Igår drabbades jag av nostalgi och bestämde mig för att se om matrixfilmerna. Jag har inte sett dem sedan det begav sig så jag var lite spänd på hur mötet mellan minnet och verkligheten skulle bli. Ettan mindes jag som fantastisk, tvåan som rätt underhållande och trean som plågsam. Resultatet var blandat. Ettan var fortfarande en riktigt bra film tyckte jag. Gripande och bra och sådär kittlande. Visst effekterna var lite gamla men allt var fortfarande snyggt. Tvåan och trean var inte alls dåliga. Dock knappast bra heller. Det var teknik och action och mer av allt, utan att leverera något ordentligt. De vann dock på att ses i sträck med ettan så att man kom ihåg alla detaljer. Deras effekter hade dock åldrats rätt otäckt. Idag presterar flera av våra tv-spelskonsoler bättre grafik än datoranimeringarna i Matrix Reloaded och Revolutions (nästan i alla fall), men sådant får man ha överseende med. Tekniken går ju framåt.

I love gifts. Love love love. I’ve had them on the brain as my birthday approaches. Not just getting. I LOVE giving gifts. If I could, I’d give random gifts to people all the time. (But it makes them uncomfortable, and so I don’t.)

Everyone has their own philosophy of giving. Here is mine:

Gifts are free. No strings attached. Giving a gift to someone doesn’t imply a favor or a gift in return. They are given “just because”. You can’t “earn” a gift. You can only accept it and be grateful for the giver’s generosity.

Gifts are thoughtful. They should be intelligently chosen and show some forethought. Doing so shows that you cared enough about them to ponder what to give them. It’s insulting to give a friend a gift for their birthday that was clearly was picked up the night before at the little airport stand. The  more you know someone, the more important this principle is. Whenever I get a gift from my best friend David Ferrell, it’s always on the money, and it reminds me of how close we are.  

Gifts are what the recipient would like. You’d think this would be obvious, but I’ve seen many people, myself included, who give gifts to others that are really what they (the giver) would like.

A story to contrast: My Dad didn’t like The Matrix Reloaded and thought it was filthy. I’d seen it in regular theaters and wanted to see it on IMAX. Dad gave me money to see it. I asked him why. He said because he knew I found it worthwhile and it’d make me happy. I haven’t forgotten that.   

Gifts are frivolous. A gift, to me, is different from a necessity, like clothing or ties. A gift isn’t something you “need”, per se. It’s just something that’s nice to have. I think of it like dessert after dinner. Do you really need it? Not at all. It’s a frivolity. But does it make you happy after you eat it? Absolutely.

Il faudra dire à cette dame que la mode du poivron séché dans l’oeil, c’était bien en 2004 quand Old El Paso a lancé son kit de Burritos tout prêt.

Il faudra dire à Eve de ranger les petits bourgeons qui lui servent de seins, un pitbull en rut pourrait être induit en erreur par les pattes tatouées sur sa poitrine et violer la rappeuse sans ménagement.

D’ailleurs en parlant de tatouage, il faudra dire à ce monsieur qu’il est en train de se ridiculiser. C’est vrai quoi, tout le monde voit le code-barre sur son jeans.

Il faudra dire à Kanye West que lorsque sa mère lui disait de toujours s’accrocher dans la vie, elle pensait pas forcément à ça.

Il faudra dire à Ester Dean que c’est la tête de Sébastien Tellier qu’elle a autour du cou. Pas un pendentif hype de Jésus.

After the huge opening of Harry Potter last weekend, we knew we weren’t going to have a movie anywhere near those heights this weekend. Instead of a movie about a boy wizard, we got this weird movie about talking gerbils or hamsters or something like that. Or are they guinea pigs? Maybe that’s it.

G-Force

I have no idea what this movie is even supposed to be. I have no idea why it was even made. Most of all, I have no idea why the hell it is the number movie in America. It made 31.7 million this weekend, which exceeded expectations by a good margin. I only pegged this to make something in the lower to mid 20s. So, yeah, this is just another shining example of how an absolutely horrible idea can make lots and lots of money. Based on that opening and the fact this is a movie geared toward kids and those usually have pretty good legs, I’d say this could easily get above 100 million by the end of its run. A lot of people, myself included, expected Harry Potter to top the charts this weekend, but talking whatever the hell they are took down good old Harry. The wizard has to settle for the silver medal.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Given how front-loaded this was last weekend, it’s not terribly surprising that Potter has quite a sizable drop. It fell 62% to 29.5 million. That brings the grand total up to 221.3 million. At the same point, the previous installment, Order of the Phoenix, had made 207.9 million. So, while it’s good that Half-Blood Prince is seemingly going along at a faster pace, the truth is that the lead it has is pretty much entirely due to its first two days, especially those insane midnight showings. OOTP made 32.5 million in its second weekend, so that shows us that HBP is depreciating as a faster rate. The twenty million dollar lead that HPB had last weekend has shrunk down to 14 million now. If this trend continues, it’s entirely possible that HPB could gross less than its predecessor. Still, it should get up to the 290 million range and is raking in a huge amount of money overseas, so I doubt Warner Bros. is the least bit worried.

