Heya guys and girls and welcome to my top telly blog entry. If you are a regular visitor then you’ll know that I haven’t posted a blog entry (that is not a news update) for quite a while now and if you follow me on twitter then you’ll now that I have been writing some new material for my blog so I am back on track. I am going to tell y’all a brief description of my fave television shows.

Everybody Hates Chris

Although it is titled ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ and my name just so happens to be CHRIS and it ended in the fall of this year (2009), I am still a big fan of this show. This is perhaps one of the most famous sitcoms and was the first sitcom to feature an all black cast. I am a really big fan and am happy that they started to re -air old episodes. If they didn’t then kids of the 21st century wouldn’t of seen where popular comedy actress Raven Symone began her work as a child actress which brings me nicely onto my next show which is entitled…

Do you see the resemblance? OK, what was I saying? Oh yes, ‘That’s So Raven’ is a great show although I do not like the concept of Raven being a physic. The show follows the story of Raven Baxter being a physic teen who foresees things before they happen and it’s her duty to stop them. She needs the help of her friends. The way she attempts to stop things from happening are hilarious! When the show ended on November 10, 2007, I was devastated like many fans were. But when I found out that a similar show was being made for Nickelodeon (rival channel for Disney channel home of ‘That’s So Raven’) that did not involve physics, i was ecstatic! True Jackson, VP.

True Jackson has always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer and is overjoyed when she is discovered selling sandwiches in a fashion magazine lobby. They are so impressed with her that they promote her to the job title of vice president of the teen section of the magazine.

I love this show as well as many others including: iCarly, Drake and Josh, Waterloo Road, Outnumbered, Suite Life, Spongebob, 90210, Friends and Smallville.

Kat Dennings

Spilling the news is the depicter of Thor’s first love Jane Foster, Natalie Portman, when expressing her excitement to work with Kat Dennings in the upcoming action fantasy movie.

Following several actors who have been previously confirmed to join “Thor”, Kat Dennings also has a part in the film. The news was first spilled by the film’s star Natalie Portman when she was interviewed by MTV Splash Page. “Well I’m really excited. Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she’s a good friend and an amazing actress, so I’m looking forward to that,” the depicter of Thor’s first love Jane Foster said.

Dennings’ inclusion in the cast ensemble for the film was later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. However, there has been no word on what character that will be played by the 23-year-old beauty as the site claimed Marvel Studio keeps a closed lid on her role.

Dennings is perhaps best known for her role as Norah Silverberg in “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”, which aided her to receive nomination as Breakthrough Performance Female at 2009 MTV Movie Awards. She previously also appeared in 2006 film “Big Momma’s House 2″ starring Martin Lawrence. She can next be seen in superhero film “Defendor”, which is slated for a 2009 release.

Tadanobu Asano, Ray Stevenson and Stuart Townsend

Prior to Kat Dennings, “Queen of the Damned” star Stuart Townsend, “King Arthur” star Ray Stevenson, and Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano have been tapped to be The Warriors Three, which is made up of Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg. Joining the trio is “The Office” actor Idris Elba, who is set to portray Heimdell, the Guardian of Asgard in the upcoming adventure film.

Adapted from Marvel comics, “Thor” is an epic adventure that spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. The story centers on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior, who is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans after his reckless actions reignite an ancient war. He later learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. Paramount Pictures eyes a May 20, 2011 release date for the film.

RiskMetrics, a leading campaigner on executive pay, has set its sights on cleaning up the resources sector.

RiskMetrics analyst Martin Lawrence told BusinessDaily yesterday the corporate governance group was looking closely at the remuneration practices of mining and energy juniors in Australia’s top 300 publicly-listed companies.

As many as 15 small resources companies in the S&P/ASX 300 had executive pay practices that were of concern, he said.

“We’re talking about junior resources companies that, as the commodities boom has gone on, have started to populate the bottom end of the top 300 companies,” Mr Lawrence said.

Dude I love men, dont get me wrong, every part of them, the way they smell, the way they are able to take me there with a single touch, how they demand your attention when they walk into a room…its whats under the surface that I absolutely cannot stand, the lies, the cheating, more lying more cheating, not to mention the emotional unavailability, I am not saying that all men are this way just a lot of the ones I am so lucky to meet and halfway fall in love with ugh!!! This is enough to make me switch sides…okay maybe not lol.

Getting over someone is hard work, and I need the best advice out there on how to do so, help me out on this one please, your comments will do my mental stability well…

This post is not intended to join the long and ever growing list of critics of Tyler Perry.  However, it is time to weigh in on the issue of the character he has made a part of the sub-culture. While, I have never seen a Madea movie, I continue to support and thoroughly enjoy his movies like Why Did I Get Married and The Family That Preys.  I could never get past long held beliefs that there was no need for us as a people to continue along the path that others have carved for us.

