Remarks:

Merry Christmas!

Lyrics:

Verse 1: Run

It was December 24 on Hollis after the dark
My man Santa saw a rabbi and gave the strangest remark
He said that giving was his living and I had to take part
So I grabbed a bag of goodies and I hopped up on his cart
I laced the pockets of the poor and gave the hoodie a play
Dropped some dollars up on Hollis and I went on my way
I hear your jingle Mr. Kringle peep the single, my man
so Santa hit a brotha off and come as quick as you can!

[chorus]
Santa Baby
Just slip a Benzo under the tree for me
A ‘98 convertible, light blue
I’m looking for a fly guy, like you
So hurry down the chimney tonight…

Verse 3: Ma$e

Now all Mase know
When its eight twenty-four
He be looking at the door for the ho ho ho
Cause I know
When theres a christmas uptown
Ain’t no chimney for santa to come down

Verse 4: Puff Daddy

Now to me, PD I had alot
Appreciated everything that I got
Though I used to take my pops
Who aint caught me shaking the box
Cause I knew I couldn’t wait till it turned 12 o’clock

Verse 5: Snoop Doggy Dogg

Cookies and Milk
Satin and Silk
I’m chillin in the living room, wrapped in a quilt
I’m waiting on this fat Red Suit wearing-comparing
My gifts to my homeboy next door to me
A gift here, none there, but who cares
My little sister needs a comb just to braid her nappy hair
Bbut here we go again waiting on the enemy
To slide down the chimney
Look here, that ain’t reality

[chorus]
Santa Baby
Just slip a Benzo under the tree for me
A ‘98 convertible, light blue
I’m looking for a fly guy, like you
So hurry down the chimney tonight…

Verse 6: Salt & Pepa

Santa Baby, are you really real?
Chris Kringle
Let me see you make my pockets jingle (ching ching)
We need some jobs in the ghetto
Too much gangbanging where kids are playin
I hear the church bells ringing
On christmas eve
I believe
Jesus-calling me
Forget the gifts and the shopping lists
And the new kicks
Your just falling for tricks
(you better praise him)

[chorus]
Santa Baby
Just slip a Benzo under the tree for me
A ‘98 convertible, light blue
I’m looking for a fly guy, like you
So hurry down the chimney tonight…

Verse 7: Fredro Starr

It’s the gritty-the grimy
The low down, the shifty
Yo Sticky, christmas time in the city
Late night, stars are bright
We gettin rocked!
With the 50 St. Nicholas
Start rippin this

Verse 8: Sticky Fingaz

Its the Grinch who stole christmas
Climbin down ya chimney
Kids open up they gifts
They all gonna be empty
Just like mine was
I hate to say it
But if I wasnt a boy I wouldnt have had nuthin to play wit!

Verse 9: Keith Murray

On December 25th I knew I wasn’t getting jack
when I saw Santa Claus on the corner buying crack
I ran up on him with the (blur) and asked him “yo whats up with that?”
He said “there aint no christmas kid” and I can’t get him back
Back in the days, Christmas was deep
My moms put presents under the tree while I played sleep
And peeped ha! Santa Claus never gave me nuthin
Seen them mad faces, lying and frontin
So do some good to the ghetto, Mr. Chris Kringle
Come and stay awhile, kick it with God’s Angel
Take and acknowledge my wisdom and understand
That Santa Claus is a black man
word up

[chorus 2 times]
Santa Baby
Just slip a Benzo under the tree for me
A ‘98 convertible, light blue
I’m looking for a fly guy, like you
So hurry down the chimney tonight

A few months ago, Diddy finally allowed Mase to make music again. Since he is free to collaborate with new artists, Mase has wasted no time making connections. French Montana has the pleasure of being the first artist that Mase is working with.

Currently, French Montana is working on his debut album. The album will be released on Konvict Muzik, but it will be handled by Mase. The Harlem World rapper will serve as the A&R for the album. In the past, the rapper had expressed wanting to work with some of the newer talent. This is his chance.

Not only will Mase be working on the executive side of the album, he will also be making his first official recordings in six years on this album. His currently untitled debut album will be coming sometime next year on his own label, Cocaine City and on Konvict Muzik. This is the first time that Mase has ever served as an A&R for the album.

Mase will use his work on this album to make his big return to the music scene that will take place before the end of 2010. Like French Montana, his album has no set release date nor a title. His album will be released on Bad Boy Records and Interscope Records.

I took a self-imposed 3-day blog break (from both reading & writing), and today feels like Chris

I took a self-imposed 3-day blog break (from both reading & writing), and today feels like Christmas! The top five blogs I was most pumped to read (in no particular order): Sweaty, Tony, Lamebook, Phil, and Little House on the Southern Prairie. Okay and Edith Zimmerman too. I LOVE EL INTERNET!