3. The Ugly Truth, like G-Force also exceeds expectations. Given the surprise success of comedies like The Hangover and The Proposal, I’m kind of surprised that this one made as much as it did. But I guess the two likable stars helped this. I just can’t think of Gerard Butler as anything other than King Leonidas, though. Anyway, The Ugly Truth pulled in a solid 27.6 million. Getting to 100 million all depends on the legs. The reviews have not been kind to this, but the general public really doesn’t care about those half the time. Word of mouth is everything.

4. Ugh. Orphan makes 12.9 million this weekend, which is actually fairly respectable. Every time I saw the trailer for this, I just kept thinking to myself, “This looks like the worst movie ever.” The whole stupid devil child has been done to death. How could you possibly put a new spin on it? I didn’t give two shits about this movie, so I decided to just read a plot synopsis because a couple reviews said that it has a crazy twist. And, yeah, the twist is actually pretty good. But, other than that, I’m sure the movie is terrible. Then again, I probably shouldn’t be so quick to judge.

5. Ice Age takes a hit in light of G-Force, falling 52% to 8.4 million. That brings the grand total up to 171.5 million. I don’t think that it’ll be able to hit 200 million, but it should get mighty close.

6. Transformers holds decently, falling 41% to 8.1 million. With 379 million in the bank already, it should be able to claw its way to 400 million, but it won’t get very far over that. Like I’ve been saying, I cannot imagine any movie this year that will get up to those heights. Avatar is just too much of a wild card, but judging by some of the stuff I read about the footage from Avatar shown at Comic-Con, it really is going to be something else. But will it be amazing enough to hit 400 million? I doubt it, but I won’t rule anything out.

7. Another 6.4 million and a 21% decrease shows that The Hangover just will not be stopped. The legs on this thing are insane. It’s at 247 million right now, making 260 a definite possibility. The way it looks, The Hangover has a fantastic shot at actually surpassing Star Trek. That’s extremely impressive given the fact that Star Trek opened with 30 million more and it too had good legs. I thought this movie was really funny and everything, but I never saw this kind of success coming. Among R-rated movies, this is the third highest grossing ever, behind only The Matrix Reloaded and The Passion of the Christ. That really is something else.

8. The Proposal and The Hangover have been side by side ever since The Proposal opened, but this is the first weekend that the Hangover has managed to outgross it. Granted, The Hangover had already had two full weekends by the time The Proposal opened. Anyway, with 6.4 million more, The Proposal now stands at 140 million with 150 a virtual guarantee.

9. Public Enemies continues to just not do that well. It hasn’t had any huge drops, but then again, it hasn’t held well either. 4.4 million this weekend brings the total up to 88 million and I’d say this will finish just shy of 100 million. I really was expecting a lot more from this movie, but I guess this kind of thing happens every now and then.

10. Rounding out the top ten, we have Bruno, which once again gets clobbered. It falls 66% and makes 2.8 million. How a movie can go from 30 million to just 2.8 million in two short weeks just amazes me. It’s only made 56 million so far, a far cry from Borat’s 128 million. It’ll probably end up with 58 to 60 million in the end.

So, we have some movie about some kind of rodents that can talk and are spies or ninjas or something and they top the box office with a pretty solid debut. Potter falls hard and other than that, nothing too terribly interesting. I did horrible in the Derby this week and my accuracy for the weekend was only like 77% or something like that. I severely under guessed both G-Force and The Ugly Truth. As we movie into August, next weekend brings us some retarded movie about aliens in the attic of some kids’ house and another comedy in Funny People. I really hope that Aliens in the Attic doesn’t open on top, but I really wouldn’t be surprised if it did. I guess that’s all. Peace out.

Minds can get attached to familiar patterns and can react viciously to defend them. And like Neo you have been released from the Matrix. At first it is important to unplug and de-bug from the stories that have been a cage for your mind. As you become unplugged from the Matrix then you will be ready to receive the invitation from the Dark Lady such as Trinity or “Oracle” to offer you a few potent insights in understanding the forces in play in the Matrix following these dreams and synchronicities gives you an opportunity to get unplugged. Follow the white rabbit–this eventually- When you Choose to Believe in yourself, helps you get clearer on your purpose. Over time as you begin to believe, you discover your powerful purpose.

