O site Omelete divulgou uma notícia interessante sobre o filme do Lanterna Verde.

O diretor do longa, Martin Campbell deu uma declarção breve sobre os efeitos visuais que o filme terá: “É desafiador”, disse. “Sinceramente, o processo, que envolve cerca de 1.300 cenas com efeitos visuais, é absurdo. Parte disso será para criar os efeitos do anel de energia do Lanterna. Ele é energizado por uma bateria no planeta Oa, que emprega a força de vontade de todas as criaturas do universo. Com esse anel ele gera construtos. Em uma briga ele pode criar um punho gigante ou um avião a jato”, simplificou para quem desconhece o personagem.

A história contará a origem de como Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) ganhou seu anel e tornou-se parte da tropa do título. A Warner Bros. ainda não divulgou oficialmente o local das filmagens, que já eram para terem começado. A data de lançameno permanece inalterada para junho de 2011.

E apenas como esclarecimento, o ator Jack Earle Haley desmentiu sobre o fato de poder viver o vilão Sinestro no filme. Entretanto, ele disse o mesmo antes de ser oficializado como o novo Freddy Krueger. Vale a pena continuarmos desconfiando.

There can be a fascinating contrast in Hollywood between a star’s professional work and his or her behaviour outside the realm of filmmaking. An actor or director can build a body of respected work only to turn around and do something most would revile. Look at the recent attention driven yet again to Roman Polanski. Is he a genius or a rapist? An artist or a monster? Or both?

Another interesting example is Mel Gibson, whose actions over the last few years have been more bewildering than anything else. He is guilty of asserting anti-Semitic comments while trying to distance himself from them at the same time. He revealed his deep religious faith and directed the most financially successful film about Christ ever produced before getting involved in a series of drunken episodes that culminated in his arrest. He made “Apocalypto”, drawing fire that pegged him as culturally xenophobic and sloppy in his research along with praise directed toward the film’s originality and scope. In the midst of all of this, he seemed to have given up acting altogether. Until now.

Gibson was a go-to action star in the 80’s and 90’s, appearing in high octane films such as the “Mad Max” films, “Payback”, “Ransom” and the “Lethal Weapon” series. In “Edge of Darkness”, he appears to be heading back to his bread and butter. Directed by “Casino Royale” helmer Martin Campbell and co-written by one of the screenwriters of “The Departed”, the project looks tailor made for Gibson’s return to form. Whether or not he deserves one is up for debate.

As for the film, it’s looking to evoke a badass Bostonian attitude crossed with a “Death Wish” scenario, scattered with cliches – or homages – of the guy with nothing left to lose. Warner Bros. knows exactly what people will think of the trailer’s ironic final bit of dialogue. Gibson is back, with a firm belief in the dark side of divine retribution.

Martin Campbell spoke with Empire Online about the new Green Lantern (Ryan Reynolds) film he is directing. It will be shooting in New Orleans, but it sounds as if fans of the comic can breath easy as it sounds as if there will be plenty of outer space scenes.

“He’s the only superhero to my knowledge who regularly goes to another planet,” said Campbell. “Superman and Batman were essentially locked into a particular city. The Lantern isn’t so Earthbound.”

It also sounds as if he has a good handle on the powers of the Green Lanterns.

“It’s [energized] by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe,” said the director. “From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant first. Or a fighter plane.”

Mind you this means there will be an awful lot of effects in the film.

“It’s daunting,” Campbell admitted of the film’s epic scale. “Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it’s mind-blowing, quite honestly.”

I really hope we get to see loads of the Green Lantern Corp and lots of cool space battles.

Edge of Darkness stars Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts, Bojana Novakovic, Frank Grillo, and Gbenga Akinnagbe. It’s directed by Martin Campbell and will be released on January 29, 2010.

Stinger’s Thoughts: The trailer looks good, and I am looking forward to this movie in part because Mel Gibson is my second favorite actor and it’s been a long time since he’s starred in a movie. I know it’s a remake, but I’ve never seen the original, and don’t care too. I’m interested in this one solely because of Mr. Gibson, although the plot does sound intriguing itself.

The Times-Picayune is reporting that Warner Bros. is set to begin shooting the Green Lantern in New Orleans. The Martin Campbell directed feature recently pulled out of Australia due to the rising cost of the Australian dollar. The movie had been mooted to be moving to Canada but Warner Bros. seems to have taken a liking to New Orleans having recently filmed Jonah Hex there.

An official at Second Line Studios in New Orleans has confirmed that the producers have signed a non-refundable contract to rent stage space to the production. The production is set to occupy Second Line’s sound stages in December with construction crews beginning to build the sets, while principal photography would begin in March and to continue through to July or August.

In other Green Lantern related stories Ain’t It Cool News is reporting an interesting rumour that Jackie Earle Haley (who played Rorschach in Watchmen and is taking over the role of Freddy Krueger in the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street) is the first choice to play Green Lantern villain Sinestro.

Sinestro, for those unfamiliar with the comic, is the former mentor of Hal Jordan who grows tired with the bureaucracy of the Green Lantern Corps and sets about trying to make the universe adhere to his will, thus becoming the arch-nemesis of the entire Green Lantern Corps. He is easily the most important bad-guy in the Green Lantern series and was voted 15th overall in IGN’s top 100 villains.

The site is also reporting that Superman may make a cameo appearance in the movie too!

Green Lantern, with Ryan Reynolds as the titular ring-toting hero, is scheduled to be released on June 17th 2011.

More superhero movie rumours with word again from Ain’t It Cool News that Valkyrie actor Matthias Schweighöfer told the German edition of GQ magazine that he’s in the running for a role in Thor and that Jude Law and Robert De Niro have also joined the cast. The 3 would be set to play the Warriors Three in director Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of the Marvel comic-book character.

