Seven Long Weeks in Turkey – Here is what I learned from my experience there!

Turkey used to be a very cheap place, but now they are now catching up with the world.  It is still reasonably much cheaper than most places.  I spent seven weeks in Icmeler in Marmaris, which was an experience in my opinion.  Being away from my family, which consists of a husband and two teenage sons was undeniably very different for me!  I was free of housework chores, washing, ironing and cooking!  I had only myself to look after, which was pretty much a luxurious lifestyle for me.  Although, I did miss my family and friends, I was determined to enjoy and experience the Turkish countryside and the sun!  I was not there for just fun and pleasure, but for my work too.

The food and the accommodation is always much cheaper than most places in Europe.  The currency is the Turkish Lira and with this you will get 2.5 to the sterling pound and 2.25 to the Euro.

During my stay in Turkey, I stayed at a hotel called the Kapmar Otel.  this was based in Icmeler, which is only a ten minute bus ride to Marmaris.  This hotel was well equipped with clean and comfortable rooms, a bar and seating areas with a pool and restaurant.  Check it out at www.kapmarotel.com

The food was superb, as I ate there every night and tried nearly every dish from their menu.  The breakfast was mostly English continental and lunches from the menu was equally superb.

I stayed in Icmeler for seven weeks.  I was there with the company I worked for PAL Promotions.  They promote the Blanket trip, which is a free half day excursion that tour operators promote for us.  We worked with tour operators, such as, Thomson and First Choice, so I got to see many different locations and a variety of hotels and apartment complexes whilst working there.

The night life in Icmeler is for everyone.  There are restaurants that give entertainment later in the evening, such as shows like Michael Jackosn impersonators, a robot dance, belly dancing, Turkish nights and a waiter’s dance where all the waiters get up and dance for their guests.  In Icmeler you can also see the Stella show, which is a one man drag show who impersonates and mimes to songs by stars, such as, Tina Turner, Cher, Dolly Parton, Shirley Bassey and many more.  It is very funny, entertaining and has a twist at the end that turns out to be brilliant. There are, also, many karaoke bars that do competitions and two night clubs in the area called Eastenders and Pleasure.  I attended both of these night clubs and danced to some great up and coming dance tunes that are out in the charts today.  The music choice for Eastenders night club is excellent in my opinion.

One thing I really noticed, as my time in Icmeler was passing by, was how there were many single women taking their holidays there on their own.  I noticed that most women either came back to look for a Turkish man or they have one already and they were coming back to see them.  They are looking for a Turkish husband or rather the men look for the English women.  The only drawback is that some men are looking for women with money. In my opinion, I would advise all women to be very careful if they meet a man who is suspiciously asking them about their finances all the time.  If a man asks for money or says he is in need of money urgently, then stay away from him!

Most Turkish men are very loving and passionate.  Some are genuine and very kind if you find the right one.  So, be warned, as most do look for women all the time and are on the prowl.   Turkish Muslim men are allowed to have more than one wife! Of course, according to Turkish law this is forbidden, but this still occurs with Muslims today!

The beach in Icmeler is sandy and has some wonderful sea views.  There are water sports to enjoy too.  Also, a boat can be taken from here into Marmaris that costs 7 lira per person.  The views are breath taking and amazing.  Another way, is by getting the bus, which costs 2 lira per person one way.  Also, on Icmeler beach you can get a massage.  The best time for this is in late afternoon when the sun is not so strong.  The only draw back is that you need to check whether that person giving the massage is qualified to do so, as you could end up paying out a lot of money for just a normal back rub!  A lady I met who had a massage on this beach and by the end of that day she was in a lot of pain.  The pain radiated all over her back and later found out that the muscles in her back were bruised!  So, check these people out before having the massage.

Turkey is, also, famous for their Turkish baths.  You can book one for 50 lira with a full body massage included.  The Turkish oils will help to keep a longer lasting tan, so this is a good idea to do at the beginning of the holiday.

There are, also, the famous mud baths in Dalyan.  This is a trip that can booked with your tour operator, such as, Thomson or First Choice.

Another way, to see parts of the area and the mountains is by taking a jeep safari.  This trip can, also, be booked by your tour operator.  You can, also, take a boat trip over to Rhodes, which takes one hour to get to.  It is a good idea to go if you have not been before.