2. The ego/wanker-self, although mortally wounded, still has been the only reality that the new emerging passionate self has ever known in the outer world. The wanker has created a creature-comfort-cozy and familiar “virtual-reality” full of distractions and things to get attached to- where boundaries appear blurry. Power and real knowledge have been obscured in this foggy fake reality with so many memories of pure illusion and stories that limit freedom. HOME IS no-where “out there” anymore. Yet at least it is familiar! Out there is a homogenized, colonized and illusionary world of distractions. The woman of distraction the “Lady in Red” can get you killed in the matrix. Those who are plugged into limiting stories in the matrix may try to reinforce you into being trapped in your own stories like Agents. Having a free mind will help you survive in the matrix in times of great change where those with less adaptable-more attached minds are less equipped until they make different choices. And to the attached-wanker, familiarity is more important than clarity of boundaries. The true home can only be found when wisdom and understanding (which lead to connection to the higher-self and inner guidance) become more important than attachment to the ego’s ideas of home -based in attachment. Home is Peaceful Zion/shambhalla on Earth brought here through embracing, embodying and therefore manifesting the “Passionate Self’s” vision on Earth!

3. In search of further distraction and still in deep disbelief of the magnificence of the self, the negative ego seeks A LITTLE ROMANCE; The passionate self is emerging and so the creative powers of spirit flow through the passionate person and then they “have a story” about “what that means”. These passionate forces create physical attraction. This is not necessarily about love, it is about the search to reinstall or solve the puzzle of what seemed so enticing about the modeled stories that were displayed before you by your family and social groups when you were very young and just discovering what “Romance was”. This is about digging in the dirt and feeling your roots of belief about love. These are just ideas and stories that have had powerful effect on your life up till now. And you are beginning to realize that they are not real; that these stories are just “made up”! Yet also opportunities to unfold together may present themselves to you as you learn to love yourself and find completion from within. Love is everywhere.

4. While the wanker-self’s “memory story matrix” and re-installation agents do their best to re-ensnare the passionate self, the passion rages higher and this battle between (passionate presense/striving for deeper clarity and guidance) and (Wanker-instant gratification, numb unconscious living) heats up- represented by the character JOSEPHINE. /Persephone During this battle the passionate self invokes the Spider once again (see previous chronicle)to come to the rescue and remove the illusion and unwillingness to be present. Anger and rage rest below the surface of unexpressed emotions which are not considered politically or socially correct. Stories of Shame, guilt and feeling unworthy have blocked the door to finding your voice and true creative expression write your new reality programs with conscious language, with choice! Adjust your own personal Matrix enough to gain freedom from the current story programs which have bound you.

5. Words without purpose have no power and just re-expressing the same stories which have bound you will only give you temporary emotional relief/release and then re-install them. So the next step down the rabbit hole is knowing your purpose. With knowing true purpose your words have great positive beneficial effect in your life! Einstein said: You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it. Yet the tendency of the wanker mind is to look to the familiar for safety of a known quality. The Higher self is urging you to “empty your cup” and choose to go within and discover your passionate fountain-of-beautiful-purpose emerging right now,(the red pill) and your wanker mind is urging you to look at THE NIGHT BEFORE your previous understanding (the blue pill) of your purpose based in attachments, and devices of distraction like alcohol, passive-aggressive behavior, being trivial, unconscious eating-without-tasting and disconnected sex. Where you can believe whatever you wish and where fine distinctions are unimportant. There are many times you receive this choice and if you truly make it once fully- it may affect your life for a long time to come.

The matrix reloaded shows mixed views on free will and determinism and some of the challenges which are presented to each.
Firstly the whole film is based on the idea of a prophecy, which represents the idea of determinism, though, through the whole of the story the characters continuously battle to, either fullfil the prophecy or prevent it from being fulfilled.
A problem with determinism is that it may never be said to be false, this is shown throughout the film, for example: As events in the film do not occur exactly as the prophecy states, morphious would appear to have been proved wrong,

Interpretação e Filosofia Analítica com Semiótica Avançada da Obra Cinematográfica

Matrix (The Matrix)

The Matrix (no Brasil, Matrix) é uma produção cinematográfica norteamericana e australiana de 1999, dos gêneros ação e ficção científica, dirigido pelos irmãos Wachowski e protagonizado por Keanu Reeves, no papel de Neo.

O Filme

Foi buscar filosofias ao budismo, espiritualismo , ocultismo, filosofia, 1984 de George Orwell, messianismo, mitologia grega e celta entre mais…

Matrix é o nome perfeito para esta obra, pois representa “Matriz”, ou a “Fonte”, o “Início”, se considerar algumas filosofias, poderemos encontrar nesta matriz a resposta sobre quem realmente somos nós, qual a magnitude.

Não foi à toa que o lançamento do filme foi na Páscoa ( em 1999).

Morpheus é o nome para o Deus dos sonhos , na mitologia Grega.
Neo é o escolhido, o salvador .
Trinity é a Trindade. Representa a Grande Mãe- Filha e espírito santo.