(Not the actual video, but listen to the song. It’s a favorite.)

So here’s where I live. I’m having my first visitor today. NERBOUS!

All-white bedroom. Thinking of being creative and painting something on that blind. Any ideas? It’s above the bed.

Place had horrendous mustard-colored scalloped 1970s carpeting but we ripped that ish up! It unleashed a slight smell that I hope doesn’t stay for long. Maybe I’ll buy a candle. I have to be careful though because I’m so sensitive to fragrances. Suggestions from readers of the “eco” persuasion?

Now the floor is linolium + area rugs. Still need another rug or two. It’s a far cry from the restored wood floors in the historic home I was used to, but hey, it works.

You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you just might find, you get what you ne-e-eed!

On the surface, a hit single is something that artists wish for their entire careers. Even being a one-hit wonder is a greater accomplishment than some will ever experience. HOWEVER…

Just like the fast way isn’t always the best way, and every dollar isn’t a good dollar, every hit ain’t a good one either. There are some folks out there who came to a flying halt because of a song that (at the time) added to their popularity. The Fat Boys, for instance, were immediately done after they did the “Wipeout” shit with The Beach Boys and the “Twist” with Chubby Checker. Sure, it got ‘em all over MTV for six months, but they were dead in the ocean right after that.

But today, I’d like to talk to y’all about a single from ‘98 that the kids loved. Matter fact, if you were young enough and watching Rugrats, you prob’ly loved it too. Still, I don’t know if there’s ever been another song that killed off a group, a rapper, and a producer at the same time. There were seven people involved in this shit, and only one came out of it with no backlash. Yep… I’m talkin’ about “Take Me There” by BlackStreet, Mya, Ma$e, and Blinky Blink. Make a wish, close your eyes and count to five.

BEFORE this song, BlackStreet was one of the most popular groups out. They changed members more than Menudo, but that’s neither here nor there. Teddy Riley, who was both a member of the group and the man behind the music, was one of the most important producers of the previous 10 years. Mase wasn’t doin’ too bad for himself, with a triple-platinum debut album and whatnot. He even started up his own label. On this label was a group called Harlem World, and one of its key members was Mase’s brother, Blinky Blink. Mya was a relatively new artist (and a good damn lookin’ one at that), who had a nice lil’ handful of hits with her name attached.

So then… this video comes out. And it’s for the kids, I get that. It wasn’t SUPPOSED to be hot to a 19-year-old who was listening to Clue tapes and shit. But Mason and Blink rappin’ in that cartoon wagon? No dice, bruh. Them BlackStreet niggas were one wardrobe change away from lookin’ like Teletubbies. Mya was really the only one who seemed like a good fit. Maybe it’s because she was still young, or because she looked way less goofy than anyone else in the video- either way, she didn’t seem too out of place.

That entire ‘98-’99 fall and winter, this video was all over the TV. The song was all over the radio. Just hearing that opening xylophone or whatever that shit was used to fukk with me so bad. And it wasn’t the fact that it was a kiddie joint. Actually, there was a group of kids who had a song out around that same time that I can’t WAIT to confess to liking (stay tuned… you will laugh). It was just the overall candyassness of the whole thing.

But I’m just one person, right? I’m not so self-important that I think my opinion reflects the views of everyone. But y’know what DOES reflect the views of everyone? The way BlackStreet caught a brick when their next album came out (and a video that might even be worse than this one). And the way Ma$e was well on his way to a brick, right before he “found God” and retired. And the way Blinky… well, he was wack anyway, but I can’t imagine his wagon ride helped matters. ‘99 was not kind to any of them, and I believe it to be rooted in this train wreck of a hit.

I doubt any of the parties involved wake up in the morning with regretful feelings about “Take Me There”. And why should they- after all, it was a hit, right? Still, I’m willin’ to bet that they (with the exception of Mya) have all considered the possibility that their quick decline in popularity was due to them getting in that Rugrats wagon and takin’ a big-ass jump over a shark.

It is acceptable when a rapper leaves the industry to find God. There have been quite a few rappers

It is acceptable when a rapper leaves the industry to find God. There have been quite a few rappers to do so. Every now and again, these rappers return to release a new album. Usually, they come back as “clean” rappers. Among these rappers that found God, Mase was one of them, he also returned to the game.

Mase was the flagship artist of Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records in the late 1990s. At the time, Mase was the biggest star in rap. In only a matter of months, Combs transformed Mase from one of the most vicious gangsta rappers into a marketable pop rapper. Due to his status as a record producer, Combs had Mase featured on every top song and every remix.

By the time he released his debut album, Mase was a household name. His debut album, Harlem World, would end up going quadruple platinum. The first three singles that he released managed to be top ten hits for the rapper. His start was one of the best in hip hop history. In addition to all of that, his album was well-received.