Taking a holiday in Marmaris or Icmeler will in no doubt be an unforgettable experience.  The weather is fantastic in summer with temperatures rising to 50 centigrade in July and August.  A self catering or all inclusive holiday are  available in Turkey with some amazing places to see.  It is an adventure you will not forget!

Then you get into a hot spring pool to clean the mud off. After, you can have a cold shower if you wish. I would suggest wearing clothes in the mud that are cheap and that you don’t mind throwing out after wards! A memorable day out. Bring a camera too!

3. From Icmeler you can take a trip to Rhodes, the greek island, which only takes an hour to get to. Enjoy a whole day in another country. Take the boat up to Marmaris, then another to Rhodes.

4. Jeep Safari – A jeep safari into the wilderness and the nearby villages can be a fascinating adventure. Untouched forests and bays along the way with regular swimming stops, experience the sights outside of Icmeler and Marmaris. This takes you around the countryside and mountains near Icmeler. See places you would not be able to get to by car. The trip takes tourists to places like Kizkuma Beach in Orhaniye Village where there is a legend about walking on water.

5. Experience a Turkish night with lots of traditional Turkish food and dancing. There are many around Icmeler and Marmaris that you can find or book one with your holiday advisor representative, such as, Thomson Holidays.

6. Go and see the Stella Show, which is a one man drag show with a twist at the end of it. Amazing singing with a funny and entertaining laugh all the way through it. Then they take everyone to Bozburn village where you can explore and walk along the harbor or have something to eat at one of the restaurants there. A great trip and you do not have to pay for it!

10. Go on a boat cruise for the day with food included. This will take you out into the ocean for swimming stops too. See the beautiful scenery and visit a village along the way. You can find many places in Icmeler that will sell tickets for many boat trips and they are very cheap!

11. Visit the dolphin park in Marmaris next to the Maris Hotel. You can either swim with them or just go there to watch the dolphins. An amazing experience!

Hallo,

dass wir geschrieben haben, ist mehr als einen Monat her. Was hat sich seitdem getan?

Nun, wir sind in zwei Tagen nach Marmaris gesegelt, davon einen wunderbaren Segeltag und einen unter Motor. Hier haben wir nach einigem Hin und Her einen Liegeplatz im Wasser erhalten und diesen schon mal bis Ende April gebucht und bezahlt. Als erstes haben wir aber einen uns empfohlenen Motorenmechaniker aufgesucht, dessen Werkstatt und seine Dokumentation über unseren alten Motor uns überzeugten. Auf sein Anraten hin ist der ganze Motor raus und wird generalüberholt.

Im Augenblick wird er wieder zusammengesetzt und in der Werkstatt neu eingefahren (etwa 5 Tage) danach wird er eingebaut dann von uns getestet.

Falls die Tests zeigen, dass keine Nacharbeiten notwendig sind, werden wir einen Flug nach Hause buchen, sonst wollen wir gleich noch die Mängel beseitigen lassen, bevor wir nach Hause kommen.

Was gibt es sonst noch zu berichten?

Wir haben einen neuen Bezug für den Bimini machen und eine Rollfockanlage installieren lassen, ein dazu gehöriges Segel bestellt, das aber erst im Frühjahr geliefert werden wird, einen Teppichladen gefunden, der uns einen neuen Teppich liefern könnte, viele Übeholungsarbeiten am Schiff ausgeführt (Wolfgang arbeitet an der Technik, ich an der Farbe, (vor allem zunaechst an der Innenseite der Aussenhaut unter dem Motor, die zu entfetten, zu reinigen, Rost zu kratzen und neu anzumalen war) und dann haben wir uns 11 Tage Urlaub vom Schiff gegönnt. Mit einem Mietauto sind wir zunächst ca 1.300 km nach Osten – nach Urfa – gefahren und haben dort eine 1995 begonne Ausgrabungsstätte besucht, die es bei unserem letzten Besuch in Urfa (1991) noch nicht gab. Auf dem Rückweg nach Marmaris haben wir uns dann Zeit gelassen und viele der Ruinenstätten aus hellenistischer und römischer Zeit und einige der Naturschönheiten besucht. Die Südküste der Türkei ist ausserdem mit gewaltigen Burganlagen aus dem Mittelalter und auch aus späterer Osmanischer Zeit übersät. Wir haben sie uns alle nur aus der Ferne angeschaut. An Naturschönheiten ist zu erwähnen, dass wir von der üppigen Vegetation der Südküste total überrascht waren. Die Berghänge der Küste sind kräftig bewaldet, die Küstenebenen werden intensiv landwirtschaftlich genutzt, davon grosse Flächen unter Glas oder Folie. In der einen Region gibt es riesige Bananenplantagen mit kleinen, sehr gut schmeckenden Früchten (um so erstaunlicher, dass wir etwa 500 km weiter westlich, hier in Marmaris fast nur die nach Nichts schmeckenden mittelamerikanischen Importfruechte bekommen), kurz danach kommt ein Abschnitt mit grossen Plantagen mit Zitrusfrüchten und auch Granatäpfeln.