Porque escolheram o nome Morpheus para o mestre de Neo? Na minha opinião, talvez porque no sonho, a alma pode emancipar-se, a alma pode viajar a outras realidades, saíndo desta realidade.
Costuma pensar-se que o sonho é uma falsa realidade, no filme eles tentam mostrar o oposto, Neo é que vivia numa realidade ilusória, e Morpheus despertou-o para a realidade.

Reparem no filme, quando os personagens estavam ligados à matrix eles não estavam lá fisicamente, no entanto o corpo físico deles (no mundo real) reagia aos estímulos. Se na matrix eles fossem feridos, no mundo real o corpo físico deles sofria as danificações e feria-se.
De certa forma, o nosso corpo físico também reage aos estímulos do espírito quando ele viaja pela “matrix” do mundo dos sonhos. Se sentimos que vamos a cair, o nosso corpo reage a esse estimulo e dá um solavanco na cama.  Em magia o mesmo ocorre, se sofremos de algum mal espiritual ou ataque astral (ou obsessão espiritual) o nosso corpo físico, a saúde, ressentem-se.

Morpheus levou Neo a conhecer “o Oráculo”, tal como o filósofo Sócrates procurava o oráculo , que lhe dissera que ele era o mais sábio dos homens, ele duvidava, Neo também duvidava inicialmente ser  o “escolhido” .

O Oráculo:

Uma frase ficou-me na memória, a oráculo disse : “ a nossa escolha é a repetição das nossas escolhas “, levando o contexto do budismo e do espiritismo :
As escolhas que fazemos agora já foram pré-destinadas por nós, mas isso só faz sentido com a reencarnação. Antes de reencarnar conhecemos uma parte do nosso destino, já escolhemos certas provas pelas quais iríamos passar, porém ao nascer esquecemos isso… Mais tarde ao tomar certas escolhas, não temos consciência que já as tomámos antes de reencarnar, mas o nosso destino já tinha sido pré-conhecido por nós, assim faz sentido : “a nossa escolha é a repetição das nossas escolhas “. Antes escolhemos, depois reencarnamos e vamos passar pelas provas que escolhemos, vamos vivê-las.

A Nave :

de morpheus chamava-se “Nabucodonosor”, nome do Rei Babilónico que tivera um sonho mas não se recordava e vivia procurando uma resposta.
Na nave havia uma inscrição “Mark III nr 11 “, que poderá ser uma alusão ao Evangelho de Marcos 3:11 que diz “E quando os espíritos impuros o viam, jogavam-se gritando : Tu és o filho de Deus”.

NEO Buda ou cristo:

Neo é uma inversão de One (o numero um, o escolhido), Neo poderá ser a inversão de EON, Eon é uma era de milhões de anos, segundo o calendário Maia estamos precisamente terminando esta Era e a próxima será a Era da paz, é justamente em busca disso que Neo foi, e ele foi na Logos.
Neo transcendeu a realidade, tal como Buda se libertou de samsara (ciclo de reencarnações, reencarnação) e atingiu o estado de iluminação (Nirvana) ou Moksha (liberdade da alma).
Buda significa algo como “ o desperto” , repare que no filme Morpheus diz a Neo “Acorde Neo”, outra coincidência, Keanu Reeves (actor que faz de Neo) foi o própria Buda no filme “O pequeno buda”.
-Quando Neo parou as bálas e olhou a matrix, isso lembra o caso de Buda quando enfrentando os exércitos de Mara, senhor da ilusão, os dados e sentas enviandos contra ele tornaram-se flores.
Numa cena, a Oráculo examina Neo fisicamente, possivelmente para ver se encontrava alguma marca que evidenciasse ele ser o “escolhido”, no budismo isso também ocorre, procuram marcas na criança que pensam ser o Dalai Lama reencarnado.

Neo também pode ser comparado Cristo , ele é o salvador, ele morre e ressuscita, ele ascende aos céus.
Numa parte do filme o rapaz Choi quando recebe o software pirata que Neo lhe deu (ainda era Thomas Anderson) o choi diz “Você é  o meu salvador, o meu Jesus Cristo pessoal “.
Cristo foi tentado no deserto, Neo também é tentado pelos agentes a trair Morpheus.
Consta que Jesus viveu até aos 33 anos, ressuscitou 3 dias após a sua morte.
Neo regressou à vida, na sala 303 ( 33), após o beijo de Trinity.
Diante de três discípulos, as roupas de Cristo tornaram-se de um branco resplandescente ( Mateus 17:2, Lucas 9:29) , identicamente Neo brilha fisicamente após destruir o agente Smith.

No filme ainda falam do karma, toda a acção tem uma reacção, o karma é um ensinamento do hinduísmo, e posteriormente também desenvolvido pelo recente espiritismo, a lei de causa-e-efeito . Se toda a nossa acção tem uma reacção, isso prova que nem tudo acontece por acontecer, mas sim porque também fazemos as coisas acontecerem, também construímos o destino das situações.
No filme Neo tem vidência (matrix revolutions) ele vê através das coisas, hoje em dia temos psíquicos videntes que fazem isso. Quem consegue ter dupla-vista vê uma aura em redor de tudo, tudo tem uma aura energética, existem hoje alguns exercícios para  desenvolver a vidência, mas ela irá desenvolvendo-se gradualmente ao longo da vida.

