“Sun Tea”

November 19th, 2009

This is “Green Week” on NBC, which means that every show has some sort of environmental sustainability storyline in it. And while the shows did similar episodes a few seasons ago (The Office did its “Survivorman” parody and 30 Rock did the great “Greenzo”), it’s a well that has quite a bit of content in it, depending on how the shows wants to go about it.

While The Office (which I won’t be reviewing tonight, although I’ll probably throw some thoughts onto the end of the page) simply used it as a theme for the cold open (as it did with Halloween), 30 Rock takes a more continuous and as a result scattered approach. Giving Kenneth the task of “greening” 30 Rock felt forced, and while the episode wanted to try to make it seem subversive and clever the show has done too many similar things before.

However, continuing last week’s improvement on the season as a whole, this week had a cohesive point of view if we ignore the environmental side of things, presenting two stories that allowed for both some brilliant absurdity and actions which are driven by character rather than plot. And, just when you think that the environmental story is entirely worthless, the show spins off a few random parts of other scenes into the storyline and helps bring everything full circle in a sequence that actually is as clever as it wants it to be.

Plus, Teddy Ruxpin was a frakkin’ lawyer.

Yes, that was really the episode’s highlight: the idea that Kathy Geiss was being represented in a court of law by a talking Teddy Ruxpin doll who simply wants to be the media’s friend. It was the season’s most hilarious cutaway, the kind of scene that makes you pause and laugh, which is what 30 Rock needs when its plots aren’t working as well as they could. Ultimately here, Jack’s story was actually quite strong, as the public scandal facing Don Geiss forces him to consider avoiding having children in order to ensure he has no similar situations in his future. If Jack had been in the storyline alone, perhaps it would have been too simple, but pairing him with Tracy (who always wants a vasectomy so that he can tell dirty stories) is always, always a good idea. Morgan and Baldwin play off of each other amazingly well, and they had some great material here.

Baldwin was strong throughout, sure, but I definitely think Morgan was the star here. I got a huge kick out of the “I know what that means”/”Then why won’t you tell me?!” exchange between Tracy and Tracy Jr., and the “Well I hope he made me an Acrosshelmet too” line was a stroke of genius. I like these stories because they humanize characters that are both heartless and absurd at the same time, and while this was no “Rosemary’s Baby” I thought that both actors were having a lot of fun, and anything that involves Dr. Leo Spaceman (who didn’t get a huge one-liner [okay, "what about CHEERS lied to me" killed] but did get a number of marvelous line ridings for Chris Parnell) is going to be worth our time.

As for Liz’s central storyline, it was well-executed and I enjoyed Nate Corddry. It’s not what one would call the most well-developed storyline in the world, but I enjoyed how its simple structure kept escalating as Liz goes through all of her known strategies for getting people out of apartments, discovering along the way that this guy happens to be immune to all of them. I was particularly taken with Dot Com’s performance as an angry ex-boyfriend, primarily because of the continuity of his desire to be taken as a serious actor, and also because of his obscure Warren Moon reference. Yes, “Episode 210″ did “Liz Buys an Apartment” better, but the final resolution (“The Frank”) working and giving her a chance to create a two-level apartment (and tying in an earlier scene that seemed odd otherwise) finished a storyline that was on occasion very funny and throughout a fine comic showcase for Tina Fey’s ability to ham it up a little.

As for Kenneth’s green challenge, it was clever throughout which is all you can really ask. I’m more than tired of the show winking to the audience, like the “Green Peacock” moment, but I thought two things worked really well. The first were the two NBC Celebrity pamphlets: they were really simple jokes, but having Kenneth read them out really made them hit home, and I particularly found the FNL one (“My show is about football. There’s a football team called the Chargers. You should unplug your chargers”) funny for some reason. And, most importantly for the storyline, it ended with another appearance by Al Gore, which was certainly more instructive (to the point of feeling preachy) but then ended on a joke that was too cute by half, but so cute that it didn’t matter. The recycling (get it? GET IT?!) of the joke from “Greenzo” was a nice touch, and if they’re going to preach I’d rather they do it with a wink like that.