An vielen Stellen in dieser Region kann man an kleinen Ständen frisch gepressten Granatapfelsaft erhalten, der sehr erfrischend schmeckt.

Bei unserem ersten Glas dieses Saftes in der Türkei erinnerten wir uns an unser erstes Glas Granatapfsaft überhaupt. Es war vor fast genau 30 Jahren in Bagdad. In einem schmalen Gang zwischen zwei Haeusern stand ein kleines Wägelchen mit Presse, einigen Gläsern und vielen Früchten. Es war abends, die Szene war nur mässig durch eine nahe Strassenlaterne beleuchtet, viel Saft der ausgedrückten Früchte lief am Wagen hinunter auf den Boden und dort drängelten sich in einer etwa 3 cm starken Schicht hunderte- vielleicht auch tausend – Kakerlaken! Es waren zwar nicht unsere ersten Kakerlaken, die wir sahen, aber der Massenauflauf war schon beeindruckend.

Nun, hier in der Türkei ist alles viel sauberer. Zu den besonderen Naturschönheiten gehörten noch eine Tropfsteinhöhle (viele Treppen rauf und runter – leichter Muskelkater) und der ewig brennende der Berg, die Heimat der Chimaere, einem Ungeheuer aus der griechischen Mythologie. Einer der Helden der Mythologie – Bellerophon – hat sie mit Hilfe des geflügelten Pferdes Pegasus töten können. Es war also nicht gefährlich, als wir uns bei stockdunkler Nacht (die Mondsichel war ganz schmal und leicht von Wolken verschleiert) auf den steilen Weg nach oben machten, für den wir ca. 25 Min. benötigten, um die ersten Feuer am Berghang zu erreichen. Aus dem Hang tritt bereits seit der Antike Erdgas aus, das sich irgendwann entzündet hat und nun so vor sich hin brennt. Man glaubt in einem riesigen Pfadfinderlager mit vielen Lagerfeuern zu sein.

Auf dem Weg hinunter hätte ich mir Pegasus gewünscht, der mich vielleicht hätte hinunterschweben lassen, aber nichts da, ich musste alles mit meinen etwas vom Muskelkater (Tropfsteinhöhle) geschädigten Waden selbst bewältigen.

Die Ruinenstätten in der Türkei, zumindest die, die wir an der Südküste besuchten, haben einen besonderen Charme. Wenn man Glück hat, sind die Zufahrten erschlossen, in Seleukia konnte man dies vom letzten Teil der Zufahrt nicht sagen, in kaum einem Fall sind aber die Ruinen erschlossen. Auf Trampelpfaden durch niedrigere mediterrane Vegetation bahnt man sich seinen Weg, oder man krakselt auf steilem unwegsamem Gelände von einer Ruine zur anderen, spärlich beschildert und sehr mühsam. Zu diesen besonderen Exemplaren gehörte vor allem Thermessos, unglaublich schön in einem Hochtal des Taurus gelegen, aber nach zwei Stunden anstrengender Kletterei hatten wir bedauerlicher Weise nicht das ganze Gelände erkunden können. Die Zeit lief uns davon. Andere Siedlungen, die in der Ebene lagen, liessen sich leichter erobern. In Phaselis z. B, einem kleinen Ort am Meer mit drei Häfen entdeckten wir dann im lichten Waldboden eine grosse Fläche voller blühender, kleiner, wilder Alpenveilchen. Das fiel uns ohnehin auf, hier beginnt jetzt die Regenzeit und überall am Wegesrand spriessen die Blätter der Zwiebelblumen, aber nur wenige Sorten blühten schon.