Alternatively, Movieline recently interviewed Mamma Mia star Dominic Cooper for Lone Scherfig’s An Education and found that he was preparing to audition for a role in Thor. The interviewer asked Cooper whether he’d been approached for the role of Fandral the Dashing, one of the Warriors Three.

The Warriors Three are a group of fictional characters who served as supporting cast members in Thor and are made up of the Asgardians Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg.

In any instance Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson and Stellan Skarsgard are already cast in the comic-book adaptation scheduled for a release on May 20th 2011.

Premièrement, et c’est une nouvelle qu’elle est bonne, Jackie Earle Haley, le nouveau Freddy dans le remake à venir, affrontera Ryan Reynolds dans l’adaptation par Martin Campbell de The Green Lantern, puisqu’il sera Sinestro, un villain d’origine extra-terrestre (c’est pour ça la face violette), sorte d’ange déchu, puisque viré du Corps des Green Lantern – qui est en gros une organisation intergalactique chargée de protéger l’univers – après quelques décisions inconsidérées qui seront indubitablement racontées dans le film.

C’est plutôt malin de confier à un tel acteur le rôle de Sinestro, qui est physiquement surhumain, mais psychologiquement plus complexe que disons, Destro dans GI Joe, même si leurs noms se ressemblent. Le film, d’heure en heure, avec Martin Campbell – réalisateur de deux des meilleurs James Bond à ce jour, GoldenEye et Casino Royale -, Reynolds et maintenant Haley, s’avère bien meilleur qu’il n’en a l’air. Et je ne parle pas de ce ‘fan-art’ qui n’est en aucun cas une photo promo :

Ryan Reynolds, on le sait maintenant depuis un moment, interprètera Hal Jordan, le Green Lantern, un terrien assigné à la protection du secteur 2814, une partie de l’univers (où se trouve la Terre), armé pour cela d’un anneau qui lui donne un pouvoir inconsidérable, puisqu’il n’a que l’imagination et la volonté de son possesseur comme limite à sa puissance et à ses possibilités. L’anneau est donné à Hal Jordan par Abin Sur, un extraterrestre, ancien Green Lantern, avant qu’il ne meure.

Deuxièmement, il a été paru dans l’édition allemande de GQ, qu’au casting du Thor de Kenneth Branagh viennent de s’ajouter et Jude Law et Robert de Niro. On peut s’en étonner, mais aussi prendre cette “nouvelle” avec des pincettes. En même temps, de Niro a prouvé qu’il en est à un stade de sa carrière où plus rien n’a d’importance. Il joue dans Machete, qui s’annonce quand même comme une série B foutraque et violente, alors pourquoi pas dans un film de super-héros réalisé par un acteur-réalisateur sérieux et réputé.

Okay calm down. Before I go any further let me just say that this is a rumour from Harry Knowles over at AICN. However, he states it is from a pretty reliable source from someone working on the film. We know Ryan Reynolds is playing Hal Jordan in the Martin Campbell directed Green Lantern film, but until now there hasn’t really been much movement on who will be playing the other roles.

This story came from someone working on the film. That part is solid, what isn’t – and won’t be till it all gets finalized is the fact that JACKIE EARLE HALEY is leading the list to play SINESTRO!!! That’s just about perfect in my book! Something that makes me absolutely giddy as all hell!

Oh… and according to my source, it’s looking like SUPERMAN will be making a cameo, but that all depends upon how… other DC things go, but it is an indicator that DC is paying attention and taking note of what MARVEL is doing, which has excited all of us so much! But remember, you heard it all here first!

Jackie Earle Haley as Sinestro. For those not in the know Sinestro is the big bad of Hal Jordan’s tales – he used to be a Green Lantern who trained and was a friend of Hal’s but it turned out he was a bit of a nasty chap. Haley was great as Rorschach and is Freddy Krueger in the remake of Elm Street.

In my opinion he has the right face for Sinestro, but he is a little short for the purple faced fella.

As for Superman cameoing (no word if that would be Brandon Routh) well I really hope they have some kind of cameo from him or a few other DC characters just to tie it all in as that is what we comic fans love and geek out on.

Edge of Darkness es una cinta dirigida por Martin Campbell, quien hiciera Goldeneye y Casino Royale, 2 de las películas más importantes de James Bond.

El estreno en EU será en enero del 2010, en México quién sabe para cuándo.

Est-ce une raison pour ne pas aller voir ce film ? Par ailleurs réalisé par Martin Campbell, à qui l’on doit Casino Royale, ça a l’air pas mal dans le genre je-vais-me-venger-de-ceux-qui-ont-tué/enlevé-ma-(insérer membre de la famille)-en-leur-pétant-la-gueule (Taken) ou en-les-tuant-un-par-un (Death Sentence). Et puis il y a Ray Winstone et Danny Huston, qui ont un don pour jouer les pires salopards. The Edge Of Darkness raconte l’histoire d’un ex-flic qui voit sa fille se faire tuer sous ses y… Attendez, c’était pas un NINJA là ?!

Mais je pose très sérieusement la question. Dans quelle mesure les conneries dites ou faites par un personnage public, et un artiste, entachent son œuvre, et son talent.

Mel Gibson est un enfoiré de connard antisémite, mais c’est aussi un putain d’acteur, Road Warrior, L’Arme Fatale, Payback et Braveheart sont là pour en attester.
Roman Polanski est un pédophile et un violeur, mais je suis susceptible d’aimer son prochain film (si il ne pourrit pas en prison) comme j’ai aimé Le Pianiste, Rosemary’s Baby ou Chinatown.
Tom Cruise est peut-être un taré de scientologue, et un homosexuel refoulé, mais merde, il était énorme dans Mission Impossible et Minority Report, et même immense dans Magnolia