Not brilliance, but a couple of big laughs and some nice storyline balance – I’ll take it.

Cultural Observations

As for The Office, the episode continued the trend of showing Jim becoming used to Michael’s role (and who didn’t want Ryan to be put in his place), and didn’t show us much new on the Dunder Mifflin side (except, as Jaime Weinman pointed out on Twitter, that the show is arguably offering a better analysis of NBC’s current leadership failure/corruption than 30 Rock’s more blatant digs at NBC are).

I enjoy that Jenna notes that Liz’s plan is something that she would do if she were smarter. The episode had a number of nice details with Jenna, in fact: both her variation on Jack’s joke about Manhattan Real Estate and her observation that Liz’s plan sounds like something she would do if she were smart, plus the idea that she has an item more personal than an erotic device plugged into an extension cord.

On a more serious and more random note, should Next to Normal end up running long enough for Alice Ripley to leave, there was a moment when Jenna was faking her suicidal tendencies where I realized that Krakowski dialed down could probably play certain parts of that role (if not up to Ripley’s standard, of course). Just an observations.

Seriously, Teddy Ruxpin as a lawyer? Amazing.

So, Matt Parkman is truly a wise man! He definitely gets the kudos of the week! But I have to tell

So, Matt Parkman is truly a wise man! He definitely gets the kudos of the week! But I have to tell you that I would be majorly upset if they killed off Detective Matt Parkman! He is far to valuable of a character, and much beloved to us fans!

This week we got to see our characters in the current element, which seems far superior to last week’s dull HRG story. Noah is back to his old self, on a mission to destroy heroes (excluding Claire Bear, of course), and taking names! He does so with a surprise visit (well, surprise to us anyways!) with the Haitian, Renee. But explaining to Gretchen that our mysterious Haitian’s ability isn’t enough, and she leaves Claire to go home. This led to some very akward moments between our cheerleader and her ro0mate/best friend/partner?

It didn’t seem very clear to me their relationship, and it seemed like Claire was expecting a whole lot more out of it than we initially suspected. Could Claire have been ready to experiment that way? Would it have been beneficial to the story? Absolutely not! It’s trite, the writers seemed to have just added for shock and awe, and honestly Sylar and Parkman’s story is way more awe and shock inspiring.

Speaking of which, I have really got mad props to send to both Parkman and Sylar for this week’s episode! That chess match or poker game that they were playing was definitely hardcore! Yikes! I see your tire iron, and I raise you a dead waitress! One has to admit that the funniest moment was Sylar trying to tell the security guard at the airport “you don’t see a gun in my bag!” And the security guard saying “yes I do!” Parkman hiding his ability was fantastic! But honestly how long can they keep that up?

But as always, the snooze fest story line continued about Emma and Peter… So, if you are following either of my Twitter feeds (@C_Go or @TVDuchess), you would know this complaint already… What is up with Peter’s ability? This section of the story has more holes than a sponge! He can only have one power at a time, and if he touches you he gains your ability, I get it. It’s a lame ability, I miss his old one, it made him a far better nemesis to Sylar. But the problem I have is that he was touching Emma, she was touching him, and there was no transfer of her weak ability to the Petrelli. What the heck?? Don’t try to give the excuse that he can pick and choose when he wants to take the abilities, because that is definitely not the case! He accidently got Emma’s ability in the first place.

Someone needs to explain this! Or give back his original ability!

THEORY: Nathan runs into Peter right? Nathan transfers Sylar’s abilities to Peter and he gains back his old power. *fingers crossed*

What did YOU think of this week’s episode? What are YOU hoping to see what happens next?? Do you think Sylar will take control of Matt again?

I would like to say a big thank you to the writers, thank you for finally giving Hiro a big story this season, and thank you so much for the big reveal at the end of the episode! Matt Parkman (and I) have been wondering where Mohinder was hiding all season! Thank you for making a truly valiant effort in saving this beloved series, because honestly, you’ve finally started picking up the slack! KEEP IT UP!

