I had a great time with my sister consultants at our unit’s annual Thanksgiving party tonight. I wore a very lovely black evening gown with off-black pantyhose and matching color pumps.

At work on Tuesday I had to pick up a “fleet” customer from her house and bring her in to the office to rent a car. ( A fleet customer is someone who is renting to replace their company car, while it’s in the shop) Well, this customer is a sales director for Mary Kay, so naturally the entire ride back, and while I wrote up her ticket in the office she was talking to me about the benefits of being an independent rep for Mary Kay.

I have to say I’ve always been curious about direct selling company’s like Avon and Mary Kay, but also very wary of them. I like the income potential, but at the same time I’ve always viewed it as “hawking” something to people you don’t know. An opinion  I would probably say comes from my sister’s failed attempts at things like this.

While usually my thoughts about opportunities like this come and go quite quickly, I have been thinking about this  since the woman drove on the lot on Tuesday.

I have made a list of Pro’s and Con’s

Pro: It will provide me with the extra cash I always complain I don’t have.

Con: It will take $100 of my scarce cash to start. And if I don’t make any money, I have lost $100.

Pro: It’s all on my schedule, and I can do as little or as much as I want.

Con: I have to fit it in among my full-time job, and grad school

Pro: It will help me meet people

Con: I will feel really uncomfortable at first telling people I am selling Mary Kay.

Those are just a few, I really could go on.

Ultimately I have to make a decision, and I may make one today, because the lady said she was going to call me this morning at work. I reached out to my friend and former co-worker that now works only part-time while she runs her Slumber Parties by Kerry business ( check out her site here.) She seems happier then ever.

So, I think I may need to just take the bull by the horns on this one.

And on a side note, I wish I wasn’t working on Black Friday or else I would be here….

On Monday evening, I went to Abuelos to to support my friend who is training to be a Mary Kay consultant.  They have classes in a private room every Monday, and this particular Monday, the trainees were asked to invite friends to practice the skin care product sales pitch on.  Friends who would not judge.

I have to admit that my skin felt tres fabulous afterwards.  I wanted me some Mary Kay.  For a moment.

During the color portion of the evening we were given a card with a palette of eye shadows, blush and lipstick.  We were instructed to put it on in order to help us win a prize.  My pallet was “red”.

Now I’m not one to wear red on my lips, but there was a prize at stake, and I wanted it.  As I applied the very bright reddish lip color, I started to panic. “This is not my color,” I heard myself say out loud.

One of the The Directors of Mary Kay, totally disagreed (along with all of the trainees, of course) that the red contrasted beautifully with my hair color and complexion. She insisted that I just wasn’t used to it.  So I accepted this as truth and went home, where my husband commented that I looked like the Joker as soon as I entered the door.  He may have also (jokingly, I promise) mentioned that I could pass for a cheap hooker.

Not to be deterred by his comments, this morning I was feeling a little sassy and decided to give red lips another shot.

And then I felt very self conscious. Especially in my pencil skirt and heels in the parking lot of the Staples, with a 69-pound pit bull on the end of my leash, as I struggled not to turn my ankle because he forgot all of his manners at home. You see Hogan lost his manhood today.  Poor guy.  He had no clue the fate that awaited him when he happily scampered up the steps of the SPCA mobile chopping unit this morning.

Anyway, I was wishing that my red lips weren’t so bold as that little pot bellied pig tried with all of his (very substantial) might to release himself from the confines of his harness to go and play.  Doesn’t he realize that I bragged and defended his good manners on my blog last week?  In any case, he left his mom feeling like a fool and hoping that my red lips weren’t serving to make the whole thing appear even more ridiculous.

I think I’ll wait awhile before I try to bring out my inner Shakira again.

The most amazing stupid tricks network marketing companies do is letting some legal department enforce their policies and procedures.

Give this some thought. If a network marketing company has a legal team that writes the policies and procedures and oversees the legalities of the company, the network marketing company has generally spent about a quarter of a million dollars retaining this legal department.

So now the legal department has to justify their existence, since they just added a quarter of a million dollars overhead to the company. So the legal department writes Policies and Procedures so convoluted, so confusing – it’s just legalese.

And you have to read chapter 7, and remember 7.C. Then down in 19.D, they talked about it again, and you have to pull those 2 together. They talked a little bit about it up here. Now they add the rest of it down here.

But if you don’t connect the two, you don’t know what they’re talking about.
Lawyers LOVE writing All This BS!

Example: in some companies, the P & Ps say you are responsible to monitor your downline organization’s activities. If THEY do something illegal, then YOU are responsible for that.

A friend of mine got terminated because one of his downline members recruited somebody who was in another deal sideline, which was cross recruiting. But they held the sponsor responsible, and they terminated him, so they could steal his check. Real simple.

And your person signing the bonus checks needs to have built a downline themselves. MLM CEOs who have never built a downline do not have a clue about MLM distributors.

