Here is what we have in store in Central Maryland. Winter is near, and the beaches, and piers we use so frequently will soon become frozen into the river. This shot was taken one crisp afternoon in January 2008. This pier is a short walk from the house and I was nearly frozen when I arrived. I snapped a few quick shots and headed home for a hot cup of coffee.

Oh, Ocean City, Maryland, how I love you! It 'a great place to take, where your friends and love

Oh, Ocean City, Maryland, how I love you!

It 'a great place to take, where your friends and loved ones to be taken during the summer months if you live anywhere near Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The place is always jumping with good food, entertainment, luxury hotels, nightclubs and, of course, the splendid promenade, the beach and surfing.

Here are the ten things that I recommend if you are in Ocean City, areMaryland

1) surfing and swimming – the waves are fantastic. Park your car in one of the many side streets perpendicular opening directly to the public beach. No entry fee, no nothing. So right dive in.

2) The Ocean City Boardwalk is certainly among the top 10 great walks around the country. E 'wide and long and always full of young and old strutting their stuff and consumptionMega amounts of suntan lotion and ice. Originally built around 1900 to 1915, the waterfront is still the place to look for a day "hard" on the beach.

3) Parasailing – just smooth your screen in a rapid increase in the engine and across the Atlantic like a seagull! Take a ride in tandem with your loved ones and see the complete picture of a few hundred meters into the air and you know what a great time, the animals are long with every year. The city is home toA number of experts parasail operators with good safety standards.

4) jet boats and pontoon boats are designed for fast, young and angry. Rent a boat "cigarette" by one of several companies and through the crystal blue sea like a knife with a blue cake. It is not recommended for the faint of heart.

5) The Zoo near Salisbury has just celebrated its 50th year and is a great place to bring children toto. It is 27 miles west of Ocean City is located on Route 50 are bison, jaguars, bald eagles and a lot of furry friends and Wingy must keep our legs to ask yourself happy and comfortable one or two hours.

6) Assateague Island, ahh … only in the neighborhood, where packs of wild horses still roam free on the beach. What a great place to pitch a tent and spend a night or two in the lap of nature. Ideal for campers and nature lovers, this U.S. National Parkvery close to close Ocean City. Has over 350 campsites open from April to October.

7) free concerts on the beach. Visitors in July and August of this treatment are free on the beach. Tributes to Elvis, Rod Stewart, Jimmy Buffet and many other great music from Ocean City Department of Recreation and Parks provided. Do not miss the Labor Day weekend concerts

is the city's most famous SunfestFestival. We need to show a mega-scale arts and crafts, entertainment circus, "search for hidden jewels in the sand" competition, and, of course, great food, all in one.

9) Each runner? Ocean City Seaside 10K is fantastic, 10K race is a scenic route. A must for mastering all these excess calories that would package during the meal, that all the good things and get off at the beach.

10) of WinterfestLights. And who says Ocean City was just the fun in the summer? Check-in in November, December and January night, and you will be surprised to be in the middle of a forest of light! Memory, create the Razzle Dazzle by tens of thousands of holiday lights incredible arches along the city streets for a long time.

Baltimore, Maryland – Glen H. Footman, 52, died November 9 in the University of Maryland Shock

Baltimore, Maryland – Glen H. Footman, 52, died November 9 in the University of Maryland Shock and Trauma Center after what the Bangor Daily News called “a 14-month emotional and courageous battle for life” from gunshot wounds in a possible anti-LGBT hate attack in the Mouth Vernon section of Baltimore. Footman was shot twice on September 22, 2008 after being seen walking hand-in-hand with his soul-mate and life partner of 12 years, Alejandro Chavarria. According to Baltimore police, the two gay men were walking shortly after midnight when a young man on a bicycle came up behind them. Footman turned to speak to the young man while Chavarria walked on ahead. Chavarria shouted back to his partner, “Come on, let’s go,” when two shots rang out, and Footman fell, wounded to the pavement. As Chavarria ran to help Footman, the assailant ran from the scene, but then raced back to collect his bike, and then made his getaway. Police have been treating the case as a possible anti-gay hate crime from the beginning of their investigation. The Baltimore Sun reports that the victim’s father, H. Rodney Footman of Brewer, Maine spoke to reporters by phone to say that Baltimore police have not been encouraging about ever locating the shooter. The elder Footman has no doubt that his son was killed because he was gay. Shortly before the attack, Footman’s father said, a witness overhead the assailant brag, “‘I’m going to kill myself a gay tonight.’ He took off with that intention and he did just that. Police were very up front with us in saying that the chance of this ever being solved is practically nil.” Glen Footman’s death not only bereaves his relatives and his partner. Footman was a force for good in the community who will be sorely missed by many. He was a licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselor in Maine, Rhode Island, and Texas, and held degrees in business administration and pastoral theology. He counseled youth in Maine and Texas. He and Alex had moved to Maryland shortly before the shooting, where he was to take up a new job at an insurance company. He leaves behind two children from a previous marriage, Nicole Leah and Blaine Jonathan. His beloved Alex, who the Bangor Daily News calls Footman’s “sustaining grace during his last challenging year of physical and emotional struggle,” has returned to San Antonio, where he and Glen first met. Police have not yet ruled Footman’s death a homicide, pending the coroner’s report on whether the injuries sustained in the 2008 shooting were the actual cause of death.