Neo voa, nós nos sonhos podemos fazê-lo também, na realidade existiram alguns médiuns que levitaram, foram raros casos, mas existiram.
Ele também consegue agir com a mente sobre a matéria. No 1º filme também podemos observar isso, na casa da oráculo uma criança ensinou Neo a dobrar a colher com a força da mente, essa influência da mente sobre a matéria existe e chama-se psicocinese (alguns paranormais fazem-no ).
No filme 3 (revolutions) ele parecia Cristo, estendido de braços abertos, nota-se que inclusive a luz que saiu dentro dele era em forma de cruz, a luz que ele libertou após lutar interiormente com o seu lado obscuro, destruiu toda a matéria. No plano astral, ou no plano dos sonhos, nós podemos ser um “Neo” nessa matrix (nessa realidade oculta), basta usar o pensamento, ao imaginarmos algo nos sonhos comprovamos que isso se concretiza, o pensamento é criador, pensar é agir no astral.

Neo deu vida a trinity, como um Deus, pois só Deus daria vida…

Uma coisa no 2º filme (reloaded), Neo ressuscitou a trinity , Cristo ressuscitou, no filme talvez tentem fazer uma alusão a isso mas ele ressuscitou quem ama, mas somente na matrix tinha poder para isso, pois no 3º filme trinity morre e Neo não consegue devolver-lhe a vida. Isso indicaria que só na matrix temos poder ? Ou talvez…Só na matrix  não existe a morte, podemos agora reflectir isso tendo em conta a matrix que nos envolve, o plano espiritual , lá não há morte, a morte é somente neste plano físico.

Y no es un simbolismo ni una metáfora, lo digo en sentido literal. Larry Wachowski, codirector de la exitosa trilogía “Matrix” y de “Speed Racer”, ha sido captado ahora, a 10 años del estreno de su película cumbre, convertido totalmente en una mujer, misma que se hace llamar Lana Wachowski.

Este cambio ya venía vislumbrándose desde el estreno de “Matrix Revolutions” en donde fue fotografiada a Lana (antes Larry) con Keanu Reeves. Muchos se preguntaban si quizá era una broma, pero se confirmó que no, en realidad Wachowski sí es transexual y ahora ha, en definitiva, cambiado de sexo. Se dice que todo inicia cuando Larry conoce a Ilsa Strix, conocida artista del bondage y el sado, caracterizada por poder poner 333 agujas en el pene de un hombre para darle mayor placer y él decide liberarse de todo el yugo social.

I have the pleasure to work in a reasonably nice restaurant as a day job. Being around good food, and people enjoying good food really adds to my generally cheery outlook on life. The sights, the sounds, the smells, the tastes, it all adds up to something remarkable.

Being the sort of person who gets to use the majority of his senses in a job capacity is something I take for granted, until I interract with the friends and family who pay to seek out that sort of experience, and get that sort of sensual comfort.

I have always realized we have industries that cater to the individual or collective senses, but the paternity and localization of these schools of thoughts, and titans of industry has never really clicked. 

France, as a cultural, has always prided itself on it’s innate connection to the sensual. They have sort of a natural air that says, yes, we get it, and it’s a shame you don’t. Call it arrogance, but at its heart, it’s a cultural identity they wear with certain pride. 

 Books like Perfume evoke the sensualists as human body programmers. Indiduals with an alchemical ability to mix and match disparate elements and concoct brave potions to warp the very fabric of our realities and perceptions.

Even the middling Matrix Reloaded film casts the Frenchman and his Italian fashion classical beauty as sensualists. The Merovingian makes an example of cuisine, manipulating virtual foodstuffs to synthesize a euphoric drug-like aphrodesiac to ply on a pretty young thing. 

And then there’s Pixar’s Ratatouille, whereupon one of the lowest lifeforms on the foodchain gains a greater insight into the transient power of cuisine, and elevates his own status to Master, and improves the station of all of those around him. Even the harshest critic is transformed by his act of creation, and gains a greater recognition of his own humanity, and his own need to connect and share this discovery.

I look at the sensualists, and I wonder the lessons I can learn, and if I’ll ever be able to apply that to the video game. It’s a tough thing. To incorporate that perspective and not resort fo cheap gimmickry.