I was resistant at first to see Hiro attempting to save Charlie again. I seem to remember Mr. Nakamura trying that years ago, and consistantly failing. But this time, he really did cover all of his bases, crossed all his “T’’s, and dotted all of his “I”’s! He saved her, even going so far as to get Sylar to help her. Very impressive! Now if only he could get Sylar to help him. All of the fans would be sorely ticked off if we lost our lovable Japanese hero!

But I think the most pointless storyline of the episode was that of Noah’s love interest. Did it matter that he didn’t actually have an affair? He never would have slept with that woman anyway, she honestly looked too much like Claire. I think he would’ve thought that creepy, because I sure did!

And speaking of Claire, world’s worst faux ponytail ever? Save the cheerleader, lose the wig! Are they ever going to explain how she cuts her hair though?

But we have Samuel (the most interesting character by far this year) trying to enlist Hiro into his collective. Is Samuel good? Is he bad? I have no idea yet, but I am actually guessing that he isn’t. He is feeling far too much guilt over the loss of Mohinder Suresh and the kidnapping of Charlie Andrews.

This episode brought it’s A-game and really knocked it out of the park! I am loving this season! Except for all of this nonsense with the deaf doctor, she can see colors, wow… Unless they can show me how this is beneficial to the show, kill her off, or lose her like Micah. I’m bored with her.

What did YOU think of last night’s episode? What are YOUR thoughts on the season?

When Heroes first graced by television screen, I was fresh off season 23 of 24 and wanted something

When Heroes first graced by television screen, I was fresh off season 23 of 24 and wanted something different for my Mondays at 8/7 central viewing slot. Sure, the show’s premise was straight out of X-Men (minus a wheelchair bound supergenius with the ability to, literally, mindfuck you). Sure, it was over-the-top. And, sure it was convoluted in the way that if you miss one episode, you’re almost certainly screwed (and not even the “Previously on Heroes” intro could save you). But, the show was written well, the characters were well-rounded, the bad guys were actually bad and evil–even though they still had some civility, and season one ended as it should have: a big bang that should have ended the series as well.
And then comes season two: a giant love-fest that, mercifully, ended after the writer’s strike.
And, then comes season three, which wasn’t as bad as season two (at least it got Marlo Stanfield working again). But, again, compared to season one, it was God-awful. Hiro was reduced to a child, literally and figuratively. Claire, the girl that can’t die, became even more of a moody, bitchy brat. Nathan Petrelli died and became Sylar in order to keep Sylar under wraps–and to keep him from eating more brains, or something. And all the while, we got about 30 new characters that ended up dying by the end of the season…I guess.
And, now we’re at (sigh) season four.
Tim Kring must have a rule that “no one that dies on this show really stays dead,” especially considering that we’ve seen Charlie die of a blood clot, Sylar, and possibly now being trapped in time forever. Plus, we have Niki and “triplets” (FTW?!) and the numerous Butterfly Effect type scenarios that destroy the world. That, and now, basically everyone has superpowers. Ando with his whole “I am LASERS” routine, Suresh with his alien/bug/zombie(?) thing last season, the recruits from last season, hell…Matt Parkman’s baby is probably the second coming of Jack Jack. (Incredibles fan, anyone?)
Yawn.
So, I’m watching Heroes–a show that was once the greatest thing on television for me–last night and fell asleep before the show was halfway over (and woke up on the clearly Michael Bay-influenced “Trauma,” but that’s another rant, entirely)
Yeah, it’s safe to say that Heroes is on pedestrian status now. Hell, even House, with its derivative plots–or Grey’s, with its shitshow of a plot this season–entice me more. Hopefully, that show V, that premieres tonight, can restore my faith in sci-fi on broadcast networks. But, considering it’s basically a reboot of an 80s franchise (does Hollywood have any original ideas anymore?), I may just pass on the premiere for a free showing of “The Fourth Kind.”
At least they both have aliens.

Sources at NBC have told sci-fi site Airlock Alpha that execs may be looking to put the kibosh on Heroes, maybe as early as the end of this season.

“There isn’t much happening with this show in terms of audience, and giving it a ‘final chapter’ feel is something the network is considering to help allow the show to go out with a bang,” said the source, who asked not to be identified.