Am letzten Tag unserer Reise, an dem wir noch bei halbwegs trockenem Wetter einige der berühmten lykischen Felsengräber anschauten, begann es dann, sich einzuregnen und wir fuhren direkt nach „Hause“.

Seit knapp einer Woche sind wir wieder hier, haben die Überholungsarbeiten am Boot wieder aufgenommen und warten darauf, dass unser Motorchen wieder kommt. Wir konnten bei einem Besuch in der Werkstatt einen unserer alten Kolben besichtigen und wissen nun warum ein Zylinder nicht mehr arbeitete: Drei Kolbenringe sind gebrochen und an einer Stelle ist auch noch ein kleines Stück von dem Kolben heraus gebrochen.

Im Augenblick gibt es nichts weiteres Neues.

At the hight of the financial crisis, 11 friends and I set off to Turkey, where we would sail around the coast line for 10 days on a traditional Gulet (which is a typical turkish sailing boat made out of wood). This would have been the perfect holiday if the air line we flew with, XL airways, had not gone bust as we were out there, forcing us to buy a new ticket home to London….For this reason, we unfortunately always think back to this trip as a slightly negative one, but we only have to look at the pictures to realise that it was a simply fabulous and beautiful week.

Our journey started in Bodrum, which to my surprise was nicer than I thought it would be. Of course, it is a 100% tourist destination, but compared to many other cities of the sort, I thought it was set in a beautiful place and had a good vibe about it. We got introduced to our boat and the crew, which included captain Mustafa. The boat was small but big enough for us 12, and we dumped our bags on it straight away and got our swim suits on- it was baking hot!

We had a deal which included all food and alcoholic drinks and of course the cruise. On top of that, the crew cooked, cleaned and looked after us, and all this for only around £300. For the whole week that was a very good deal, especially for the unlimited drinks rule- we certainly made the most out of that!

The first night we enjoyed a few beers on the deck of our beautiful little boat as the sun went down. Our first dinner was impressive, and the meals continued to be great through out the trip; always consisting of fresh fish, meat, pasta and vegetables- delicious! We got pretty drunk and headed towards the party side of Bodrum where we danced the night away at Halikarnas (http://www.halikarnas.com.tr/) and watched the sexy belly dancers perform. To top it off, we went for a swim in the middle of the night before heading back to the boat where we all past out when it was almost breakfast time.

The days to come were all very similar to each other, although I mean that in the most positive way. We would wake up for a heavy breakfast consisting of eggs, watermelon, yoghurt and toast. After that we would sunbathe, swim, have lunch, sunbathe, swim, have dinner and party like mad on the boat. The only difference was that every day we got taken by mustafa to a new bay, and we were impressed by how different each bay was from one another; some were very leafy, some rocky, some surrounded by very dry flat land. I was slightly disappointed by the snorkling in Turkey, as it was no where near as good as for example the Red Sea. Also, we did have fun as we were 12 friends, but it was mainly about relaxing and very repetitive, which is something to bare in mind.

The second city we visited was Marmaris, another tourist destination, but slightly less classy than Bodrum. The loyal red english tourists were seen everywhere and almost all pubs were proud to show the next football match and served sausages & chips. We spent a day and a night there, enjoying being on land for once and not being on a moving boat. We enjoyed a few sheeshas and cold beers at one of the many cafes on the port, and then had a great dinner with the best fresh seafood we had all week. Captain Mustafa then drove us to a deserted bar by the port where we were staying, and as always, we made the most out of it  and danced the night away.

That night, my friend Dave felt a sharp pain in his stomach. After a few hours we realised it was not normal and decided to take him to a hospital. It turned out it was a good decision, as he needed to have his appendicitis operated, so we went all the way back to Marmaris and put him safely in a hospital where he got operated the next day. Just to say that you may not think that Turkey would be the ideal place for that to happen, but they were really helpful and it went very well.

