Happy Family Tryptophan Day.  Drive safely this holiday.  I am thankful for you.

There’s a girl at my college (well two actually, but one worse than the other) who wears tops that are too small for her so you can see her enormous belly, and trousers that are too tight so you can see her massive love-handles and gargantuan arse hanging out. It just begs the question – “Do people really want to see that?” I know I don’t. Whatever you do on a weekend; get pissed, eat loads of food and not do any exercise afterwards; is fine with me. But the least you can do is dress properly so nobody else can see what a fucking state you are on Monday morning.
I guess that’s the kind of society we live in now though: Fat, ugly chavs with nothing better to do than flaunt their bodies to people regardless of whether they like them or not. They’re everywhere; shopping centres, supermarkets, cinemas, back alleys, parks, my basement tied to a chair…

Every time I see them I feel like shoving a sweater over their head, tossing them into some dungarees and then craming a board ruler down their throat.

Oh, and to boot, she has the attitude (and face) of a beached whale.

Recently we often heard “Jangan Menyerah (Don’t give up)” sang by D Massive, one of the top band in Indonesia which  came out from a contest held by one of the largest cigarettes producer in Indonesia.

Many of you may already heard the complete lyrics.. you would agree with me that it contains lots of inspirative statements like : don’t give up, be grateful to what you have, Life is a blessing from God, doing your best…etc..etc…

I like this song so much that i put it as my ring back tone on my cellphone..over & over… (I guess D Massive HAS to give me 0.01% from their royalty huh…?  ;D… hopefully…).

I did it because i want people who heard the song, be inspired & then be grateful to what they have… be thankful to God, who already gives them so many things they can hardly count.

I wish many people be inspired…

The Great Wall of China

After reading Lindsay’s “China’s Three Gorges Dam,” I could not refrain myself from writing about one of the most important monuments in China’s history, The Great Wall of China. Because the Great Wall is not nearly as new as the Three Gorges Dam, it poses subtler questions about its effects on nature. It in fact is so old that it seems like a part of nature itself, much like how we consider the Stonehenge to be a part of nature. But in actuality, it is the product of the human hand, literally.

I cannot help to wonder how such a huge structure, over five thousand miles long, would have affected nature and its animals. How many habitats were destroyed with the construction of this unthinkably massive wall? Such questions inundate my mind, for I would never have thought that this revered structure, built to prevent destruction of humanity from war, ironically, could have caused major damage to nature. I am very surprised that I had never thought of this topic before, but then again, the Great Wall successfully shrouded itself with its blanket of grass and trees in order to blend into nature.

I wonder why there is always controversy about recent technological structures that could harm nature such as the Three Gorges Dam but not about things of the past such as the Great Wall. Is destroying nature with human technology a concept strictly limited to the present and the future? Why do we not talk about things of the distant past and their effects? Is it because humans were not harmful before, but are becoming increasingly so as we progress through time? And if this is true, how are we evolving so quickly? What are our outlooks for the future? I don’t know about you, but my mind is sufficiently blown.

Egypt is famous for pyramids. Cones of tombs of pharaohs permanently are written down into the Egyptian, solar landscape. Tourists touring the Giza or Dahszur constitute one of the elements of postcards most recognizable of holidays which they are sending to their acquaintances. Egyptian builders, designing these massive objects, had to demonstrate the excellent knowledge of geometry; pyramids, raised with effort of hundreds of thousands of Egyptian peasants and slaves, held out until today’s times. Amongst beautiful pyramids Egypt is famous for which gloomy complex is reigning Dżesera. It is a certificate of the architectural genius of one of the most well-known people at the service of the pharaoh – of Imhotep. The pyramid is originating in surrounding different tombs, among others Nineczera and Nebre. She was built in a few stages and with more late changes, in the end which after all six ranks have – it is stepwise pyramid – and wall with around fifteen gates, from which only one enables to enter gloomy complex. The made burial chamber was left appropriate of granite and she is surrounded with so-called galleries where paintings are found showing Dżesera. Additional galleries are filled up with dishes from the stone and with different sarcophagi. There a sepulchral developed from the north and connected with the courtyard temple is still situated. The pyramid was repeatedly explore, among others by the baron von Minutoli and J. Lauera. There fragments of the mummy were found Dżesera, costlinesses and parts of the skeleton.

