Ainda lembro daquelas matas, daquele cheirinho de mato molhado ao amanhecer. Esse espaço,foi tomado por casa, onde era mata virou asfalto, onde eram árvores virou prédios; o que antes todos viam em qualquer lugar, hoje se tornou algo rico  e difícil de se encontrar.
     Pessoas estão sendo substituídas por máquinas. É, parece que vamos ter de nos acostumar cada vez mais com essas mudanças; vai chegar o momento em que nada mais vai ser como antes. Ai é que vem a pergunta: Será que o mundo vai deixar de existir? Lógico que estamos vendo e vivenciando as mudanças dia-a-dia. Basta lembrar do clima a mais ou menos uns dois anos atrás e ver como esta hoje, chuvas em excesso em alguns lugares e a falta dela em outros, a seca, tsunamis, etc. Nada é como antes e o ser humano esta sofrendo com isso a cada dia. Mas agora nos perguntamos mais uma vez: o homem morre? Ele deixa de viver com essas mudanças? Não, pelo contrário, a cada dia que passa o homem busca meios e mais meios para poder sobreviver; meios que cada vez mais vão ser avançado, e, vamos ter de aprender a viver com isso.
    As matas, os rios, aquele som maravilhoso dos pássaros a cantar a cada manhã e a cada final de tarde, vai se acabando aos poucos, e os principais culpados por tudo isso somos nós mesmos.
Mas tudo se trata de questão de sobrevivência. O mundo será totalmente diferente do mundo de hoje, mas já estamos tão acostumados a mudanças, que nada vai ser novidade, iremos sofrer a cada dia com tudo o que fizemos durante toda as nossas vidas contra o planeta, vamos sentir na pele a “ força da mãe natureza”, mais jamais deixar de existir.

O risco dos mercados em expansão é atrair os espertos. Quem está em busca de dinheiro fácil, aproveita a euforia naqueles nichos onde a demanda é nova e abundante. No caso dos alimentos orgânicos, um mercado que cresce a taxas de 30% segundo o Instituto Biodinâmico (IBD), a vida do consumidor complica.

A olho nu, é impossível diferenciar o verdadeiro vegetal livre de agrotóxicos daqueles que não são cultivados pelos preceitos orgânicos. Resta ao comprador confiar no produtor. O IBD é um dos órgãos privados que certificam produtos orgânicos na tentativa de dar mais ferramentas para o consumidor decidir quais alimentos realmente fazem bem para a saúde – e valem o prêmio pago pela palavra “orgânico” impressa no rótulo.

Para ganhar um certificado, o produtor que pretende transformar a lavoura tradicional em orgânica deve respeitar algumas regras, como as listadas abaixo, um processo que leva cerca de dois anos. Conhecer os critérios não vai salvar ninguém de levar gato por lebre na feira, mas pelo menos pode servir de base para um bom bate-papo com o feirante.

Bueno pues la temporada de verano da por finalizada; solo quedan 7 tomatitos en las matas que voy a cojer ahora mismo y un pimiento grandecito que aun esta verde.

The band returns to Dallas this Saturday, after putting on a great show this past March, it seems the band will play a few Texas gigs before taking their act across the Atlantic. TWDY are headlining the show with opening acts Sleep Whale, and Matthew and the Arrogant Sea. This is a show that should not be missed.

Museu do Marajó guarda relíquias em cerâmica estilizada

Maior ilha fluviomarinha do mundo, a Ilha de Marajó é banhada pelo oceano Atlântico e pelos rios Amazonas e Tocantins. Dividida em 12 vilas pontilhadas por matas, rios, campos, mangues e igarapés, forma um cenário perfeito para quem pretende desvendar um pedaço quase intacto da selva amazônica. O ponto de partida da viagem é Belém, de onde saem barcos e balsas rumo à Soure, a “capital” da ilha, alcançada depois de cerca de três horas de navegação. É nesta área que estão as melhores praias – do Pesqueiro, Barra Velha e Joanes -, além de boa parte dos 250 mil habitantes da região.

Com tanta diversidade, Marajó promove experiências únicas. A mais interessante delas é montar no lombo de um búfalo para um passeio. Símbolos da ilha, os animais são vistos em grandes manadas nas extensas planícies ou dispersos nas modestas áreas urbanas, onde são usados como táxi e montaria para a polícia. No Carnaval, fazem sucesso puxando carroças equipadas com caixas de som, numa versão local dos trios elétricos baianos.

Habitat de grande variedade de peixes e pássaros, o arquipélago oferece muitas atividades em meio à natureza, realizadas nas fazendas. Entre elas estão observação de guarás – ave típica de penas vermelhas -, pesca, a focagem de jacarés e passeios de barco pelos igarapés. Os fãs dos esportes de aventura também se divertem na área com a prática de caminhadas na selva, rafting e ciclismo pelas praias.

As surpresas se fazem presentes também na gastronomia, que tem a carne de búfalo – claro! – como grande destaque. Os pratos mais apreciados são o Filé Marajoara, servido com mussarela de búfala derretida; e o Frito do Vaqueiro, que traz fraldinha ou minguinha (carne da costela) cozidos e acompanhados de pirão de leite. Também merecem destaques o caldo de turu, um molusco típico do mangue; e as suculentas peixadas. Para a sobremesa, aposte nos sorvetes de frutas exóticas como uxi, bacuri, taperebá e cajarana.