I’ll have to abstract this a bit, and pull out, into the realm of the quantum. If it is true that human beings are literally ruled by all their senses, and all the dimensions that affect consciousness outside our realms of understanding, and life really does operate much like the Matrix of the Merovingian. We can literally transmute base ingredients into much more sophisticated ‘food scripts’ is what I’ll term them. Because fundamentally, human beings need to take in various sugars, proteins, and minerals to fuel our continued existence. It’s like we take certain inputs from the natural world, and run them through a biological process, and spit out the results through our consciousness, interractions and wastematter. Each of our senses operates in such a capacity, processing the results in wildly strange and complimentary ways. These affects, when combined, result in complex and intertwined synasthasia. The mind boggles at where we’ll be in a just a short couple years, and how our actual perception of reality will fundamentally change as a result of this brave new prism.

Actually, I sort of do know where this is going. With the quantum, I’m sort of glimpsing at all possible futures being correct, and the sum total of any extreme outlook on existence, being the correct one. With the sensualists, their command over reality will come through the magical sorts of triggers and sensations they produce in the brain through very practical and immediate ways. Imagine a virus that is not a living thing, but a scent on the breeze, or a new flavor or seasoning. Imagine strange new insights carried to you directly through your sensory capactities.

This, I’m certain, is going to be one of the strange fundamental changes of our culture. Which is strange, because the United States is already a leader in the realms of the senses. Our industries of film, music, video games, all actively court the senses at a moment’s notice. Look at fashion, and how a simple (or not so simple) garment can radically change a person’s perspective and outlook on life. When a fasion designer realizes the sort of magical potential for a piece of cloth or fabric, matched with a pattern or design, and create something new, unique, and inspiring.

As we break down the senses, and our reactions and conditioned responses over time, to these reactions, we start to fundamentally grasp the sensory building blocks that tie into the Quantum and resonate at strange and unusual frequencies.

When we talk of grand design, perfect numbers, absolute symmetry, in design and art, are we not breaking down aesthetically pleasing (if not perfect) components that are already naturally occuring.

 The funny thing about the quantum is, well, when you get down the the discrete building blocks of any one thing, they all start to look the same. Intrinisc vibrations and weights that are offset on some far plane of existence we have only just barely grasped at. 

You can call it magic, the divine, science, or just our brains working too hard and going into overtime, but the nature of reality is malleable and shapeable by those with the desire to exert their will to whatever ends they see fit. 

In relating this to some modern video game, and bringing some deserved acclaim and criticism, I have to single out Bioshock and Mass Effect, two complimentary sci-fi tales.

Bioshock has human beings unlock unrealized potential through a naturally occuring resource at the bottom of the earth’s ocean. Something its scientists and manufacturers call ADAM. It’s a stem cell wrapped in an enigma, and sets off a quantum manipulation of the universe through it’s user’s application. 

The exact same can be said for Mass Effect’s, well, Mass Effect. Humanity discovers this quantum shortcut, and taps into it with technology, regulates its flow and channeling through the use of body-implant biotics. 

While Mass Effect’s effect on the human mind has not really been observed at great lengths in the game universe, there are hints at some subtle fabric of the universe insights that are still forthcoming. The biological imperative is warring against the mechanical imperative across a multitude of battlegrounds and philosophical debates.

The effects of ADAM and plasmids in Bioshock is immediately apparent. The citizens of Rapture become hopelessly addicted to the body modification extremes, warping their bodies, minds and souls in the process, and fast-forwarding the evolutionary ladder exponentially within the process of just one lifetime. 

The fascinating thing about the world of Bioshock is encountering the individuals who have pushed themselves to the limits of their own perceptions. They have superpowers, but not just powers, they have superegos. They have come to embody ideals, be it beauty, be it industry, be it criminality, and not just their psyche reflects this, but also their very humanity. Some are paragons, others are monsters, all are changed, but also changed perhaps closer to the simple basic truth of the matter. They are id run amok, mythological characturitures, more so than templates. 

Fundamentally, when you get down to quantum fairy tales, the archetypes are also the same as they’ve always been. The concept of fate, and one’s place within the fabric of it all, and the ripples that extend outward as a result of any displacement. 

Andrew Ryan, the Ayn Rand analogue, in one of the strangest sequences ever put forth in a video game, commands you, the player, to murder him in cold blood. Up to this point, you’ve blindly followed the voice of a mysterious benefactor, if not believing every word, trusting it implicitly to get you where you need to go. When you meet your enemy face-to-face, he commands you to murder him. You try to resist the actions, but the words he speaks to you are, well, the words of your maker, and you must obey. Andrew Ryan is beaten to death with his own golf club, by the hands of his own creation, at his own command. But what brought you to this oedipal place was the voice of the deciever, using the word of the God against him, to smite him down. But God, in this case, realizing the futility of it all, claims his word back and accepts his destiny, to be murdered by his son at his own command. 

It’s a profoundly powerful moment in a nascent medium on the verge of utilizing these common myths and shared perceptions in radically new ways. 