I finally was able to get my first hunt in this year and work off that Thanksgiving dinner from the night before, it was also my first trip to Hopkins Game Farm on the Eastern Shore.

My father and I made our way east toward Kennedyville to hunt some Chukar on the Hopkins property. The wind was fierce out there today which only meant the already quick Chukar were going to be movin’.

As soon as the birds flushed the got picked up by the gusts and would soar about 200+ yards away. I am embarrassed to admit that I shot a whole box of shells on 12 birds, I could cop out and blame it on my Beretta that I’ve been shooting for years but lets be serious…

Most of the birds I shot I hit on the second shot on a readjustment, the majority of the time we had to lead the birds about a foot and a half before firing.

My only gripe with Hopkins is the terrain is too vanilla for shooterslooking for a challenging hunt. You walk up aisles of brush only about 10-15 yards wide, all in all you cover only about 5 acres of brush. However, their birds are nicer than most places I’ve hunted, the Chukars were big, fast and fun to shoot.

If you are looking for a more challenging hunt that will leave your quads begging for you to stop, I suggest Gunpowder up off Falls Road. You cover probably three times the land and it is far from flat.

I had the privilege to model for Top Shore Photos this week! Let me first say that I am not a model and do not intend on trying to be one. It is actually VERY awkward to be in front of the camera and not playing the role as photographer. I must say, it was a blast and I enjoyed it…even with my “sad mood.” It was good to get outta the house and get my mind off the stresses of life. We shot in Pemberton Park in Salisbury, MD…misty rain, chilly wind, and all. Top Shore Photos made it fun and relaxing…here are 2 photos I edited myself. Enjoy!

Despite the time constraints due to the sun-setting [stupid daylight savings]…we were able to get a few good shots. Miss C was a fab assistant & make-up artist for the shoot.

The time has come. Old Man Winter is knocking on the door! This photo was taken from my home this morning around 8:00 AM in Deep Creek Lake/McHenry, Maryland. The snow has not stopped falling ever since. If the temperature and humidity hold strong, I’d say it’s a good possibility Wisp Resort will turn on the snowguns and begin building their base.

The cold temperatures remind us of a few things we need to keep in mind to avoid any hassles this winter:

Be sure your heat is set at a temperature that your pipes won’t freeze.

Arrange for your snowplowing service to plow when there is more than 4” of accumulation. This will make it possible for REALTORS® to show the property.

Shovel walkways, entrances and sidewalks for easy access to the home and for Buyers to see what lies beneath.

Provide a mat inside the front door for wet shoes and boots.

Display pictures of the property showing what it looks like in spring, summer and fall.

To receive more detailed tips just email me Betsy.Spiker@LNF.com or visit www.DeepCreekLakeProperty.com.

Without reading the actual proposals submitted to the BDC we’re left with what we’ve read (again compiled here). Based on that limited information:

It appears that the WTMD/Towson University plan comes closest to the community-based multipurpose arts, entertainment & educational vision we’ve advocated from the start.

We cannot support a plan in which the historic theatre’s auditorium is altered, such as the Cusack’s plan suggests.

We do not believe that the addition of 24 apartments to the rear of the theatre, by JR Owens, will fix the current financial realities associated with first run films in a single screen environment.

While we applaud the educational and all-inclusive aspects of the PUPKIDS proposal, it appears to be one based on renting, not buying The Senator. This suggests that Baltimore City is expected to pay for the repairs and restoration of the theatre. Something to which, we believe, the city will not agree to do.

Whatever your opinion, make it known!

As the city is now considered the current owner The Senator is now truly The People’s Theatre. Therefore, Baltimore citizens especially have a right to have their thoughts on the future of our historic landmark theatre be heard.

We live in a world where people hide behind there true feelings and thoughts and are afraid to express themselves as is. They have to sugar coat what they think do and say.

Where Africans who who happen to be Ex – Slaves in America run around with muzzles on not able to express there thoughts. We allow the madness of being brain washed and forced fed hypocritical bigots rhetoric to be the rule of thumb. Who are you and what do you honor? Is Truth reality or is Fantasy your story? You accept what your punisher tells you as law! You have no time and place of your own to think freely, everything you do is within the confines of restriction.

When you finally break out the box of laws and restrictions and become the thoughts that are inside your mind than you will honestly be expressing your self correctly.