Os encantos da região se refletem também na cultura. Uma das heranças mais ricas deixadas pelos índios marajoaras é a bela arte da cerâmica estilizada. Para apreciar os trabalhos, siga para o Museu do Marajó, localizado na modesta Cachoeira do Arari, uma cidadezinha escondida no meio da mata. Construído numa antiga fábrica de óleos, o espaço tem um rico acervo que guarda desde vasos, jarros e utensílios de cozinha à urnas funerárias. Quando o assunto é dança, o carimbó e o lundu surgem absolutos. Autênticos da região, os passos foram inspirados em manifestações de origem africana e indígena.

Antes de viajar, escolha bem a época, já que calor e chuvas são características comuns do Pará se intercalam no calendário. No primeiro semestre chove quase todo dia, alagando campos e florestas e impedindo algumas travessias. A vantagem é que a temperatura fica mais amena. No resto do ano, no período de seca, os termômetros batem facilmente os 40 graus. O consolo é que a água já baixou e fica mais fácil circular pela região.

Just got home from seeing Bruno, and there was a certain vignette in the film that struck a chord with me,towards the end of the movie Sacha Baron  Cohen attacks a current American obsession MMA. I fucking hate MMA, something about watching to tweeked out men in short shorts roll around on the ground mounting each other fails to impress me. It feels as if the continued dumbing down of America is at a nadir when any of these events come around, and really nothing about this “sport” could ever touch the cultural impact some boxers had, namely the ground broken by Jack Johnson, Joe Louis and Ali. So, it’s hilarious when British comediene (that’s me trying to be clever) shines a light onto something so deplorable, of course my lack of Affliction t shirts, and energy drinks could be behind this line of thinking.

Speaking of EPs, rumor has it This Old House is going to have their EP for sale when they open for Sarah Jaffe and Matthew & the Arrogant Sea at RGRS. It’s a nice little line up, and one you should definitely check out, I’m looking forward to taking a listen to the EP as well.

RTB2 will be at Hailey’s playing it’s Denton EP release show with Oso Closo, you should bounce between these two shows.

I can’t even try to properly break down the DOMA showcase shows, I can just say it’s $5 for a wristband that gets you into all the venues, you’d be an idiot to pass that up if you’re gonna be in Dallas.

The issue of doing most of the writing for this site is when something comes up I don’t really have anyone to fall back on to get post up, and I’m forced to through random shit up via my phone. Anyway, we’ve got a fairly decent week capped by a free show we’re throwing, and a that little bit of breaking news we had for you on Sunday.

I just spent the last 15 minutes listening to Golden Animals, and have gone from dismissively indifferent, to thinking I should drive up to RGRS in Denton. Of course local openers Violent Squid are worth the $5 by themselves.

So, on Saturday I got to finally see Touch Tongues in person, at our little thing that went down at the Cavern, and I have to say they’re like nothing else around the area. The energetic music walks a line between caustic and captivating while managing to settle into an aural arena that captures their audience. Which is my way of saying you should make your way to J&J’s to catch them along with Basement Hitter, Boxcar Bandits, Spooky Folk and Tiger Tooth &  Paw.

I’m still waiting for Gutterth to put together a show I’m not interested in attending, and I don’t have to explain why you should want to go see Low at the loft.

Easily the busiest night of the week in the area, let’s see you’ve got our show at Hydrant which features Fishboy (solo), St. Philistine (kicking off their tour), Joey Kendall (doing his solo thing), Parata (doing their awesome thing) and The Bens from Manned Missiles (doing a relaxed thing).

While over at J&J’s you’ve got Seryn, Baruch the Scribe and Sans Soleil three bands everyone keeps telling me I need to check out. Yeah Def hip hop series is going down at RGRS, and Hailey’s has Deer Tick.

Dallas has shows at both Annex House, and Barley House, and Parade of Flesh has the Strange Boys at the Lounge.

Of course the show that most people are going to be at will be over at Dan’s where the pAper chAse will be playing with MATAS a lineup that’s sure to pack the people in. we’ve talked about both bands quite a bit on here, and will do so a little more tomorrow, when we post some music from both of them.

Jenny Lewis- The  Big Guns (live in L.A. 2006)

This live concert bootleg is what got me on board the JL solo bandwagon, it’s perfectly folky, with the right atmosphere of country to easily settle into my wheelhouse. I can cook to this, I can sit out in my back yard sipping a bourbon to this. Music doesn’t always have to be challenging to make you love it, sometimes going bare bones is the way to win people over.

While I’m less the enthused by seeing this band live (I was told it wasn’t that great by a friend whose opinion I value) I can say I definitely see the appeal this PJ Harvey lite music has for a certain section of the female population, seriously ladies you can be angry, we get it.

Matthew & the Arrogant Sea- …and this is where the story ends

The bookend song on their album, is strangely fitting in how it feels slightly out of place with it’s pronounced guitar twang at the lead as opposed to most of the other compositions on the album. The build at the end though echoes most of the album, and serves as a fitting ending for what was in my opinion one of the best full lengths I heard last year.

I love Manned Missiles, those guys mange to step away from their laid back personality vibe, and create rollicking music that’s griping in it’s scope of what rock’n'roll should sound like. Spooky Folk is band that comes highly recommended to me by several people, yet I’ve never had the time to do more then a cursory listen to their myspace. Mental Dentist is serving as the producer for the MM ep that’s currently being recorded so I assume he’s legit.

We’ve been over MATAS quite a bit around these parts, we love them, so we’re more then a little excited abotu them opening for the Starlight Mints, and Evangelicals at the Granada, two high energy bands that offer alot.
