D’autres sites se mettent à cette tendance dont ce nouveau magazine de mode en ligne, Mode Actually, qui dispose d’un onglet “Fashion Simulateur”. Kézako me direz-vous? Ce simulateur vous permet de composer des tenues ultra fashion et glamour avant de finaliser votre achat en boutique. In just over a decade Consuelo Castiglioni’s label Marni has achieved cult fashion status. The Swiss-born, Milan-based designer showed her first collection for the label in 1994. Its eclectic accessories and cool quirky spirit have made Marni one of Milan’s hottest tickets and earned Castiglioni a loyal following of fashion insiders. Marni is another designer I adore for her quirky yet modern design. Yes at times some of her collection can be really outlandish but you can certainly find some pieces that can withstand the test of time.

Short-sleeved dress made of impalpable cotton voile. The recurring theme of the fabric ribbon gathering in unexpected ways many items of this collection appears also in this lined pocketed dress to adjust the width of the petal-shaped neckline. This detail is matched to the ruffled elastic going almost completely round the item to play with the volumes, yet without giving up the comfort of the fit.

This geometric top is surprisingly very easy to wear both for formal and casual attire. Love how the colors brighten up an otherwise plain outfit.

Another reason why I love Marni is how comfortable and wearable some of her designs are. This dress is great for those days when you just wanna slip into something super comfy and yet stylist.

Sim, tinha um certo preconceito com essa coisa de meia curta com sapato, que voltou bombando nas passarelas do verão 2010. Sei lá, achava tão Dancing Days… Cheguei até a tirar onda com a meia frouxinha do desfile da Marni. Olha aí só alguns exemplos dos desfiles de verão.

Mas comecei a simpatizar com a ideia depois de ver este look de Leighton Meester: o vestido de fundo preto, estampa colorida e babados + cinto + colete ficou super harmônico com a sandália e meias pretas. Acho que talvez por a meia não fazer contraste com a sandália e dar uma leitura visual de uma botinha… Não sei, sei que amei!!! (E olha que a Leighton andou usando coisas horrendas por estes dias, clica aqui!)

Katsui graduated from Central Saint Martins College after studying at Parsons The New School for Design. Yagi graduated from Doshisha University and Central Saint Martins College.
The brand, mintdesigns was launched in 2001. They have been in Tokyo Collection since ‘03 S/S. The awards they won include the Moet et Chandon New Designer’s Award in 2005. In 2007, mintdesigns garage store opened in Shibuya PARCO. They presented their collection in the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT THIS PLAY! show. In 2008, they presented the opening show at São Paulo Fashion Week for ‘09 S/S. Both designers currently hold positions as guest professors at the Faculty of Art and Design at Osaka Seikei University. In 2009 they presented their collection at the Milano Salone TOKYO FIBER ‘09.Mint Designs turned out a dainty crop of dresses featuring details such as shimmery stripes, textured fabric and quirky graphics. One frock featured a darling print of tiny Charlie Chaplins, while another showcased circular cutouts along the sides.

If I could spend $272 on a clutch, it would probably spend it on this one by Antik Batik.	But I can’t.  So I’m taking a second look at this “Sparkle-licious” eye candy from etsy.com.  This piece by Angee and Vincci is only $90 but still includes special touches like a big, crystal brooch and a bright pop of pink liner on the inside!
This regal Marni piece is made of wool, metal, and Swarovski crystals.  Of course, you have to be royalty to afford a $1,242 piece of bling.	This beauty is called Tangled Royalty, with light pink crystals and delicate charms in one big, sexy bunch!

And here’s one more, just for the heck of it.

This pair of Opulant Edwardian Rose earrings is by mythunderstood on Etsy.  They’re only $27, and they are absolutely elegant. These would  immediately turn your LBD into a breathtaking, feminine ensemble.

After Louboutin, it is now Marni to collaborated with French gourmet house LaDurée. The designer, Consuelo Castiglioni, has created limited edition boxes with polka dots and floral details. The customized boxes will carry a set of eight to eighteen chocolate macaroons, decorated in gold leaves. Available December 1st, 2009.

My Sugarland

I was invited to join London Fashion Network, and be one of their panelists discussing just this earlier this week. We all assembled at Soho House, in a cosy private room, and over the course of the next couple of hours a diverse and challenging discussion took place, with lively debate from the audience.

An interesting mix of retail professionals had been assembled. My fellow panelists included, David the design and strategy guru behind many familiar sports brands including Addidas and Fred Perry. Torquil founder of Sybarite the architectural design practice behind the Marni store concepts and now Alberta Feretti, Thierry Bayle, a management consultant specialising in small independent businesses, and the lovely Zoe from My Sugarland in Islington – oh and of course me!

I this diverse company much was debated and discussed; branding, environment, design, product etc. With so much more available on-line why does anyone need to enter a shop? Well, the overwhelming response to that is that it is about the overall experience – which, however convenient, cannot be experienced on-line.

Ultimately though it seems that a good retail experience is down to the people one encounters, the relationship one establishes with the sales people and the service one receives.

When it’s good there’s nothing quite like it. No wonder they call it retail therapy

De plus, je crois que je suis leur cible marketing parfaite: en septembre, ils ont la délicieuse idée de faire des macarons Louboutins (datte et figue: un peu écoeurant mais tellement joli en noir et fushia!).

A partir du 1er décembre, Ladurée remet ça…avec Marni; et on peut dire qu’ils ont mis les petits plats dans les grands!

La boîte dorée couverte de pois et de fleurs, codes chers à la maison italienne, a été dessinée par la créatrice elle-même Consuelo Castiglioni!

Elle renferme des macarons chocolats recouverts d’une fine feuille d’or! Si c’est pas la classe, ça!

Je crois que ce sera mon petit cadeau d’anniv’ perso, n’en déplaise à mon nutritionniste!

Couture and high end designer labels are all suffering due to the recession, and even the wealthy have stopped buying.

But affordable luxury brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch and Marni are expanding and their profits are increasing.

Tommy Hilfiger just opened a 22,000-square-foot store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, a move that, in this economy, some might call insane.

Sales of the Tommy Hilfiger Group rose 21 percent, to $1.6 billion, for the financial year that ended March 31, according to Fred Ghering, Hilfiger’s chief executive officer.

Brands like Tommy Hilfiger, D&G from Dolce & Gabbana, or Tory Burch, all selling below the luxury designer category, are growing now because they expanded or reorganized, repositioned collections or introduced new lucrative lines before the first signs of the recession.