As mentioned in the beginning, the day before we were to fly home we realised we were stranded. It is an ideal place to be stranded, but we were all keen to leave the boat and the salt water by then, so we all purchased new tickets back. Would that not have been the case, the holiday would have been excellent with the whole package!

mit Schrecken habe ich festgestellt, dass es mehr als 4 Wochen her ist, dass wir uns mit einem kurzen Bericht bei Euch gemeldet haben. Aber es ist auch nicht wirklich viel passiert.

Wie geplant, hat uns Dimitris unsere Sachen gebracht. Wir haben dann drei sehr schöne Abende mit ihm verbracht, während wir tags über damit beschäftigt waren, alles wieder in unserem Schiff zu verstauen. Als wir nach einigen Tagen auslaufen wollten, wurde Wolfgang von Montezumas Rache erwischt. Nach 4 Tagen gingen wir auf Dimitris Rat hin in die Ambulanz eines Krankenhauses, wo Antibiotika verschrieben wurden. Die halfen sehr schnell und wir konnten nach zwei weiteren Tagen auslaufen.

In schönen Tagestouren segelten wir bis Mykonos und dann erneut in einem Overnighttoern nach Leros, wo wir auf auf Mario mit der Amaltea warten wollten. Die Ankunft von Mario verzögerte sich etwas, so dass wir dort eine ganze Woche zubrachten, davon drei Tage mit der Amaltea.

Gestern sind wir dann 23 Meilen gesegelt und sind in Turgut Reis in der Türkei (an der Spitze der Halbinsel, an deren Südküste Bodrum liegt) angekommen. Hier empfing uns eine gepflegte und teure Marina. Beim Einlaufen hörte der Bugstrahl auf zu arbeiten. Wolfgang hat das Vorschiff ausgeräumt und baut weitere Sachen aus, um die Sache in Ordnung zu bringen. Da der Propeller noch am Getriebe ist, sucht er innen am Motor nach der Ursache.

Heute haben wir ausserdem in die Türkei einklariert (auf dem Transitlog – einer Art Segelerlaubnis – sind die Stempel von vier Behörden einzuholen, deren Reihenfolge genau vorgeschrieben ist).

Morgen wollen wir nach Marmaris weitersegeln, um uns nach einem guten Automechaniker umzusehen. Schon seit langem wollte ein Zylinder von Gottlieb (unserem Motor) nicht mehr richtig seine Arbeit tun, seit einiger Zeit hatte Wolfgang dann den Eindruck, dass er gar nichts mehr tat. Wolfgang hat dann die Druckleitung dieses Zylinders an die Rückölleitung angeschlossen und nun hinken wir – wenn motort werden muss – auf drei Zylindern durch die Gegend. Wir hoffen, in der Türkei Handwerker zu finden, die sich auf alte Mercedesmotoren verstehen. Von deutschen Seglern, die schon lange in diesen Gewässern segeln, ist uns besonders ein Mechaniker in Marmaris empfohlen worden. Wir wuenschen uns, dass sie Recht haben und uns dort schnell geholfen wird.

Danach müssen wir uns um einen Winterliegeplatz kümmern. In der Türkei, wo wir gerne bleiben würden, sollen die meisten guten Plätze ausgebucht sein und es sollen z.Teil lange Wartelisten bestehen. Mal sehen, wo wir bleiben können. Sobald das geklärt ist, können wir auch unsere Flüge buchen.

Ihr seht, es ist wirklich nichts berichtenswertes in den letzten vier Wochen geschehen. Vielleicht noch ein Wort zum Wetter: wir haben seit September angenehmes Sommerwetter (so um die 25 bis 27 Grad), abends kühlt es so ab, dass man eine leichte Jacke anziehen muss. Gelegentlich hat es geregnet, es war aber auch dann immer angenehm warm.

