We won’t lie, we’ve been big fans of Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen for a long, long time. And when they launched their line, Elizabeth and James, we fell in love with them.

Elizabeth and James embraces the young, urban girl’s style with finesse and soft edginess that makes their pieces cool, but sophisticated. Trendy, but worthwhile. Having always been known for their style (sometimes admired, sometimes appalling), Mary Kate & Ashley have a distinct eye that makes them perfect for the world of fashion. Mixing classics that every gal should have hanging in their closet with vintage and bohemian inspirations, their collections for Elizabeth and James (named after two of their siblings) and The Row (their more upscale line (see it here) designed to bring the items necessary for every female into complete perfection), these two young ladies hit fashion with just the right creativity and class.

Guess what, darlings? None other than the fabulous Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen have started a new Juniors line at JcPenney called, “Olsenboye,” which introduces an assortment of layers, blazers, and long-sleeved prints. However, according to this duo’s Good Morning America appearance this fall, their line is not going to officially launch until February. While their clothes usually sell between $20 and $50, there is a mammoth sale amongst us, which makes me super happy. Haha.

Please don’t forget to see their incredibly adorable commercial above. It just gives me the “warm and fuzzies” all over! Haha.

Have you ever watched a television show you loved when you were younger years later?  Today I was watching Full House and the show was ridiculous.  It is so cheesy and stupid, but I loved that show back when I was younger.  What was I thinking?

• Was it the age of innocence and I didn’t know better?
• Was it actually a good show back then, but now writing and technology is better?
• Did I actually watch the show back then, or was it just background noise?

How did I not realize that this show was kind of bad? Sure, it has sweet story lines that can teach kids lessons about love and family, but Full House is nothing like real life.  Did children learn real life lessons from watching this show?  Probably not, but it was nice, clean entertainment back when I was a child.  Today, many of the shows on television are not as innocent.  Sure, they may have better story lines, but shows like Full House did teach children about loving and respecting your family and friends.  That’s something that many kids today do not know about.

But now, I just sit back and laugh at the fact that I actually liked this show back in the day.

1. .BEANIE KNIT HATS.

There is nothing worse than facing the cold with wet hair. But, it’s 8 AM. You’re hair is so dirty it’s almost clean again. Enter stage left: the beanie. Cozy and adorable, this cold weather accessory has concealed some of my laziest beauty days.

2. .STURDY BOOTS.

But now it’s 8:30. An obligatory coffee detour has cut your schedule a little too close for comfort. Not the time for some stylish booties or blister-inducing flats. Give me a no-frills pair of Fryes  (or its Target lookalikes) and I promise I will haul my caffeinated self to my destination on time.

3. .PRINTED SCARVES.

Ever step out the door in late winter only realize that your life-stifling boredom has turned your wardrobe black? Monchrome has its time and place and the bleak winter landscape is not it. Energize your outfit and maybe even your mood with some pops of texture or color. The printed scarf is the easiest path to choose here. The draping options are innumerable and the effect is immediate. Plus, cold necks are the worst.

4. .TOGGLE COATS.

One good coat is just not enough. Every day you can pick out a winter outfit and what do you top it with…your jacket. I have me a puffer, a belted swingcoat, a trench–all good to have in stock. But, only with the addition of a toggle jacket will I finally be content with my outerwear rotation. I’ll keep scanning the local thrift racks, so let the ladies below convince you to do the same.

5. .LAYERING.

This one goes without saying. The more items, the less freezyness. And if anything says bohemian winter, its carelessly haphazard layering.

6. .FAIR ISLE SWEATERS.

The Scandinavian sweater is a warm, cabin-cute trend that has caught my eye. It’s another piece I’m planning to obtain via trusty Goodwill. Diane does it the best, but note the fearlessness that is Rihanna–singlehandedly killing two trends with one stone (fair isle and poncho). Brave woman.

Year after year, editors tell us to pick a standout coat that will make us feel fabulous even though we’re essentially wearing the same thing day after day. But — just like in your vacation photos in which you’re wearing the same jacket in each one — is it really best to wear something that so obviously screams “I wore this yesterday! And the day before that!”

The argument is that wearing a coat in a flattering color/design/texture/silhouette (even if it’s conspicuous) is better than wearing black or brown every day, as long as it meshes with your personal style.