Nearly 40 years ago, the great Flip Wilson, gave the world Geraldine, a character for which he dressed up as a loud mouth, tell it like it is, black woman. Since that time, we have seen Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes, Martin Lawrence and Jamie Foxx all play the role of women.  Now enters Madea. 

It is important to point out that while much of the criticism of Tyler Perry appears to be motivated by jealousy and even some envy. There must be room in our community for lawful and constructive debate surrounding topics that affect the entire community, without the vitriol and self-loathing that seems to permeate much of our discussions.

The question we ask is what of the power of images, especially in a community already lacking in good male role models? Charles Barkley once famously remarked, “I am not a role model,” all the while modeling his Nike shoes.  The lack of strong black males has our community in crisis!  We appear on Maury Povich denying our parental responsibilities and look to be more interested in the latest styles, rather than that, which will last. The nightly news depicts us as gun toting, self-shooting, dog killing, ear biting, white women killing, and now mass murdering.

Young black men continue to wonder about absent fathers and try to help with overworked mothers.  Anger has replaced hope; faith that was never nurtured is all but gone. In addition, for recreation, we go to the movies and see our talented tenth, not using the awesome power at their disposal to lift, but to keep us laughing at our men not being men.  Playing the role that is the only one that has been kept up in our lives, the strong black woman.

Some have said that it’s only a movie.  Recently I had a discussion with another brother about this very topic.  He was of the mind that it’s harmless fun.  My question to him is, as a father of a young black male, what if you came home and your son was dressed in his mother’s clothes, just for fun, that is? Of course, he would not like that.

The fact that Tyler Perry, at this stage in his career, is now able to finance his own projects puts more of a challenge on him to bring out not the old stereotypical images of us as a people, but he must lift his end of this burden by charting a new course, as we are headed for higher ground.

Even though they may not be able to state it themselves, Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, and yes President Obama are all black men, whose stories are only indicative of the many stories, which exist about successful, young and old black men.  Rapper Jadakiss asked the question,

“Why did Denzel have to be crooked before he took it?”  

Why do we have to be the cross dressing loud mouth? Why in 2009, when our best and brightest have the opportunities we have so longed for, do we seem to be part of the conspiracy to continue in the destruction of young black males? The dictionary defines the word image as-mental representation, idea or concept.  Is Geraldine, Madea, Sheneneh, or Wanda the image we, as black people, want as our representation across the globe?  Is that the idea?

And what about the church going fan base that makes up the large percentage of Madea supporters? What are their ideas, and concepts of black men, and how does this fit into the larger issue of men not being in church?  Tyler Perry said he continues the Madea series for them. Well it’s time he demand more of them and they of themselves. Madea got him this fan base, and if they are true fans, not of Madea, but her creator, then they will appreciate the growth. As a solution to these problems, we would recommend that Spike Lee, John Singleton, Tyler Perry and other black filmmakers, sit to discuss projects that will uplift, not just us as a people, but the human family.  Let’s stop talking at each other and talk to one another.

To those who would say, it’s their job, my simple reply is from the old black church and the warnings of our grandparents, “Don’t gain the world and lose your soul.”

Raven-Symoné håller på bli vuxen och vill inget hellre än att komma in på ett bra college, gärna en bit från den överbeskyddande pappan (Martin Lawrence). Det som var tänkt som en kul tripp med kompisarna för att hitta en bra skola förvandlas till en påfrestande strapats då farsan insisterar på att följa med.

Jag blir bara arg då jag ser så här tillgjorda och smetiga filmer som helt saknar själ och hjärta. Det känns gapigt, påklistrat och rejält fånigt. Får verkligen inte Lawrence bättre erbjudanden än detta nu för tiden eller betalar Disney så pass bra? Horribelt o-rolig komedi!

Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence are making the parody of the movie trailer that they made for the BET Awards. They had such a strong reaction that the duo decided to turn the concept into a real film. Foxx will write the script, which he and Martin will produce through Foxx’s Foxxhole and Lawrence’s Runteldat production banners.

In the comedy, Sheneneh and Wanda are modern-day independent women trying to make it on their own, one bank robbery at a time.  Foxx and Lawrence have long tried to find a vehicle to work together, and Screen Gems’ Clint Culpepper is fast tracking the production.

Foxx, who last starred in “Law Abiding Citizen,” will next be seen in the romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day.” Lawrence will next be seen in the Screen Gems comedy “Death at a Funeral.”