While Heroes started out strong in its first season, its story has since turned into one giant clusterf**k and the show can never seem to decide exactly what it wants to do with itself. Is Sylar a good guy or a bad guy? Should we give Suresh mutant powers or not? Should everyone be able to swap powers so we can up the big explosion and cool factors? All important questions, but one thing is for sure: Future Hiro will comes back in time to tell someone that the world is in trouble…and only the Heroes can save it!

For now, you can file this under “Rumors.” You can also file it under, “It’s About Time.” “Everytime Ali Larter Tries Acting Sexy I Want To Punch Myself In The Privates,” would also be acceptable.

SPOILER ALERT!! - When Hiro (Masi Oka) travels three years into the past, he has a second chance to save Charlie (guest-star Jayma Mays from Glee) from the hands of Sylar (Zachary Quinto). However, Samuel’s (Robert Knepper) presence serves to complicate Hiro’s mission even further. Elsewhere, H.R.G.’s (Jack Coleman) past is revealed. Once Upon A Time In Texas airs Monday, November 2nd @ 8 p.m. EST on NBC.

Charlie (Jayma Mays) and Hiro (Masi Oka) are reunited next week on Heroes.
Says Masi Oka, “This was one of my favorite episodes of the series. I had the opportunity to explore the many layers of Hiro. It was truly wonderful working with Jayma again, and I even got to play against a younger me. Ah, how naive we were. It’s an episode full of joy and tears. It’s Hiro’s Company Man and our homage to episode 8 of Season One. This scene is where Hiro finally gets his long-awaited kiss. His dream upon the thousand cranes, the origami in his left hand, came true. But is there a happy ending? It’s Heroes after all. I hope you enjoy watching the episode as much as I had making it. Thank you!”

People love them stars, yes sir they most certainly do. Look at how they carry themselves some mutte

People love them stars, yes sir they most certainly do. Look at how they carry themselves some mutter. Don’t they look perfect together? How is she so thin? Why is he so brooding? Why am I talking to the LCD?

The fold is always happy to provide the answers:

Physics.
No.
Surgery.
Tosser.
The crystal!

If we were to distance ourselves from the glossed silicone for two minutes, we would see that every acclaimed emmy-coveted docu-dramedy has a support performance of such brilliance and restrained subtlety – you barely notice they damn near made the show.

Heres six of the best.

Hiro Nakamura (Heroes, played by Masi Oka)

It’s disappointing to see how far our heroes have fallen from season to season. You can fly for Christ sake – go take a trip, look at the Northern Lights. Let’s see if that doesn’t broaden the horizons you sulking little cretins. While many have faltered over the years, one has remained true to his mission statement and true to the fans – Hiro Nakamura. Yes Hiro, the subtitled bit, where the texts jumps around like a giddy school girl and the fans scream Waffle! Hiro is the only realistic portrayal of an otherwise unfathomable high-concept. Put simply, if you had powers you would enjoy them. And Hiro certainly does that. It has now got to the stage where I simply gloss over the screen until that cheery chubby cherub turns up to save the day.

Ari Gold (Entourage, played by Jeremy Piven)

Like it, Loath it. It is probably because of one man – Jeremy Piven’s alter-ego onanist Ari Gold. Piven brings such a high level of intensity to the character that its got many people wondering how does the man do it. I heard through the grapevine he isn’t actually acting. Fair dues though.

Tobias Funke (Arrested Development, played by David Cross)

While the cast of Arrested Development nailed their roles to absolute perfection, it was David Cross’ Tobias Funke that stood out amongst the rest. Cross plays ambivalence down to a science, and in a strong emsemble, somehow managed to steal the show with each one of his pathetic attempts. Arrested Development went under the radar over here and if you haven’t heard of the program I strongly recommend having a ganders. We could all do with a bit more Funke in our lives (sorry, no more puns – im better than this!).

