Wow, sorry for going on a posting vacation… I fail.

On the bright side, the Steelers pulled an amazing victory in the Superbowl, 27-23 (AZ Cardinals)… with the 100-yd run and epic touchdown in the last quarter… wow. The only football game I’ve actually ever really gotten into, I think.

Now to buy a Terrible Towel… (Yes, I’m a Pittsburgh native.)

A pre-post for draping, which is a huge trend on runways and on the streets (as is everything I report on, it seems…) Plus, it’s super-comfy and cute 

The trick with draping is to layer it… if you’re doing one really drapey, loose piece, try to pair it with more fitted underlayers and bottoms. You could go for the all-out-drape look, but you have to work to pull that one off.

Its been almost a month now, since Paris Fashion Week came to an end. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to devote to my Fashion Capital with work and staring the website. Since its taken a bit longer for me to post my favorites, I should give you’ll a bit more. More clothes, more trends, more shoes and bags and definitely my overall favorite collection from Spring ‘09. Here is Part I. Apprécier!

Ich möchte hier relativ bilderreich drei Labels vorstellen, die wir bei Modepilot teils schon mal als Labels to watch hatten und die mich auf den Pariser Modeschauen erneut überzeugten. 

Los geht’s mit Commuun:

Das japanische Päärchen Kaito Hori and Iku Furudate, einst ANDAM Gewinner und inzwischen zum zweiten Mal dabei bei den Pariser Schauen, blieben ihrem luftigem Stil treu und überzeugten mich durch die neuen Schnitte und Faltenwürfe. Bis auf wenige Ausnahmen war die ganze Kollektion weiß. Wie immer stehen die natürlichen Textilien im Fokus, denn die Natur und die Gesellschaft sind Commuun wichtig (mehr dazu auch hier bei der Vorstellung der Winterkollektion).

Zweitens: Martin Grant. 

Dass der zu beobachten ist, hat auch die deutsche Vogue mitgekriegt. Chefredakteurin Christiane Arp bemühte sich als einzige der Voguies zur Show. Sie musste die Fahrt nicht bereuen, denn Martin Grant zeigte eine wunderbare Schau ganz in seinem strengen, puristischen Stil und lang-fließenden Silhouetten und einem guten Gemisch aus Uni- und Musterstoffen.

Und zum Abschluss Nummer 3: Rue de Mail

Martine Sitbons neue Linie habe ich das erste Mal live gesehen. Früher hatte ich viele Sitbons-Schauen geguckt und so war ich gespannt, wie dieser Neustart unter neuem Namen dann wohl live aussieht. Ich finde, dass Martine Sitbon weniger verspielt ist als bei ihrer früheren Linie. Die Kollektion Rue de Mail, benannt nach Straße, in der sich in Paris das Atelier der Firma befindet, ist einerseits streng und klassisch und durchbricht das gleichzeitig durch besondere Details, die mit Liebe und Aufwand gearbeitet sind.

Unser Blog hat für heute genug Mut zur Hässlichkeit bewiesen, deswegen will ich schnell was Schönes hinter herschießen. Denn bei Durchsicht meiner Winter-Schauenbilder ist mir aufgefallen, dass Omahyra wieder läuft. Wie schön! Angeblich muss sie. Aus Geldgründen. Das habe ich von einer Fotografin erfahren, die sagte, dass Omahyras Freund mit ihrem Geld durchgebrannt sei. Ob es stimmt, ist mir wurscht. Hauptsache, sie ist wieder da.

Das Skandalmodel war 2003 und 2004 von keinem Laufsteg wegzudenken. Dabei ist Omahyra schon von ihrer Physik so ganz anders als all’ die anderen weich gespülten Blondinnen, die man sonst so auf dem Laufsteg sieht. Sie kommt aus der Dominikanischen Republik, raucht, trinkt, kleidet sich bevorzugt in Männerklamotten, trägt das Haar immer kurz, teilweise ausgeschoren und hat den Körper voller Tattoos. Was bei manchen ausgeschnittenen Haute-Couture-Roben die Zuschauer zu einem erschreckten “Ooohhh” hinreißen ließ. Ihr Gesicht hat keine klassischen Züge, die Lippen zu groß, der Blick zu wild und doch passt sie selbst in Rüschenblusen. Oder Rüschenkorsetts.

Ihr androgynes Aussehen verschaffte ihr ein paar Filmrollen, in After The Sunset und in dem furchtbaren Superhero-Schinken X-Men. Ok, das vergessen wir mal wieder und schauen uns an, wie die heute 23jährige früher aussah:

So my fellow fashionistas, our semi-annual homage to fashion has begun. And as always, I will be bringing an insider’s view to some of the top shows at New York’s Fashion Week thanks to my work with the famed production company, the Ground Crew.

This year’s kick-off event was the eco-friendly fashion showcase, Earth Pledge Future Fashion Show which was held on Thursday night at New York’s Gotham Hall (just steps away from Macy’s).  The evening’s designers included Behnaz Sarapfour, Bottega Veneta, Boudicca, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Derek Lam, Diane Von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Doo.Ri, Doro Olowu, Giambattista Valli, Givenchy, Isabel Toledo, Jil Sander, Marc Jacobs, Marni, Martin Grant, Martin Margiela, Michael Kors, Moschino, Narciso Rodriguez, Ralph Lauren, Rodarte, Rogan, Stella McCartney, Thakoon, Threeasfour, Versace, and Yves Saint Laurent who united to celebrate FutureFashion™ by creating garments that are made of sustainable materials like sasawashi, piña, bamboo, organic cotton and wool, corn-based fibers, recycled fibers or fabrics and biopolymers. And no show would be complete without a gift bag which reinforced the idea of going green with handbag utilizing Pure & Natural(TM)’s biodegradable bar-soap packaging that is actually embedded with seeds and when planted, will sprout baby’s breath. The bag also featured a cherry and almond oil body wash, grapefruit hand wash, a bamboo bar board, and an issue of Organic Spa magazine. Check out the contents below.

I had the pleasure of dressing three of the sweetest models I have come across in a long time. My first model was Bruna, who graced the runway in a red evening gown by Martin Grant (see below). Next came Julie who wore a beautiful Donna Karan creation (second image). But the showstopper was Vlada in an amazing (amazingly heavy as well as beautiful) cream-colored evening gown made of silk and hemp by Versace (the sketch is amazing).

Today hearld the official start of Fashion Week Fall 2008. Starting things off slow, I headed to Cipriani’s (across from Grand Central) for one of my favorite shows…Rag & Bone. This season’s design inspiration was Blade Runner meets WWII– a military chic. A twist on fashion inspired by the 1940s, this season’s collections featured cashmere, wool, skinny pants and jackets. The stylings were very sexy and sophisticated with very fall/winter colors such as grey, navy blue, black and white. Below are the images of the models I dressed for the show. Well, seems like neon is back, and i thought i’d hate it, but i don’t.  Here’s some gorgeous examples of neon done right. 

There’s also some tribal and floral stuff happening, which didn’t really impress me much, but these are lovely: 

Bohemian is still here.  I like the 70’s workplace vibe that Donna Karan and Roberto Cavalli are doing.  But then again, they were there, so they would know exactly how to rock it. 

Barely there fabrics and layers is a big trend… filmy, breezy and light.