There’s not much in the way of news, but here’s what’s on offer over the past couple of days.

Aronofsky finds a way to convince straight blokes to see a ballet flick

If you want proof that Darren Aronofsky is talented, you’ve got it.  By casting the jiblet-tingling trio of Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Winona Ryder in his new thriller ‘Black Swan’ he’s managed to convince me to see a movie about ballet.  That’s undeniable talent right there.  Now he just needs a quick re-write to include a gratuitous three-way scene and we’re set.

He’s black?  Check.  He’s a comedian?  Check.  He hasn’t had a hit in a while?  Check.  Get that man into a dress asap!

What is it with black comedians and cross dressing?  Jaime Foxx and Martin Lawrence are teaming up to subject the world to “Sheneneh and Wanda”, an alleged comedy based on some sort of BET Awards skit they did a few years ago.  The story centers around two “modern independant women” who rob banks.  Ugh.  Hasn’t anyone learnt from “Big Momma’s House” or “White Chicks”?

It’s official.  I will never see this movie.

As if one wasn’t bad enough, BOTH Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman have been cast in “The Danish Girl”, the new movie from Thomas Alfredson, director of “Let the Right One In”.  It’s about the real life relationship between the first post-op transsexual and it’s wife.  Kidman will play the tranny and Paltrow will play it’s wife.  While the story doesn’t particularly interest me, I like LTROI a lot and was interested in Alfredson’s next flick.  Not anymore.

Okay so they are turning the sketch into a full blow movie. Some say that really it should have been done years ago, I can agree with that but either way I’m glad they are finally getting together for some funny. Will it be a success? I think so!! Good luck fellas it will be a Sony Screen Gems comedy called Sheneneh and Wanda.

I know we all remember the parody video of Sheneneh and Wanda that was played during this year’s BET Awards. Well it seems the video received such a good response that Martin Lawrence and Jamie Foxx want to make this a real project. Both actors’ production companies will work on the movie.I honestly would probably go see this and crack up the entire time.

Variety is reporting that Screen Gems is going to make a movie called Sheneneh and Wanda, which will have Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence reprise their most iconic gender bending roles.

Sheneneh was Martin’s annoying ghetto neighbor and Wanda (from In Living Color) and the dog faced Wanda who was looking love and to rock their world.

Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence put together a spoof trailer for a made up movie called Skank Robbers which starred both Sheneneh and Wanda. This was used as a skit for when Jamie Foxx hosted the 2009 BET Awards. The reaction of this trailer got a lot of laughs which got these two comedians to pursue making it into a real film.

Actor Martin Lawrence took his daughters Lyana and Ameria to the This Is It Movie premiere in LA, Tuesday. What cute daughters!

Finally these two all-stars meet up but in a jail.

It’s 1932; Ray (Eddie Murphy) is a small-time hustler, and Claude Banks (Martin Lawrence) is a bank teller with a taste for gambling. When Ray picks Claude’s pocket to pay off a debt, the two men are framed and land in the same jail for 60 years; trouble is, they can’t stand each other! Stuck in a work camp, they hope to be proved innocent someday — if they don’t kill each other in the meantime.

I first heard about this film and was interested in seeing it cause it had my two favorite African-American comedians finally together in a movie. I was just expecting on-going laughs from these great actors, and although I got that the story of this film was a lot more than I was even thinking about.

However, this movie has an inherent sadness to it. These two men have their dreams crushed and are trapped in prison their entire lives. And yet they always remain hopeful about getting out and starting their lives. It creates a weird balance in the movie between the comic and the tragic.

Life started to lose me cause I think the way the whole film acted around it’s setting didn’t seem like the place for comedic effect. The Louisiana prison they are sentenced to, the future there isn’t so bright and many moments are very serious but aren’t taken very seriously, and that’s what kind of threw me off this film. I think this story could’ve really worked if it was used in a 1999 prison instead a 1930’s one.

I liked the comedy though even without the serious parts. I felt like the comedy does get a little over-the-top, but overall succeeds in making you laugh. I enjoyed how the jokes weren’t really centered towards racism and crime jokes and they stood up between mature and sometimes immature.

Lawrence and Murphy really do shine in this film however. I hear that they didn’t really like their Director Ted Demme, but he must have done something to them cause they give out great little performances here. This is very different from a lot of their other work, because it has more of a serious side to it, but they do take the ball and run with this film every scene they get. There are also little supporting characters in this film that are good that feature Bernie Mac (R.I.P), Anthony Anderson, and if you don’t blink you can catch Ned Beatty.

Consensus: Life is set-up in a very strange way, but features great performances from Lawrence and Murphy, and a great life lesson on love and friendship.