I’m on the fence witht this one, probably because I don’t have a coat that’s quite my signature just yet. And while Mary-Kate and I would love to steal Brandon Flowers’ epaulet-adorned jacket-of-the-moment right off his back (or purple tiger hoodie for that matter), I do have a Facebook photo portfolio to worry about.

VERDICT:
5/10 Fitting Titles

Well, at least the soundtrack kicks ass.

The Wackness is about a teenager in 1994 New York City that spends his Summer dealing dope to raise money for college, hanging out with his aging shrink and paying for his sessions in dimebags, coping with his parents’ mounting money problems, and trying to get his shrink’s stepdaughter to go steady with him.

Cool idea for the most part, but unfortunately it doesn’t really work out as planned.

It’s the debut or sophomore effort by writer/director Jonathan Levine (couldn’t figure it out from his IMDB page) and therein lies the double-edged sword of this movie. As a director, Levine is pretty solid. He’s got a cool visual style that really brings out the feel of New York in the early ’90s back in a time when everyone was listening to B.I.G. and A Tribe Called Quest instead of Lady GaGa and Taylor Swift, and back before Giuliani started cleaning up the joint. Part of it is that I dig movies that serve as a kind of NYC period piece, but even so, it’s a pretty cool movie to just watch and take in. New York is sweet.

On the other hand, the script kinda sucks. You ever go to a movie and find yourself feeling like the only person in the theater not on crazy pills as half the room bursts out in laughter while you just sit there with a “What’s so funny?” look on your face? That’s how I felt during The Wackness and I don’t think it’s due to a crap sense of humor on my part either. The gags and the dialogue just try so hard to be funny and witty that it ends up feeling forced instead of natural. Man, I hate that feeling.

The other thing is that the plot is freakin’ all over the place. It seems like there are a dozen different relationships going on amongst the characters and we’re all supposed to have some invested interested in all of them. This ends up taking away from the main story lines that actually are interesting – the relationship between the teen and shrink and the relationship between the teen and his shrink’s stepdaughter. But alas, both of these end in a whimper, too.

Point is, script could have used more work, could have been more focused.

But the acting is pretty on-point. The almighty Ben Kingsley plays the shrink, Dr. Squires, and, needless to say, he’s good. I’ve already gone on my Ben Kingsley rant in my Sexy Beast review, not gonna belabor the point any further.

Our favorite drug-dealing teen, Luke Shapiro, is played here by Josh Peck (of Nickelodeon fame, for all you kiddies out there). The only other thing I’ve seen him in is this wild independent movie that came out in ‘04 called Mean Creek (worth checking out) where he was great, and he’s pretty good here, too. He actually has a couple lines that are funny and he makes Shapiro into a pretty believable protagonist. Keep an eye out for Peck, kid could go places.

Method Man’s also in it, and who doesn’t like Method Man? And for some reason Mary-Kate Olsen is in it this as a dirty hippie named Union that somehow finds herself hooking up with Ben Kingsley in a phone booth after a night of binge drinking. That was weird.

But in the end, I wish I could say I liked this movie more than I did. Seemed like it would be right up my alley and I was pretty bummed out when it ended up being one of those movies I just kinda forgot about the minute I walked out of the theater. It’s got the potential to be better than it is, but it gets too caught up in its own muddled script to set itself apart. It looks pretty, the soundtrack is awesome, and the acting is good for the most part, but there’s just too much going on for The Wackness to come together.

Go watch Sexy Beast, then watch Mean Creek, then go listen to Ready to Die by Biggie instead. Five hours well spent if you ask me.

Just like the title suggests, rain boots are a must have. Whether you live in CA where it rains about 20 times a year or Seattle where it rains every other day, you gotta get yourself a pair of rain boots. Why? Well, rainboots aren’t JUST for the rain. Mary Kate Olsen wears them when she goes to Starbusks. And Rachel Bilson owns a pair for running errands. I like to wear mine when I’m gardening after a rainy day, when I go to the snow (paired with some thick socks) or just because.

If you don’t want to splurge on the celeb-must-have Wellington Hunter boots (though Wellie’s are so cute), then you should check out the awesome selection at Target for …. $24.99! This is perfect for those of you who live in Cali and may not be venturing out in the rain anytime soon.

Problem with shrinks (generalizing) is that they speak too old, grown up, professional, boring. Lighten up a bit, use slang, speak to us like you’re actually trying to help, not like you’re just doing this to get through the hour.