Jack Donaghy (30 Rock, played by Alec Baldwin)

Ladies, Mr Jack Donaghy. NBC’s head of television programming and microwave ovens and a voice that would make a wolverine purr. Since I keep throwing out statements as facts, I shall continue to keep balance. He is the greatest suit to ever appear on television, with humour so dry he could pass for cider. Alec may be known stateside for his numerous SNL appearances. Over here we know him for straight to dvd flicks. But I think it’s time Baldwin Sr. got a few more roles thrown his way – we can forgive him for Sisters Keeper.

Benjamin Linus (Lost, played by Michael Emerson)

It’s a piece of piss to play the lead on a primetime show. You got a chin? You got the part stubbles! To play the creep though; you need a solid thespian. Linus has mastered the art of being the unnerving, unknowing specimen that has become the hallmark of the franchise. Oh he’s so evil, so bloody weird looking! The fans passionate disdain for this character speaks volumes of just how good a job Michael Emerson is doing. For this reason, I think he might just be my favourite character on the most frustrating, unrewarding programme to have ever been conceived by man.

Omar Little (The Wire, played by Michael K. Williams)

There are too many strong performances in The Wire to mention in this one post, but you knew if you had to pick one, only one, it would be Omar Little. The homosexual-gangster-whistling-robin-hood-assassin takes the biscuit for strange hyphenated partners. I’m pretty certain David Simon simply threw contradictory stereotypes into a bucket, tossed them against a wall and brought to life one of the most compelling characters in television history. This takes nothing away from Mr K. Williams performance. Brando put cotton wool in his mouth and talked like a chimp for an Oscar. Omar has not only redefined ethnic categorisation in contemporary culture (listen to Kane and Ghet’s for proof of the pud), he’s done it with a kick in his step and a whistle in his…

Anyways. Keep ya leads, we got these.

(Season 4, Episode 5)

I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but sometimes I wonder if we don’t have more people reading TV Squad than Heroes has viewers. And so I want to keep reminding fallen fans who may have jumped ship over the past two not-so-great seasons that things are going much better this season.

There’s a better balance in each episode than there’s been. In the past few weeks, we’ve been sticking to mostly three storylines per week. This time around, we checked in on Peter, Claire and Sylar (after his unearthing last week). They’re allowing the characters room to breathe and be themselves, rather than just rushing into the next adventure.

It was character growth and development that I’d missed the most, and we’re finally getting it. Zachary Quinto was fantastic this episode, and even Hayden Panettiere showed an inkling of range. Oh, who am I kidding, she was as wooden as ever, but that’s why we like her … right?

Science tells us that NBC’s Heroes is a horrible television show. It began with great promise, but due to the 2007-2008 Writers Strike + lack of vision + bad acting + bad writing, the show quickly devolved into a jumbled mess of mixed up superpowers, time-traveling Asians, and endless catastrophes befalling Future New York City. The show is hemorrhaging viewers, and to reel them back in the writers have a great idea: girl on girl action! Will it work? You tell me. Check out this steamy promo pic showing Hayden Panettiere and some chick who thankfully isn’t Ali Larter getting down and dirty.

Steamy. I think this is going to leave audiences wondering how long it’ll be before the show dies in the ditch it dug for itself.

(Season 4, Episode 4)

What are you doing with your life? Are you happy with what you do every day, 40 or more hours a week? If not, then you’re not truly living your life, you’re living someone else’s. Only when you realize that this life is a gift and it’s so much shorter than any of us can possibly realize, can you truly start to live for yourself. Take a risk. Do what you want. Do what makes you happy.

That’s pretty heady stuff, but it was apparently on the Heroes writers’ minds tonight, because that’s exactly what this episode was about. And it turned out pretty well. There were moments of true growth for several of our characters, some good and some probably not so good.

How is it possible that a show that started with so much promise could fall so far? Did the show cr

How is it possible that a show that started with so much promise could fall so far? Did the show crumble under it’s own hype and press? Or was it the fans fault for expecting too much? Whatever the answer to those questions are the one thing that remains clear and that is Heroes is a shadow of it’s formal self. When at one time we cared about what happens to the characters, now we know that no matter what the storyline dictates Hiro, Nathan, Peter, and the rest will end up fine. Oh sure the new Heroes don’t stand much of a chance of survival, but the core group will be around til the end. How many times does Tracy (or whatever her name is this season) or even Nathan have to die before they are actually dead?

