren a Angela convertida, pegándose un bañito en la piscina… Por lo que deciden ahorrarle sufrimiento! Y como han habido bajas en la casa, nada mejor que volver a traer carne fresca! Patrick y Pippa, logran deshacerse de Davina, que ya empezaba a ponerse un poco cansina, y consiguen llegar hasta donde están nuestros ratones… Obviamente, el carácter de Patrick nos tendrá reservadas muchas sorpresas! De nuevo volvemos a centrarnos en Riq que con más pena que gloria consigue llegar a la valla de la casa, y a punto de volarle la tapa de los sesos están… pero ya se sabe, los tontolitos deben permanecer unidos.

A partir de entonces, y con este nuevo ‘grupo’ de Brothers, empieza el desenlace, y por tanto, el espectáculo final. Cada vez las cosas van de mal en peor, sobre todo, gracias al personaje de Patrick un capullo egoísta, que hace alarde en todo momento, de quién manda en la casa. Pero eso, siendo productor de un show televisivo, quizás le funcione, pero dentro de la casa, se trata de sobrevivir, y no le saldrá como él esperaba… Eso sí, aporta ese lado hijoputa y cabrón, sin escrúpulos ni miramientos, enseñándonos que lo que importan son los resultados y no el método… Si añadimos una situación caótica y falta de ciertos vínculos entre algunos personajes, obtendremos un auténtico desastre. Y es que el final no podía entenderse de otra manera, es decir, si hubiera habido cualquier otro final o uno alternativo, mi indignación hubiera sido mayúscula, pero ante las premisas anteriormente mencionadas, la serie da al público lo que espera, un gran ataque zombie en toda regla!

Los elementos positivos de la serie son muchos, tan sólo me reitero en lo anteriormente mencionado, ya me gustaría a mí, ver por estos lares, producciones a lo Dead Set… Los zombis o infectados están muy bien caracterizados, y con poco, consiguen crear unos seres aterradores! Además, las escenas de gore están muy bien conseguidas, con unos buenos FX’s se obtienen secuencias muy buenas de casquería y vísceras, desmembramientos, decapitaciones, descuartizaciones,… Dead Set tiene para todos los gustos.
Y como elementos negativos, pero a modo de puntillas personales mencionaría estos: que hasta el 5º episodio no se mencione la palabra zombie (anteriormente infectados – pandemia); que nuestros protas tengan habilidades heroicas (disparo), haciendo de un dead shot, el tiro más fácil del mundo; que en ciertos momentos nuestros zombies sean incongruentes, a veces parecen super agresivos y con una fuerza descomunal y otros en cambio no puedan romper el cristal de una puerta, cuando lo están aporreando con la cabeza.

A modo de conclusión me atrevo a decir, que el éxito de Dead Set, sea lo que es realmente, una serie inspirada en Big Brother, y que quizás no hubiese obtenido tanto éxito o notoriedad, si se hubiese presentado como una película, es decir, sería una peli más de zombies… Pero en cambio, al ser una serie, es ahí, donde ha sabido conectar o enganchar con cierto tipo de público, seguidor y consumidor de series, que ha visto con buenos ojos y la ha acogido con los brazos abiertos aunque sea una serie de terror y zombies!

The first rock song which impressed me was a song called “Co-dependent” by a band called ADEMA. It really got me into rock music and the music world. I remember it was 2004 when I was playing NHL 2004. The soundtracks included this song which felt different from all the other songs — others were all in punk tune and I did not like them at that time. My memory glides over the moments when I was searching the official website of the band on the net –ademaonline.com.

Being a beginner internet user I realized that the site needed a flash player 6. Downloaded it and the whole website came with the loader percentage bar and a song that you could here. It was not Co-dependent. When the loader reached 100%, the whole website opened. You could listen to three songs: Unstable, Stressin, and Co-dependent. The song “Stressin” got me even more and became my second favorite rock song ever. Nobody knows how deep I have traveled into rock music since then.

ADEMA began their work in Bakersfield,LA in 2001 with their two singles “Giving In” and “The Way You Like It” which received a lot of attention. The band consisted of:

1. Marky Chavez (Lead Vocals)
2. Tim Fluckey (Guitars)
3. Mike Ranson (Guitars)
4. Dave DeRoo (Bass)
5. Kris Kohls (Drums)

Their debut self-titled album was released in 2001 and sold over 600,000. These guys did not stop and they published an EP (Extended Play) in 2002 called “Insomniac Dream.”

ADEMA were enjoying themselves and touring but the troubles ate them from inside and outside. The first trouble came along as a conflict between Marky and Mike. The conflict remained through the production of Unstable, the band’s second studio album and the tour. Finally, the conflict led to the departure of Mike from the band shortly before the next affliction; Arista Records which published the band’s albums wanted to drop them and they did drop ADEMA from their bands list. Shortly afterward, Marky left the band leaving the remaining trio in doubt to continue.