Having over 100,000 cards recalled in Germany as a result of possible fraud in Spain shows just how serious this breach could be. Whilst it is still not possible to know who the Spanish card processing company is, I can imagine one of two scenarios: 1. a local processor switching terminal transactions for merchants within Spain itself, or 2. a processing company switching Internet transactions. It is also possible that the staff members concerned somehow sold off card details or used them in fraudulent transactions themselves. None of this is known and in none of the actual articles the past few hours are any real details made known, other than the German card recall. For issuers to recall cards the breach has had to be serious enough, and so I expect the news to get worse as the investigators start uncovering the facts.

1. 이로서 나도 Native Instruments의 정품 사용자. 어머나.

Absynth는 3을 몇 번 돌려본 것이 전부였는데 기능이 막강하다는 건 알겠지만 내 취향에서 미묘하게 벗어나는 구석이 있었다. 하지만 다시 생각해 보니 이만한 VSTi가 흔치 않지. 또 워낙 싸게 샀으니 이펙터로만 사용한다 해도 본전은 뽑는다는 느낌이다. FM8은 이 기회에 제대로 좀 파보고 싶은 의욕이 있고. 별로 기대 안 했던 Massive가 정말 물건이다. Albino에 빠진 이후 별로 신제품들에 관심이 없던 때에 출시된 거라 들여다 보지도 않았었는데, VSTi를 만지면서 이렇게 감격해 보기는 정말 Albino 2 이후로 처음인 것 같아. 모듈레이션의 가능성이 너무나 방대한데, 유튜브에 올라온 소개 영상을 1달 전에 대충 본 것만으로도 벌써 drastic하게 소리를 바꿔볼 수 있었다. 프리셋을 간단하게 조작해서 내 취향으로 바꾸는 것만 해도 오히려 Absynth보다 훨씬 길이 가깝고.

2. Native Instruments Service Center라는 툴이 따로 깔려서, 제품 등록과 업데이트를 모두 처리하게 돼 있다. 제품 등록은 과거의 챌린지 방식조차 아니어서, 패키지를 처음 인스톨할 때 시리얼 넘버를 입력하고 서비스 센터를 실행하는 것만으로 끝났다. 편하네. 근데 왜인지 업데이트는 안 된다. 다운로드 바가 좀처럼 진행이 되질 않는다. 서비스 센터 자체도 업데이트가 있다고 받으라는데, 100%까지 올라간 다음에 넘어가질 않는다. 뭐지… 하고 건드려 보다 보니 서비스 센터의 정체는 플래쉬 무비 실행파일(충격과 공포). 그건 상관 없지만 왜 업데이트 안 되냐고… 업데이트 내용 중에 윈도 7 64bit 지원이 포함돼 있던데. 음.

3. 게으른 업데이트와 고객 응대로 오만 정 다 떨어졌던 Korg에서 메일이 왔다. Legacy Collection 사용자 여러분, 윈도 비스타와 7 지원 업데이트를 다운 받으세요~, 라고. 비스타 나온 게 언제적인데 여태 고객 문의도 무시로 일관하더니, 그 업데이트를 지금?! 어쨌든 고마운 일이지, 뭐. 그런데 시리얼 넘버 어디 있는지 좀 찾아보고…;

4. Absynth의 PDF 매뉴얼에서 오류 발견. 난 이런 건 진짜 뭐 되게 잘 아는 사람들만 발견하는 건 줄 알았어…;

이거 Native Instruments에 보내면 나 뭐 기념품 안 주려나? ㅇㅅㅇ Native Instruments 포스트잇이라든지, Native Instruments 냉장고 자석이라든지…

5. 디지털 오디오 관련 시시한 떡밥이 있던데, 정말 시시하다. wav 파일을 복사하면 할 수록 음질이 열화된다는 것인데… 차라리 원자력/화력/수력 발전에 따라 음질에 차이가 난다는 미신을 믿지 이건 무슨. 무서운 것은 저 두 가지 주장을 정말 진지하게 하는 사람들이 있다는 것이다. 이래서 내가 오덕(오디오 덕후)들은 상종을 못해요. 디지털 음원이 음질이 “열화”된 결과물이 어떤 소리가 나는지는 알고서 하는 말들일까.