Tonight’s episode was titled Acceptance and i spent the entire episode trying to find the common thread between the stories that showed that each character was learning to accept their lives or situations. I get that Tracy learned to accept that her life is different now and she needs more than to work for an oversexed Govenor. Plus the scene with her getting out of the bath struck me as oddly funny and cool. The connection she has with HRG (I cant bring myself to call him Noah, I just cant) is possibly one of the best on the show right now. Hopefully the writers dont screw it up.

Perhaps the funniest storyline of the episode was Hiro repeatedly trying to save the guy from jumping off the roof. That guy really like photocopying his butt! But then again saving people has always been Hiro’s biggest weakness, because you can’t save everyone no matter how hard you try. Even though in the end he did save him just by talking to him and not trying to change the past, I think it would be a more interesting story to see the fallout of what happens when Hiro can’t be the hero. Um where did his sister come from and why are we to believe the Ando has been pining for her all those years? Dont yell at me if they have mentioned her before and I just didnt notice. But I have noticed that Mohinder seems to be missing from the cast. I dont remember him being written out of the show or any of the boards saying he was no longer on the show. But seeing as how I don’t tend to follow the show faithfully it’s quite possible I just didnt care enough to pay attention.

The age old question of what does a guy do when he no longer has a job chasing down rogue people with powers? Well he eats cereal and has a mock job interview with his daughter of course. I swear the respect I have for Jack Coleman as an actor grows and grows everytime he is in a scene. Put any one else on the show in a scene talking about what kind of job he should do would seem so forced but Jack has a way of making it all seem natural. And for once Claire didn’t irritate me and her hair no longer reminds me of the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. So progress is being made, slowly. But thank goodness he realized by the end of the episode that he is and always will be a “Company Man.”

Poor, poor Nathan. He has got to be the most manipulated character on the show. They might as well just attach strings to him so he becomes the real puppet he is and not the boy he is pretending to be. First you get killed by Sylar (who you really are by the way) than your dear mom plays tricks on your mind to keep you as the well-behaved boy you have alwys been, and finally when you admit to an accident that your mother (are we seeing a pattern here?) covered up you get shot for your troubles. Although tonights final scene with Nathan being shot and buried and Sylar rising was pretty cool. And I especially like the preview to next weeks episode that showed Sylar didn’t realize he was Sylar. But I have promised myself not to put to much stake in previews.

  Random Thoughts:

What happened to Micah? Is Tracy the last of the blonde bombshells? Why did Peter get served? Is Ando going to have anything to do this season? What in the hell is up with the Carnival? If Samuel is supposed to be a villian when is he going to start being a bad guy? Why is he a villian? What is the tatoo girls power? When they say Ray Park is going to be on for a sizeable arc, does that mean we get to see him only a couple of times before he gets killed in an absolutely ridiculous way? I swear if they have him killed by Peter or any one else through fighting I am going to scream!!!

There is something terribly wrong with the third season of Heroes. Either that or I am losing my min

There is something terribly wrong with the third season of Heroes. Either that or I am losing my mind. Okay, maybe that part was not very convincing, but really, I get lost at almost every episode. I presume this season is as gripping and as adrenaline inducing (pun intended) as the first two seasons since it already made me forget that I go to work at 9Am and I had to wake up at 7Am, but I forget the episodes easily. And this is weird because I have unusually sharp memory. That was because of the eclipse we had last I-don’t-remember-when and I felt like I was not human anymore, not that I ever thought that I was. I really am a monster, and I eat brains for breakfast. And now I assume you are lost of my random babble. Okay, my real problem is, I don’t remember who Linderman is. Or what power Angela Petrelli has, and how Alejandro (or was his name Alejandro? The brother of Maya) died. I wanted to stop watching but I didn’t want to so I came up with five reasons why I should keep on watching Heroes. Okay, I was lying. I never planned to stop watching Heroes, I just wanted to come up with a list because I love lists. I am that kind of geek. So, ladies and gentlemen, here is a list of the people, or characters, that keep me glued to my TV and will probably keep me glued for the next few years even if I probably would never understand the story anymore because I would soon forget about them. Oh, and spoiler alert-ish. I think most of you who watch Heroes already finished the third season but whatever.

