Viktor & Rolf’s – created a girl with pillows strapped to her head, makes her look like Victorian maids who had risen suddenly from a deep slumber.

Hussein Chalayan – scattered his catwalk with pieces of furniture. His models unzipped chair covers and dressed themselves in them, then stepped into the furniture, which was cleverly transformed into fashion.

Giles is known for his showmanship he created a giant, black, feathered egg, great for hiding a bloated tummy and bad hair days, not great for driving or manoeuvring cocktails to mouth.

Martin Margiela – created a cape out of hair, besides a nude bodystocking and a fencing mask, what do you wear it with? We’re stumped.

Victor & Rolf collection – the idea was to individually light up the details on every model, the audience was almost too worried about the models burning themselves on the hot bulbs to notice the collection, which was beautiful.

Maison Martin Margiela a lancé aujourd’hui sa collection ultra luxe artisanale sur Yoox.com.

Une collection qui se compose de: Une robe faite de vieux vinyle, une veste qui ressemble étrangement au guirlande de Noël, une jacket composée uniquement à base d’élastique, ainsi qu’une autre crée à partir de sandale et de ballerine.

Not only has Martin Margiela left his own ‘maison’, the mysterious Belgian designer is now selling his archive pieces on Yoox.com. Starting today. Unconventional choices are his signature, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise to us.

The ‘Artisanal collection‘ that will feature on Yoox.com is one of his most arty collections, and -among others- consists of the record dress, the elastic bands jacket and the famous wigs jacket. The last one took Margiela’s Parisian atelier 51 hours to produce.

So tommorrow is D-day for everyone who ever wanted to purchase an exclusive, one-of-a-kind, Margiela archive piece, but be sure your credit card limit doesn’t exceed. Most of the items cost an average €5000,-, but if you manage to get your hand on one of the pieces, you can always resell it to a museum in the future. (Note: we did not just give you this advice…;-))

The items will be available on the site until they’re sold out, and interesting detail, the proceeds will go to a Dutch charity organization: The Rosa Spier Foundation. It is a non-profit organization for retired artists and academics.

I have had this blazer since 1992 and I love it…It’s the only article of clothing I have ever kept..except for a Margiela butcher wrap skirt I acquired around the same time…Even my wedding dress is safely tucked away in storage…Not my Margiela it has remained standing proudly in my closet for almost 20 years and it still looks fucking awesome! It’s like a homeowner instead of a renter… everything else eventually gets traded up for the better version. Not my Margiela. There is no better version. There really hasn’t been any period since ‘92 where I couldn’t wear this and be totally” careless,” “cool” and “of the moment ” (okay, except maybe when I worked the Mayan theater on Salsa nights and wore shiny, glittery, satiny dresses..LOL!!) Although, I don’t wear the Margiela blazer now..I still need it in my closet ..I don’t know why..The mystery behind the designer? The craftsmanship? All the fond Memories of how my peers viewed me my when I rocked the shit out of this? I don’ think I’ll ever know…but i know I’ll never ever part with it.

Yves St. Laurent received the macabre treatment when he dressed actress/muse Catherine Deneuve for the 1983 horror/suspense film The Hunger, also starring David Bowie and Susan Sarandon. Deneuve’s wardrobe showed the darkest reaches of St. Laurent’s range — acclimating to the hardness of the 80’s, notably designers Thierry Mugler and Claude Montana, he had French glamor and sexual subversion easing his way.

Perhaps it was this macabre treatment that inspired Martin Margiela’s second reiteration of the squared shoulder in his fall 2007 collection (if in fact it was him). The severity and darkness of the mood is vampire worthy, and certainly those graphic shoulders don’t shy away from Deneuve’s YSL wardrobe, complete with his signature shoulder. But the real give away is the soundtrack of Bauhaus’ Bela Lugosi’s Dead as it creeps along in the opening scene of The Hunger and on Margiela’s catwalk, connecting the two not so disparate visions of the night.

Michael Stipe has designed a range of 199 cassette style jewelry for Martin Margiela, Though most of them are not practical, I actually like some of them, and wouldn’t mind seeing if i can get my hands on them!

There was a reason Michael Stipe couldn’t be spotted at the Paris shows sans his Margiela mono-shield (including after hours at Le Baron). En octobre 2008, la Maison Martin Margiela a fêté ses 20 ans d’existence. A cette occasion, l’Antwerp Fashion Museum présente une exposition spéciale, Maison Martin Margiela (20)-The Exhibition. L’exposition a été ouverte jusqu’en février 2009 et après elle a été transférée à Munich  Haus der Kunst jusqu’en juin.

Martin Margiela a terminé ses études à l’Antwerp Academy, dans la section mode, en 1988. Il a travaillé comme assistant de Jean Paul Gaultier. Avec Jenny Meirens, il a fondé la Maison Martin Margiela et le premier défilé a eu lieu la même année en octobre. Dès le début, Martin Margiela a voulu laisser la mode parler par elle-même. Toutes les interviews sont données sous le nom de la Maison mais il n’est jamais apparu dans des photos ou aux défilés, son identité restant encore inconnue. La Maison Martin Margiela est connue pour son approche déconstructiviste et pour l’usage des matériaux (tissus) de seconde main.