최대한 최대한 양보해서, 파일을 복사하다가 오류가 생길 수 있다고 치자. CD에서 1초를 재생하는 데에는 44.1 khz x 16 bit = 7,056,000 비트가 필요하다. 인간의 귀가, 아주 대충, 20 ms 정도의 차이를 식별한다고 보아도, 7,056,000 x 0.02 = 141,120 비트의 차이가 나야 한다는 거다. 그런데 파일을 복사하면서 1 비트, 1 비트의 오류가 누적돼 141,120 비트 이상의 “음질의 열화”가 이뤄지고, 그걸 인간의 귀가 캐치한다고? 이건 가청대역이 무지막지하게 넓어서 박쥐가 초음파를 듣네 하는 것과도 상관이 없다. 모르긴 몰라도 그런 오류를 듣는 건 박쥐도 사냥개도 돌고래도 못할 걸.

반면 전력에 따라 소리가 다르다는 주장은 차라리 근거 있을 가능성이 조금이나마 있다. 지역에 따라 전압 안정성이 다를 수 있고, 전압 안정성은 음향 기기에 영향을 줄 수 있으니까. 또, 지역에 공급되는 전력원이 다를 수 있겠다. 물론 이 전압 안정성과 전력원 사이에 논리적 연관은, 전기에 관해선 잘 모르지만 상식적인 선에서는, 없다. 사람은 밥을 먹는 존재다, 사람은 죽는 존재다, 따라서 사람은 밥을 먹으면 죽는다, 하는 식인 거다. 그 주장을 한 사람은 강원도에서 음악 들을 때와 서울에서 들을 때가 달랐다고 한 것 같은데, 아마도 기분 탓. 잘 봐줘야 강원도 집과 서울 집의 음향환경 차이겠지. 그래도 이건 미신이라기 보단 오해라고 봐줄 수도 있겠구나.

6. 음악 하는 사람들 중에도 물론 오디오필들이 있어서, 케이블 하나도 까다롭게 고르고 그러긴 하는데… 글쎄 난 잘 모르겠다. 물론 케이블은 DAC와 ADC, 음원과 입력부를 잇는 것이니 디지털보다야 물질적인 특성을 타겠지만, 내가 만든 음악 듣는 사람들이 “퍼프의 음악을 듣는다면 당연히 전압안정기, 매킨토시 앰프, 까나레 케이블은 기본 아닌가요? 세상에, 어쿠스틱 튜닝도 안 한 방에서 퍼프의 음악을 듣는다고요?” 하는 것도 아니고… 당장 케이블 하나보다 훨씬 큰 차이를 가져올 수 있는 세팅들 중에도 현실적으로 갖출 수 없는 게 얼마나 많은데, 음악한답시고 정작 음악은 안 하고 세팅만 평생 하고 있게 생겼냐고. 서류에 서명 하나 할 때마다 어머니가 불 꺼주시고 떡 썰어주시길 기다릴래? 게다가 세팅만 좋다고 좋은 음악이 나오나? (여기서 “장비도 좋아야지”라고 대답한다면 당신도 답이 없습니다. 크.)

7. 최대한 정품만 쓰자는 원칙으로, 이번에 윈도 깐 이후로는 Waves 플럭인을 안 깔고 있다. 알 사람은 알 거야, Waves를 안 쓴다는 게 어떤 의미인지. 전 세계적으로 업계 표준이 프로툴스와 Waves라면, 프로툴스는 일단 비싼 하드웨어를 구매하지 않으면 물리적으로 불가능하고, 크랙으로 손쉽게 깔 수 있는 Waves는 누구나 다 쓰고 유혹 또한 강하고… 뭐 그런 거 아닐까 싶다만서도. 리버브 하나만큼은 싸구려 쓰면 영 아닌 것 같아서 조금씩 써왔는데, 큐베이스 번들 리버브를 비롯한 정당하게 갖고 있는 것들을 조합해서 써보려고 한다. 아직까진 별 문제 없다. 다이내믹 계열은 원래 다른 걸 더 잘 써왔고. Waves 크랙 지웠다고 칭찬 좀 받고 싶은데 어디 가서 얘기하기도 뭐하고.;