Diyorlar ki; balıkçı denizden geliyor, kız kumsalda onu bekliyor, bulundugu yeri ışıkla işaret ediyor delikanlıya…
Ve kral kızı ile delikanlı, gün ağarana kadar aşk oyunları yapıyorlar birbirlerine… Kral bir gece askerlerine kızını yakalamalarını ve kumsalda ışıkla balıkçıya işaret  göndermelerini buyuruyor.
Delikanlı ışığı görünce atlıyor kayığına ve kürek çekiyor bir manga askerin üzerine doğru…
Kız askerlerin elinden kurtuluyor ve koşmaya başlıyor sevdiğini kurtarabilmek için ama koyun taaa öbür ucuna yetişmesi imkansız…
Ama sevda bu; kural falan dinlemez, atıyor kendini sulara…
İşte o anda bir mucize gerçeklesiyor! Kızın adım attığı her yer kumsala dönüşürken peşinden koşan askerler bastıkça denize gömülüyor onca ağırlıkla…. Kız kayığa kadar koşabiliyor…
Ancak bir okçu tam o anda delikanlıyı hedefleyip salıyor okunu…
Heyhat! Kız ile delikanlı birbirlerine sarılmışlardır bile ve ok gelip kızla buluşuyor…
Derler ki; o kumlar, kızın kanı denize karışınca kırmızıya boyanmış…Delikanlı ise aldığı gibi gidiyor kızı, sonrasını ne gören var ne duyan!…

Doğa harikası olan Dalyan‘ın harika bir köşesi de İztuzu Plajı. Akdeniz, milyonlarca yıl uğraşarak Dalyan Deltası’nın önüne 7 kilometrelik kumdan bir set oluşturmuş. 85 milyon yıldır Caretta-Caretta ve Celonia Mydas türü dev deniz kaplumbağaları bu kumsalı üreme alanı olarak kullanmışlar.

Binlerce sene önce Kleopatra ve Antonius Sezar’ın bu adada büyük bir aşk yaşadığına inanılır. Efsaneye göre, kendisiyle evlenmeyi kabul eden Kleopatra’ya bu coşkusunun hediyesini vermek isteyen Mısır Kralı Antonius, yaklaşık 3000 sene kadar önce balayını geçirmek üzere Kleopatra’yı götüreceği adaya Mısır’dan 60 büyük gemiyle çapları 1 milimetreden daha küçük ve her tanesi aynı büyüklükte olan kumları getirtti. Yalnızca Dünya’nın iki yerinde varolduğu bilinen bu özel kumun diğer özellikleri de ateşte yanıyor, sodalı suda kendiliğinden çoğalıyor ve büyüteç altında incelendiğinde hareket ediyor olmasıdır. Karbonatlı çamurun bir çekirdek etrafında birikmesiyle oluşan kumların denize kattığı eşsiz güzellikteki renk de, Ada’nın görülmeye değer olan diğer özelliklerinden biridir. Kumların bir benzerinin de Kızıldeniz’de olduğu bilinmektedir.

Palamutbükü’nde tatil yapmak için pek çok nedeniniz vardır. Huzur, sessizlik, sakin ve kusursuz bir tatil bunların en başında gelmektedir.

Deniz Mağarası:
Kentin yakın çevresinde, denizden motorlarla ulaşılan küçük bir deniz mağarası vardır. Marmaris Deniz Mağarası adıyla anılan bu mağara, henüz turizm amaçlı planlanmış değildir.

Bayırköy:
Marmaris’in güneybatısındaki Bayırköy son yıllarda jiplerle yapılan safari turlarının gözde durak noktalarından biri. Yerliler, köy meydanındaki dev çınar ağacının etrafında bir tur atmanın, insan ömrünü uzattığına inanıyorlar. Bayırlılar bunu çınarın gövdesine de yazıp asmışlar.

Cennet (Nymara) Adası:
Marmaris’in tam karşısındadır. Yarımada, teknelerin günübirlik uğrak yerlerinden biridir. Manzarası çok güzel olan adanın iskelesinde çardak lokantaları ve kaffeler vardır.

Çetibeli:
Akyaka Köyü-Marmaris yolunun 8. kilometresinde, Çamlı Köyü’nün doğusunda, yol üstündedir. Çetibeli’nde, tıpkı Akyaka’da olduğu gibi çayların üzerindeki iskelelere kurulmuş olan lokantalarda alabalık ve yörenin spesyalitesi olan sac kavurma yenebilir. Köylülerin işlettiği bu mekanlarda sabahları çam balıyla kahvaltı yapmak da mümkün.

Günnücek Mesiresi:
Yalancı Boğaz civarında, günlük ağaçlan arasında bir mesiredir. Piknik alanı, orman idaresi tarafından düzenlenmiş, gerekli altyapı hizmetleri getirilmiştir.