Peter Petrelli

5. Peter Petrelli. Okay, he might be your usual eyecandy and he had a few shirtless episodes that keep women and some gay men watching, but his power is very interesting. He is freaking powerful and he probably is the most powerful of them all since unlike Sylar, he need not kill someone to take their abilities. Very cool. The season also showed his villain-y side or something and there were episodes when the viewers, I presume, were supposed to think that he was the real bad guy. Which suits him, in a way.

Hiro Nakamura

4. Hiro Nakamura. You have a heart of steel, or a sense of humor of a troll if you didn’t laugh when Tracy called her Pikachu. It was hilarious. I like Hiro mainly because he’s a geek. And I have always been a sucker for geeks, so yeah. I guess he was just overstereotyped, if that word really exists. His New York city scene where he shouted ‘I did it’ didn’t hurt either. He is one of the easy-to-fall-in-love-with characters in Heroes, the loser kid who is depreciated by his father which makes him seek his approval but he is so geeky that he just plays his PSP most of the time or read mangas that make his look childish. I am in a lot of ways like him. Except for the father part. Oh, and he is also the master of Space and Time.

Elle

3. Elle. Yes. That blonde girl raised to be an agent who has some 5000 volts inside her body. She is very mysterious and very likeable, despite the fact that she is a villain. She also seems to have a very special connection with Sylar, which was only shown in this season, or not, I don’t remember really. I wonder why I never saw her in any other TV shows or movies. Kirsten Bell. She is very pretty and she seems like she could be on par with Hilary Duff or Mandy Moore, except she looks sneakier, bitchier, and evil-er. Her pair up with Sylar is beyond me, they’re too sexy together you can’t help but wish they’d break up. Or that one of them dies *cough Elle cough*

Sylar

2. Sylar. or Zachary Quinto, that very hot yet very cuddly (really, now) villain of Heroes who likes eating brains and is ironically named Gabriel after an angel. Although I am not really sure if that angel was a good angel because I never really payed attention to my Christian Living classes when I was still in highschool. I used to think that he was creepy. Anthony Hopkins kind of creepy, just his voice makes all the hair in my body alert for danger. But well, he is one of the (if not the) most beautiful actors in the series. Him being there is reason enough to watch the ever so forgetful TV series called Heroes. Oh, and he paired up with Elle, for a while at least. That could not get any better.

Claire Bennett

1. Claire Bennett. Played by one of the most promising stars of today, Hayden Panettiere. Okay, so I really have no basis for saying that, it’s just that I have a huge crush on her and I have had that crush ever since her Bring it on: All or Nothing times. I am a sucker with cheerleaders as much as I am for geeks. Which, now that I think about it, is a little weird. I am both attracted to popular and not so popular kids who struggle through highschool mostly. Anyways, the stunning Claire Bennett is invincible and has been one of the most important characters in the series since the first season. Save the cheerleader, save the world. Even Sylar said that she was different. And special. I could so marry Sylar– except he might eat my brain and steal my X-Ray vision ability. Okay, that’s a little creepy. Scratch that. Like Elle and Sylar, she has Daddy issues too. Poor Claire Bennet is always being left behind by his adoptive parent, Noah. Oh Claire. I could babysit you for a day or two. While we’re at it, teach me how to do numerous cartwheels that make other people’s jaws drop.

+++

You probably finished watching the third season of Heroes alreeady. Or have stopped watching Heroes like most people for reasons that are so obvious. I just made this list because Ilove making lists. I always have, even when I was still a child. I used to tally how many times some product advertisements appear on TV then tell my Yaya back then what the top commercials were, based on the number of times they were shown on TV. I am such a weird bastard.

Is It Time To Boycott Hollywood?