Do not be controlled by another person, monkey, cow, chicken, rat, simian, oppression, planned parent hood, history, television show, ministry, worship, religion, priest, cult, demand, word, persuasive argument and or people. This same person who don’t have you in his best interest because you are only learning one thing in this system and thats how to follow orders correctly. Slave is all you are and forever will be these are passed down by law:

Just to name a few

1675—An estimated 100,000 Africans are enslaved in the West Indies and another 5,000 are in British North America.

1676—Nathaniel Bacon leads an unsuccessful rebellion of whites and blacks against the English colonial government in Virginia.

1681—Maryland laws mandate that children of European servant women and African men are free.

1682—A new slave code in Virginia prohibits weapons for slaves, requires passes beyond the limits of the plantation and forbids self-defense by any African Americans against any European American.

1685—New York law forbids enslaved Africans and Native Americans from having meetings or carrying firearms.

1688—Quakers in Germantown, Pennsylvania denounce slavery in the first recorded formal protest in North America against the enslavement of Africans.

1690—By this year, all English colonies in America have enslaved Africans.

Enslaved Africans and Native Americans in Massachusetts plan a rebellion.

1692—The Virginia House of Burgesses enacts the Runaway Slave Law making it legal to kill a runaway in the course of apprehension.

1693—All fugitive Africans who have escaped slavery in the British colonies and fled to Florida are granted their freedom by the Spanish monarchy.

1694—The introduction of rice into the Carolina colony, ironically from West Africa, increases the need for labor for emerging plantations. This adds another factor to the economic justification and rationalization for expanding the slave trade.

I exchanged some more emails with a member of Verizon’s PR staff, as I continue to try to get

I exchanged some more emails with a member of Verizon’s PR staff, as I continue to try to get a better understanding of the issues previously mentioned here, with FiOS customers in some parts of the D.C. area unable to get Comcast SportsNet Plus (CSN+).

What I learned in that email exchange might be helpful to some of you who are trying to understand why you can’t get Caps and Wizards games on CSN+ via FiOS in your area, when a FiOS customer in a neighboring county can. Or why you could get MASN2 on your FiOS channel 1 during baseball season, but can’t get CSN+ now.

If you are a FiOS customer in a part of the D.C. area that gets CSN+, it is shown on your channel 1. For you, that channel is called Fios1. This distinction between Fios1 and channel 1 is key to understanding this whole situation.

For the DC market, FiOS1 is available—according to the CSN Plus Listings on CSNWashington.com—in the following areas: Montgomery County and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland and then Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Falls Church, Fredericksburg, Loudoun County, Prince William, Spotsylvania County and Stafford County in Virginia.

Now for FiOS customers in someplace like Howard County, you have a channel 1. That channel was carrying MASN2 this summer. But, that channel is now blank for you, most or all of the time, according to one FiOS customer who lives there. Channel 1 for all of these particular FiOS customers is not FiOS1; it is just channel 1 and it does not carry CSN+.

The reason channel 1 carried MASN2 for these FioS customers this summer is, according to Verizon’s PR staff, because “MASN makes MASN2 available as a full-time feed. Comcast does not make CSN+ available as a full-time feed. At this time, [Verizon is] not able to handle a part-time feed like that, so outside of where [Verizon has] FiOS1, [they] cannot offer a part-time channel like CSN+.”

So, the only way FiOS customers in these areas could get CSN+ on FiOS channel 1 would be if either:

1.) Verizon turns Channel 1 into FiOS1 in these locations, like it is in all the locations listed above or 2.) Comcast SportsNet decides at some point to turn CSN+ into a full-time feed like MASN does with MASN2.

As for point number 1, Verizon says that FiOS1 is “a local channel that [Verizon] offers right now in three areas: DC metro, Long Island (New York), and Northern New Jersey. As [FiOS] moves forward, [they'll] announce any plans to expand the channel.”

People can debate where the DC metro area begins and ends, but for right now, according to the way FiOS defines it with FiOS1, it does not include some areas that are as close as about 20 miles to where the Caps and Wizards play their home games.

If I could get Verizon to answer one question, it would be: What specifically is preventing them from putting FiOS1 on channel 1 right now in these other DC area locations where there is demand for the CSN+ games? That’s the one thing I still have not gotten a clear answer on.

As for option number 2, this would require CSN+ to fill the time outside of games with some type of content. MASN2 did this by airing ESPN News. I have not heard whether or not this is something CSN would consider or even has the capacity to do. I only know that they want to help Verizon find a solution to this problem.

Despite the uncertainties, one things is pretty clear—a lot of people are losing in the current set-up. Caps and Wizards fans are not able to watch approximately a dozen of each team’s games, FiOS risks losing some of these fans to competing cable TV companies, CSN is not having some of their content seen by people who want that content and, finally, the teams whose games aren’t being seen are missing out on some opportunities to reach current and potential fans.

We need a beer summit.