Maison Martin Margiela 20 n’est pas une rétrospective classique mais elle approche les thèmes Margiela, en incluant des images de défilés, créations, croquis des vitrines et des magasins, ainsi que les règles de communication si atypiques de la Maison Margiela. Exclusivement pour cette exposition, Martin Margiela vient avec des créations en édition limitée qui ont été en vente pendant la durée de l’exposition, à la réception du musée, dans un espace spécialement dédié. Pour les amateurs, on peut voir une création de la Maison Martin Margiela aussi à Saint Etienne au Musée d’Art et Industrie – une veste faite seulement en bandes élastiques.

Katsui graduated from Central Saint Martins College after studying at Parsons The New School for Design. Yagi graduated from Doshisha University and Central Saint Martins College.
The brand, mintdesigns was launched in 2001. They have been in Tokyo Collection since ‘03 S/S. The awards they won include the Moet et Chandon New Designer’s Award in 2005. In 2007, mintdesigns garage store opened in Shibuya PARCO. They presented their collection in the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT THIS PLAY! show. In 2008, they presented the opening show at São Paulo Fashion Week for ‘09 S/S. Both designers currently hold positions as guest professors at the Faculty of Art and Design at Osaka Seikei University. In 2009 they presented their collection at the Milano Salone TOKYO FIBER ‘09.Mint Designs turned out a dainty crop of dresses featuring details such as shimmery stripes, textured fabric and quirky graphics. One frock featured a darling print of tiny Charlie Chaplins, while another showcased circular cutouts along the sides.

.. I also just bought this Martin Margiela book. I can’t wait for it to arrive! It’s gonna drop in through my mail slot, it’s due any day now.

Quoting Jay-Z’s lyrics from “Run This Town”, “I’m in, Maison Martin Margiela, on the table screaming fuck the other side, they jealous.”  You know the rest, LOL.  French luxury brand Maison Martin Margiela is light-years ahead of most luxury labels in terms of sneakers.  If you have the means, I highly suggest getting a pair.  They are not only great aesthetically, but comfort and function are on-point.

What about a refine clearance sale today? You’re impressed, but you don’t remind past collections of those designer brands. Take it easy shopaholic! You can have a quick eye on the look books of brands listed in color (above), writing the name in the menu “Pour rechercher…” (in the right side bar on this blog). Great coloured picture, isn’t it? Pedder Red has a a new collaboration with Wyman Wong, a multi-tasking celeb (of sorts?) from Hong Kong.

He created a tantalising five-piece collection inspired by the tailoring and work of fashion designers such as Martin Margiela, Christophe Decarin, and Yves Saint Laurent, and you’ll see why in the pictures.

My boyfriend was there with me in Pedder Red over the weekend to give his opinion and help me decide – but to no avail. When I saw the pictures, Yves was mine. But when I tried Martin on, I was torn.

A close friend was planning to visit Hong Kong recently and I was asked to find out if there was any cool limited edition things she buy. She knew I was the person for the job since, and I’m really quoting her here – “She (me la!) can never find what she is suppose to find online, but somehow she will always come back with a whole load of kooky somewhat related treasures…”

I was able to find limited edition Coke Zero cans for sale (promotion with the apparel brand Hoods), limited edition LV, Vivienne Westwood, Hong Kong Disneyland merchandise etc…

but nothing prepared us for the Maison Martin Margiela Mahjong Set….*squeal* It pure white, looked amazing and had this coolness about it that I just couldn’t resist. Unfortunately, it is also out of my budget…. you will have to spend USD 1,161.00 / HKD 8,999.00 on Maison Martin Margiela Fall/Winter 2009 Collection to receive one set…

After falling in love with the gorgeous mahjong set, I kinda felt curious about who Martin Margiela is, I mean, anyone who could dream up such a beautiful piece must have designed a whole array of cooler things right? It turns out that he has maintained a very low profile throughout his 20+ years in the creative industry, he doesn’t walk out from backstage after his fashion show and doesn’t entertain requests for interviews. I also found some pictures of his stores and they looked ultra cool….

Somehow my constant I love I love I love! cosmic signal got sent out to the universe and I ended up with plane tickets to Hong Kong this coming November! ( Thank you whoever you are up there far far away, I love u too!) I plan to make a mini detour and visit the store, hopefully I’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the mahjong set before all the cash rich “tai tai’s” get their perfectly manicured hands on them…

Modedesignern Martin Margielas mask i Dazed & Confused, oktober 2009.

På uppdrag av det brittiska konst- och modemagasinet Dazed & Confused skapar 13 modedesigner varsin mask på tema monster. Samarbetet “Franken-fashion” är inspirerat av Frankenstein och den brittiska modedesignern Alexander McQueens höstkollektion för 2009 om skräpmode. Martin Margiela, Rodarte, Riccardo Tisci (Givenchy) och Gareth Pugh är några av designerna som medverkar. Att den belgiske modedesignern Margiela skapar en mask känns lite som metakonst då han alltid behållit sin identitet hemlig i media och modesammanhang. Finns det ett dolt budskap bakom masken, månntro?