I’ve two points to make: first, and foremost, how is it that a multimillionaire, who has a degree in sports casting, can walk a mile in my shoes? Ferrell did not exactly grow up poor; his dad was the keyboard player for the righteous brothers. I only wish some of that righteousness would have rubbed off on him, as his video is not exactly righteous for the many reasons listed in the comments section of Dave Cook’s article, “Will Ferrell Attacks Insurance Execs.” The other point I wanted to make is that in general, if you make more than ten grand a year, you pay taxes, the amount varies, however 30% of a year’s earnings is a pretty common. That 30% does not include property taxes and sales tax. Making healthcare mandatory and/or implementing fines for not having healthcare is essentially adding more taxes. So if we need to pay out another 10% of earnings, whether you’re 20 years old and fit as a fiddle or not, you will only be keeping 60% of your earnings. Add in another $1500 in property taxes and we then keep 55%. This is unacceptable. As for Ferrell, I advise him to look around at his surroundings; arguably, Oprah is losing her fan base, because of her political pandering, this should be an eye-opener for Hollywood types. We, the people who make or break celebrities, don’t want to hear your manurish ramblings. I’m like a freaking elephant, and I do not forget. The list of movie and TV personalities that I will not support, and vehemently oppose in public circles when they are introduced in conversation, just keeps growing and growing. I don’t mind that celebrities have an opinion, but theres no need to jam your opinion down the throats of those without one. I have no use for knuckleheads like Madonna, Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Bill Maurer, Jessica Alba, Ryan Phillippe, John Legend, Anthony Kiedis, Taye Diggs, Kate Walsh, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Tobey Maguire, Edward Norton Jr., Morgan Freeman, Ben Stiller, Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Geffen, Will Smith, Chris Rock, Sean Penn, and the one that hurts me most, as I used to be such a big fan, Eddie Murphy; I refuse to watch them on the big screen or TV. Advertisers, should take heed as well, as it affects their bottom line when they use these pompous windbags. Do us all a favor Hollywood; keep your effer-vescing pie holes shut. Mr. Ferrell, and company, welcome to my black list!

WILL FERRELL ATTACKS INSURANCE EXECS

By Dave Cook | 09.22.09

The battle over health care reform took to the web Tuesday, as comedian Will Ferrell and a group of other Hollywood stars released a sarcastic video mocking health insurance executives and pitching the need for a publicly-run health insurance option.

The video was released by Ferrell’s video website “Funny or Die” and by the liberal political group MoveOn.org.

“Humor can serve as a powerful reminder to Americans about what exactly is at stake” Justin Ruben, executive director of MoveOn.org, said in a statement.

Tongue in cheek

The video opens with Jon Hamm, star of TV’s “Mad Men,” saying, “Something terrible is happening.” Ferrell explains the terrible thing is that “health insurance executives are getting a bum rap.” Stars including Olivia Wilde of “House,” Masi Oka of “Heroes,” Donald Faison of “Scrubs,” and Linda Cardellini of “ER,” offer the tongue in check admonition that “we need to remember who the real victims are – health insurance executives.”

Ferrell sarcastically asks, “So why is Obama trying to reform health care when insurance companies are doing just fine making millions of dollars of profit?”

The video continues with an actor saying, “Insurance companies need our support because they keep our selfish priorities in check when we can’t.”

And Ferrell returns to the screen to say, “Insurance companies are detailed enough to reject claims for things like typos. If you spell something wrong, do you really deserve surgery? I don’t think so.”

Pitching the public option

The video closes with a slide urging viewers to “Call Congress: tell them we need a strong public health insurance option.”

The video hit the web on the same day the Senate Finance Committee began hearings on Chairman Max Baucus (D) of Montana’s draft health care reform legislation. The so-called chairman’s mark dos not include the public health insurance option Ferrell and his colleagues are pushing.

But Baucus did announce Tuesday several new measures to make health insurance more affordable for working families, including increased subsidies for lower income families, limits on additional charges insurance companies can impose on older workers, and lower penalties on those who defy rules requiring them to buy insurance.

Republicans attacked the plan, with Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., saying the legislation was a “stunning assault on our liberty.” He cited several provisions to strengthen the government’s role in health care.