Mass Effect also has this moment, when you discover that the alien mechanical menace is a reaper, a perfect machine race that has existed perhaps even as a constant of the universe, that exists as a system of checks and balances on the biological races. At the singulairty  point when the biological species grow too unwieldly, or begin to grasp at the fundamental nature of the universe with a bit too much insight, the machine race, this cold hard inorganic killer kicks into gear, and wipes out all life in the universe, and begins the process anew. 

While Mass Effect and Bioshock are both in their opening chapters, there are hints as to where each are headed, when dovetailing various quantum understanding of reality, and our role to shape and define it.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF NATE ARCHIBALD

I'm back, bitch.

Welcome back, Gossip Girl. That show that was pretending to be you for the last few episodes just had to go.

Last night, “The Grandfather” reminded us just why we watch Gossip Girl.

-The beautiful tension between Chuck and Blair and the constant see-saw on who has the upper hand.

-The unspoken class war.

-Destinies being written out for kids before they even graduate high school and their search for themselves.

-Betraying your best friends by sleeping with their lovers.

-Vanessa gets trod on.

And at the center of this swirling tempest is…NATE ARCHIBALD? Yes, we forget that Nate’s mom comes from a dynasty of wealth, power, and civilian helicopters touching down on snowy fields. FYI, Vanderbilt’s are recession proof.

Also, apparently they clap when family members come back after a long time apart. If that happened with my family, Thanksgiving would a non-stop standing ovation. That was just plain silly.

But the rest of the episode, save a couple bits, wasn’t. Let’s heap some praise on Nate for starters.

Nate Archibald, I gave up on you. I didn’t think you capable of acting your way out of a wet paper bag, and you slapped me across the face and said, “Watch me with new characters.” Cousin Tripp and Grandfather actually transported your character into a different phase, one with direction, drama, and a distinct New York power family feel. It was finally nice to get guest stars who didn’t suck, and they boosted Nate’s performance (no small task). I think it was the absence of scarves. I’m absolutely correct about this. Nate going into politics is a good move. It gives him something to fall back on when he’s not galavanting around, kind of going to school.

However, Roommate Tony paused the DVR at one point (when we were told that Tripp was going to clerk for the Supreme Court) and said:

“Wait a sec. Hold on…just a moment. If you want any other indication that class divide is alive and well…Nate Archibald is heading for the Supreme Court. FML.”

I’m not sure what this says about Nate, though. Did anyone catch the irony of his exchange with Blair (in detail later) when he said, “I never knew who I was supposed to be…” when it’s more than a little obvious Nate is being shoved into this worse than Jack Shepard having to bring everyone back to the island?

"I don't get it. Why am I going out on the boat with Fredo?"

Now while Nate being led by the nose to do something isn’t new (Marry Blair/go to Dartmouth, be a gigolo to keep his family in a home, romance Vanessa to stay in the plot, etc) it is an interesting plot device to get him back in the wealthy center of GG. He dropped Vanessa and moved on to Blair in like three hours! Vanessa, “He’s just not that into you.”

I would give Nate’s rebirth about three episodes, but now he’s tied into Blair so that will give him a little extra life. I’m interested to see what they do with this. Obviously we’re set up for a rematch of THE heavyweight fight, Chuck Bass vs. Nate Archibald. There is no one in the world more excited for that fight than me. Chuck Bass knocks out Nate in four. Pay me.

When Blair starts talking in a overly calm voice, get the hell out of the room.

IT'S GONNA BLOW!!!

If I was on Gossip Girl, and I had to do a scene with Leighton Meester one on one with any kind of emotion involved, I’d be petrified. The fact that Nate actually kinda pulls it off is such a relief, but for all of us who want nothing more than Blair, Blair, Blair, that was a great moment. Blair’s whole life gets stacked up on elaborate houses of cards, and when they fall down from time to time, we get great character performances. Oh, and she’s absurdly good looking (although that huge room where the Vanderbilts keep all their ghost sheets was kinda ludicrous).

This is not the first time that Blair’s had a breakdown (remember Serena’s intervention at the helipad?) but it’s the first time that Blair’s had only herself to blame, and of COURSE she’s going to focus that inner rage on other people. Blair going through the party, dressing down the guests was like Neo in “The Matrix Reloaded” smashing Smith after Smith until finally she ripped the social streetlight pole out of the ground and knocked Chuck into the stratosphere. The best part? We’ll never hear about the repercussions of that.

Lesson: never spill a mimosa on Neo.

Blair’s descent into the heart of darkness was interesting. I guessed last week that she’d try to transfer to a different school, but I never thought she’d get denied. She’s Blair fucking Waldorf! With all the terrible, morally repugnant things that have gone on in GG, you really have a limit, private high schools?

I wonder how much of her seduction of Nate was based on actual emotion, or was this just another modified Carter Basin phase, intended to hammer Chuck into the ground? I can’t decide yet. Either way, Gossip Girl got half a brain and they’re back to focusing on Blair getting back on her feet. The fact that Nate and Chuck have been sucked in means fireworks in the future that we will enjoy. Quick, other characters! Jump in and stay relevant!