Despite all of the acclaim, hardcore fans of Mase felt that he had gone soft. In an attempt to regain his original fan base, Mase decided that his next album, Double Up, should be a darker album. In 1999, he began promoting the album. Early in the promotional run for the album, Mase made a shocking announcement. He said that he was retiring from rap.

The rapper revealed that he had found God and he could not promote an album such as the one he had just recorded. Mase left rap and moved to Atlanta. It was here that he became a pastor and started his own church, S.A.N.E. Most people felt that this was a cover-up and that Mase had been ran out of Harlem and rap.

After a five year hiatus from the industry, Mase returned with a profanity-free album, Welcome Back. Even though he was back in the game and back beside Sean Combs, it was clear that he did not want to be. He said that he would never share a stage with Combs again until Combs became saved. That did not happen.

In 2005, Mase and 50 Cent became good friends. It did not take long for 50 Cent to decide that he should sign Mase to G-Unit Records. 50 went to Combs in an attempt to get Mase out of his contract with Bad Boy, each attempt by 50 failed because he was unwilling to free Mase. This led to a feud between 50 Cent and Sean Combs.

Despite the fact that Mase was not signed to G-Unit, he still associated himself with their artists. It was not much longer until he was appearing on G-Unit mixtapes, hosting his own, and wearing products endorsed by 50 Cent. Towards the end of 2006, Mase began distancing himself from 50 and his G-Unit crew.

The following year, he revealed that he no longer had any interest in signing with 50 Cent’s label. Instead, it was rumored that Mase was out of his Bad Boy contract and was preparing to sign with SRC Records. There was even an album rumored to be released in late 2007 from the rapper that was supposed to be called The Suicide Note.

This album never came to be and the biggest news that came from Mase was a rumor about him trying to sleep with a transgendered prostitute. Somewhere along the way, it was clear that Mase was no longer a pastor. There are not too many pastors that would do the things that he was doing and still expect to get into heaven.

Fans and critics, alike, were wondering exactly what was going on with Mase. Earlier this year, he and Sean Combs ended their feud. It was revealed that Mase has been signed to Bad Boy’s new venture under Interscope Records. Soon, Combs gave Mase permission to collaborate with other artists and to record a new album.

In the very near future, Mase plans to begin promoting his new album. This album will be released sometime next year. For this new album, Mase plans to return to his hardcore roots. Everyone knew that it would only be a matter of time before his past finally catches up to him. A lot of things about Mase have been revealed, but there is one man ready to confirm it.

Atlanta rapper, Legacy tha Jesus, was a member of Mase’s S.A.N.E. for three years. In that time, he became very close to the former rap star. He said that Mase avoids doing interviews with certain people so that he does not have to explain exactly what it is that he is doing. Legacy said that Mase would use his congregation to help him fund his rap albums.

The rapper went on to call Mase a hypocrite. He said that Mase would tell the people that he was going to use the money for other things when he was really funding his album. Legacy said that Mase would go to the strip club and “make it rain,” then tell the men to be faithful to their wives. From there, he called Mase a false prophet.

He went on to say that he did not expect a perfect pastor in Mase, but he expects his pastor to be doing better than what Mase is.

“Now Ma$e be the man that’s never in his hood/ Yeah he wear a ring but he still like wood/ Girl in his eyes you the baddest but he dates men on the low, he’s a …”

As Hip-Hop Wired was the first to report, Legacy The Jesus, a former member of Ma$e’s congregation, had some choice words for the “false prophet” as he accused him of deceiving his congregation.

After catching the attention of several other media outlets including BET, XM Radio, Rickey Smiley and Atlanta’s V-103’s Ryan Cameron, Mase still dodged several dead on questions regarding his gangsta pastoral ways.

Putting more pressure on Pastor Betha to either pick the church or the streets and rap because “he can’t do both,” Legacy has released a diss track to his former spiritual advisor. A follow up to his previous song “Eviction” which was more of a light hearted vent for his disgust with Ma$e, this time he really went in and lifted up the sheets.

On the newly released “3 Strikes,” Legacy even questions Ma$e’s sexuality with bars like:

“Now Ma$e be the man that’s never in his hood/ Yeah he wear a ring but he still like wood/ Girl in his eyes you the baddest but he dates men on the low, he’s a …”

The lyrical assault then continues with:

“…You ain’t got no goons, those are church boys behind you/ Cam and Jim Jones ain’t gone never walk beside you…”

While many have backed away from tackling the elephant in the room when it comes to Ma$e, Legacy pulls back the curtain and steps to it head on.

“I’m just addressing what everybody wanna know. Who are you man? First you a rapper. Then you a pastor. Now you a gangsta. Come on dawg, you are confused. You don’t know what set to claim… You don’t even know if you like boys or girls. This dude is a phony. You can’t open up 10 churches talking about you spraying and smoking piff on a plane and switching dames. Ya’ll gotta stop listening to music man and listen to the lyrics. This dude is fake and I’m gonna expose you… and I’m just getting started.”