Marmaris ve Datça (Reşadiye) Yarımadası Kıyıları:
Bu kıyılarda, eşsiz güzellikte birçok doğal liman ve demirleme yeri vardır.

 Efsanelere göre Köyceğiz, gölün alanı üzerinde bulunan bir ovada kurulmuş. Bilinmeyen bir zamanda ovayı sular basmış. Felaketin seyrine gelenler gölün doğu kısmında kalan birkaç evi ve insanı görünce: “Bütün şehir batmış, sadece kıyıda bir Köyceğiz kalmış.” demişler. Bugün hala gölün altında bir batık şehir olduğuna inanılır.

Tabelalar, çok iyi olmasa da, bunlara göre antik kent içinde kendi turunuzu yapabilirsiniz. Gişeden (08:00’den günbatımına kadar açık) girer girmez sağınızda iyi durumda bir Hellenistik tiyatro, solunuzda yatların demirlediği güney limanı var. Teraslar halindeki antik kentin kalıntılarına tımanırken, aniden önünüze çıkacak çukurlara dikkat. 1987 yılından beri kazıların devam ettiği ören yerinde, iki tiyatro, agora, Apollon Tapınağı ve Sunağı, güneş saati, Demeter Kutsal Alanı ve odeon kalıntılarını görmek mümkün. Geriye pek fazla bir şey kalmamış olsa da, biraz hayalgücüyle, muhteşem bir manzaraya hakim, yuvarlak planlı tapınağın ortasındaki aşk ve güzellik tanrıçası Afrodit’in heykelinin, uzun bir deniz yolculuğunun ardından buraya varanların gözündeki ihtişamını tahmin etmeniz zor olmayacak. Hatta bu noktadan günbatımını seyrettikten sonra, Afrodit’in böylesine ünlenmiş olmasına daha da hak vereceksiniz.

 

 

Antik çağda Kap Krio olarak bilinen Deveboynu Burnu’nda yer alan Knidos, muhteşem konumuyla bölgenin en güzel antik kentlerinden biri. Datça’ya 40 kilometre mesafedeki Knidos’a vardığınızda, yarımadanın en uç noktasındasınız demektir. Bir yanınız Ege Denizi, bir yanınız Akdeniz’dir. Antik çağın en ünlü ve zengin kentlerinden biri olan Knidos, sadece Akdeniz’deki gemilerin rotası üzerinde stratejik bir konuma sahip olmakla kalmayıp aynı zamanda, bilim, mimarlık ve sanatta ileri, kozmopolit bir kentti. Knidos’ta, ünlü matematikçi, astronom, fizikçi, mimar ve yasa koyucu Eudoksos, doktor Euryphon, ünlü ressam Polygnotos ve dünyanın yedi harikasından biri sayılan İskenderiye Feneri’nin mimarı Sostratos yaşadı. Hatta kent altın çağında, Kos’taki önemli tıp merkeziyle rekabet edebilecek bir tıp okuluna da sahipti.

 

Koy, neredeyse iki ucundan da kapalı olduğu için deniz dalgasız, sakin ve sessiz…

Haritadaki en uç nokta olan Knidos öyle bir doğal güzellik ki anlatmak imkansız… Datçadan bir tabelayla ayrılan yol 35 km civarı ama son 7 km si tam bir patika olduğu için tek araba ancak geçebiliyor. Yol çok virajlı ama manzarası muhteşem… Roma döneminden kalan bir antik kentin yanında denize girilebiliyor. Denizi akvaryum gibi ve balıklarla beraber yüzebiliyorsunuz. Sadece son model yatların arasında yüzerken dikkatli olmak lazım… Eski uygarlıklar nerede manzara güzel, nerede deniz durgunsa oralara yerleşmişler ama doğaya zarar vermedikleri için 3 bin yıl sonra bizde oraları gezebiliyoruz. Acaba bizden 3 bin yıl sonra durum ne olacak…

Gökova, “bu ne güzellik” denen yerlerden biri bence de… Doğanın bütün renklerini tek bir karede görebildiğiniz ender yerlerden biri… Yapılaşma ve doğa tahribatı buraya henüz uğramadığı için yıpranma ve kirlenme de olmamış…