In 2004, the band recruited a singer, Luke Caraccioli, Rewind Yesterday’s singer, whose voice was not appreciated by the fans simply because of being softer than that of Marky. ADEMA released their third studio album, Planets, which was more of a rock sound than Unstable album which was labeled Nu-metal –the label Kris does not approve of about his band. The album did not sell badly and they toured well. However, Luke decided to quit in 2005 leaving the other members feeling betrayed.

In 2006, ADEMA called in the singer of LA band, LEVEL, Bobby Reeves, to sing for ADEMA; later Ed Faris from the same band joined them, too. Bobby’s voice was appreciated more than Luke’s because of its being similar to that of Marky’s hard voice. The band recorded and released an album in 2007 called Kill the Headlights, their 4th studio album. The album received acclaim from the fans however, Immortal Records, the band’s label, did not proceed to release any promotion video for any of the song in the album.

In 2009, the original members ADEMA reunited to record their next album. Bobby and Ed agreed to leave. The fans, including me, are waiting anxiously for the next album.

I’m excited for the weekend.  I feel like I have fun activities in store.  Fun by my definition anyways.

It’s Jessica’s bday on sunday but we’re celebrating tonight.  We’re gonna be lowkey and just have a nice meal and kick it grownz up style.

Tomorrow I’m gonna go see Madeleine’s new digs as she has moved to my neck of the woods, not down the street but definitely closer than Pilsen.

Then sunday me and Caroline are going to Bed Bath and Beyond to give our bathroom a makeover.

Yes, like I said before, these things are exciting to me and me alone.  LOL.  Caroline moving in has given me the push I needed to inject new life into my flat.  I’ve been meaning to do it for ages but really just never did it.  Sometimes I need some drastic change to happen to motivate me to get a move on.

Marky – Antidote

This is my favourite cartoon which I can’t miss on my favourite channel. This cartoon differs from all other cartoons. The reason is not because I like it but because the way this has been created and the story exactly fit the funny characters. In many cartoons, we can see always a common win-lose situation, for example in Tom and Jerry – Jerry always win. Another example is for Woody Woodpecker – Woody always win. In Lucky Luke – Lucky Luke always win. But the amazing thind about this cartoon is that Oggy does not always win, sometimes the cockroaches also win. This make the cartoon more interesting.

Let me present you the characters:

Oggy

A content and lazy, fat blue cat who spend his days watching TV and cooking. Having lived with the cockroaches for a long time, Oggy has develop a love-hate relationship with them. In most episodes, the relationship is portrayed as hatred between the cockroaches and Oggy but in some episodes, Oggy and the cockroaches reconcile together under emotions. Oggy has come to realize that without the cockroaches, nothing fun or interesting ever happens in his life.

Here is Jack – He is the other cat in the show and the friend of Oggy. He is short-tempered, arrogant and

violent. He is a perfect target for the cockroaches to annoy. He can often bully Oggy as well at times. The amazing fact about him is that his telephone number is 2 in the episode. LOL.

Joey

He is pink in colour and a purple-headed roach with pink right eye and yellow left eye. He is the self-proclaimed leader of the roaches. Even though he’s the smallest roach in the gang, most of the time he’s the brains behind the operations, but is sometimes forced to go solo, because his companions think his plans are stupid.

Dee Dee

He is the ever-hungry cockroach. He sometimes goes insane with appetite resulting in the consumption of larger animals.

Marky – He is a suave heartbreaking, grey-bodied, green-headed roach with pink eyes, often not really caring about what the two others are doing. While he originally used to love causing mischief just like the other cockroaches, he has grown to be more laid-back in later episodes, though he still enjoys hanging out with Joey and Dee Dee and cause general mayhem like he has always done. His hobby is dating girls – even puppets – and reading books.

Monica – Oggy’s sister and Jack’s love-interest.  She is well known for being very active and likes to take on physical challenges such as sky diving and bungee jumping.  Out of all the main characters, she has the least amount of appearances; even fewer than Bob.

Bob – Oggy’s huge neighbor dog, – though he’s not mentioned in the opening credits – is one frequent star in the show. While Bob tries to live his life as quietly and calmly as possible, the next door racket usually results in destruction of his property, for which he usually responds with pummeling one of the cats. This mostly happens off-screen, usually because the image is changed to silly wallpaper-like backgrounds; the only hint the viewer gets is fighting sounds and cat-squealing.

This animated series is produced by Gaumont Film Company and Nelvana in 2004. Frankly, this is the best cartoon I have ever seen in my life. All those who has discovered this cartoon, please go for it – your stress will fade out into laughter.