Network Marketing Companies Would Be NOTHING Without Distributors!
CEOs who have built a downline know that. They know that companies are nothing without the distributors.

Sure, they need a product. Yeah they have to ship a product. Yes, they have to send a bonus check. But who built the company? Who built the volume?
Answer: The distributor. And if the CEO realizes that, then they treat the distributors like gold. They don’t have some legal department trying to terminate their distributors.

Stupid Trick #2
And the other stupid thing that network marketing companies do is, they don’t listen to the field. The reps are in the trenches everyday. Companies need to know what their reps see, what they do, what they hear, what they say.

We tell people all the time, “Read your Policies & Procedures.” I got a call the other day from the COO of a company. Actually, his secretary called me to ask some questions about why I am telling people to read their Policies & Procedures. because they have a bunch of people doing it and it ticks them off!

This company, based out of Texas, has the most ruthless Policies & Procedures you’ve ever seen. They are unbelievable.

Want To Sell the Business that YOU built? Fuhgeddaboudit!

For example – if you wanted to sell your downline, sell your business, you have a 10-page document that you have to fill out. And before you offer the business to anybody, you have to offer to the company first.

And when you mail your request for them to buy it, you have to include a $100 nonrefundable fee. And then they can say yes or no!

Next step is, when the company says “No”, they will then send you 3 upline people that you can sell your business to. You have to offer it to each of them one at a time. And the P & Ps stipulate that to buy YOUR business, they must resign their own business.

So usually, they say “No”.  And after all 3 have turned you down, one at a time, then you have to offer your business to somebody in your downline.
And they make it so clear – they say “if you circumvent any part of this procedure, you are terminated.” So I told the secretary to have the COO call me and we could visit about the situation.  And the secretary said that he does not talk to people directly!

And I said well, “Well, he talked to YOU!” So she told me he doesn’t return phone calls, doesn’t talk to any reps directly.

I was stunned. I sat in my chair thinking, “Wow! This is unbelievable!” Now this guy wants to talk to me to find out why I am telling people to read their policies and procedures. That is amazing. what a trip!

Efter bowlingen och pizzaätandet så bar det iväg till min kompis för ett Mary Kay-party. Det var del 2 så att säga. Första gången handlade det och hudvård och nu sminket. Det blev en ganska sen start och det blev sent hem också.

Det var roligt att få lite uppiggande party. Jag kände mig jättesöt med allt som vi smetade på i ansiktet. Roligt och lärorikt för jag har ju inte hållt på med sånt här tidigare. Angela Wilhelmi of Nu Skin Galvanic Spa was our first speaker today and she started her talk about how the recession has hurt the skin care industry but not in the way we would think – the downturn has effected Avon and Revlon – the lower end cosmetics field. On the up turn is Estes Lauder, Nu Skin and Mary Kay. They have all had increases in profits during this tough economic times. Angela did a demonstration today on hands – she used the body shaping gel on the hand of Dr Parrott to show us the difference one treatment could make. Once the gel is applied you use the Galvanic Spa on that area in constant motion which uses the negative electrons in the gel to push the gel in deeper into the epidermis. The product is based on the studies done by Dr. L Galvanie, who discovered that electricity drives life with frogs. The research done by Nu Skin  has involved this principle of using electricity to drive nutrients deep into the dermis layer of your skin, most topical treatments just treat the epidermis level of our skin which is the most outer level of the skin. Há 4 meses estou usando essa linha da Mary kay, não como deveria, porque não é sempre que dá tempo ou que tenho disposição para fazer o passo a passo, como já falei sobre vários itens que testo, uma das principais qualidades de um produto, pra mim, é a praticidade.

Apesar de achar meio exagerado o tanto de esfoliantes na limpeza o resultado é muito bom, há o creme de limpeza 3 em 1 (Passo 01), que pode ser usado todo dia, o de micro-abrasão e o de restauração (passo 02 e 03) que se recomenda usar 2 vezes por semana. Quando feita a limpeza com os 3 produtos fica uma delicia a pela e bem limpinha mesmo.

O que pra mim não deu muito certo foi o hidratante com protetor solar (passo 04 dia), ele deixa minha pele oleosa, mas tenho usado mesmo assim, primeiro porque gosto de usar os produtos da mesma linha, o tratamento completo e segundo porque aqui a pele resseca tanto que um pouco de oleosidade nem faz tão mal. A solução noturna (passo 04 noite) é uma delicia, as vezes a uso durante o dia, porque sinto na hora que passo um certo alívio, é dificil explicar, mas é como jogar água na terra seca…

Bom é isso, vou continuar usando, porque o único ponto negativo pra mim foi a oleosidade do creme com protetor, talvez tenha outro que substitua, mas como ganhei a linha quando já estava partindo do Brasil não teve como trocar. No mais, aprovado!