There was a time when everything that was stamped with his name or infamous cameos were destined to be a hit. Biggie & Mase were a few but clearly those times and wonders are a thing of his past. He told us before that he won’t stop but after watching his latest effort…I’m begging Diddy to cease! Let’s just say Dirty Money’s “Love Come Down” isn’t making mine fall like what Evelyn Champagne King once did for me in the 80’s. To be completely honest, Diddy really never had rhyming skills but at least his past efforts were sincerely better than this new slow tempo talking…could it be blamed on those grills in his mouth? I mean we have to blame it on something! This video doesn’t compliment this song if that was even possible. It’s mainly dark, chime-ridden set makes it difficult to see the singers faces even with those annoying flashing lights…or is that the point? Damn…I really don’t have much more to add to this wack song/video. Musically Diddy, you’re DONE!!

The recent feud between former associates has the hip hop world buzzing. A lot of people have spoken

The recent feud between former associates has the hip hop world buzzing. A lot of people have spoken on the situation. Now, Mase has delivered his opinion on the feud. Not too many people know that Mase and Jay-Z briefly feuded from 1996 until 1997, but they ended on friendly terms.

Most other rappers speaking on the feud have said that it is a shame that two people as close as Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z were to be feuding. Others have said that Beanie Sigel has no right to go at Jay-Z like this because of what he did for Beans and because of his legacy. Despite Beans teaming with 50 Cent, Mase still said that there was no way that Sigel could win.

According to Mase, Beanie Sigel can send all of the disses that he wants to Jay-Z, nothing is going to happen. He said that because Jay is one of rap’s biggest stars, right now. He has the support of urban radio and of such networks as BET and MTV. Mase said that until Beanie Sigel is able to get a hit single, he is going to lose to Jay no matter how hard-hitting his disses were.

What Mase said makes a lot of sense and was probably something that a lot of other people were already thinking. Honestly, without a popular single on the radio, Beanie Sigel is going to fizzle away and no one is going to listen to what he has to say. As of right now, Beans is just another unhappy and unproven rapper, along the lines of Peedi Crack.

Now that Diddy has moved his Bad Boy label, once again, he has taken the time to reflect on some of the label’s former stars. After the death of The Notorious B.I.G., his Bad Boy ship was without its captain. Mase was being built up to be another rapper on the label. After B.I.G.’s death, Mase was forced to be the star. Black Rob, on the other hand was to be another rapper on the label.

After five years of battling with Mase, Diddy has finally allowed him some freedom within his contract. If he wants to, now, Mase can record with artists that are not signed to Bad Boy. He said that he and Mase still have unfinished business, so he cannot simply release him from the label. Diddy wants to make sure that he receives a full return on his investment with Mase.

In 1996, when he signed Mase to Bad Boy, he signed him to a multi-million dollar deal that was to cover multiple albums. The Harlem rapper released two albums in the deal before leaving to become a pastor. Five years after he left, he returned to release one more album with the label. Combined, he only sold five million copies for Bad Boy, much less that Diddy’s investment.

Despite his contractual obligations to Bad Boy Records, Mase had hoped to leave in 2005. 50 Cent was trying to sign him to G-Unit Records. Mase had come back as a clean rapper, but he abandoned that style to make hardcore rap with 50 Cent. Realizing the money that he could lose if Mase signed to G-Unit, Diddy refused to let him go.

When Diddy refused to let Mase out of his deal with Bad Boy, a feud erupted between the two. Now that some time has passed, Diddy and Mase have ended their feud. In the Mase situation, Diddy did admit to being tricked twice, but he will not be tricked again. After he talked about Mase, the conversation shifted to Black Rob.

Ever since 2004, Black Rob has been in prison, serving a nine year sentence. Due to that, he does not have much of an opportunity to record music. Despite his situation, Diddy credited the rapper as one of most dope rappers that he has ever worked with. He hopes to begin working with him again when he is released in 2013.

C’mon Now! Firstly, Sean “Diddy” Combs lost Mase, then Loon and now the Making tha Band final 5, Day26!! The boy band released two albums, “Day26″ (2008) & “Forever in a day” (2009), on Diddy’s record label,Bad Boy Records. The group told BoomBox that they had served their tie with Bad Boy Record and it was time for them to moved on to the next one.

They then confirmed that they had signed to Atlantic Records now - ” Bad Boy is always our family, but we’re with Atlantic right now…we really want to get people focused on the artistry, on the music. I think a lot of people lost it with the entertainment of the show. So now, we really want to show people what we’re all about, that we do our thing whether it’s on stage, in the studio, writing and producing — we do it all” – All I gat to say is “………Wow, Diddy man!!”