Casualties of rebirths

Somewhere, a hooker shivers and turns off her phone.

Character who has nothing to worry about, no matter how slighted he is: Chuck.

Character who will ALWAYS be smacked down, kicked, sabotaged, and ALWAYS come back for more: …if you really don’t know, I judge you. Vanessa!

Chuck was vintage Bass, using his contacts and resources to vanquish a foe and succeeding before the third act. CB’s quiet approval of Serena, “Why? What do you have?” made us all feel a bit nostalgic for the times when Chuck would INVENT PEOPLE to force Serena into her born role of queen, etc, etc.

Two pretty good quips from Chuck: offering to lick Blair’s wounds for her (has Chuck EVER missed an opportunity to gross Serena out with his Gotham Casanova ways?) and calling Carter an “insect.” Anytime you get to call someone an insect is a good day. Hush.

And at the heart of it is Chuck’s true love for Blair, which is only matched by the pretty unprecedented look of betrayal and horror on his face when he realizes previously-non-factor Nate has come back to claim what was once his. Maybe an indication that Chuck doesn’t have the heart to battle his best friend again?

Dorota cursing out Chuck in her native tongue was pure poetry. I half expected Chuck to say something coarse in the same language. Can I get a translator on that?

To say I’m excited for Chuck’s revenge against Blair and Nate is an egregious understatement. I kind of wish Panic! At The Disco would put out a new album just for it. I’m not the only person who thinks this is a good idea.

And oh, sweet, poor Vanessa…

"No, I'm having fun...but why is that big countdown timer always following us?"

What has Jessica Szohr done to the writers of GG to make them beat her worse than Batman on a particularly angry day? The most terrible part of it is Vanessa is pretty much the SOLE voice of reason on the show, the only character who sees through the facades and has practical, helpful advice on how to deal with it?

Of course, our socialite Cassandra will never be followed and always get abused. But when will enough be enough? When will Vanessa start throwing social haymakers? On that day, kids, we will know pure vengeance, and I’m not saying that because she’s “street” (ok, kinda).

Dan and Serena were appropriate non-factors, though I was hopping up and down when Dan noted that Rachel “wasn’t my teacher,” shouting, “Give ‘im a fresh one! Go for two!”

Speaking of unintentional comedy, let’s address this episode’s glaring weak spot:

You’re really going to build a whole spin off on these characters. Really.

We just. Don't. Care.

Rufus Humphrey needs to quit his job as a musician/gallery owner/part-time dad and become a private investigator. This is the second episode IN A ROW that an incredibly important piece of paper has magically fallen into his hands. Put this dude in a boat and he’d find you a map to Atlantis. Ironically, he can’t find a reason for us to care about him and Lily.

Part of what made the other Schwartz teen series, “The OC” so good were the great parent storylines. Maybe it’s because there’s not a single stable household in the entire series, but LOCK IT THE F UP ALREADY!! The whole “let’s make a list of our conquests” is so juvenile (wholly appropriate for Lily, who if we’ve forgotten, is a slut) that you’d expect it for Dan and Serena…not grown-ass ADULTS.

“I just think you should get a peek at his little black book before you drop the yellow pages on him.” HEY! LILY! Your own daughter is calling you a slut! SERENA! VAN DER WOODSEN! Is calling YOU a SLUT! At what point did you think “lists” was a good idea?

One of the creators of “Friday Night Lights,” said “when someone says, ‘remember when,’ it’s a signal to go to the bathroom. Most times I see Lily and Rufus together, that’s my signal. Enough. Just…enough. I’m almost missing Bart Bass.

It’s nice that the Gossip Girl folks have finally discovered MGMT. Also, that touch football game was great. Where were Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson?

The guy who plays Carter must be thrilled and pissed to have that role. He gets to drop in with the best characters, make out with Blair…and then gets his ass handed to him and has to leave for a whole season.

Blair talks about her facebook page. Hey myspace, remember when you got mentioned in the pilot? Has your name been mentioned since? It hurts a bit, we know. You can share.

Lily remembers beautiful girls throwing themselves at Rufus, but he was “pining” over a “blonde photojournalist.” So that probably made Rufus the rumored gay member of Lincoln Hawk, right?

Has someone put out a missing persons report for Erik yet? They haven’t even TRIED to explain where he is!

Oh, so THAT’S how it’s gonna be…

So what’s next?

#6 on my old facebook note, “Seven things I’d like to see from Gossip Girl that they’d never do”…Chuck and Vanessa are totally going to use each other to get back at their exes. This is PERFECT.

The wrath of Chuck is magnificent, and hopefully Vanessa snaps like Jodie Foster in “The Brave One.” A boy can dream.

Sadly, I see Dan and Serena getting together. When I get more energy, we’ll revisit this topic.
